Panthera Tigris Tigris Nikos
Jaune: Hey, Pyrrha? Can I have a hug?
Pyrrha: Of course, Jaune! (Hugs)
Jaune: (Sinks into her)
Pyrrha: Would anyone else like-
Nora: (Dragging Ren) MEMEMEME~!
Fun Fact! Bengal tigers are big. Females have been documented to reach 400 pounds, males 500 pounds, and occasionally larger specimens reaching 700 pounds. Royal Bengal Tigers are reportedly even bigger, with one specimen shot by David Hasinger in 1967 was reported to be 857 pounds, measured at 11 feet long, and left paw prints "the size of dinner plates," and it's last meal was a live water buffalo weighed down by an eighty-pound weight. It is displayed in the Smithsonian Institutions's National Museum of Natural History, in the Hall of Mammals.
---------------------------------------------------
Pyrrha: Ready for our run, Jaune?
Jaune: You bet! Maybe this time I could-
Pyrrha: (Ear flicks) Oh, uh, why don't you keep warming up, Jaune? I need to grab something from the dorm.
Jaune: Oh, uh, sure thing, Pyrrha. I'll be right here.
Cardin: (Sitting on the roof) What the hell? Where's Nikos go- (Door swings open, Mauled)
Fun Fact! Bengal Tigers are fast. They can make short sprints of forty miles per hour, which is about the speed of a thoroughbred horse. An incident with a startled tigress mother with her cubs in Nepal in 1974 resulted in the death of a researcher who was hiding 15 feet in a tree. In 2007, on Christmas Day at the San Francisco Zoo, an Amur Tiger cleared a thirty-foot moat to maul three visitors who were harassing the tiger, killing one of them before being killed after four shots to the skull by responding police officer's .40-caliber-pistol rounds. It should be noted that the Amur was a captive tiger, raised from birth in the zoo. Imagine a wild tiger raised in the jungle.
---------------------------------------------------
Pyrrha: Are you okay, Jaune?
Jaune: Y-Yeah, I... Wait, what about the goliath?!
Pyrrha: It's okay, Jaune. I took care of it.
Jaune: But how, Pyrrha? (Holding) Your weapons-!
Pyrrha: (Takes, Smiles) I took care of it.
Jaune: (Looks behind her, Sees dead goliath)
Fun Fact! Bengal Tigers are strong. Their bite force can reach up to a thousand pounds, which is much stronger than a pitbull's and about a quarter of a great white shark. Their prey includes deer, buffalo, bison, bears, rhinos, and elephants. A single blow can break a bear's spine, and easily decapitate a human.
---------------------------------------------------
Jaune: Thanks again for letting us come visit, Mrs. Nikos.
Mama Nikos: Oh, Jaune, don't be so formal. We're practically family, so just call me Mama.
Jaune: Uh... No, I'll just stick with Mrs. Nikos, if you don't mind.
Mama Nikos: Oh, you are just so polite! I'm glad Pyrrha could have such a handsome team leader like you.
Pyrrha: (Blushing) M-Mom...
Nora: Can I have more meat buns, Mama?
Ren: Nora...
Nora: Oh, right! Khm! May I have more meat buns, Mama?
Mama Nikos: They're in the oven.
Jaune: So what do you do for a living, Mrs. Nikos?
Mama Nikos: I'm a personal fitness trainer. It's actually how I met Pyrrha's father. He said he could perform a perfect double twister kick, and I told him it was impossible unless he could twist and launch himself at a 167 degree rotation with a north-northwest gale blowing at 3.5 miles per hour behind him-
Mama Nikos: (Ding!) Oh! Meat buns are done!
Jaune: Huh...
Pyrrha: Don't worry. I didn't get it the first time, either.
Fun Fact! Bengal tigers are smart. Cubs are raised by their mothers for two and a half to three years. There are also notes of tigers imitating deer and bear calls. They will chase larger prey into water, tear at buffalo legs to bring them to the ground, and will flip porcupines from to their backs to avoid spines. There are also records of tigers killing 15-foot crocodiles, 20-foot pythons, 300-pound seals, and a 20-year-old elephant.
---------------------------------------------------
Jaune: Hm? Hey, Pyrrha? Who's this standing with your mom?
