Character Descriptions:

Kit Miller

Kit is 23 years old and owns a small coffee shop in Nimbasa City with the help of their pokemon team.

Kit abandoned their journey years ago in favour of a more simple life, and now lives happily by themself with just their pokemon to keep them company.

Kelcey Banks

Kelcey is Kit's opposite in many ways. They hardly slow down for anything, with their sights set only on becoming the best they can possibly be. Their last journey ended badly, but they'd never let that stop them from reaching the top, even if they have to try again and again.

Crafting A Comic: Frog Alarmclock And The Fabric Of Time

For a long time, I’ve wanted to make a webcomic.

I’ve written two webcomics, Legend of the Hare and Saffron and Sage, but I didn’t draw either of them. And I’ve always been a little self-conscious about that, and harbored a desire to make a comic all by myself, art and all. This desire has been inflamed lately by the success of ForEach, a comic made by one of my discord mods. It’s getting kind of popular, and already has more interest and engagement that Saffron and Sage, something I’m very normal and well-adjusted about, and I’ve been thinking this is something that’s in my power to make. My art, while still limited, is finally at the point where I can do this, and I’ve been writing forever. All I need is a plan.

I have never been a good planner, and it shows a lot in my comics, so I want to have a lot more of the comic written out and planned before pencil comes to paper than I traditionally have done, and I‘d like to turn this brainstorming into Content for you all. It’s a critical part of the writing process, and one that gets glossed over a lot, in part because it leads to slightly rambling essays. But I do have one thing to start with: a protagonist.

Frog Alarmclock is a young woman being trained to join a coven of powerful witches who stitch the fabric of time. She has very little interest in this grand destiny, and is a bit of a stereotypical NEET loser despite her great magic power. Her name, Frog, comes from a knitting term referring to a way of correcting mistakes, but obviously frog-the-animal theming is cute and marketable. I’ve posted a bit about this character on my discord, and the reaction has been overwhelmingly positive, so I think there’s some potential here worth mining. So far, though, the only plot element I’ve been able to come up are

Frog lives with her Grandma, who trains her. Grandma’s power level has fluctuated wildly in my rough drafts, from “generic witch” to “personally gets into fights with Satan in hell”, and I’ve been leaning towards the higher end. Frog and Grandma don’t get along. I’m giving her the placeholder name “Batra”. It sounds witchy, sounds batty, and it comes from batrachia, which means Frog, so it fits the theming subtly.

Frog lives in a Florida suburb. I don’t remember why I settled on Florida specifically, and that may change, but I do like the idea that this cosmic entity lives in kind of a slummy neighborhood. I may move them to Lowell, MA, which is closer to home and an aesthetic I know better.

Frog has a crush on a pink biker chick with pig theming, the Miss Piggy to her Kermit. For the time being, lets call this character Susie Pepper. Susie from “Sus” the latin word for pig, and Pepper because Peppa Pig. It’s a placeholder name.

That’s all I got so far. Even the name, “Frog Alarmclock and the Fabric of Time” is placeholder I made up just now while writing this. I’ve written a few random short stories of this character, trying to get a feel for her, and I even made her my character in a weekly Pathfinder game. But it’s time to try and get a proper story going. With Legend of the Hare, I had a huge over-arcing five-year plan for each layer in the tower, but little sense of where the comic was going to be in three pages, which led to a lot of problems. With Saffron and Sage, I set out with a vague over-arching storyline of “Saffron must rescue her prince”, and kept the comic to short episodic self-contained stories, taking heavy inspiration from Gunnerkrigg Court. Saffron would go on wacky adventures, and rescuing Faunus would be some vague future goal she was theoretically working towards in the same way Ash Ketchum wanted to be a Pokemon Master but took 20 years to get around to that. This worked better, but led to the comic feeling very aimless and meandering, which is part of why it’s turned increasingly farcical. In some ways, my two comics would be better served by switching protagonists. Saffron is very driven in a way suited for a somewhat goofy battle shounen, and if Jill set out on an adventure to rescue Riley she’d be distracted more easily and it’d lend itself better to an adventure-of-the-week format.

Frog, being a NEET loser, is closer to Jill than to Saffron. And suddenly, just from that sentence, I know what I want to do with this comic now. Writing this essay has given me one of those Eureka moment that happens sometimes, when you go from no ideas to the entire plot of the comic all at once. Frog is Jill if she was the Rabbit Champion for a few years before the story started. They’ve got different personalities, of course, Frog isn’t just Jill with a big hat, but this is the throughline I needed. I can work with this, get a first draft done, get an editor to look at it, and report back to you with more detail.

Generally I'd say I've improved a lot throughout this year. Got a proper drawing tablet, switched drawing programs, finally begun working on using more then one type of brush... it's certainly been journey! A journey with many ups and downs, but one I am glad I went on anyhow.

This was made for trans day of visibility & comes with a trans pride palette to boot, though I ended up choosing the normal palette since the other one kind of sucks. Also could've done better on the posing, but I was still getting used to the ins & outs of drawing tablet usage so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

currently reading - a fuckin LOT of things but nothing much actively. for novels, i'm reading a master of djinn by p. djèlí clark, and in terms of manga and webcomics, im reading hell's paradise (SOOOO close to having a full collection of this one) and marionetta, as well as keeping up with jjk and akane-banashi as they release!!! im also technically in the middle of nona the ninth and wanna keep reading it but istg i havent touched the book in fuckin forever

currently watching - other than jjk season 2? nothing other than like video essays or letsplays on youtube, tbh.

current obsession - well uh. its guilty gear. its BEEN guilty gear. we know this. season 3 shit is gonna be so exciting im really really lookin forward to it, i think johnny is gonna be cool as fuck and the patch is gonna shake things up :] other than that, i recently got elden ring and it's fun!!! i'm very bad at it!!! and im also replaying pokemon ultra sun because im realizing i never actually got to like. the end of the game. or past the second trial. so it's already goin better this run lmao

WELL ISN’T THIS A RIGHT MESS.  I’m not sure whether they’re going to have Eda come home to sort things out or get everything together and fixed before she arrives.  I could see either path, really, but I’m leaning towards the kids getting things back to normal before Eda shows up as a showcase of teamwork and problem-solving.

