A ‘short tail’ evolution of the original Porsche 917 racing car, the Porsche 917K took to race tracks in 1970 to much success. This particular car, chassis 917-030, was built in 1971 and raced by Martini Racing Team during that year. It was then recommissioned from Porsche by the late Count Gregorio Rossi di Montelera, heir to the Martini & Rossi distilling fortune, where is was modified and converted for street use, and is now owned by Count Rossi's son Manfredo. A truly special and historic vehicle which was seen driving around the Goodwood circuit at last years Festival of Speed! - Dominating at Le Mans in both 1970 and 1971, the 917K featured a 5.0-litre flat-12 engine that produced a maximum of 630bhp. Unlike the original 917, which had been noted by the drivers to be a handful at high speeds, the 917K (Kurzheck or ‘short tail’) featured a less upswept tail and vertical fins to assist with aerodynamic performance and high speed stability. Today's sketch a day submission, and the final sketch for the 2019 sketch a day challenge: the Porsche 917K. An absolute titan in the automotive world and one of the most famous, most feared, and most admired Porsches ever created, it is a great way to end the collection of Porsche sketches, and an amazing end to an entire year of car sketches.

I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has been following along during this journey. Whether you've been following from the first day or you've discovered my blog a few days ago, I genuinely appreciate all your likes, comments, and messages throughout the year. This has been a lot of work, but it's also been a lot of fun; I'd like to think my skills have improved throughout the year.

I've got a few things planned for the new year so stayed tuned, but in the meantime thanks again for following along, and of course all the very best to you and yours for 2020.
