"FYI to the non-parents out there, it takes at least 15 pairs of shoes for a child to grow from a toddler to a teenager—that’s a lot of trips to the Footlocker.
Fortunately, an Indian entrepreneur from Pune has designed a line of shoes that slowly uncurl as the child ages, intuitively solving the problem and reducing unnecessary manufacturing waste.
Called Aretto, the shoes were designed by Satyajit Mittal and his childhood friend Krutika Lal. Their innovative knitted uppers are designed with all the qualities a parent would want their kids’ shoes to have—durability, flexibility, and washability.
“Children do not wear the right shoes for the first ten years of their lives,” Mittal, who designed the Aretto shoes with consultations with concerned childhood podiatrists, told The Better India.
“Between zero and three years of age, children’s feet size changes every three months, and you need roughly 15 sizes between zero and nine, before attaining final foot size at 13 years. We figured out the problem that while feet grow, their shoes do not.”
What the podiatrists explained to him was that children have a broader footprint than adults, due to their not having worn shoes for most of their lives like adults. Tens of thousands of nerve endings provide the feedback needed for children to understand how to use the miraculous musculature in their feet to walk and run.
Most infantile and childhood shoes don’t consider this, and based on the frequency at which parents need to buy new shoe sizes, proper foot function is probably never even taken into account, and the occasional stuffing of toddler feet into shoes too small or too large, can disrupt this critical muscle development.
“We wanted to give children the right fit for all cycles. We chose one shoe to cover three sizes that allow 18 mm growth. We took inspiration from how a flower blooms from the bud stage to the fully-flowered stage. The transition happens organically every day. We applied this concept to the shoe,” said Mittal.
“We started working on a shoe that flexes as per the feet. Simply put, as and when the feet grow either from the front or back or sideways, and when a child wears this shoe, it expands accordingly and takes the shape and contour of their feet. That’s why children feel comfortable wearing such shoes,” he adds.
The shoes are priced between Rs 1,800 and Rs 2,600, ($22 – $31) and are available internationally as well, provided that international buyers have either an Indian bank, or Google Pay, Amazon Pay, or WhatsApp Pay.
The shoes are fairly new on the marketplace but have already generated 21 lakh, or Rs 2.1 million ($25,000) in revenue."

Note: This is very mundane in some ways, but it's also something that's going to legit make a difference for some kids/families. One annoyingly regular problem/cost off the backs to parents.
Also, can say from painful experience that wearing shoes that don't fit or aren't supportive can Fuck You Up longterm--some people just get the pain from it sooner than others. So this design sounds fantastic

(You don’t gotta answer this one) nastiest feet surgery story your dad told you?
OK CUT HERE FOR THOSE PEOPLE WHO MAY NOT WANT TO KNOW. GORE AND BUGS AND STUFF
Tumblr media
Nastiest one hands down is the patient who like... ok so
Sometimes my dad gets patients with mental health issues, or who have fried brains from some kind of chemical consumption (don't do drugs kids i BEG OF YOU). Homeless patients in particular have an extra hard time taking care of themselves, due to lack of resources, and the combination of the two usually results in the most far gone injuries.
I am giving this context so that what I say next doesnt sound like "oh haha what an idiot" kind of a story, because the person ended up in this situation due to heavier circumstances than simple idiocy or neglect.
The nastiest case in particular was a man of that category who came in for a check up because his foot was itchy. When dad and the nurses finally peeled off his sock and shoe (which hadn't come off for at least nine months), most of his foot just... came off in the sock. He DID have one toe left though so it looked kinda like a zombie thumbs up 👍
There were maggots, of course, which is always a bad sign but believe it or not maggots actually help the foot stay healthier longer when it's gone that far, because maggots eat the dead skin and rot away! It was still bad of course but yknow. Nature's surgeons doing their job
2nd fav nasty story is the guy who accidentally stepped on a rake and couldn't get it off so. Just drove to the hospital with the rake in his foot. And for How Er Stuff Works they just had to leave the rake in there for the x-ray so dad had an x-ray with a rake in the toe he used to show us at the dinner table lol
3rd is the girl who shot her own toe off bc she was drinking on the porch w her foot resting up on the railing while she was shooting birds. Don't drink and shoot kids

