I know I'm probably the only person here who geeks over the anime-exclusive characters from the Sun and Moon seasons, but I just wanna tell that person who made ACTUAL 3D MODELS OF THEM HERE that they deserve a spot in Heaven and I would kill for them ;;0;;

This is just way too delicious here. The Pokémon Sun and Moon Anime character designer goes over the reason why he gave Ash the appearance he did, which was basically "Ash in past seasons felt very out-of-character compared to how he was in the original series." And his response basically triggered the XY fans, prompting responses like "they forgot Ash has 6 leagues under his belt", "so you decided to make Ash act out-of-character anyways", "it's a bad idea to make Ash act like a 10 year old", etc. The XY fans have misread Ash's character this whole time, and they don't want to admit it.

For the Day the Grass Greets You - A SM Gen Fic
Tumblr media
[Read on Ao3!]
[Download the Zine!]
Rated G - No Warnings Gen Pokemon Sun and Moon Selene & Lillie & Hau 3004 Words
Summary: Before Selene, Lillie, and Hau set off on their journey, they'll have to get ready first! There's more to preparing for a journey than just packing your bags, but with all three of them together, they'll be ready for whatever the adventure has in store.
Notes: This fic was written for the lovely "Your Journey Awaits!" Zine! It's my first time writing game verse SM, but I love SM verse, so I'm super glad I got the chance to write for them~! Enjoy the fic!
~
The door to Professor Kukui’s lab swings shut, Selene releasing it after Lillie has safely walked through. It creaks noisily.
Lillie turns to Selene, orange specks of sunset reflecting in her eyes as she looks to the other girl.
“Should we be heading to the Trainer’s School now? It’s just down the road, so it’s no trouble…”
Selene shakes her head, “My house," She points up the road, where the building can be seen in the distance, then pulls at the strap of her bag. She’s hardly prepared.
 “Good idea,” Lillie replies.
They step off the deck, both wearing shoes ill suited for beaches. The sand sinks beneath them slightly. Selene’s red sneakers are cut high enough she’s spared from the grains seeping into her socks, but Lillie is not granted this mercy. She shakes her foot a bit as they walk forward, which Selene laughs at. Lillie blushes.
The stretch of grass separating the Professor's Lab and Route 1 is almost large enough that Selene sees it more as a field. The long strands of grass rustle in the breeze, brushing against each other like old friends. The wind catches the sound, swirling it around them to mesh with the cries of Wingull, lap of waves, and laughter of Hau, only a few steps further into the grass. Although “steps” might be inaccurate, as Hau is lying on his stomach, kicking his feet behind him as he watches his Litten tentatively paw at the tail of a Slowpoke. It lets out a yawn, startling the Litten as it jumps back.
“Hau.”
Hau lights up at the sound of his name.
“Selene! Lillie! I was just… training!”
He stands up slowly, stretching his arms out wide above his head. The day is fading, and Hau’s seemingly boundless energy along with it, if only slightly.
“You got time to play like that?” Selene asks without intonation.
Hau hums to himself. “Course I do. It’s the Island Challenge , not Island Race. Half the fun is getting to know your partners, learning everything about what makes Alola so wonderful. That’s just what I’m doing.”
Selene nods quietly, feeling her Popplio nudge her ankles.
“Wanna come?” she asks, hoping Hau will tag along with her and Lillie.
“What do you say, Mala?” The Litten turns to Hau at the sound of her name. “Wanna get moving?”
“Myraow!”
“Let’s go, then!”
Mala bounds over to her trainer’s feet, pausing to mew at Popplio, resting at Selene’s side.
In near unison, both trainers reach down, scooping up their respective partners to carry.
Mala scrambles up Hau’s arm determined to claim her rightful place resting on his head. Hau giggles.
“Warmmmm~”
Selene’s Popplio seems content to rest in her arms, observing the landscape with wide glossy eyes, safe in its trainer’s embrace.
“So,” Hau asks, twirling to face the girls, “you two and Yuka are heading to the trainers' school?”
