"stop crying, dawn" it'd be smarter to think about what went wrong. then you can figure out what to do for your next contest-" i mean yeah, but also SHE'S 10?? and she just lost her first contest?? she's allowed to cry a bit huh?!??

like, johanna oculd've gotten the same message across while still comforting her. something like "i know. your first contest loss is always tough. but what i learned is-"

especially since just one episode earlier, johanna dropped her usual stern "when you tell me not to worry, that's when i worry the most" line. but then when dawn shows sadness, that's wrong too? ik the correct secret third option is to be calm and rational about things, but also i'll say it again - she's 10!!!

also the whole "talk to your friends from now on, not your mother"? i get that johanna wants to foster her daughter's independence, but dayum the way she said it is a bit harsh

ik the conversation turns more positive and supportive after that and dawn seems okay, but johanna's just so. fascinating. like she's a caring, cool mom but also really uptight. i need to study her and dawn's relationship

Pictured here are the houses of many a hero and heroine of the Pokemon anime world, where it all started for them. All of these ones being based on the houses and hometowns from the games and player character hometowns. We had Ash from Pallet Town in Kanto, Dawn from Twinleaf Town in Sinnoh, and Serena from Vaniville Town in Kalos all starting their journeys way back then, and now it’s Liko’s turn, and it seems in a way, she’s just like them.

Liko may not be designed after a game’s player character like Ash, Dawn, and Serena were but she’s still got that trope rooted in her, coming from Paldea and living in a quaint home in the small town of Cabo Poco. Just as Ash, Dawn, and Serena started their journeys in the Pokemon world in the small towns of Pallet Town, Twinleaf Town, and Vaniville Town respectively from their home regions.

And just like them, Liko’s journey in the world of Pokemon has just begun, and she will be on her way to leaving a great legacy in it as she continues to journey across the world throughout Horizons.
