Therian/otherkin things I do that may or may not be giving me away (tag yourself if you want):
-shaking my head like a wet dog to re-fluff my hair
-running up the stairs on all fours
-curling my fingers in whenever I put my hand down on the table/desk/etc. (might be more of a quadrobics thing but still)
-twitching my head to mimic twitching my ears
-staring intently out the window at the sky (wishing I could fly in it) for abnormal amounts of time
-making weird raptor-dinosaur-bird screeches (bonus points when it's in the woods at night)
-having a cloak. like a straight up cloak. (to mimic wings)
-the absurd amount of masks I paint (why haven't my parents questioned why the wall is covered in them?)
-jumping up trees, stairs, etc. front paws first (trained myself to do this for quads and now I can't stop)

If I had a super power, it would be to shape shift.
Is it because i’m genderfluid? Is it because i’m an alterhuman? Is it because im Autistic?
Who knows

a difficult aspect of possessing multiple kintypes is wanting to be one thing, to be whole, to be able to clearly define yourself. my advice when you're having these feelings? just throw it out the window.

A message to polytherians.
If you find yourself thinking, "I wish I could just have one theriotype." This is a TRAP. And I'll tell you why but first there are two things I want you to do following this thought.
1. Ask yourself. And really think about it. You want to be a monotherian? If you were a monotherian, what would you want your theriotype to be? You kinda get stuck, right? You kinda feel like all of your theriotypes are you and it's easier said than done to just choose one you'd want to keep? It's not so easy to say, "yeah, I think I'd rip this and this identity from who I am as a person. If I had the opportunity." I've been down this road. You cannot just choose one because you are not one.
2. Now ask yourself. And really think about it. Why do you want this? Let me put it this way. If you were the only therian on Earth, you would still be polytherian, right? And what would you want then? Me, I think I'd just want to be myself, and not in a million years would I be preoccupied with whether I'd get taken more seriously if only I was just a grey wolf.
You are what you are. You cannot choose. I used to waste my time with hypotheticals where I was only one species. But the truth is these have as much of a point as hypotheticals where I'm a French Canadian contractor in the 1980s named Stephan. My species is who I am. There is no reality where I am only one.
There is beauty in polytherianthropy. You contain multitudes! Most living things on Earth are only one species. You're several! Isn't that absurd and wondrous? You are like a quilt. There's probably nothing else in the universe quite like you. Rejoice in it!

Tip for all Dragonkin!
There is a website called Flight Rising that is normally used to raise dragons and the like, BUT did you know that they have a generator on their site that is free to use that could help you depict what you look like (as a dragon)?
Here’s how to do it: Go to https://www1.flightrising.com/ and go down to where you see the Library section. What you want to do is select “Scrying Workshop”.
Tumblr media
Once you click on Scrying Workshop, go to Predict Morphology.
Tumblr media
This will take you to the generator. This was the easy part, now let’s get into specifics.
When it comes to the Morphology generator, it is typically on the site for users to depict what their future dragons will look like. However, you can just as easily use it to help you with figuring out what you look like (at least in specifics, that is).
The page for the Morphology generator should look something like this for you:
Tumblr media
OPTIONAL: I recommend looking into some of the races of Flight Rising’s dragons as well as their behavior and feeding habits before selecting what may visually apply the most to you. As a former user of the site, I was already familiar with a few but I wanted to look into newer species to see if they reflected what I specifically felt with one of my kintypes.
I’ve found that not only do Obelisk Dragons feel the closest to me aesthetically, everything about them checks out for me minus their diets (I don’t particularly care for seafood, and I am very grossed out by most bugs). Thus, here we are:
Tumblr media
If you don’t particularly care to do that when depicting yourself, then that’s fine too! Do what makes you most comfortable, just be sure to give credit to FR when using these depictions of your dragon kintype!
Hope this helps for some!

Different Branches of Therianthropy/ Otherkinity
So I just spent an hour researching different branches of otherkinity/therianthropy, here's what I learned and how I can describe it best (please don't get mad if I fucked something up, just tell me and I'll fix it)
Cladotherian: May identity as one type of animal but doesn't identity with one species of that animal, and instead identifies with all or none at all. Example: Identifies as a wolf but not a specific type, but rather all of them.
Contherian: Someone who doesn't experience mental shifts but is in a constant state of balance of their kintype and humanity and it doesn't fluctuate. They are constantly around half human and half animal and that's integrated into them.
Suntherian/Syntherian: Very similar to a contherian, however it's not always an exact balance and instead at one point they can be more animal than human and vice versa they also may experience mental shifts.
Copingkin: Identifying as something, involuntarily, to cope with something.
Copinglink: Identifying as a fictional character knowingly and willingly to cope with something.
Otherhearted: Feeling an insanely strong connection with an animal to the point where you fully understand and relate to it but you do not identify as it but rather identify with it.
Kinfluid: By itself (polykinity not being involved) fluid feelings of humanity and your alterhumanity coming in waves almost
Polytherian: someone who identifies with more than one species of animal Example: Identifying as a domestic cat, leopard gecko, and arctic fox. (Although two is enough to identify as polytherian)
Shapeshifterkin: someone who has a kintype that's constantly shifting but also prominent and can identify as it
Polymorphkin: someone who doesn't fully identity as any one kintype and they may have a kintype that is more prominent but for them it can change at anytime and for anything they may connect with it can be in completely different ways

that shapeshifter feel when you have to be careful regarding what media you consume because you know damn well you're going to imprint on something and it's going to turn into a new form/kintype that will last for the next... well, forever, actually.

Maybe im not cladotherian and actually just polytherian. Because I still look at myself and just think, oh yeah, that's a canine. But also, over time, I've kinda just realized that it's not so much the entire genus and instead just some specific species. I also feel like my theriotypes are deeply tied to who I am, how I grew up, and how I function. I know I'm a wolf for certain. I get especially shifty in the winter, and it will stay somewhat dormant in the warmer months. I feel drawn to my coyote theriotype in the spring and summer, and having grown up in the deep south, it helps that it makes me feel more comfortable in where I call home.
My dog theriotype is pretty much always present. I'm just doglike in nature.
And then my raccoon tends to flair up, especially when I regress? Like it's usually either puppy or raccoon.
This isn't really me panicking about this or anything tbh. Sometimes, it just feels nice to talk about it.
