unfortunately my playlist hasn’t changed much since the last time i did this, so instead, i’m gonna put my “discover weekly” playlist on shuffle and rate the first 10 songs i get. so thank u for the tag babe but i will not be following a single rule.

🪸 erghan diado (song of schopsko) by bulgarian state television choir: we are starting off this list so insanely strong. i have no idea what made spotify assume i would like this but they were 100% correct. apparently this choir performs modern arrangements of traditional bulgarian folk melodies, and this song is from one of their most recognized projects. four stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

🪸 choreomania by florence + the machine: i was surprised to see this song was written before the pandemic, but it turns out that welch based this off of the dancing plague of 1518, where 400 women danced themselves to death. what a cool coincidence that she released a song based on a phenomenon ppl theorize occurred as a result of plague-related stress post-covid. obsessed with the behind-the-scenes info, and the song is catchy. four stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

🪸 becky by be your own pet: HOLY SHIT. ohhh no. “i heard u talked a lot of shit abt me / to ur new best friend / but it doesn’t matter anyway / cos i’ll find a new best friend / … but, you know, i gotta say / i loved going to your slumber party” this is fucking me up. childhood friends are like runaway cats u keep hanging up missing posters but u’ll never get them back. “he doesn’t miss carol not really or rather he doesn’t miss the woman she’s making herself into. kid carol tho … he misses that version of her sometimes” etc etc. this is reminding me so much of those homoerotic friendships i had at 8 with other girls that always ended in catastrophe, but i still remember their landline numbers. five stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

🪸 bury a friend by pomplamoose: i’m pretty positive this was recommended to me based on my obsession with loveless’s version of happier than ever. i love a good cover, and that one is fabulous. it adds a brutal new dimension to an already angry song. they bring a great alt rock/emo pop twist to it that i adore. despite how good a cover this one is, i can’t say i love it—i might be a little biased; eilish’s original is haunting and nightmarish and it puts everything it can into creeping u out. i don’t think this cover adds any new flavor the way loveless’ does. it mostly makes me want to listen to the original again. one star ⭐️

🪸 the ghost of chicago by noah floersch: this song is appealing to my love of the midwest. it wasn’t what i was expecting going in but i like it! it’s cute. i know it’s meant to be a “i like this girl so much that she haunts me” kinda ghost song, but tbh i like the idea of the narrator falling in love w an actual ghost much more. it reminds me of this wip i have where—no. i shan’t say. it’s a secret. three stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️

🪸 old cape cod by patti page: … idek what to say abt this. i’m sure white ppl in the 50s thought this was a bop but i do not. zero stars :(

🪸 dizzy in sunlight by the blasting company, ashley nguyen dewitt: now THAT is how u make a dreamy, sunday-afternoon-esque song. the lyrics remind me of a mary oliver poem. “wade in the water / mud covered feet,” “the wind and my mother / they both hold me upright / …oh what a feeling / as the waters / rush over me,” “my sister riding her bike from the store / my grandfather smoking his pope out on the porch / …this life spills over me / and rocks me to sleep”. completely and utterly lovely. five stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

🪸 in dreams by sierra ferrell: i love the country and folk elements in this. i’m currently on a country music fixation and this is right up my alley. such a sweet-sounding love song, i added it to one of my playlists right away. four stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

🪸 neutral spirit hotel by local news legend: omg this reminds me so much of some of my favorite penelope scott songs—sweet hibiscus tea comes to mind; both of these songs are folksy and have this self-deprecating element to them. “i think i say i’m quitting drinking every other week / but it’s so hard to stop / when it’s the only thing that let’s me sleep” dean winchester type shit (sorry). three stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️

🪸 down in the willow garden by the kossoy sisters: HELL YES a strong finish!! this is a traditional appalachian murder ballad about a guy facing the gallows after poisoning his sweetheart and throwing her body in a river. is me liking this song a loss for feminism? IDK. but i like it </3 four stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

My Splatband ideas

TBN: Experimental Electronic/Pop

Three-piece band based in Octo Canyon, with a Blanket Octopus Octoling (Synth+Mixing and Vocals), a very small octotrooper (Bongos, kazoo and other assorted instruments) , and a runaway salmonid (Banjo + Ukulele) .Their music takes notes from both the Octarian and Salmonid music scenes, and their music can be pretty varied. Most, however, is synth pop and electronic with that “weirder” edge to it. The sound is kinda like Pomplamoose, Rednex and a lil bit of TOP blended into... something.

All But Ready: Alt rock, emo?

An inkling duo making their name with lively guitar riffs and heart wrenching lyrics. Dark blue and cherry red ink. One has spiky hair that looks like a cross between Noiji/Clash and Mizo(le) ‘s hair

Metronomad: Alternative, Folk Rock/Americana

A quartet (maybe quintet later on) of sea folk with a strong connection to the past (they’re all fish and critters that existed in prehistoric times). In touch with their heritage and even times before sentience, this band tries to invoke the feeling of a “pervious life”, using natural sounds and old recordings in their work. They sound like a cross of Cosmo Sheldrake, Imogen Heap (esp her most recent endeavor) and maybe a hint of OMAM and/or The Lumineers

Nautilus, Coelacanth, Wobbegong Shark, Sturgeon and/or Alligator Gar.

Six Feet Underwater: Electronic, experimental

The first musical endeavor of ω-3’s DJ. Extremely dreary and intense. They’ve been on a semi-hiatus since joining ω-3, but released some music around 2020-21, which caught the attention of a much larger audience than their first works under the title. This project is under heavy scrutiny and theorization of curious inkfish, trying to unravel the “mystery”. Yknow the type. Currently the popular theory/rumor is that they’re some depressed octoling hidden away in some apartment who may or may not have killed someone or died somehow. People debate whether the latest album is telling a fictional story or is one last cry for help.