I sprained my ankle a couple of days ago, and for the first time in my life despite many previous sprains, went to see a podiatrist about it.
All I can say is thank you! He loosened all the muscles that had locked up around my ankle (extremely gently), and his treatments got rid of a lot of the pain, plus he strapped it up. It's so much easier to walk on (slowly), that I almost have to remind myself to be careful because it's still just as badly injured. I feel so much better.
Mentioning this here just so anyone like me who reads it will know that it is worth seeing someone if you have the means. Though this sprain is worse than some I've had before, I'm way more comfortable now and I think that's going to help with the healing.

The Importance of Proper Foot Care for Diabetics
Tumblr media
Proper foot care for people with diabetes is essential to longevity and quality of life. Diabetes can lead to a number of issues, including ulcers and pressure injuries in both your feet and legs.
A diabetic podiatrist or other foot specialists can diagnose and treat common conditions that may arise because of diabetes or other underlying health problems.
The biggest challenge will be in treating disease that has already been developed due to the side effects of delayed diagnosis.
Diabetes is a condition that can affect the health of your feet. It is important to take care of your feet to keep them healthy and avoid complications.
6 Best Diabetic Foot Care Tips For a Healthy Life
1. Keep a close watch on your blood sugar levels.
2. Wear shoes with proper arch supports and good soles for shock absorption
3. Keep nails trimmed and clean
4. Use an antibacterial soap or foot powder to wash your feet every day
5. Avoid walking barefoot in public places
6. Get regular checkups from a podiatrist
Furthermore, every diabetic patient should undergo a full foot check once a year. Along with a thorough physical examination, health care providers should reiterate best practises of diabetic foot self-care at each appointment to ensure that the individual knows the guidelines and the necessity of caring for their feet.
Infection Control: To avoid infection, aggressive infection control is required. Diabetic foot ulcers have a high morbidity and mortality rate, hence oral and topical antibiotics are advised if there is any evidence of infection. Wound dressings impregnated with antibacterial agents are commonly utilised. Simple gauze may cause skin injury.
For moderate to severe exudate, alginate and foam dressings have a high absorption. Hydrogels or dressings containing collagen and silver are particularly beneficial for diabetic foot ulcers with dying tissue. The most critical factor is to match the wound dressing's absorptive capacity to the amount of wound drainage.
Offloading the pressure on the diabetic foot ulcer: Pressure on the diabetic foot ulcer hinders healing. As a result, one important part of therapy may be a device that distributes pressure more uniformly across the lower leg.
This can be accomplished with either a fixed whole contact cast or a detachable offloading device. Unfortunately, studies have shown that many patients with detachable devices only use them 30 percent of the time, which can have a major impact on treatment outcomes.
If your feet aren't protected, you're taking a risk. There are some great preventative measures you can take in order to protect yourself against developing diabetic foot ulcers and infections. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!

