“Come on bath time!” Simon shouted from the bathroom causing the two little heads that were currently crowding you to whip round, this was the 3rd time he had called them but they were too interested in the newest little member of the family, you still hadn’t decided on a name for him so for now he was simply ‘baby Riley’.

The twins were very curious about him, Jude the oldest by 5 minutes stroked his head.

“He has no hair?”

“He’s only a baby, you two didn’t have any when you were born” you ran you hand over his head of brown curls. Though they both looked like John they had your eyes. JJ the quieter of the two rested his head on your shoulder, he was very much a mummy’s boy an hadn’t quite adjusted to sharing you with the new baby he hadn’t need to with Jude as he was John and Simons little shadow, so JJ got you all to himself most days, but now with the new baby taking up nearly all of your time he was as clingy as ever.

“You better go get in the bath for dad or your Daddy won’t be able to read you a story for bed when he gets home” you kissed JJ on the head.

Just as Jude began to protest Simon appeared at the foot of the bed a towel over each shoulder.

“Right…bath now!” His pretend angry voice out in full force making the boys squeal he gripped Jude by the ankle dragging him down the bed. JJ pushed himself behind your pillows. With Jude secured under his arm like a little barrel giggling Simon made his way over to JJ who only tried to bury himself further into the pillows.

“JJ watch your mum and the baby!” John called from the door.

“Daddy!!” Jude waved at his dad from under Simon’s arm.

“Come on JJ, the quicker you get in the bath the longer the bed time story” John made his way over to you ruffling Jude’s hair as he passed. He kissed the top of the baby’s head then yours. JJ pouted at the lack of attention from his dad.

“If you go get in the bath now, I’ll come tuck you in before daddy reads to you how about that?” You tickled his side making him giggle but he still seemed reluctant to leave your side. John raised his eyebrow at his son, He nodded raising his arms for Simon to pick him up.

“Good lad” Simon held his arm out for JJ to use to climb up him.

You smiled at JJ an he returned it. Good he was back on side. Simon pretended to drop them both as he left the room causing a loud squeal to erupt from them both.

You turned your attention to John who was now crouched at the side of the bed his hand stroking the babies back. His eyes not tired but soft he looked content.

“Do you think he’ll have hair like the lads?Wonder if he’ll be a little blondie like Si?” John laughed looking up at you.

“Maybe, he does look fairer than the boys did at this age” you tilted your head to look. He was perfect either way, a then as if he had read your mind he opened his little eyes as he did a yawn and a big stretch his little fingers and toes all spread out.

“That’s it son! Big stretch! He’s definitely going to be tall haha” John placed his finger in the babies tiny hand.

“He’s got a good grip on him, that’s a good sign” John smiled.

You could hear screaming and giggling coming from the bathroom and a lot of splashing water…

“That’ll do!” Simons fake angry voice again, John looked up at you.

“Go and help him…” you smiled

“They get that giddiness from you…” He cocked his eyebrow he was right, but he got up anyway kissing you and the baby again before he left to face what ever monsoon the twins had created.

“Right pack it in…why’s the entire floor wet, Si you take JJ I’ll take Jude”

You watched from the door as John sat on the floor next to JJ’s bed reading jack and the bean stork doing all the voices, Simon sat the same next to Jude listening just as intently as the boys with Baby Riley swaddled tightly in one arm and Jude snuggled up under the other.

Fatherhood suited them and it had changed them both for the better.

Ruby Rose is either bisexual or aromantic depending on how I'm feeling that day. Sometimes both. In all cases she's trans.

Weiss is pansexual. I'm so sorry to the lesbian Weiss truthers but I like this headcanon too much to part with it

Lesbian Yang is real, I've done a complete 180 on my opinion of her bc at this point I just can't see her with a man.

Oof, the only thing I can think about is when people used to treat Yang as dumb for some reason? But that's died down fortunately (or at least I hope so), so I'll go with some ships.

Because honestly I don't get the appeal of most Jaune ships lol. I love the boy don't get me wrong, he's lovely and he's grown a lot, but aside from Arkos or poly JNR I can't get myself to care for any of them, especially if they involve any of RWBY. But if you, reader, have a Jaune ship that is worth it, I'm willing to give it a thought.

A life update from Mr Menow

Since it's been a while, here's an update from Mr Menow on the state of this Tumblr.

If you’re one of those rare people who’ve been following me on Tumblr for a while, you’ll have noticed posting has gotten lighter as the years have gone on. The type of content on MostlyNotWork has also evolved.

This began as a place to share my polyamory journey, especially my early years with Rainbow. It was also a place where I engaged in some creative writing, inspired as I was at the time by both my experiences with poly and the new relationship energy I had with Rainbow. (And intermittently with others.)