α-5 (name tentative): uh Salmon

Another salmonid band. 5 piece, but I may change my mind for 6. Their sound is a lot more noisy, possibly even cluttered, and high-energy. If ω-3 is panic, dread and stress, then α-5 is rage, spite, and the determination to go out with a bang. They do not play around with time signatures as much and are more symphonic, instead staying very intense and loud. I’m not quite sure abt the exacts of instruments but I’d say guitar and drums are both a part. I think their sound would bring Igorrr and Ridiculon to mind, mixed with some songs from the Pikmin games. They’re all girls or fem aligned save for maybe one. They get along better than ω-3.

One of their members is a mudmouth with weird iridescent muck. She provides odd noises by shifting around in her mud form and can form pseudopods of sorts to multitask. Basically fills in misc instruments.

Another is a Flipper Flopper who adores cute things, even collecting inkling/mainland trinkets that wash up. The other members are worried her own preferences will bleed into the sound, which contrasts heavily. She has a separate project or persona that delves into the cuteness she desires. Drummer?

Tidal Bore: basically 100 gecs in splatoon if the ska-ish bits of stupid horse were in more of their songs . Musical duo? Trio?? Warabi might be a part of it but this is more of a concept and idk abt the actual members. Whale Shark and an Inkfish? Octoling?? Maybe a Cuttle-ling?

HELLO I DID TINY THINGS I PLAN ON TURNING INTO STICKERS FOR MYSELF 🌸

I doodle a bit when I'm outside at meetings or stuff like that. Most of my scribbles are of Illumi and Hisoka, and I thought heyyy why not making myself little stickers to slap on my laptop? So I did this.

The sketches are on paper. I take pictures of them and then transfer them to my laptop and line + color them digitally ✨️

The lyrics on the Illumi one are lyrics from Bust Your Kneecaps by Pomplamoose. AGAIN. I swear one day I will stop talking about this song LMAO and the lyrics on the Hisoka one are from the song Sick Bitch by LSDXOXO and the second ones are from a french song by Matyouz Ladurée called My Chatte. The lyrics basically say "my pussy is on fire" and uh I thought it really fitted Hisoka,,, I swear to fuck every time I hear a new sex song I slam it in my Hisoka playlist... My brain turned this man into a slut 😔 (or was he already one?)

I am not drawing much recently... I have been a bit stressed out by current events and focusing is kinda hard. I have a bunch of stuff to finish, including my Illumi birthday thingy. I think I will try to finish it for 11/11 which is another popular headcanon birthday date for him :> I also want to finish my fucked up Hisoka daki and some other stuff, and I have commissions to work on too! 😵‍💫

I hope the will to draw will stay.

Adelaide Playlist - Oh she’s a little bit fucked up actually edition

In honor of my girl’s return, I thought I’d share more of her playlist, this time around the theme of ‘wtf is wrong with her’.

1. “undertow” - suzanne vega

Fun casterisk fact, Suzanne Vega was the first artist I was ever obsessed with, and I think that Adelaide, like me, listened to “The Queen and the Soldier” when she was young and impressionable (probably around the same time that her mom died) and got some very weird ideas about love.

Anyway.

This song has everything. Violence and consumption as love. Self-destruction as a form of liberation (Adelaide’s base rote, the one she developed specifically to use on herself to keep from emotionally spiraling, requires taking 1-harm). “i would leave only bones and teeth / we could see what was underneath / and you would be free then” (masks masks masks its about the fucking MASKS)

And, of course, the chorus, which beautifully captures first Adelaide’s relationship with her dad (i am friends with the undertow / i take you in, i don’t let go / and now i have you) and then how she begins to go through the world, viewing other people as at best tools and at worst obstacles, things to be had and manipulated and destroyed.

The cherry on top is the water motif, obviously, it works so well for both Harborview as a setting and Adelaide’s affinity for the storm and sea.

2. “water witch” - the secret sisters & brandi carlile

I admit I stole this one from the original Exandria Unlimited Fearne playlist, but it’s just too perfect. There’s a monstrous woman waiting out there in the storm, she’s danced with powers beyond her control, and she’s going to make it your problem.

3. “killer queen” - queen

Listen. Did Adelaide sell away her humanity in the pursuit of terrible arcane secrets? Yes. Did she have a great baseline to begin with as a rich queen bee ex-mean girl? Ehhhhhhhhhhh.......

At least she’s fun!

4. “bury a friend” - billie eilish, covered by pomplamoose

I know pop songs, I swear...

There are a lot of individual lyrics from this song that fit Adelaide to a tee: she has in fact seriously hurt her friends before, she views her own destruction as a means to an end, she’s sold her soul, she can’t say no to power...

However, what originally attracted me to this song was, much like penance, a kind of wish-fulfillment, specifically in the questions that start the song: “what do you want from me? / why don’t you run from me? / what are you wondering? / what do you know? / why aren’t you scared of me? / why do you care for me?” I don’t know if Adelaide has anyone in her life who fully knows the truth of what she is or what she’s done and still loves and accepts her.

But I, known Elim Garak and Essek Thelyss lover, am never not a sucker for finding redemption in a lover.

5. “running up that hill” - kate bush, covered by meg myers

No analysis for this one. Just know that THIS is the song that accompanies the imaginary AMV in my head of Adelaide finally confronting her father once and for all.
