For my Journaling projects I've been looking for a way to take pictures, but have them look vintage, or taken by a vintage camera, so my dad, being the pawn and thriftnunter he is (his version of my grandma's yard sale addiction I guess, lol) has provided me with an early birthday present! (He couldn't wait lol)
Still looking for film, but here is a polaroid model j33 land camera [left] and a kodak tourist II [right] also the flash holder but we aren't sure it's the right one, still a cool peice to have.
I grew up living with my grandparents who kinda never got past the 70s, so most of the stuff in their house was from the 50s 60s and 70s, and still working, if it didn't it was an important family heirloom from before. I'm really fond of stuff like this, it reminds me of my grandma teaching me to type on the heaviest "portable" typewriter ever, my grandfather showing us how to use the victrola, and my grandfather's love of photography and collecting every camera he's had since the 80s.
If you ever wanna see my hands tremble from excitement, this is the way to go lol.
Hopefully, I can get at least one of them working, the polarid seems functional, but finding film for the kodak is easier so we'll see. If anyone knows anything I'd love to know!
I love vintage stuff so much, tech, movies, places, ect. It's weird being (almost) 23 in the time period and feeling genuine excitement and nostalgia for things like this.

The Polaroid Land Camera is 75 Years Old
It's so sad to type this.
Without fail, every single time I’ve pulled my Polaroid Land Camera out, people have gotten excited. In the last decade, I bought a beautifully restored Polaroid 185 that was going to be my last and final Polaroid Land Camera after going through a long hunt for a good one. And this year, I’ve made it a point to undo the emotional traumas that the discontinuation caused. When the film dried up,…

Presence, or Polaroid Ghosts (Part 2)
Part 1 Histories Polaroids are shackled to nostalgia. Its aesthetic perfectly embodies the past tense, especially in the cold light of today’s digital world. The presence captured, however, makes even the oldest photos whisper of the living moment as it happened. As an object, they are driven by this contradiction. Being so close to our lives charges these images with supernatural static. But,…

Edwin H. Land was born on May 7, 1909. An American scientist and inventor, best known as the co-founder of the Polaroid Corporation. He invented inexpensive filters for polarizing light, a practical system of in-camera instant photography, and the retinex theory of color vision, among other things. His Polaroid instant camera went on sale in late 1948 and made it possible for a picture to be taken and developed in 60 seconds or less.