Beyond Worries: Healing Pathways through Anxiety Therapy
Tumblr media
Anxiety is a common and often debilitating condition that affects millions of people worldwide. From the relentless grip of worry to the physical symptoms of panic, anxiety can disrupt daily life and hinder personal well-being. However, there is hope and healing to be found through the transformative journey of anxiety therapy. In this article, we'll explore the concept of Anxiety Therapy, the healing pathways it offers, and how individuals can move beyond worries towards a more balanced and fulfilling life.
I. Understanding Anxiety
Before delving into anxiety therapy, it's crucial to understand what anxiety is and how it manifests. Anxiety is a natural response to stress or perceived threats, triggering feelings of fear, apprehension, and unease. While occasional anxiety is normal, persistent and excessive worry that interferes with daily functioning may indicate an anxiety disorder.
Common symptoms of anxiety include:
Excessive worry or fear about specific situations or activities.
Restlessness, irritability, or feeling on edge.
Difficulty concentrating or experiencing mind blanking.
Physical symptoms like rapid heartbeat, sweating, trembling, or gastrointestinal issues.
II. Avoidance of situations that trigger anxiety.
Anxiety can manifest in various forms, such as generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, phobias, and more. Each person's experience with anxiety is unique, and effective treatment often involves a personalized approach tailored to individual needs.
III. The Role of Anxiety Therapy
Anxiety therapy, also known as psychotherapy or counselling, is a therapeutic intervention designed to help individuals understand, manage, and overcome anxiety-related challenges. It provides a safe and supportive environment for exploring underlying issues, learning coping skills, and fostering personal growth. Here are some key aspects of anxiety therapy and the healing pathways it offers:
Identification and Understanding: In therapy, individuals work with trained professionals, such as psychologists, counsellors, or therapists, to identify and understand the root causes of their anxiety. This may involve exploring past experiences, triggers, thought patterns, and beliefs that contribute to anxiety symptoms.
Cognitive-Behavioral Techniques: Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) is a widely used approach in anxiety therapy. It focuses on identifying and challenging negative thought patterns and beliefs that fuel anxiety. Through CBT techniques, individuals learn to reframe irrational thoughts, develop problem-solving skills, and practice relaxation techniques to manage anxiety symptoms effectively.
Exposure Therapy: For individuals with specific phobias or anxiety triggers, exposure therapy can be beneficial. This therapeutic approach involves gradually exposing individuals to feared situations or stimuli in a controlled and supportive manner. Over time, repeated exposure helps desensitize individuals to anxiety-provoking triggers and reduces the intensity of their anxiety responses.
Mindfulness and Relaxation: Mindfulness-based interventions, such as mindfulness meditation and relaxation techniques, can also be integrated into anxiety therapy. These practices promote present-moment awareness, acceptance of thoughts and feelings, and stress reduction, which are beneficial in managing anxiety and promoting emotional well-being.
Support and Empowerment: Anxiety therapy provides a supportive and non-judgmental space where individuals can express their feelings, fears, and challenges openly. Therapists offer empathy, validation, and guidance, empowering individuals to make positive changes, build resilience, and take control of their anxiety.

IV. Navigating the Healing Pathways
Embarking on the healing pathways through anxiety therapy requires courage, commitment, and an openness to change. Here are some steps individuals can take to navigate their journey towards healing:
Seek Professional Help: If you're experiencing persistent anxiety symptoms that interfere with your daily life, consider reaching out to a mental health professional. They can conduct a comprehensive assessment, provide an accurate diagnosis, and recommend appropriate treatment options, including anxiety therapy.
Participate Actively: Engage actively in therapy sessions by expressing your thoughts, feelings, and concerns openly. Be willing to explore challenging topics, try new coping strategies, and collaborate with your therapist to set achievable goals for your therapy journey.
Practice Self-Care: Beyond therapy sessions, prioritize self-care practices that promote emotional well-being. This may include regular exercise, healthy eating habits, adequate sleep, relaxation techniques, hobbies, and activities that bring joy and fulfilment.
Stay Consistent: Healing takes time and consistency. Attend therapy sessions regularly, complete assigned homework or exercises, and practice coping skills consistently in your daily life. Be patient with yourself and celebrate small victories along the way.
Build Support Networks: Surround yourself with supportive friends, family members, or support groups who understand your challenges and provide encouragement. Share your progress, setbacks, and achievements with trusted individuals who uplift and empower you.
Embracing a Life Beyond Worries Plex Medical in Australia offers transformative pathways towards healing, growth, and resilience. By addressing underlying issues, learning coping skills, and receiving support from trained professionals, individuals can navigate their anxiety journey with courage and hope. Remember that healing is a process, and progress may vary for each person. Embrace self-compassion, take proactive steps towards self-improvement, and believe in your capacity to overcome anxiety and live a fulfilling life beyond worries. With dedication, support, and a willingness to embrace change, the journey towards healing begins, paving the way for a brighter and more balanced future.