Selene scratches the aforementioned Popplio behind the ears as she shakes her head.
“I am escorting Selene back to her house before we proceed,” Lillie says. “She wants to gather a few things before we set off.”
“Coming?”
Hau grins, wide and toothy.
“Of course! I wanna meet your mom, Selene! I bet she’s really cool, was she a trainer too? I bet she was! Do you think it’s too soon to call her auntie? I’m gonna call her auntie, she’ll love it—let’s go!”
Energy overflowing once more, Hau hops from foot to foot, impatient to get moving.
Selene nods, smile beginning to form on her face in kind. Nowhere near as wide as Hau’s, but with just as much joy lying beneath.
Lillie looks towards the swaying grass nervously.
“I… I’m just a little nervous about any wild Pokémon jumping out at us. The Wingull here are frightfully curious and find Nebby ever-so interesting, but Nebby can’t exactly… battle.”
A muffled but indignant “Pew!” comes from within the bag.
Hau and Selene’s smiles don’t falter. Nodding at each other, they hold out their hands to Lillie, Selene’s left and Hau’s right, taking each of Lillie’s own.
“Don’t worry!” says Hau. “Wild Pokémon won’t even try to touch us. At least not if we—”
“Run!” Selene finishes, and the two yank Lillie forward with full force, all three of them rushing into the brush.
Lillie’s duffle bag bounces against the side of her leg. She wonders if Nebby’s alright in there. Hopefully it isn’t getting knocked around too much.
The tips of the grass strands brush against her, tickling the slivers of skin her socks don’t cover. Blonde hair streaks out behind her, tangling in the wind, illuminated by the melting gold light. The sun is dying, the stars trickling into place.
Hau’s hand holds hers firm and tight, pulling her across. Selene’s hand holds hers lightly, teasing, as if coaxing her forward.
Neither lets go until they burst out of the weeds and back onto the maintained paths.
“Alright!” Hau cheers, jumping up in excitement. “Nothing jumped out at us!”
“First time you’ve been excited about that,” Selene adds, the teasing tone reflected in her eye.
Lillie takes a deep breath in, and smiles. “Thank you.”
Hau and Selene simply step forward, prompting Lillie to follow them up the hill to the road connecting Hau’oli Outskirts to Route 1. The sun sets at their backs, casting long shadows against the worn earth.
“You know, Selene,” Hau begins, nothing prompting him, “your house has been empty for ages . I always used to think about what sort of family would move in there!” He kicks his feet out in front of him, lazily raising a hand to pat Mala as he does. “It was waiting for you, definitely!”
Lillie tilts her head to the side. “Like… fate?”
“Yeah, basically! I mean, I  don’t know everything about the Tapu, but I trust in them, right? And I trust that we all were meant to be friends! That’s why your house was waiting for you, I can just feel it!” Dust rises from his feet as he walks along the dirt road.
Selene nods. “I like that.”
Lillie is content with this answer as well, humming thoughtfully without another word.
A glint of light catches off the ocean to shine in Selene’s eye. She holds her hand out as she rounds the corner and climbs up the steps to her house. She swings open the door—her mother doesn’t lock it anymore— without knocking. Lillie and Hau follow her close behind.
“Ah! Forgive the intrusion…” Lillie calls lightly.
“Alola~!!”
“Hi, Mama.”
Selene’s mother pokes her head out of the door that led to the deck, smiling widely.
“I saw you kids walking up! Welcome home!”
Lillie bows her head quietly.
“Thank you very much for having us.”
“Nice to meetcha, Auntie! I’m Hau!”
Selene’s mother smiles, raising a hand to her cheek.
“What lovely friends you’ve made, Selene!”
She turns to the pair.
“Please, take good care of my daughter.”
Hau grins. “Of course!”
Lillie, though slightly flustered, nods again. “I’ll do my best!”
Selene places a hand on her friends’ backs, pushing them forward towards her room. “Packing. Focus.”
