I've been thinking why the Arven Storyline is so good, and I think it's about pacing and delivery.
Pokémon SPOILERS AHEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!
Also recalling this from memory so might be some inconsistencies but the spirit is there :) .
There's this mild mystery about this guy at the start, apparently he knows your Legendary Lizard and is responsible of it. He also seems that he'd rather not deal with said lizard, foreshadowing or a more classy term, setup. We also end up realising he is the son of the Professor with very little to go on of what this relationship is.
It is implied in NPC dialog that the Professor has been away from the public from a long time, but being the owner of the lizard that you own now he/she actually shows him/herself to you. He/She calls you by student ID, weird. And requests you sometime travel to Area Zero, the forbidden area, where he/she presumably has taken residence.
When you meet with Arven on the lunchroom he proposes that you embark on a quest for, ... Herbs? Herba Mystica that seem to have some weird healthy properties. It is known that he likes cooking but didn't think he was a healthy foods enthusiast, a healthy lifestyle guru. Anyway you consider it.
Later he gets into a fight with Nemona into who's path you should follow. He seems really aggro on keeping you to his mission. Weird.
First mission, after the fight, you find the Herb, ok seems more than just curative bogus, he cooks ya a sandwitch and Koraidon goes ahead and asks for yours. Arven seems apprehensive but you eventually give it to the bikemon and whoa! It got its powers back. So maybe Arven is helping his parent out? Or was this not planned? Wait "you can come out now"? What pokemon did he send and why was it kept a secret? Weird.
Now, for the first "delivery" on all these "setups" this guy's not just a crazy cook in search for the ultimate ingredients, the setup at the cafeteria has its answer in Mabosstiff, the pokemon he secretly sent out last scene. It is stricken with a weakening health condition and the reason his owner is gathering all these ingredients is to cure him before it's too late. This is great for two reasons: 1. We know there is a ghost dog Pokémon with a similar build to it's preevolution and it can evolve so the dog could indeed die and turn into that. Also we now have a reason why he's been so jumpy, he doesn't want you to help him, he needs you to help him. If you ignored him and went with Nemona or that wacky Hacker, He'd be all on his own, and may not make it.
After some more adventures, smth smth setup for weird futuristic/ancient form of Donphan he recognises. Mabosstiff... Is cured! The relief on his face and the tension of the story is relieved as the dog wears again its toothy grin. This sort of thing is actual good storytelling methinks. Simple but effective. What a great... Wait it's not over.
Apparently it is revealed that you must finally go to Area Zero, together with the other cast, it's exciting because there's been so much build up to it, mystery and weird new pokemon. However it is also revealed that, one of the strongest deliveries in the story, Arven has an absentee parent, which made him be on his own... With only Mabosstiff as his family. This is potent. Of course this makes you want to meet this prick, see what kind of character does such a thing, but more importantly, it gives weight to Mabosstiff's recovery, together you saved not a dog, but the only family left by his side.
After you completed all three routes, he shows you the way to area zero. Which you discover about the place and the Professor, fellow of science, too absorbed in it, made a time machine oh so that was the deal with that donphan, oh cool there's more where it came from. There's also some very cool banter with the three coprotags, specially love the one about parents, this stuff is more direct than even Sun and Moon sometimes.
The Professor is acting odd though. Arven is suspecting something's off but doesn't really like the implication. You get swarmed, paradox pokes at all flanks. Another Lizard. Arven also reveals that he was envious and blamed Mirai/Koraidon for his parent's absence as there seems some unknown trust finally building up between them at the end of the scene. You enter the lab and finally get to meet...
Oh.
AI Sada/Turo. The professor died in an accident, standing in their place is an imperfect cold and robotic replica of the deadbeat progenitor. This "delivery" if you didn't have it spoiled just, hits way different that all others, the person who you probably hate by now, is long gone, no happy or cathartic reunion, no Arven giving a piece of his mind. If he wasn't by now, your friend is now officially an orphan. This copy seems to garner regret from its actions, its work is too dangerous and wants you to destroy it. The one thing that came over its family, its true passion, it is at least able to do away with it. However, you have to battle it as the defence system overrides its AI with this... well, it's pretty much the part of it you hate, obsessed, distant(literally lol it's like a good story above you up there). You beat it as your friends and Arven come to see the machine terastalize its insides or smth and it blocks your pokeballs and send the aggresive Legendary agaisnt you, completely unarmed you try to do something but your Sandwitch friend the MotoLizard achieves his battle mode. This makes things even, however you tetastalize him into even more of a dragon and oneshot him.
Last scene, AI is defeated, however for the machine to be over, "it" has to be over too. Arven pleads for it to stay, but it decides to go to its paradise, its life work and creation takes it to a different time in a final act both selfish and selfless sacrifice, In front of its son. Finally, "the climax".
You see, this all lead up to this, every setup and every delivery. Arven has finally faced the memory of his Father/Mother and it, in consecuence, has faced him. A bit of a somber note, but hey this is a treasure hunt, what about his treasure. I can't believe I'm saying this but this is one of the best implementations of "The friends we made along the way" trope I've seen. You see Arven has this factor of "afraid of ending all alone" that is implied a bit through the game, he is a bit abrasive but has a good heart. The last scene(Not the Ed Sheeran one) shows him on a understandable horrid mood when suddenly both Penny and Nemona suggest to go to eat, he is hard to get at first but this sense of now, connection to these people, propels him to join (Also Lizard nudge).
This is actually, even if way more contained, a bit on par with explorers of sky for best writing pokemon ever had. At least in my view on the matter what do you think?

