Isn't a writer question but was curious; How does wenclair different from other ships you've enjoyed?
Is it solely due to having been a lifelong Wednesday Addams fan, or is it specifically the Netflix's Addams world that you find intriguing?
I ask mainly because I recall you once saying that your wenclair comics--specifically the Next Gen Au I believe--are written and made with a lot of intention in regards to dialog and the discussions had between characters.
Is this due to a greater insight into the characters or simply a mark of growth in writing comprehension?
I like to think I put as much thought in all ships I've been hyperfixated on tbh. Wenclair isn't even the one I've been obsessed with the longest. So far it's actually Trimberly, for which and I was hyperfixated with for like 3 years.
But yeah ok I get ur point lol The intensity this time feels different, I suppose.
I think it's a mix of both being a long time Wednesday Addams fan and how cute of a ship Wenclair is both in concept and the canon execution of their dynamics.
As some of you are aware, I've been a fan of The Addams for a while now. All incarnations of them are great in their own way, but one of the many reasons why the animated 2019 movie is my favorite is because it didn't give Wednesday a bland ass male love interest. I don't think the B/W series did it(because Wed was like six in that) but the 90's movies, musical, and netflix series for some reason found it necessary to give Wednesday male love interests so painfully boring and i hate it. This isn't even about making Wednesday attracted to boys. I personally headcanon her bi, as the ol' stereotype that all grumpy/angsty female characters must be lesbian isn't my cup of tea, and also because I like to think all Addamses just don't give a shit about gender when it comes to romance. I woulda been fine with her getting a boyfriend so long as they're not boring af and goddddd canon incarnations still haven't delivered. Joel was sweet but he was too much of a wimp, not even Gomez is that pathetic. Lucas' thing with Wednesday was just portrayed in such an icky way in the musical that I couldn't finish watching by the time their sexually charged duet came on, and don't even get me started on the boys Netflix gave her. I expected better of Gough and Millar...(unless the blandness was on purpose like it was with Lana Lang--)
Anyways, because of all said canon love interests, I've been desperate for Wednesday to have a love interest that is both not painfully het or boring for once. Crossover shipping with Lydia Deetz from Beetlejuice the Musical was fun but was ultimately a very niche fandom. I could only draw and write for an audience of twenty or so people for so long. Parker from the animated movie would've been great, but the cop out with her mom dating Fester just made it too weird for me to be fully on board with the ship.
So when Enid Sinclair was introduced as a character I was absolutely ecstatic. On paper alone she already seemed great. She has a very distinct appearance (even if her "design" was inspired by Harlequin and it shows) that goes so well when she stands next to Wednesday, whether it's in the actual show, fan arts, or even in official merch. Her being Wednesday's complete opposite in so many ways makes her being paired with Wednesday so dang interesting too.
And I don't just mean aesthetic or personality wise. I'm talking about how one of Wednesday's struggle stems from having too much smothering love from her family as someone who gets overwhelmed too easily, and Enid's loneliness and insecurity coming from her own family's lack of love and attention where it matters most. Or how Wednesday's just girl who, deep inside worries about being an actual cruel monster like the very bigots she hates, while Enid is a supposed beast who resents herself for only being a scared little girl. Even the fact that Wednesday is an older sister to a soft-hearted younger brother while Enid is the youngest daughter to a bunch of rough-housing older brothers feels very on purpose.
Everything about Enid feels deliberate. Like she IS supposed to be paired with Wednesday, platonically or romantically. She's the best person to stand beside Wednesday as a character because they have enough differences and similarities to have interesting conflicts but also significant character growths sparked by each other. She's not bland or boring like the canon love interests because even without her attachment to Wednesday, Enid is still such a compelling character. The mere fact that she's as popular as she is despite an eight-episode series being her debut in a franchise that's been iconic to generations is already pretty amazing, and only a character as impressive deserves to smooch somebody as iconic as Wednesday Addams.
And their on screen chemistry is just *chef's kiss*

I really love how much mp100 stands out against other shows of its genre with its finale. there isn't some final boss, there's no grand fight between good and evil. it is, like the show has always been, about emotions and self acceptance. the finale barely involves fight scenes in the traditional sense, like I wouldn't call the encounters with teru and ritsu fight scenes since neither of them intend to hurt him, and even the fight with the suzukis ends not with someone being defeated but rather with an emotional break through. the final conflict is resolved not with violence and defeat. it's resolved with honesty and compassion and self-love. I can't get over how deeply kind this series is

You expected a silly gay pirate show and then it hits you with the:
"You know that there's a bird that never touches ground? Born in the air. Never once lands. Spends its entire existence in the sky. We're never going back to land. We're gonna sail, rob, raise hell forever and ever, without end."

