Now, if you did a poll of the onceler from the original Dr Seuss book, THAT is something I'd know; read the book in grade school, also watched the movie they made of it, you know the one animated in the illustration style and NOT that creepy thing; and I'm not sure if that means that I am Old, or if it means that I just happened to get on this site after that one meme had run its course, I genuinely don't know if Kids These Days have Dr Seuss books, because I've learned to stop assuming that what I think is "normal", is ACTUALLY normal.

Ngl if the original Onceler from the book had been submitted first, I would've had to make an exception and post this one too just because it's such an iconic piece of Tumblr lore.

So what's Mysterious Lotus Casebook about, and what's it like?

I have seen one (1) cdrama in my life, Legend of Fei (it's good), and I've been forced to learn about MDZS via my dash, but otherwise I'm unfamiliar with the... what's the best word to describe this, not "genre" since I know for a fact there's at least two (prolly much more than that) genres within the thing, but yeah.

So Mysterious Lotus Casebook is a wuxia detective/mystery drama, where wuxia is a Chinese genre that's mostly about martial artists and their adventures in historical China (though not necessarily historically accurate China). These martial arts can (but they don't have to) border on being/straight up be magical.

Mysterious Lotus Casebook in particular follows primarily three men and their situation:

Li Lianhua, a dying doctor searching for the remains of his senior martial brother (his shixiong). He is secretly Li Xiangyi who was once the greatest martial artist around who's been believed dead for the past ten years after a brutal battle on the east sea against Di Feisheng. This battle came to be due to the death of the previously mentioned shixiong.

Fang Duobing, a formerly sickly child who has now grown up and wants nothing more than to be a detective and bring justice to the martial arts world. He also claims to be Li Xiangyi's student—Li Xiangyi knows nothing about this, lol.

Di Feisheng, generally considered the great villain of the martial arts world. A man of mysterious origins who cares for little beyond martial arts and who is very sad about the fact that Li Xiangyi died since this means he no longer has a rival in this world.

The drama is a mix of very silly and fun comedy, drama, detective stories, a larger overarching mystery, self-sacrifice, and betrayals.

I personally had a great time watching it. There's a lot of fun interactions between the larger cast in general, and our leads in particular.

As we follow the story we get to see their relationships change and develop as well as we get to see things start to come to light as our dying protagonist comes ever closer to the end of his rope.

Is there any chance you or anyone else could help me find this one tarot deck? Back in 2007 I downloaded a pdf of it from LimeWire (yes this was a while ago), and the file name said it was from one of those World Of Darkness games, I think Mage The Something, but there's no guarantee that the file name was actually accurate. I remember that the images for the suit of Cups, they were stuff I mentally tagged "the deep"; not just 'emotions' and 'water', but 'subconscious mind', 'deep water', and also tentacles.

Hey, sorry, I don't know anything about those games or any decks associated with them, but a quick Google search reveals the titles Mage: The Ascension and Mage: The Awakening. The first link has an image of a tarot card on it but nothing more than that. And the second link mentions something called Keys to the Supernal Tarot. Not sure if that sounds right or not. Here's a link to it on eBay. And here's a sample pdf.

That's all I could find, so I don't know if this is helpful or not.

From the perspective of someone who hasn't watched Ahsoka and has no intention to either -- in fact I stopped caring about what "canon" put out, at a very specific point a few years ago -- my biggest problem with it is that it doesn't suck ENOUGH.

Like, the dude gets to write a whole show about his favourite OC, I can't rightly blame him for taking the opportunity, he's living the dream. But from all accounts, it's decently executed and technically competent. And like, when you're in a "the higher-ups think you can do no wrong" position, why the hell would you WASTE it like THAT? If you're not going to make something great, then you should make something DEEPLY self-indulgent and weird. Eventually they'll either come to their senses or have a new shiny favourite (depending on how one likes to interpret things), so you're not going to be in that position forever; do you want to be remembered as the dude who made some forgettable stuff, or the dude who gave a long rambling soliloquy on a camera and then had a Bollywood-style dance number with his favourite character?

Looooool I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't immediately promote my OCs to canon either, if Lucasfilm hired me tomorrow y'all would see my SWTOR OCs canonized first thing. XD

I mean, the World Between Worlds is deeply self indulgent and weird imo, but I also think it's stupid so it's not a good kind of weird. At least use it to save Kanan, who was a MUCH cooler character. But I don't think Disney/Feloni cares about much besides making money and pushing one very specific version of Star Wars anymore.

I'm like you - I don't really give af what "canon" is anymore. If I like it, it's canon to me. If it's not, gtfo. I'm too old and Fun Fandom Time is too limited to be worried about what some farts at Lucasfilm think. XD

Wait "Trigun" actually MEANS something as a title?! This whole thing I thought it was just some vaguely-thematic word salad, like D.Grey-man.

lmao surprise! 8'D happens every time~ Yes, the title means exactly that cause Vash literally has, is, and becomes 3 guns.

Which are [kinda spoilery] his obvious revolver held in his right hand, his hidden gun-arm (left prosthetic), and his secret non-human Plant-powered Angel Arm (which manifests from his existing right arm but it can really uhh..form wherever he creatively Needs it to aim, even overhead or backwards for ex. :P)

Often in Trimax (like in vol2) you'll see him wielding the two mechanical guns in both arms at the same time (even in the 98 anime he fought like this in the later eps using both arms), but even when he's (literally) disarmed he still has a hidden, last-resort secret 3rd option up his sleeve! At a power cost, so it's best he Doesn't overuse it. :'D Where there's the whole thing with him preferring to use man-made technology vs fearing/suppressing his (magic? divine? special Gate-powered) 'lost technology' and him learning to fuse all his options together in creative ways as he so chooses to fight and assert himself as a gunslinger~

Let me offer you a prompt I once wrote for a YJA anon meme that went tragically unfilled, haha:

The mentors/mentees all ~magically~ switch bodies with their counterparts. M'gann and J'onn automatically just shift into their preferred human-ish shapes all “no big dealie”, of course, but everyone else is like “FUCK MY LIFE, SUDDENLY I HAVE TEENAGE HORMONES AGAIN/AM THE WRONG GENDER/AM TWICE AS BIG AS I AM COMFORTABLE BEING”, you know the drill.

Except Superboy. Superboy is like “YES, EVERYTHING FINALLY WORKS LIKE THE G-GNOMES SAID IT WOULD. :DDD” Because they were training up a Superman, after all, and weren't concerned with offering body type-appropriate combat training to a kid who had another sixteen “years” worth of aging to do before they were going to pop the cork on him, much less one who hadn't matured into the full set of superpowers. Therefore, Superboy is the only one who knows how to rock his borrowed body, and he immediately proceeds to be awesome at being Superman and protecting the hell out of Metropolis and the world and so on while the unaffected League members are working on a cure and everyone else is tripping over their suddenly-differently-sized feet.

Any pairings you feel like are okay (and gen is totally okay too!), I really just want Superboy to get to know he is going to grow up epic and maybe not have to emo so much about not measuring up to Superman yet. Also maybe M'gann should make him pie. Because Supey deserves pie. X:

Re Wheel of Time, did you know metal band Blind Guardian has done at least two songs about them? 'Ride into Obsession' and the fittingly-named 'Wheel of Time', which is also the final song on one of their albums.