OK OK OK... I'M WORKING ON SOMETHING- HEAR ME OUT-
An ex- Team Rocket trio try and help Amethio not make the same mistakes they did when they were younger. (Aka wasting several years of their lives chasing down a child, attempting to rob them of a pokemon, just so they can give it to the boss for possible approval)
Since Amethio is supposedly confirmed to be a teenager, and they're about 26 in this situation, the trio just basically adopts him after a while

I'm making content!
Hullo, I'm Vism! I'm an adult, and i'm Gender Apathetic, so use any pronouns you want, it makes no difference to me.
Madhouse is a webcomic/blog created and written by Lily Orchard and drawn by Mikaila Orchard, where their fictional counterparts live out a happy slice of life existence together with their Pokémon.
The reality is, however, that the comic has become about a romantic relationship Lily has with the Gardevoir in the story, as they have both confessed to it in-story multiple times. A story intent on deconstructing the degeneracy they see in the fandom has turned into just becoming said degeneracy, all while trying desperately to convince you it hasn't.
It has given me some inspiration, however! thus... I am rewriting the story of Lily's PokeMadhouse!
I will post character redesigns, story beats, fanfiction, artwork, and perhaps even small comics. Asks are highly appreciated, ask about anything you want to know before i'd talk about it myself, or send me art prompts, even! I'll answer any ask eventually unless it's hostile
(You don't need to read the original comic to make sense of my work!)
TRIGGER WARNING: This blog will mention and discuss topics one may want to avoid for any number of reasons. The stories i will tell are generally wholesome, but like everything, there's something lurking underground... Be Safe!

Hi there!
I'm Inky. I go by she/her and I'm 20 years old. I like to play video games, to draw, and write. My favorite video game franchise is pokemon which is what I'll mainly be posting about. Kinda. For I will be posting about my rewrite of Poke Madhouse rewrite. For those who don't know Poke Madhouse is a comic written by the infamous Lily Orchard. It's about her in a romantic relationship with her gardevoir G. Yeah you read that right. I have decided to rewrite it because I can and I feel like I can make it into a story worth reading. So I'll be posting character redesigns and the story here. As well as my general problems with poke madhouse in general. So if you are interested in this process then please give me a follow.

Episode 1 - Venture
Silence.
Dead silence.
The darkness from the outside is said to be a lot of things to those brave or unfortunate enough to venture towards it. Cold. Barren. Unforgiving.
It's as if the sky had fallen into a deep slumber and the stars refused to shine for it.
One thing's for certain, amidst all the nothingness that the outside offers ... the fireflies remained, undisturbed and scatter fragments of what the world once was.
...
[VARGAS]: "I think this is a good place to rest, don't you think?"
[ALMAREN]: "..."
There was no response from Almaren, only staring into the distance.
[VARGAS]: "Alma? You there?"
[ALMAREN]: "Hmmm? Oh right ... yeah, I think this is a good place for now."
[VARGAS]: "Are you feeling alright? You seemed to space out there for a bit ..."
[ALMAREN]: "I'm fine, Vargas. Let's just rest here in the meantime."
With that, Vargas planted his lantern on the ground with its ethereal white glow lighting up a small area in their vicinity. Soon enough, a few of the fireflies would circle around it, providing the two a bit of company in the darkness.
[No hostile entities detected. It is safe to rest.]
[Questions for VARGAS and ALMAREN are now accepted.]

