🍄 🐸 🌷 🥀 🐌 // poison garden // gouache on hot press paper
everything pictured in this piece is a poison: henbane in blue, belladonna in green, amanita muscaria in red, rosy bonnet in pink, lily of the valley, strawberry poison dart frogs, hickory tussock moth & caterpillar, ladybug. not the snails, though! they're just hanging.
[id: an illustrative gouache painting on a dark background. lush intertwined botanicals with textured blue and green leaves weave between red, white, and pink flowers. red frogs and ladybugs perch on stems, colorful pink and red mushrooms burst from the ground, and a moth hangs off a leaf. snails stroll quietly over the tops of mushrooms and along the ground. /end id]

Atropa belladonna berries freshly picked from my poison garden. So sweet, so juicy, so deadly. I’ll be drying them and saving the seeds as belladonna seeds and live plants can be pricy.

The most delightful part of starting a poison garden has been learning that Atropa belladonna is basically just a tomato for garden care purposes.

My Husband tried growing Foxglove last year. It did not go well for us. Mostly because of the little bastards (Aphids) that you see all over it in this photo. It was worth a try, though.
Not entirely happy with this picture, but I can't quite put my finger on why I'm not happy with it for some reason. And yet in other ways I love it? Confusing ... Ah well.

''The world's most poisonous garden''
'' The garden in Alnwick, England, is home to the most poisonous known plants on the planet: some are exotic species, but most are unsuspected plants that grow quietly in the lawn of the house and which have been used since ancient times to make poisonous potions. The sign at the entrance is unequivocal: "These plants can kill".
The Alnwick Poison Garden is however an attraction. The castle to which it is attached served as the setting for Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the early Harry Potter films. Created by Jane Percy, Duchess of Northumberland, in addition to rose gardens and rows of cherry trees, it brings together in one place the most toxic plants in the world. Visiting it is not dangerous: by respecting the rules of common sense, you risk nothing, but above all you learn a lot!''

So far perennial and pendo-perennial losses include the Blueberry and the Fig, and the Passionflower Vine I'd finally gotten to grow. The Rue barely survived the Winter inside and has been moved outside now that it's woken up and started producing fresh growth.
The Lilac survived the spraying from the neighbor last year and bloomed this year- though with everything going on, I didn't get a chance to either make the Enfleurage (again) nor take my camera out and get proper photographs of it.
The Comfrey's already back on its nonsense and blooming profusely. Plus, I mentioned yesterday that the Mugwort, Absinthe Wormwood, and Virginian Mountain Mint need to be cut back already; the Yarrow's almost ready to harvest, I've just gotta wait for the flowers to bloom (they're coming up so quick).
My Rose should ship within the next 2 weeks and I've already got the pot picked out for her. I just need to amend it. And while I'm at it, I'll fertilize the other roses around the yard and trim back the climbing Rose in the back since it's now decided to start pulling down the "trellis" it's growing on.
I think I'm going to throw the Alyssum in the pot with the Clematis, since there's so much empty space in that pot. It needs a groundcover. The Poppies, I think I'm going to sow in a pot, too, rather than free-seeding them in a bed. The Cosmos, Zinnias, and Sunflowers will get seeded in the Garage Bed, though.
I'm trying to decide where to put all the Beans and Peas, because I do love growing them and the way they look. Do I put them in the Herb bed by the fence, though- or try and smush them in the back of the Yarrow and Chamomile? And I also need to figure out where I'm going to plant the Parsley, Dill, and Fennel for the Swallowtails again this year.
I do have where the Tobacco's going to go picked out, however. That one's easy. I'm going to interplant multiples around the garden this year instead of just the one; give the Aphids something to snack on all over the place, rather than only in one location. But also provide something a bit more for the Hummingbirds and Hummingbird Moths (hopefully I'll get some "Tomato Hornworms" this year).