Pyrrha: Hm? Oh... That's... That's my mother. She... She's not around anymore.
Jaune: Do... Do you want to talk about it?
Pyrrha: I... I don't know where to begin. She was my hero, but she did something really bad, and she died when I was really young. And I...
Jaune: Hey. You don't have to tell me if you don't want to.
Pyrrha: (Leans on Jaune) I was probably six years old when it happened. She and I were on our way to watch a tournament together, but then this guy came from out of nowhere. He shot at us and broke her jaw. She carried me back home, and then... She left that night. I didn't learn about what happened to her until just after getting accepted into Beacon. She... She went on a rampage and then... Then she...
Jaune: (Holds her) Hey, hey. It's okay, Pyrrha. I'm... I'm sorry to hear that. I'm... I'm sure she was a great mom.
Pyrrha: (Sniffles) She was the best. And, on the bright side, because of her, there's a new standard for huntsman and huntresses to follow. And she's part of the reason why I became a huntress. So I could make sure everyone follows the standard. Follows the example she set. (Smiles) I think she would have liked you.
Jaune: (Looks at family photo) I think I would have like her, too.
Fun Fact! In the first ten years of the 20th century, until her death in 1907, the Champawat Tiger, also known as "the man-eater" killed and ate 436 humans in western Nepal. She evaded capture and continued to kill until she was shot by British hunter Jim Corbett, who speculated the tigress lost her teeth years ago from a gunshot, forcing her to change her prey to much easier humans. He then went on to be an advocate for wild tigers and spent the latter years of his life devoted to their conservation, even having a conservation park in Nepal dedicated to him.

For the writing ask game, 7. Any worldbuilding you’re particularly proud of? 8. What song would make a great fic (to either write or read)? 12. Are there any tropes you used to dislike but have grown on you?
Hey hey! Great choices there, friend.
Tumblr media
7. Any worldbuilding you're particularly proud of?
Oh, actually, quite a few! So I'll share a few. For When The Sunset Turns To Gold, And The Universe Decrees, The Red Spider, and most of all In Another Universe (Maybe We Were Happy.) (Can't forget my Ginny Time Travels AU, but that's more than four, so, sad sigh. ;) ) As to why; FWSTG - Narnia books/movies make me sad. Exercise in worldbuilding a universe where the Pevensies get to be happy. AUD - funky little alternate sorting AU where i don't just focus on Hogwarts but also get to dabble in writing the WW's adult population for death and politics having times. They are, uh. Having A Time Of It, for sure. RS - A total conversion au where Ron is spodermans. Very funky. going to be incredibly angsty >:). IAUMWWH - Literally like six whole-ass AUs in one fic. It's a 5 + 1 style of fic but the 5 + 1 took 44k words. What was i thinking. Each chapter is basically standalone, my favourites are all of them but in order in terms of worldbuilding, 3 would take no. 1. Total AU except not really ;). A twist on a coffeeshop AU because I can't help myself and always need to insert murder. Ah well. It worked out - people seemed to like that one :D. But yeah. All told, worldbuilding is my favourite thing like In General To Do When Writing, so that affects this answer quite a bit, I would say. I mean, there's loads more total aus and other things I've written really in depth that I really care about, but I didn't want to bog down this answer with my inability to make decisions.
8. What song would make a great fic to either write or read?
Ohhhhh man so okay so I recently used Kneel and Disconnect by Porcupine Tree to title a new fic of mine, and I was like, listening to The Incident again because it's such a fucking good album, and my guy, their songs are so much fodder, oh god. Could do so much with any Porcupine Tree song, fr. Time Flies, Trains, just... so much.
As for one specific song I think would make a good fic.... hm. I'll be honest I don't do much of that songfic stuff. But, having said that, I make AMVs, and those are a kind of fic, no? So. I've got a whole playlist of songs I'd use for AMVs, to tell a story.
Lol. Anything to get out of actually picking a song :D. I did use Broken Strings in a fic, once, though! So there's that!!
12. Are there any tropes you used to dislike but have grown on you?
Eeeeeeeehhhhhhhh I don't... think so? I think there's loads of the opposite, but I really can't think of one that I didn't like that i do like now. Hmm. Eh. Ah well!