I was thinking about artwork that I’ve seen.
I dunno I felt poetic
Tumblr media
I was thinking about artwork that I’ve seen.
Drawings where the linework was so fluid it melted seamlessly into the colours, as if it were all one thing rather than layers piling one on top of the other. The shading was fantastic and gave it magic and depth. The lighting turned it into something beyond beautiful — powerful, warm, and comforting. It had background art that transported it into places of wonder. It had special decorations and detailing that would take a lifetime to uncover. It was so real it moved. It breathed. It lived.
And I wondered if people looked at art the same way I do. If people see stories in the ink blots. If they hear music in the color scheme. Do they feel warmth in the expressions, do they find wonder in the brushstrokes, do the ink marks glisten and gleam and glitter like gold?
And I wondered if people knew they were art, too. If they knew that their freckles are strategic paint splatters, made to add depth and decorum. If they saw their scars as storylines, markers of where they've been and how far they've come. How their eyes are jewels and gemstones, they sparkle and reflect the light of the sun, moon, and stars. Their smiles and frowns are strokes of a brush with precision pigment, and tears and laughter are a symphony. Can they see the extravagant and extraordinary dye used in their skin, in their lips, in their blood and tears? Have they seen the delicate weaving and braiding and crocheting of their hairs? Their joy shines like magic through their pores, their fingers are tools and their voices are instruments. Their names are reflections of their person, the title of their artwork. Do they know they are masterpieces?
And I wondered if people…
If one person would ever look at me like that. If someone would see my lighting, my shading, my composition and negative space. If my lineart was seamless, if my colours clashed or blended in a lovely way, if my details drew them in, if I was intricate or creative or magic. Could they notice how I sway when I get tired, like I'm slow-dancing to a lullaby, or how I click my tongue and hum when I'm bored… How my feet turn in, how sometimes I stumble on my R's, how my eyes resemble sunflowers… My freckles go down like connect-the-dots in a constellation on my arms, my nails are nibbled down, my hands are covered in ink, my ears covered in headphones secured within a song… My shoes are decorated with charms, my jeans are old, ripped and cut-off at the knees, my sweaters are warm and oversized, I hide inside them like a picture in a frame, snug and silly, flapping my hands underneath the long sleeves. Do they hear how I sing constantly, how I talk in every accent I can get my hands on, see how I add extra U's to words like “colour” or “honour” or “favour”, how I talk to myself in the woods where I write my stories, how I still believe in magic like Ents and Faes and the Loch Ness monster and miracles... could they see all my quirks and flaws and what very few redeeming qualities I find in myself, and could they see them all as paint? As pencil marks? As ink and dye? As gloss and varnish? Could my rambles sound like music? Could my smile be glitter? Could my voice be winds and strings and brass? Could anyone look at me and see the artwork?
But mostly I wondered if I would ever be able to look at myself like how I look at the artwork.

the thing that's always hard to explain to people is that I don't mind that I moved 8 times in less than 20 years. I don't mind that I've never lived anywhere longer than 3 years. I don't mind moving. that's my normal, that's what's in my blood. the hard part is when I don't. what's hard to bear, almost impossible, is being the one who stays. being expected to be there, being thought of as a local in a place I will probably never call my home. being left when other people move. it's so easy to be the one who walks away first and so impossibly hard to be the one who's left standing there.

I find it very funny that Tim Roth says in Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, "I think I'll spend the rest of my life on boats" and 8 years later is cast lead role in The Legend of 1900 a movie about a man who is born on a ship, lives on a ship, and dies on a ship. Both are magnificent movies and if you haven't seen them I highly recommend it. Just *chef kiss* poetic cinema.

y'know, sometimes you just gotta look at the average age of people in a certain fandom and go 'good for them, i'm too old to interact with media in the way that they're doing' and just nope out

but what if i wanna know your favorite song and album from bc?? 😢
(i know its an obvious choice but i think i haven't heard it and that's just wrong)
well, since you're asking so nicely, sweet anon friend 🥺
LOTSAD may have some of my absolute favourite songs (WANS, TYFTP), but as a whole I'd say Violent Pop is still superior. I mean, it's such a no-skip album? The only songs I haven't really listened to are Snake and maybe Gun, and in the case of the former it's only because of the screamo parts in the verses that aren't really my cup of tea (the chorus, on the other hand, is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥)
and yeah, I really really love WANS and TYFTP, but I'd say my ultimate favourite song comes from Violent Pop as well. One Of Us is literally such a power song for me, it's just so brilliant and always puts me in a great mood. For some reason it reminds me a lot of Planetary (GO!) by MCR which is one of my all time favourite songs and my number one power song, although as songs they are quite different when you think of it
and you didn't ask but my favourite lyric from One Of Us is...
So put your drinks up for your demons in the dark Let's spend the night out wearing nothing but our scars
thanks for asking, even though I deleted the ask game, I really do appreciate it 🥺💓
