have you perhaps a list of readings you would recommend to understand better disco elysium/sacred and terrible air? i wouldn't know where to start and your posts are interesting so worth trying to ask :)
aw thank you! Well, I feel like I’m not really that well-read, and the order I read philosophy/history/etc is all over the place lol
If I had to recommend some reading, there is this essay about the pale, that I think is essential to understanding Elysium. :
https://ghelgheli.substack.com/p/introductory-entroponetics
as for books, I would say Capitalist Realism by Mark Fisher could be a good starting point. And I think it would be worth to read something about these topics:
neoliberalism, capitalism
communism - marxism, history of socialist countries
russian nihilism
christianity - dispensationalism
The devs have said that they were influenced by Hegel, Marx, Slavoj Žižek, Lenin, & they also said they used to be anarchists so I would say reading some anarchist text could be interesting too if you want to really dive into it (idk, Emma Goldmann for example)
You can find a lot of these writings on these websites:

I NEED to know why the transformers fandom is relevant
Tumblr media
okay so, assuming you don't know anything beyond like. 4 characters: Megatron is depicted as a revolutionary in several of the continuities which bleeds over to the fandom perception, and he of course falls into that "bad guy makes good points so we need to have him commit genocide so people don't agree with him" camp. The comics published by IDW up to a few years ago had Megatron be essentially at the very bottom of the working class, while Optimus Prime was a fucking cop. Megatron rightfully pointed out the injustices on their planet, but was Too Radial™ about it, so of course he became the evil warmonger and Optimus Prime (canon police brutality enjoyer) went about it the Right Way™.
The comics series has had a MASSIVE impact on both the fandom and franchise itself, with current cartoons continuing to pull from it. It wasn't all bad, there are some interesting characters and in-universe concepts that IDW introduced, but what I've described above has left a really bad taste in my mouth.
So, with the main Transformers fandom on tumblr being a bunch of white 30 year old ao3 addicts whose peak theory moment was reading a Twitter thread, these cunts LOVE to act like they have everything figured out by reading that fucking god awful comics series and having their main takeaway be "yeah Megatron was right to build literal extermination camps, also cops are cool". It's soooooo annoying

I really feel like a lot of the whole “being (x minority) I thought of (x) philosopher’s theory when I was 12” is a pretty huge misunderstanding of the field of philosophy as whole

I've read your pinned post and wanted to say something, as a white girl but also a South European: the "homestead" term is historically bounded to white supremacy, yes, but only in those countries of the Western world that actively participated in colonialism and built their economic fortune on slavery. I'm a contemporary history graduate and I can assure you NOT ALL OF WESTERN WHITE COUNTRIES WERE INVOLVED IN COLONIALISM. Go ask a Hungarian, a Moldovian, an Albanian if their grandparents were white suprematists because they owned a homestead and they will laugh. Also, some European peoples were themselves victims of colonialism. So please please please when you all talk about specific historic issues consider learning how to divide nowadays political discourse from actual historic work. "Fancy" political discourse has most of the time nothing to do with serious historic researches (at least, in European universities; I cannot speak for the level of academia in the US...).
I am also a history graduate student at a european university, but thank you for this ask anyway. I don't disagree with your general point-- that colonialism is not a strictly racial divide with white people being the colonizing party and all non white people the colonized. Like that's definitely true. When speaking about the term homestead, i am discussing it as a white supremacist dogwhistle, not saying that anyone who grows their own food is a racist. i would expect that the words agrarian subsistence farmers in hungary, moldova and albania used to describe their homes and their lifestyles would not be "homestead" because it is, an english word.
Consider also that this is a tumblr aesthetic blog and not a historical research conference, where the focus of discussion is, in fact the "fancy" (whatever that means in this context) political discourse which pervades the space and has pervaded it historically.
I'm sure as a student of contemporary history you would understand the historical connections between colonialism, white supremacy, and "blood and soil" rhetoric which used the visuals and languages of pastoralism. this is what i am referring to when i say that homestead is used as a dogwhistle.
also, the idea that a country or a people being subjects of colonialism means they cannot also, at the same or another time, be the perpetrators (or beneficiaries) of it is laughable. i would say that yes, EVERY western white country was involved in colonialism, to varying degrees, at the same time that some are/were subjects of it.
my apologies if this response was disorganized; but i found your assertion that political discourse (which i take from context here to be discussions of the current effects and manifestations of colonialism) not only is but should be largely divorced from serious historical study to be misguided at best. In fact I find it difficult to think of an example wherein the discussions are unrelated.

Hey, just wanted to let you know that that Cal and Obi art you just reblogged is AI generated.
Ehhh, @fonmythenmetz (OP) has been pretty clear that it was also hours of drawing; they did the sketch, used the program to generate texture and color, and then went in and manually fixed/detailed/adjusted things to their satisfaction. Is that enough to not qualify as an abuse of the program in the way we understand it to be? Maybe, maybe not, but it's definitely not completely ai-generated.
I'm not sure at which point we distinguish between ai-generated and ai-aided, but I believe it's more of a 'used a program to do roughs for the colors and generate texture on the trees so I could focus on the faces and figures' than 'I fed it a prompt and posted the result.' It's significantly more effort than most AI art since they did the initial sketch and all the detail work, but less than something like the program that the itsv/atsv team used to overlay lines on the characters for that comic-book look (they manually drew a bunch to train the program, and then used that to simplify the process for the rest of the movie).
In this particular case, I think I'll leave it up, but I'm open to hearing the discussion on where this falls on the spectrum of AI use, morally.

A reminder of what's at stake for all the weird idiots that think their pride as an outsider to the establishment is more important than effective political strategy, and interrupting my nut.
Project 2025 i.e. the cartoon villain party's plot to turn the country into a christian dictatorship.
I don't care what happens, unless the Republican party crumbles, vote effectively. Everybody's fucked rn, and it can get worse.
If you want better, like me and everybody else, go do the work between elections to prop up a candidate who can do more.
go do the work between major elections and vote at all the local ones.
go do the work between elections and help your local activist groups work on projects within, and between your communities.
Being a dumbass for clout is not helpful.