Hau hardly needs the encouragement to run into Selene’s room, and Lillie follows close behind.
“Let me know if you kids need anything!”

Selene calls, “Love you too,” over her shoulder as she follows her friends in and shuts the door.
Lillie gently places her bag on the floor and sits on the bright yellow carpet, Selene dropping her bag beside Lillie’s and sighing with exhaustion.
“Thirsty?” Lillie asks.
Selene nods.
“I think I have some lemonade! I’ll grab it.”
The zipper runs smoothly across the track as the bag opens up, Lillie reaching for the cans inside. However, it only takes a split second for a laughing cloud of stardust to fly out and begin zipping around the room.
“Ah! Nebby, no !”
“It’s okay,” Selene reassures. The door is closed, the windows face away from the road. No one will see them here.
Lillie’s shoulders drop as the tension leaves her body. “Thank goodness.”
Hau’s irises blur as his eyes attempt to track the Pokémon’s movement around the room.
“Nebby’s got the right idea! I gotta explore !”
His ponytail bounces as his head whips around, looking about the room.
“Like this closet!” Hau exclaims, running over to said closet. “What’s in here !” He grabs the handle and flings the door open. “Absolutely nothing , you just moved here!” he yells, equally as excited as before.
He’s correct, the closet contains only a metal bar to hang clothes on, but as of yet it hasn’t seen any use. Most of Selene’s clothes are still in haphazard piles contained by the cardboard boxes stacked up at the end of her bed, which she gestures Hau to look towards for answers.
“No worries about that now!” Hau declares. “You’ll have plenty of time to unpack later. Right now, we gotta get your bag ready for our journey !” He says the last word breathily, the excitement catching up with him.
“Pack what?” Selene asks, lifting the flap of her shoulder bag to reveal its contents, a mere 5 Pokéballs, unused.
Hau hums, unfastening the zipper on his backpack.
“Well… the best place to get stuff is obviously the PMC, ‘cuz it’s got the lil’ shop inside! 5 Pokéballs is enough for a full team I guess, but you’re totally gonna want more! You do want to catch a bunch of Pokémon, right?”
Hau’s head pops up for a moment, eyeing Selene, unsure.
She holds her hand out flat, rocking it back and forth.
“Yeah, I get that,” Hau answers. “Well, the most important part is making friends with all your partners! So you should probably get some more Pokéballs just in case one’s tricky to catch. You can’t really get anything better than a basic ball right now, but neither can I! It won’t be long though, I just know you’re going to do amazing!”
Selene nods, already aware of the Pokéball rules.
“Also potions, of course…” Hau mutters, turning back to his bag. “Here, take one!”
He tosses the purple bottle over Lillie’s head. She squeaks a little as Selene catches it one handed.
“Nice.”
“What about you, Lillie?” Hau asks. “What’s in your bag?”
Lillie’s face scrunches up as she thinks. “Um, Nebby takes up most of the space… Thankfully, it’s not too heavy. Beyond that…”
“Bwark!”
“Oh!”
Lillie jumps slightly at the feeling of a wet nose pressing against her leg.
“Thank you, Yuka!”
Yuka, pride across its face, pulls Lillie’s bag towards her with its flippers. Lillie gives it a gentle pat on the head as she bends over to retrieve it.
“Let's see… My water bottle, a few max repels—those would’ve come in handy earlier, darn —an Oran Berry, here.” She holds the berry out to Yuka, who gleefully eats it right out of Lillie’s palm.
“Ooh, you got your Pokédoll in there?” Hau asks.
“No, it’s—Hey!” Lillie exclaims. “I told you not to go into my room! How did you know I had that?”
“I didn’t! I just stood on my tiptoes and jumped to get a look through the railing! You said nothing about jumping and looking through the railing.”
Lillie pouts, crossing her arms.
“It was implied and you’re nosy.”
Hau frowns slightly, flicking the island challenge amulet on his bag.
“Sorry, didn’t mean to upset you. It’s cute! I wish I had a doll like that… Only maybe not a Clefairy…”
“Like this?”