Primeape: Why one of the ugliest Pokemon is my favorite.
Tumblr media
This guy, yeah this guy. He's my favorite. (along with banette)
Why is this ball of pure hatred and anger my little scrimbo? Nostalgia. I was a gen 4 baby, but I grew up with hand me down gen 1 pokemon cards, toys, and most importantly a VHS tape of a few episodes of the Pokemon anime.
Specifically the episodes where ash finds a mankey, fails to catch it, lil man gets so furious he EVOLVES and beats the living hell out of ash, his friends, and team rocket for good measure. He eventually catches him only to give him away a few episodes later.
Something about this little ball of rage has resonated with me ever since and I was super excited to see it got a new evolution in scarlet and violet.
I have yet to meet another soul that considers the mankey line to be their favorite but I hope new players will love using annhilape in SV so that they too will come to cherish the fury pig monkey as much as I do.

Pitch: A Pokèmon game where the Champion is built up the same way Leon is, a big celebrity that gives you your starter and then overall seems to play a big role in the story.
Until they are murdered by the evil team less than 20 minutes into the game.
Your motivation is now to beat all 8 gyms to become strong enough to defeat the evil team. Going on their journey because of roughly the same reason is the Champion's child, who wants to annihilate the evil team leader for killing their father/mother. Together, you blow chunks in the evil team that threatens the entire region.

By the time the year of graduation rolled around, Tide had made a close group of friends who would walk home together, hangout, help each other with homework, or talk on the phone. This group consisted of 9 students including him and his sister who was a grade younger than him. His sister, Lexi, gradually started hanging out with Tides friends since they all took the same way home. Lexi loved cute Pokémon and wanted to be a teacher at the school they were attending. Sometimes, Tide could swear that he saw his sister hiding food and taking it to the bushes where possible Pokémon were hiding.
One night, he caught her outside near the bushes searching for something. The sun was setting soon so Tide went over to his sister to see what she was up to. She seemed concerned and he questioned her about it. She confessed that she had been feeding a group of Eevee, but none of them have been showing up lately. She was worried that something bad could have happened to them. Tide reminded her about the dangers of being out in the dark and he walked with her inside. Lexi was not as motivated as she was in school and seemed to be in a slump. Trying to help her out, Tide and his friend group asked around the city to see if anyone knew about the Eevee. A few did mention that they had seen a single Eevee hiding and running from people into the alleys. Lexi was determined to look for the Eevee and so she convinced Tide to sneak out of the house with her after dark to search the city. Lexi had brought some left overs from dinner hoping to lure the Eevee out. Not long into the search Tide and Lexi came across a figure on the other side of the road. It looked like it could be Eevee, but the two were silent, scared they might frighten the Pokémon before they could get a good look. The two slowly walked towards the shadowy figure trying not make any sudden movements or loud out burst. They were almost across the street when the Pokémon turned around and saw them. All three of them froze and then the Pokémon ran towards them as if something was chasing it. It jumped up and landed right in Lexi’s arms. It was one of the Eevee she had been feeding, but it looked badly injured. Tide and Lexi looked at each other in concern for what could have possibly happened to the other Eevee.

I recently started getting into the idea of a more "adult" pokemon series.
Not necessarily like pokemon with boobs or actual footage of pokemon mating or whatever, but if we're gonna put the end of the world on someone's shoulders multiple times it sure as hell shouldn't be a 10 year old.
I also want to put more real-world problems into the world of pokemon. It's not like they necessarily have to CHANGE the entire world of pokemon, we just really need a less lighthearted protagonist.
And an older one too. I wanna hear a fifteen or sixteen year old curse at a trainer cheating. Not to make them look "cool" or anything, but because if used correctly, swear words can be a great way to show emotion in the characters.
People like trauma, and I am no exception. It's just lame to put that trauma on a ten year old who should have ptsd after all that he's been through.
Also, the show should be less careless. Ten year old Ash does NOT have rizz. Period. Kisses should not be shared between beings who would usually be snot-nosed brats in reality. And a ten year old sure as hell should not be sharing a house with some random professor.
There are so many ways to turn pokemon into a darker anime. And that is REALLY what I want as a part of the older audience. Pokemon is nostalgic but really boring for someone who isn't also 10 years old.
