I think about how in Op Daddy Fanny was scared to tell Mr Boss that she was in the KND because she was afraid he wouldn’t love her anymore. Because Fanny, up until that point, didn’t know her dad was a villain. Mr Boss’s status was seemingly kept secret from her. Despite this, she was still afraid to tell him she was an operative for what seemed to be no reason.
In Op Closet, the mother was afraid of being seen asking for help from the KND and that she could be kicked out of the club she’s in for it. From what we know the mother isn’t a villain of any kind, she’s just a regular adult. But she still has this bias against the KND or is at least aware that many adults do.
In the opening for Op Safety, we see Senators and Lawmakers passing a law to make ‘math class 70% more boring for kids” and disregard Senator Safely’s demands for Child Safety Laws. A direct quote from the scene; “We’re trying to make some fun laws that make life miserable for kids, not laws to protect them”. Of course, the laws are cartoonishly unserious and Senator Safely’s demands are exaggerated (worrying about kids somehow swallowing fishing rods), we are shown that in the KND universe, the US Government is actively oppressing children and denying them protection and safety.
In the KND universe, a bias against kids and those who fight for their rights is the norm. We see the government denying them rights and we’re told that being associated or even seen with a KND operative can cause an adult to be ostracised. Fanny was afraid to tell Mr Boss that she was a KND operative because, to her, the idea that her dad could turn on her and no longer love her was a real fear despite the fact she didn’t know he was a villain. She probably knows about cases of that actually happening, and the fact that she was a high-ranking operative most likely made that fear even worse.
So basically that scene in Op Daddy is a metaphor for coming out

what do you call it when you’re and extrovert who loves seeing your friends but you sometimes dread hanging out with people because you always come home afterwards and feel gross inside and second guess everything you said, how much you talked, everything you did, whether you hogged the conversation or asked them about themselves enough, and you try not to text them a “sorry if i was weird tonight” text, because that’s even weirder than being weird, and so you lay in bed and try and convince yourself that yes, you were fine and that no, your friend doesn’t hate you and that yes, you behaved normally and that yes, they will hang out with you again! and that’s a relief because you love seeing your friends… but you’re also kinda dreading it because you know you’ll feel this exact same way again next time? is there a name for that?

My latest music nerd musings has been going through all the ffxiv OSTs and picking out all my favorite songs to add to a giant playlist while I'm at work. I just finished ARR and I'm onto Heavensward and my biggest fear is that one of my teenage coworkers is going to ask me what I'm listening to and i'm going to have to explain that I, as a 27 year old adult, am listening to video game music.

This might seem like an "old man yells at cloud" situation, but it's just wild growing up and being told how dangerous distracted driving is - how, at highway speeds, you can traverse the length of a football field (100 yards, 91 meters) in a matter of seconds - how one split second sending a text while driving could result in a potential fatal crash, and then getting on the road as a driver and being surrounded by billboards. Their entire purpose is to catch one's attention, so they're lining major roads, which tend to be highways. How is it that you're told how important it is to never be distracted while driving, but still being advertised to?
At best, this type of advertising is an eyesore to pedestrians and motorists and a general waste of electricity to light it, and at worst, it is an active danger considering they are there to advertise and therefore, must catch people's attention.
I'm not even against advertising in theory, but this particular mode bothers me so much and I hate how pervasive it is - especially in large cities or highways.

There are many new friends on the archive, and many are young and have only known social media, which is why I wanted to say something!
Ao3 does not have an algorithm! It isn't a social media site, it's an archive.
Posting fics on Tumblr isn't the same as posting fics on Ao3
Ao3 is like a giant virtual bookshelf, and everyone is able to add their own stories to the bookshelf, all stored with different tags and different fandoms. Works are automatically sorted by newest to oldest, but filters, looking at bookmarks, and using the search function can change that.
Certain works are not pushed to the top like social media posts. More kudos and reads don't push a single work to more viewers by some algorithm. Unless otherwise filtered, works will be at the top of the page based on how recent it was posted.
Smaller fandoms get less views, less kudos, less bookmarks, and larger fandoms get more simply because of the number of people inside the fandom.
Ao3 is a giant virtual bookshelf- there is no algorithm, and there is no man behind the shelf pushing certain books forward.
Happy reading, and if you'd like to have more people notice a fic, why not share it with them! Send a dm to a fandom friend and it might turn into one of their favorite fics!

Through the shenanigans of GZ/IR portals Danny ends up in a completely different dimension (DC’s my preference) that has heroes. There’s no ghosts to fight and he doesn’t want to step on any toes with this dimensions hero population, meaning Danny Phantom gets a vacation.
( I like to think Danny fought the ghosts in Amity because he opened the portal and felt responsible for it and originally there wasn’t anyone else that really could fight them. If he still has to satisfy an obsession while there he now has time and an entire new star system to learn about. )
Danny somehow ends up at a job interview as a food delivery boy accidentally, it’s definitely not 100% above the table because he doesn’t legally exist there but still gets the job.
Things are going well, he’s doing a good job and making his delivery’s on time via the use of ghost powers on occasion. Eventually he gets a delivery for a completely different city, over two hours away, they’re willing to pay a ton to get it delivered to them. Danny decides to see if he can finish the delivery while the foods still hot.
He gets there in under 10 minutes.
The person that made the order is definitely a hero, and when they got their food two hours early freak out. Asking Danny how he did it. Danny looks them dead in the eyes and says “We have a delivered hot guaranty.” They try to question Danny, but Danny already got paid, he gave them their food, he can leave, so he just walks away and tells them to enjoy their meal.
The hero tells other ones and they decided to order from there as well and get told that when ever Danny’s on shift the delivery range doesn’t have a limit. Obviously they test it. He delivers to a random rooftop in Bloodhaven at 2am. The top of the Dailyplanet. Hong Kong, via a Blackbat/Orphan order. The Titan’s Tower some how.
Eventually someone orderers to one of the places that’s almost impossible to get to, but he does it, he delivers to the watchtower, in space. Just shows up in the middle of the room in front of the person that ordered, and goes “I don’t miss deliveries.” And walks away into space.

ok this sounds insane but in 2018 i went to a few carnivorous plant talks at the botany conference in minnesota. i got caught up in conversation with one of the guys there who was a huge nepenthes guy who told me a story about another collector in the pacific northwest who'd been buying poached plants, like a huge amount, and eventually got staked out by the fish and wildlife service and arrested and had all his plants seized and went to prison for it. idk if i ever talked about this on this blog before-- i know i liveblogged a lot from that conference but cant remember what all i posted-- but ive avoided talking about it since then because i was never able to find like, news articles or anything covering it, but behold.... we now have proof it was real, and im like 80% sure this was this guy he was talking about. the raid happened in 2016 and they'd been staking them out since 2013. he had nearly 400 plants and had been sourcing many of them from poachers in indonesia and borneo.
remember folks: poaching happens with plants too! it's a huge problem not only in carnvirous plants (nepenthes especially, which this piece is dedicated to talking about) but also in native plant populations in the US, including native carnivorous plant populations (north and south carolina's venus fly traps, california's darlingtonia, and sarracenia from the east coast), native orchids (historically one of the most poached categories), desert plants/cacti/succulents, and slow-growing woody ornamentals (cycads, for example). never buy bare-root plants off ebay or facebook! your best bet is local nurseries (which usually purchase farm-raised plants that do well in a wide range of conditions, and as a result have a healthy population in the wild) or specialty greenhouses (more expensive, but at least in the case of carnivorous plants offer young plants bred from established adult plants in-house, raised in captivity).