And Willow’s involvement in this is interesting as hell.  This clinches it, I think; Willow is a mass of raw untapped power in a pint-sized frame, and she just doesn’t really know it.  I doubt Gus has the magical might or potential to affect something this much, and Luz is a glorified casting focus.  Man, this is going to KILL Amity--she values hard work and determination, and seeing this cheater’s massive magical ability is going to drive her wild.

It’ll be interesting to see, but that’s all for tonight!  I was going to do the second half of the episode, but my anxiety’s running too hot for that, so this is it.  Tomorrow we’re going to do the three Patron Picks, starting with Kino’s Journey, so tune in for that!

So, as far as my art goes, a few of you may have noticed the Omega Ruby au I've posted about a few times, but I guess I've never really explained it in much detail. SO LETS CHANGE THAT!

~ Tams silly little Omega Ruby au ~

The au itself is comprised a bunch of personal headcanons, ocs, and a desire for a slightly darker pokemon game that focus more on, who I deem, the more important characters in the story. Will I ever do anything with this au concept? Maybe? Maybe not. Maybe a webcomic, but I don't exactuly have the best track record, which is why this post now exists.

As far as 'important characters' go, these are the 6 I wanna talk a lil bit about, the 6 that I suppose matter the most in terms of storyline (there should be 7, but the rival character has yet to exist beyond a small in mind concept)

Firstly, Alex. The main protagonist? Character? Focus? Of the story. She is basically the May/Brendan replacement for the plot (though May and Brendan do exist, explanation in a bit). Shes 16 during most of the plot, and comes from Shinno. She got caught up in the team Magma shenanigans and ends up chasing them (which she defo later regrets). She ends up being very close with Archie, after everything that happens with Groudon and Maxie, and, you know, everyone deserves a father figure

Next is Lilo (17 yo), Alexs travelling companion and friend. They don't get so involved with everything happening with team Magma, rather acting as a lifeline for Alex where she nearly dies every other day. They grew up in Hoenn, so help Alex find her way around, whilst chasing their own goals of wanting to be a pokemon ranger and doctor.

Whos this next person, you might ask. That would be May...or at least...and older, adult May. In this au, she completed her journey a few years prior and is now the standing champion of Hoenn. She herself didn't get caught up in the main fray of what happened, though she did have to stop the two teams fighting a few times, even when she was still on her own journey. Steven is her mentor still, and helps her look after the league and Hoenn (The league is a form of authority for the region, so people depend on them alot for support and protection)

Steven Stone, former (ha) champion, though he still plays a large role in the league and Hoenn itself. He focus' alot more on hos research and helps with his father buisness that also plays a large role in the league now as well. (He gets punched at some point)

Now, Archie and Maxie I will through into one explanation, as they kinda link together and...if I talk about them separately I will not shut up. They are the main reason behind my idea for the au tbh, as they play a much larger role in the story overall. Team Magma and Aqua will appear, not only sooner, but more frequently during the overall plot, being more of a nuisance to Hoenn. I wanna explore their relationships more, and show the diwnfalls in not listening to research, and how that can very much corrupt a plan. Obviously, as an Omega Ruby au, Team Magma are the'villians', whilst Aqua is the support, though they will be alot more supportive than the games, actually taking the time to bond with the heros and help them out during the course of the events. I say villians loosely, as, neither team are inherently evil, they have good intentions, but go about it in the wrong way (which we see in the recebt pokemon master update WHICH I LOVED!!)

Annyywayyyyy, I think thats about...the basis of this au. I've been meaning to talk about it for a while, and I guess I just finally got around to drawing these characters and talking about them a little. I will defo try to post more things in the furture about this au, but in the meantime, feel free to ask any questions you might have, and I'll try to answer them!

Lily and James are very famous Pokemon Trainers. James is a Pokemon Master and a member of the International Police. Lily is a Top Coordinator. They were once part an Organization that stopped a war. They were war heroes. It was foretold that one of their children would be special and defeat the Great Evil when it returned shortly after they had a set of twin boys.

The Organization Leader and their Mentor Albus Dumbledore declared their son Jamie Potter the future hero and told the Potters that they needed to get rid of the other boy and focus only on training Jamie.

The Potters didn't listen they loved both of their boys. It becomes clear from a young age that Dumbledore chose the wrong twin but the man will not listen.

In this story Hisuian is a region because I needed a region variant for Lily's Pokemon.

Probably gonna regret asking this since its likely cursed, but where are those Pokemon reaction images from?

The webcomic Deception by Master Ploxy. It is indescribably insane; it’s a Pokémon porn comic that started out trying to have a dramatic plot before devolving into non-stop sex, including “arcs” involving rape overtones and lolicon (which is thankfully illusory but still really gross). It’s redeemed by a dream sequence gay sex arc but really, the only reason to read it is for the reaction images and general insanity, because despite starring a Gardevoir and a Gothitelle (two of the sexiest Pokémon) it is pretty unsexy. 

Fun fact that I love mentioning: my OC Prim, who is a character in Rhine City, is inspired by both main girls. She has the name of the Gardevoir and her power is inspired by the Gothitelle’s powers.