Selene’s voice comes muffled, and when Hau and Lillie turn to look at her, she’s holding out a Pikachu doll in front of her face. It’s stylistically similar to Lillie’s doll, same round eyes and plush body. Selene shakes it back and forth a bit. “Pikapika.”
Lillie giggles, pressing her finger tips against her lips as if to prevent the sound from slipping though. “It is pretty cute.”
Selene pokes her face out from behind the plush, her tiny smile a warm sight.
“I think there are some stores in Konikoni City that sell dolls like this, if you’re interested, Hau,” Lillie muses. “But Cleffy is mine, and you can’t have her.”
“Or Kiki.” Selene adds.
“Alright! We’ll make that our next goal, alright Mala? Ah- Mala no!”
“Meoowwth!”
“Mrowaaw!”
Mala stands proudly on the head of the Meowth that Selene’s mother trained, having clawed its way up there. It scratches at the Meowth’s  ears in a pitiful attempt at dominance.
Hau rushes over, scooping up his partner. “Mala! We only fight bad people and wild Pokémon, okay?”
“Mraow.”
Hau taps the tip of her nose. “Behave.” He places her down next to his bag. “Instead of fighting Meowth, how about you help us pack?”
Mala nods, then pokes her head in the bag. “Mraow!” She looks up expectantly, clutching a small jar of honey between her pointy teeth.
Hau beams. “Good kitty! I forgot I had that… but it explains why all my Pokeballs are so sticky.”
Lillie makes a face of disgust.
“Honey’s great!” Hau exclaims, holding the jar out to Selene, who eyes it carefully. “Wild Pokémon love it, so you can attract a bunch of new friends to play with! It’s like the opposite of a repel, way better!”
Lillie raises an eyebrow. “Sometimes, repels are useful.”
“Sure,” Hau agrees, “but you can’t put a repel on a malasada! Actually… maybe —”
“Hau-do-not-eat-a-repel! ” Lillie squeaks all in one breath.
“I’m joking!”
Selene smiles at her friends, placing the Pikachu doll in between them before wandering around the room again. She lifts the flap to one box, shakes her head, and then closes it again.
The next box Selene opens is filled with clothing, lots of flowery tops in all sorts of colors. She glances over them for a moment, picking an orange tank top and shoving it into the bag.
“Ah!” Lillie gasps. “Your clothes will get all squished!”
Selene shrugs.
“Please, Selene, let me fold them! I need the practice to help the professor anyway, and they take up much less space when they’re folded.”
Selene responds by tossing a red and white striped shirt on the bed. Lillie beams.
As the girls collectively sort through Selene’s clothing, Hau lets himself gaze around the room again. His eyes land upon a plastic globe resting on the desk. On one side, a shiny star sticker marks Northern Kanto. On the other, a sparkly star sticker marks Alola, Hau’oli City specifically. Hau’s learned how to recognize his home in a split second by now.
“You’ve traveled a really long way, huh, Selene,” Hau comments quietly. “You get homesick?”
She shrugs as she passes a long blue sock over to Lillie, who matches it with its pair. “Miss dad.”
Hau and Lillie both hum in agreement at that, tones harmonizing for a moment.
“Old house, old friends.”
Yuka tilts its head to the side, looking at its trainer with wide eyes.
“But Yuka is here. You’re both here. I’m happy. Excited.”
“For me…” Hau began, “I get to explore my home. These roads, the ones around Hau’oli at least, might as well be my family, and I get to see them in a new light! You’re adventuring into new islands, you’ll see them for the first time as a trainer! Isn’t that cool?”
Selene nods.
“I admit,” Lillie says, “I don’t think I want to be a trainer, at least not yet. There’s things I need to do first. But I admire the both of you… I’m perhaps the tiniest bit jealous.” She laughs lightly at her words.
“Being a trainer is awesome, Lillie! You should give it a shot, whenever you feel like it.” Hau’s tone shifts, teasing, “But you already have a starting partner! Nebby!”