i really appreciated y'all's recommendations, kimya dawson is one of those artists where everything they produce becomes a favorite of mine. you don't need to worry about doubles, it's a non-issue for us.
my recommendations for today are: stiff competition by cheap trick for billy, prove my love by the violent femmes for steve, blister in the sun also by the violent femmes for your jonathan, and anthem by pansy division for eddie (their song fem in a black leather jacket was a contender because it sounds like a song about eddie, but anthem sounds like the one he'd have more fun singing).
!!!! OKAY COOL COOL COOL GLAD TO KNOW /POSITIVE bc we. Love doubles all of us do LMAO
And!!!!!!!!! All those song are SO fucking good!! Violent Femmes is definitely growing on us as a hyperfixation band, we're gonna have to sit down one day soon n listen to their whole discography goddamn
Stiff Competition is def going on Billy's playlist it is SO catchy and fun tbh, and both pansy division songs are also great!! our Mains listen to em every now n then we should also listen to their entire discography huh. Perhaps someday,,, When our brain lets us just Listen To Music All Day </3 Dunno when that'll be though lmao
Anyways here's our recs for today too!!:
Dead Rats - Against Me! (Eddie's suggestion)! Against Me has so many good songs but this one's always our go-to when we wanna listen to their shit idk why. Just very catchy sound-wise!
Anxiety Song - Human Petting Zoo (my suggestion)! Short sweet n too the point, I prefer the version on their self titled EP but the version off their album UFO is also very good, the EP ver is just,, much more Raw which I like a lot
Drown With Me - Porcupine Tree (Steve's suggestion)! Now thiiis is where our memory gets fuzzy. We don't recall if we suggested this one already, not gonna lie. We'll check in a lil bit though! As for the song itself, Steve really relates to this song source-wise. He remembers the whole uhh. Pool Incident™ happening to him too. It's helped him cope with that, but it's also just a Very good song by a Very good band in general—it's been one of our go-to songs for when we need to ground ourselves bc we find it super calming!
We're In This Together - Nine Inch Nails (Billy's suggestion)! This one is kinda cheating I suppose since it's a system-wide favourite /lighthearted. Billy likes to listen to this a lot when Max is around front too, nowadays they've got a really close friendship and I'm happy for them tbh. He likes dedicating songs to everyone that he's close to in-sys (as we all do honestly lmao) and he dedicates this one to Max especially!
BONUS 5TH ONE BECAUSE YOU MENTIONED 5 SONGS LMAO: This Song Is A Curse - Frank Iero!! Very silly but fun and has catchy guitars and lyrics, I adore this song it's just. Very fun!! i would 1000% put this on my Spotify playlist if it was fucking oN Spotify but alas! It isn't! </3 And despite it being written specifically for A Disney Movie Of All Goddamn Things, it's still. Relatable in a way to me! tl;dr: good song, Frank Put It On Spotify Immediately I Am Begging You,
-Jonathan

THE HOLE IN THE VAULT There are few local places with more folklore attached than the deep, dark space known as "The Hole in The Vault". I'd looked for this place for years, off and on, picking along the slippery slopes between Vault and Dodge roads. Now and then, someone would offer vague directions to the general area, rarely more helpful than pinpointing a general area – information which I already knew. Most who talked about it hadn't even been there themselves. After coming up empty again earlier this week, I decided to give it one last shot before heavy rains made mud and rocks too slippery to scale. This time, I followed a set of more-accurate topographic maps made with Lidar, and pushed through brush to the sharpest outcropping I could find. High up the hills and deep in the woods between Melvern Square and Forest Glade, I finally reached a series of jagged fissures along the North Mountain ridgeline. Several narrow slits dropped down into the rock, but only one – this still-snowy entryway – continued to a cave. In a somewhat unnerving scenario, it drifts on a shallow diagonal before abruptly plummeting straight down like a well. One step further back from where I'm standing is a good twenty foot drop, and that's just the start of your fall, so they say. It's believed by some that these depths connect to water from the Bay of Fundy, though that's somewhat unlikely, with the shore being nearly five kilometres away. The Hole was first written about in 1892, for a magazine called "The Youth's Companion". The composer of the piece was Charles Roberts, a well-known