Really quick sorry if this is worded weird I'm currently on a road trip and I meant to write a fanfic not this lol. But also let me know if this is offensive in anyways and how I could remedy that!! Finally I am not a mental health professional, I am a 15 year old with a Resident Evil hyperfixiation.

Okay so I love all these characters I also am VERY into psychology and mental health and stuff so I think the reason Ethan might not have seen a difference between Mia and Miranda could have been Postpartum psychosis. While not very common that will be a staple in any fic I write for Resident Evil. Postpartum psychosis symptoms include:

-Confusion and disorientation

-Obsessive thoughts about your baby

-Hallucinations and delusions

-Sleep disturbances

-Excessive energy and agitation

-Paranoia

-Attempts to harm yourself or your baby

 The causes for postpartum psychosis is usually a mixture of several causes such as a drop in estrogen and progesterone. It also could be the result of emotional reactions. After having a baby the parent usually doesn't sleep well for around 4-6 months which does lead to depression and anxiety as a result of sleep deprivation. Also another factor is that Mia most likely has severe PTSD she is still working through which does up her chances of having postpartum psychosis. I also would like to say that she likely would not feel comfortable disclosing these thoughts and emotions. The idea that a mother could be suffering through mental strain bad enough to cause homicidal or suicidal thoughts is extremely taboo in our society. 

We do have to keep in mind that Ethan is also probably still struggling through PTSD and depression of his own. I mean having your wife harm you and lie to you about her job is likely to have repercussions on your marriage. While it is possible that they had gotten counseling for their marriage, I would like to acknowledge that their relationship is not a very healthy one and would likely take years of therapy or counseling to get back to the place it was before Louisiana. 

Anyways I made this mostly because I feel weird that Ethan didn't notice a difference between a crazed mutated god-like figure and his wife. Also I wanted a way to acknowledge that Mia is human and is fighting through her own battles and so is Ethan. Also dont try to solve your relationship with a baby Greek mythology is a good example of why not to do that lol.