Lillie laughs. “I suppose you’re right, in a way. Though if I were going to choose from traditional beginners’ Pokémon...”
“Done!” Selene interrupts, grabbing her bag off the bed and throwing it over her shoulder.
“Bwark!”
Selene picks up Yuka, letting it sit comfortably in her arms. Similarly, Hau reaches his arm down, Mala taking the opportunity to jump onto it and climb onto her place on his shoulders. Lillie attempts to do the same, however…
“Nebby? Nebby, where did you go?!” Lillie jumps off the bed, whipping her head around to try and spot Nebby. “Ohhh, no no no! What if it’s teleported away somewhere?! We’ll never find it!”
“Uh?” Selene points a finger over Lillie’s shoulder.
Lillie whips her head around.
“Wahh!”
She shrieks and jumps back as the plaid yellow comforter begins to rise into the air.
“Ghost?!” Hau yells, already reaching into his bag, “Ghost-type friend to catch?!”
“Pew!”
With the tiniest sneeze, the sheets fall, and a sleepy-looking Nebby is left bobbing in place.
“Oh, thank goodness!” Lillie cries, grabbing the Pokémon out of the air and tucking it into her bag. “You silly little thing. Stay put in there, alright?”
“Pew-pew!”
All prepared, the trio ducks out of Selene’s room, leaving the door open for Meowth, and back into the open.
“Leaving.”
Selene’s mother looks up from the box of dishes she was unpacking.
“Ah, so soon? Here, at least take these before you go.”
She hands Selene, then Hau and Lillie too, a few Chople Berries.
“Take care of each other, alright?” she asks as she presses the berries into their hands.
“Mm.”
“Roger!”
“I will!”
Selene runs over to her mother, giving her a hug as quick as lightning before running back to the doorway. She hesitates on the precipice, edge of her sneaker toying the line between her new home and the starry night air that awaits her.
“Barwk!” Yuka cries, placing a fin on Selene’s wrist.
Just as fast, Selene feels the firm warm touch of Hau’s hand on her left shoulder, the delicate cold touch of Lillie’s on her right.
“Ready?” Hau asks.
Selene nods.
“Then with your right foot first, all of us together—”
The three of them step forward, journey just beginning.
[End! Lemme know if you enjoyed it~!]

HCs surrounding the Anipoke SM parents to pass the time☀️🌙
(These hcs will line up with the assumption that the events of pkmn RSE/ORAS happened alongside those of RBG)
(also, for your health, read the TWs listed in the tags before hitting "read more"!)
--
Names (because I gotta do TPC's job for them) and nationalities:
-Sima: Indigenous Alolan
-Rango: Paldean
-Mallow's mom: Callisto (Callirhoe; Poppy Mallow), Unovan
-Abe: Indigenous Alolan
-Lana's mom: Victoria (Victoria Water Lily), Fiorean
-Lana's dad: Noah (Nuphar Water Lily), Hoennian
-Sophocles' mom: Molly (Sophora Molloyi), Pokemon equivalent of Greek
-Sophocles' dad: Francis (Sophora Fraseri), Hoennian
--
Jobs:
-Sima, Rango, Abe and Noah will keep their respective jobs present to us in the anime.
-Victoria is a marine biologist who would frequently dive into the depths of the Alolan ocean floors.
-Due to the recent events surrounding Hawai'i and how tourism impacts the Indigenous population in a horrifyingly negative way, Francis will no longer be the VP of the Tourism Board, and is instead another high-ranking official within Alola's Ministry of Education; another civil service job that HOPEFULLY wouldn't age as badly.
-Molly is a horror novelist- ironic because, I mean, just look at her. Not a lot of folks ever suspected a thing because she would often write under a pseudonym. The topics of her stories resonate with a wide amount of folks dealing with past traumas, all written in an artistic, yet non-romanticizing, manner; true fairytale tragedies.