poet, who may have exaggerated it to some degree. In any case, everything was related secondhand. It contains the tale he was told of three boys who decided to discover just how deep and far this cave could go. After entering into the outer gallery, one of them was strapped to a rope and lowered down into a shaft that seemed to have no bottom. A collapse of the walls shattered his headlamp and trapped him for a while, and he nearly didn't make it up. After this incident, local farmers plugged the entrance with trees to prevent further entry. But, of course, those have long since rotted away. Now I'm no cave diver, and as such, have no particular interest in dropping out of sight. It's enough sometimes just to stand on the lip of history, and peer off into an uneasy past. There will always be someone saying: "Let's go further, let's seek secrets, let's see what the shadows are keeping from us." Today, at least, I know that the porcupines are an active part of that. Their droppings are scattered in their thousands, stinking all about like mud, their babies chirping discontentedly at my disturbance. Hundreds of feet on this high vantage, the view across The Vault is breathtaking. It's stark and leafless, mostly muted of the outside world. You couldn't feel more alone for trying. My legs were burning by the time I came back to my car by the quarry gate – and I felt content for finally finding one more secret that the wild was keeping. Thursday, May 18, 2023 5pm ET: Feature LP: Porcupine Tree - Closure / Continuation (2022)
Closure/Continuation is the eleventh studio album by British progressive rock band Porcupine Tree. It is their first since 2009’s The Incident. Despite public uncertainty of the band’s future after frontman Steven Wilson’s focus on a solo career in 2010, the album was recorded intermittently in complete secrecy among Wilson, Gavin Harrison, and Richard Barbieri across the course of the following…

The Moment PORCUPINE TREE's Keyboardist Knew The Band Was Dead
The Moment PORCUPINE TREE’s Keyboardist Knew The Band Was Dead
When Porcupine Tree announced they’d be reforming in 2022 and releasing the very much-acclaimed LP Closure/Continuation, prog metal fans did backflips in rejoice. Around 2010, guitarist/vocalist Steven Wilson turned his focus to his solo career, mostly as a response to the negative environment within Porcupine Tree circa 2009, as 14 months of touring for their album The Incident splintered the…

Porcupine Tree - Closure/Continuation (2022)
Cannot. Erase, The Raven that Refused to Sing o Grace for Drowning.
Tumblr media

Porcupine Tree - Closure/Continuation

Steven Wilson on Porcupine Tree's Unexpected, Slow-Simmering Reunion
Steven Wilson on Porcupine Tree’s Unexpected, Slow-Simmering Reunion
By late 2021, the odds of a Porcupine Tree reunion seemed beyond slim. It had been 12 years since the alt-prog band’s 10th LP (and apparent swan song), 2009’s The Incident, and singer-songwriter Steven Wilson realized his rabid audience wasn’t counting on a follow-up. “Fans had probably given up on [us] ever making another record,” he tells SPIN, his polite eloquence downplaying a hilariously…

Last 12 months’s announcement of Closure/Continuation was definitely shocking and thrilling, but it surely was additionally type of inevitable. After all, prog/artwork rock quartet Porcupine Tree (arguably probably the most beloved cult band in trendy music) went on hiatus shortly after they launched 2009’s The Incident. Founding vocalist/guitarist Steven Wilson launched into an more and more profitable solo profession whereas his bandmates—drummer Gavin Harrison, bassist Colin Edwin, and keyboardist Richard Barbieri—centered on profitable new ventures and pursuits. All the whereas, followers had been hoping and speculating that Porcupine Tree would return when the time was proper.Advertisement. Scroll to proceed studying.Clearly, there’s no time like the current. Back in March, Wilson instructed The Guardian that 2022 symbolizes the opportune second to come back again not as a result of they had been supplied thousands and thousands to do new concert events or as a result of their different endeavors “failed.” Rather, they merely “thought it’d be fun” as a result of they “had some good material” to place out and play reside. Therefore—and as mirrored within the album’s title—Closure/Continuation is supposed to suitably revive the challenge for at the very least one other spherical and satisfactorily retire it ought to it signify “the last record [they’ll] make and . . . the last tour [they’ll] do.”Porcupine Tree (Photo by Alex Lake)That mentioned, Porcupine Tree’s resurrection is a bit bittersweet and perplexing