It also became somewhere to document my rediscovery of the joy of reading. After finishing university, very little of my reading was just for fun. I still read a LOT, due to the nature of my work. But it wasn’t reading for fun or personal reasons.

Rainbow prompted me to pick up books again, and MostlyNotWork became the place I collected my thoughts on what I was reading. Over time, it grew to be the main thing I posted, with a scattering of poly pieces and other randomness thrown in.

From my first ‘Year of Reading’ through to the start of the COVID pandemic, I always beat my goal of reading at least one book a month. Initially my goal was one fiction book a month. Over time I expanded to include non-fiction, opening up space to read self-help, biographies and other books that might give me a new outlook.

The pandemic

The pandemic really hurt my reading goals. Historically, most of my reading was on my commute. So when work shifted to being at home, my habits changed.

On the plus side, I spent a lot more time exercising, doing things around the house, and playing ‘Magic: The Gathering’ with Menow Jnr. Once the initial crisis phase of the pandemic had been dealt with, the stay-at-home orders also meant more quiet time with Mrs Menow. Out of necessity, it was also a time where I connected with people online, and some of those friendships continue today.

In the middle ground - I spent more time on my Xbox and PC gaming. They’re things I enjoy doing, but given how much my eyesight has deteriorated the last couple of years, extra time close to a computer screen may not have been the best choice.

On the down side - reading for leisure really suffered. A lot. I thought it may pick up last year when I wasn’t as mentally drained by pandemic fatigue, but it didn’t. 

There were other changes that probably fell somewhere along that spectrum, but I’ll leave those to come back to another time.

Getting back to reading

Reading this year has fluctuated wildly. It started to pick up earlier this year, but after I was let go from my old job (which had me commuting again) the obvious reading time was gone again. Don’t worry, I’ve picked up a new job I’m enjoying. But it’s mostly working at home so... still no commuting time. 

Taking a cue from ‘Atomic Habits’, I’ve looked for ways to weave reading into my week. I’ve also set some more achievable reading goals - starting with three days where I try and read fr at least half an hour throughout the day. That’s something I can hopefully accomplish by picking up a book before dinner or bed. I might even make a habit of taking a book when I go to the coffee shop - I just need my local to reopen.

Other creative ventures

MostlyNotWork has also been a place for creative outlets like my writing and the occasional digital imagery. It might just be the place where I play around with some of the generative AI of a NSFW nature.

So wrapping up… 

So that’s where things are at for now. I’ve got a couple of books almost finished, so hopefully I can get them up soon(ish).  And the AI imagery will just depend on my mood.  Till then, may the odds be ever in your favour, and be excellent to each other.

Try not to imagine Nora screaming at the closing portal, slamming her fists against the barrier trying to get back to Jaune. Try not to imagine Ren staring helplessly at her, a cloud of blue and red petals surrounding her in a tornado of grief. Imagine the two watching winter come out alone, no Penny, no Rwby, and most importantly no Jaune. Try not to imagine Noras numb walk to Vacuo and Rens breakdown at the sad truth that another piece of his heart is gone. Try not to imagine Nora and Ren adding a splash of yellow to their clothes after the services. Try not to imagine Ren breaking down, filled with self loathing that some of the last words he spoke to Jaune were ones designed to hurt him, to shame him. Try not to imagine Jaune waking up alone on a deserted island, the blood of a friend on his blade, and this time he’s the one that sent his loves away. Imagine Jaune believing he’s not coming back, and that he’s failed the two people he loves most. Imagine Ren and Nora realizing despite everything they did, they still lost another lover to Cinder and still never had a chance to say goodbye.

i actually do think about renorarc on a regular basis and given the potential fucking ANGST that could come from it……. delicious.

let’s skip to their reunion though, shall we? the utter relief that renora feel when they see jaune’s tall frame, with his hair starting to get a little messy again because he’s been gone a while. ren’s not one to initiate physical affection much, but he can’t help but throw his weapons down and absolutely leap into jaune’s arms. nora’s literally just bawling her eyes out and burying her face in his chest. and they’re all so happy that another teammate wasn’t lost, that out of sheer dumb luck, they’ve managed to get this far and shit, if they started this journey together, there’s no way they’re not gonna end it together.

Your thoughts on Poly JNPR either if Pyrrha lives AU or following on from canon.

I think what would make poly JNPR really good in a Pyrrha lives AU would be exploring how Pyrrha's position on the team would shift after all hell breaks loose. This girl who's gone her whole life being the best of the best with these high expectations put on her shoulders is suddenly in a situation where none of them know what to do and are all equally powerless to stop what's coming.

JNR in canon are very close because they've become each other's support pillars in their grief. I think Pyrrha trying to fit into that dynamic of support and allowing others to take some of her weight off would be the ideal scenario.