--
Backstory-related:
-Noah was a former Aqua grunt who joined the group during his formative years / its early days to get by; he was orphaned at a young age with no knowledge of his extended family whatsoever, and was more or less homeless before he became a grunt. He still has a tattoo of Team Aqua's logo on the back of his neck, and, though the memories still sting him in more ways than one, he couldn't bring himself to remove it. At least it prompts his daughters to ask him about his "days as a pirate".
-Molly had to endure almost half a lifetime of vicious bullying and ostracization from her peers as she grew up and was forced to deal with her autism and resulting social anxiety that were, at the time, undiagnosed. Her social anxiety still manages to affect her as an adult in spite of her receiving help for it, hence why she is only ever seen outdoors with her husband (the only one she tends to trust wholeheartedly to be by her side and speak to others on her behalf) and not finding it in her to talk much. Thankfully her gynaeceum (room in Greek households that only the women can access) provides the solitude and calm she needs to prevent meltdowns and sensory overload.
-Francis' home life was...nothing short of nightmarish. To spare ya'll the grisly details, he was the designated scapegoat once it had become clear to his parents that he wasn't the straight-A, strong child they expected him to be; no, he was an over-emotional, snot-covered, slow brat in their eyes (though he was a mere child who was doing ok for someone with undiagnosed ADHD). He had to endure years going through the brunt of their mistreatment, all the while they sang praises towards his older brother, Tabitha. After a series of catastrophic events, he was sent to live with his paternal aunt, Anela, in Alola back when he was 16. For all intents and purposes, Francis' parents and brother were dead to him.

More and More, Still Moving Forward - An Ashpika Fic
Tumblr media
[Read on Ao3]
Rated G - No Warnings Gen Pokemon Sun and Moon Pikachu & Ash 942 Words
Summary: It's the end of an era, the Manalo Conference is all wrapped up. There's a lot to think about, and a lot to say thank you for.
Notes: This version of the fic uses the English Dub Names (ex, Ash. Read the Japanese Dub Names (ex, Satoshi) version HERE. This was written for @ashpikazine ! It was a super fun time! Enjoy the fic =D!
-
For the third time, Kukui reaches down to ruffle Ash’s hair through his hat, not that Ash minds. He’s certainly earned it now, Alolan Champion, 30 minutes reigning. He’s worked good and hard to get to this far; he deserves to take pride in that. They do; Ash and his team, his friends and family.
“I’m so proud of you, you know that?” Kukui says softly. His voice is quieter than it needs to be. There aren’t any trainers in the backstage corridors of Manalo Stadium. Not that they’d mind, regardless.
Ash laughs sheepishly.
“Yeah, I know. Thank you, Professor. For the compliment and… everything else.”
He leaves it at that. Doesn’t need to elaborate.
Pikachu, curled up comfortably in Ash’s arms, chimes in.
“Pika-pikachu!”
Kukui laughs.
“You’re both very welcome.”
It’s comfortingly quiet for a moment, only their footsteps in-between the silence, stark contrast from the roaring of the crowd that had enveloped them moments earlier.
They round the corner carefully, returning to the same benches Ash had sat on before he’d entered the stadium for his final battle, contemplating whether this was finally it, if he would win.
Ash plops himself down on the bench, leaning back against the cool concrete wall. He’s still running hot with excitement, and it's nice to rest.
Kukui walks over, kneeling so their eyes meet.
“Now, promise me. No matter how much the rest of the class is dying to see you, don’t leave until I come to get you, okay?”
Ash knows, nods.
Kukui sighs.
“It’s not fair, I know. You should be able to celebrate with your friends, we just… we underestimated how eager reporters would be to interview the participants and…” He trails off momentarily. “Just wait for me, alright?”
Ash hums in reply, and then the professor is gone.
In all honesty, Ash doesn’t mind waiting all that much. In general, yes, waiting was awful, but this time… it felt nice. A breather, a break.
Pikachu curls into a little ball on Ash’s lap, vibrating lightly as he breathes. His breath is calm, steady. If it weren’t for the fact that he’d been there, Ash would never have known Pikachu had been fighting for his life a few moments ago.