as a result of Edwin isn’t concerned. (Wilson performs bass all through the gathering.) Earlier this month, Wilson spoke to Super Deluxe Edition concerning the controversial and complicated determination, claiming that “lots of little things” led to that end result. For occasion, he and Harrison began jamming what would turn into “Harridan” with Wilson taking part in bass as a result of Harrison didn’t have any guitars at his dwelling. Eventually, that they had a couple of songs labored out that means, so Wilson simply grew to become the default bassist.Plus, the trio stayed involved over the past decade, whereas none of them had “heard from Colin for years on end. . . . So he wasn’t proactively pushing to be involved in anything new,” Wilson reveals. Lastly, he provides, “the creative core of the band has always been the three of us,” and since Porcupine Tree started as Wilson’s DIY solo effort, he was used to taking part in bass anyway. (It wasn’t till the mid-90s, with The Sky Moves Sideways and Signify, that he introduced in outdoors members.)While Edwin’s absence is unquestionably felt, the remaining threesome go above and past to make Closure/Continuation an especially deserving and gratifying new inclusion to Porcupine Tree’s illustrious catalog. Admittedly, it’s forgivably acquainted and nonessential (it’d be unfair to count on a landmark masterpiece at this level), but it surely’s nonetheless a superb creation that’s effectively well worth the wait. [embed]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AW5v4Ohxk5k[/embed]If direct comparisons have to be made, the LP evokes Deadwing, The Incident, and Wilson’s third solo outing—2013’s The Raven That Refused to Sing (And Other Stories)—most. The similar sonic lacquers and methods are current, as “Harridan” proves. Right away, the trio’s treasured chemistry is completely intact, with Wilson’s aggressive bass traces complementing Harrison’s attribute syncopation and Barbieri’s trippy varnishes over the course of a number of changeups. Even Wilson’s numerous vocal elements recall these previous triumphs melodically and texturally, along with his trademark subjugated harmonies, forceful declarations, and distorted/reverberated results in full power. Thus, “Harridan” is each a killer opening monitor and an entire declaration of goal and potential.Advertisement. Scroll to proceed studying.By and huge, the remainder of the file both packs the identical type of quirky hostilities (“Rats Return,” “Herd Culling,” “Walk the Plank”) or ventures into softer territories. Specifically, “Of the New Day” is—according to the band—“a song of rebirth, emerging from darkness” that very a lot faucets into Wilson’s conventional strategy to acoustic ballads (with touches of psychedelic heaviness because it goes). That’s purely an statement, not a criticism, and the identical goes for the truth that “Dignity” can’t assist however really feel like a sibling to “Remember Me Lover” or a misplaced Blackfield ode. Built upon chilling guitar arpeggios (very similar to "The Watchmaker" from The Raven), it ebbs and flows brilliantly round heartrending songwriting ("I'm afraid to be happy and I / Couldn't care less if I was to die") and mesmerizingly unpredictable preparations. It's mainly every little thing you possibly can need in a brand new Porcupine Tree composition, making it not solely the best piece right here however probably the greatest compositions they've ever carried out.Naturally, all three bonus tracks are distinctive, too. "Population Three" sees the trio tapping into their cherished knack for concurrently emotional and erratic instrumentals; then, "Never Have" captures the economical pop/rock catchiness and depth of Wilson's most instantly fetching numbers. As for "Love in the Past Tense," it is gorgeously ethereal, tragic, and complicated. Like lots of the group's prior supplemental collections—particularly, Recordings and the second disc of The Incident—the fabric right here is as outstanding and important as the principle entries.Closure/Continuation is an impressive and endearing comeback from a band that many people—me included—actually grew up with. Its existence is as fulfilling as it's surreal, and whereas it would not actually deliver something new to the desk (so, once more, expectations must be fairly tempered), what it does accomplish and induce is sort of exemplary.Advertisement. It's beautiful for what it's and for what it represents, but it surely would not break new floor or rival Sgt. Pepper or Revolver. Likewise, Closure/Continuation is finest regarded as a beautiful manufacturing unit of nostalgia that may delight all who've been eagerly awaiting it.
