Another set of Fictif redesigns: Poe (Roadkill) and Calysta (For the Love of Gods)

Poe was a bit tricky to think of ideas for as I'm not well versed in the summer horror films his character is set in. I made him a little lankier to avoid being generically fit, and kept the academic aesthetic but with a bit more gothic elements and references to ravens for the Edgar Allan Poe thing

In contrast, I changed Calysta a lot. First, I had to give her bigger muscles because I love buff women. I also gave her stone skin and the thick leather belt to add to her title as the goddess of strength. I associate strength with stone, elephants and similar large herbivores, and gentle fortitude. Inhuman-looking gods are excellent as well, and it's why Astrellio is one of the best designs, so I had to go with that

I just finished Tess route and like i have to talk about something Other than the fact it was rushed. This is the closet thing we have from a main 3 bromance scénario hear me out.

In Howie and Poe route the Dynamic is mainly MC x LI and the two Other root for you. But in Tess route it's full Bromance. I mean... Howie lifting you on his shoulder at a concert ? Poe saying he feels like you're his platonic soulmate ? Poe giving Tess his crédit card to go get clothes, the gang cheering on Tess's performance ? Tess wining a giant Teddy Bear for you and Howie ?? Poe nicknaming Howie as "labrador" ?!

I Already loved the main 3 roadtrip Dynamic but Tess route gave us so many scene where it's just : Waw i can't believe i only met you some days ago but our trip is so Amazing and you guys are the best and i feel so great with you guys

That it, just me rambling about how much i love the Bromance in Roadkill because it's the first otome game where i feel that the character trully care and enjoy each other's compagnie, and i love it.

Uhh..... Tess' route is over???

I doubt Roadkill's going to have another route so I guess I have a full opinion on it now (It's negative so I'm putting it under the cut)

It's always a shame when good character designs are in a mediocre/bad story. I have a feeling the creators of Roadkill were kind of done with it and wanted to move on. Howie and Tess especially felt rushed and I can't help but be disappointed that one or two female LIs in Fictif got this treatment.

Though in all honesty I don't blame them. Roadkill's detached writing and character style, horror/not-horror setting, and having most of the romance behind a paywall didn't make it the most appealing game of the bunch.

Poe got the most cohesive story and ending, but his character appealed to me the least as his goal as a writer and literature-quotes came off as shallow and pretentious rather than sincere. I like the theme of each of the characters dying along the way and then ending with Poe's death, but I still have issues with how moving on from him was the "bad" end, while staying with him was the "good" end. Honestly, the MC killing themself would have made more sense than just staying trapped until death in a hotel for a relationship they couldn't really have.

Howie appealed to me as a character and design a lot more, and I enjoyed a lot of what happened in his story, even if it never felt like it had a proper direction. This made the ending feel even more out of nowhere, even if I liked the new theme of each character becoming a monster.

Tess was a character I was looking forward to as I like her design and personality, but her story cut off far too early to really know her or let the story go anywhere. Unlike the others, the theme of losing a vital part of yourself through injury wasn't that well established (especially with how it simply vanished at the end). I liked a lot of moments with her and you got a bit more fun with her than the others, but it never sold their "love".

My biggest issue with Roadkill as a whole is that it comes off as arrogant, especially around Douglas. Having two endings where the characters write their story as "Roadkill" and for it to become a hit where the canon praises it to the heavens is a little gauche. Douglas himself works as a petty villain to kickstart the story, but he fails as a greater-story villain. At the end of the day, he's just some guy, and even if the story acknowledges it in-story, it doesn't change the fact he's some nerd stereotype. It's outdated and a bit pathetic to hype up so much.

Adding to my disappointment with Tess' ending, having the "choice" to kill him or let him go but having the "kill" option as a cheap "everyone dies" option annoyed me. The game never had much morality about killing. They killed monsters and monsters killed them. Douglas was repeatedly shown to cause the apocalypse and the story showed he was better off dead or got rid of. Sparing him is valid, but the story's tone, setting, and themes wouldn't suggest killing him was invalid. Especially as horror and monster films usually end with killing the cause of the horror.