Ash scuffs his shoe on the floor, mindlessly petting Pikachu as it purrs.
“Piiiiiikaaaa.”
For once Ash isn’t restless. Must’ve used up all his energy battling. He’s satisfied. It’s a wonderful feeling, satisfaction.
Pikachu’s claws press into Ash’s leg through the fabric of his pants. Pikachu sighs again, and Ash does the same.
“We did it buddy… we really did it…”
Ash breathes out, voice light in the silence. “But you and everyone did all the work! Rowlet trained so hard right at the last minute and Tor- Incineroar, evolving! And-“
Ash is cut off by Pikachu’s paw, reaching up to tap his face. It lands squarely on his forehead.
“Pika-pi-pikaaaachu! Chu-pichu!”
Ash giggles.
“And I helped. I helped too. It’s our victory.”
This seems to satisfy Pikachu, who settles back down in Ash’s lap.
“Really, though. Thank you, Pikachu. All over the world, all this time…. You’ve always been by my side! Look at all we’ve accomplished, all we have to show for it! The titles, the trophies, yes-“
He trails off for a moment, reminiscing on past battles. Ritchie, Harrison, Tyson, Tobias, Cameron, Alain. Old losses. Faba, Hau, Guzma, Gladion and Kukui. New wins. Whoever else awaited in the future. He takes a deep breath, regaining his composure.
“But more than that…”
Ash looks down. Pikachu looks up at him. His own face, wobbly and distorted, is reflected in Pikachu’s large, brown eyes.
“But more than that, you’re my partner. My most precious friend. We’ve met so many people all across our journey, and I know it wouldn’t have been the same without you. Thank you for choosing me, again and again through all these battles, through everything!”
He laughs again, a quieter, slightly bittersweet laugh.
“Sometimes I think you’ve trained me just as much as I’ve trained you! If it weren’t for you, I might still be the same brat I was when we met.”
Pikachu nods at this. “Pikaaaachu.”
“Hey! What I mean is that you’ve taught me a lot, shown me all the ways Pokémon and people should work together!”
“Pika-pika-pika-chu-chu-pika. Chu-pika-pi-chu!”
Pikachu sits up again, reaching out his claws in a grabby ‘Come here!’ motion. Ash leans down, obliging.
Pikachu smiles, pressing his face against Ash’s. Tiny crackles of electricity tickle Ash’s cheek, but Pikachu is careful, would never release enough electricity to really hurt him.
When Pikachu finishes, he stares up at Ash again, unblinking.
“Ka-pi-pikachu-pi?”
Ash grins sharply, determination piercing through his eyes.
“Hey, don’t think I’m giving up alright? We may be champions but there’s still a long way to go before we’re really Pokémon Masters!”
Pikachu raises his fists, squeaking in equal excitement.
“Exactly! We’ll keep moving forward together, more and more and more and more and mooooore!”
He stomps his feet, drumming them against the floor to match the pounding of his heart, like the roar of the crowd in his ears. He can hear it, picture it so clearly that the sound surrounds him even when it’s silent.
“Pipi-kachu!”
“Yeah,” Ash says with a smile. “You and me, buddy.”
He reaches down and wraps his arms around Pikachu, holding him tightly. Pikachu grabs onto Ash’s arms, tiny claws digging into his skin ever so slightly, but Ash doesn’t mind. He lifts Pikachu up and holds him against his chest again, close enough so that he can feel the Pokémon’s breathing.
“Thank you, Pikachu.”
“Pikapi-pikachuuu.”
He holds Pikachu tightly, pouring all his ambition and hope and anticipation into the gesture, hoping, knowing, that Pikachu will understand.
“Ash?” Kukui’s head peeks around the corner. “We’re all clear now.”
Ash smiles.
“Ready, Pikachu?” he asks as he stands. Pikachu nods happily. He’s asking in more ways than one, but Pikachu’s answering in kind.
“Then, let’s go!”
