In 1990 Ellsworth Kelly made a floor piece, Yellow Curve-Portikus to fit a gallery in Frankfurt. In 2015, Glenstone made a gallery to fit the same sized Kelly Yellow Curve. They installed it again this year to mark the 100th anniversary of the artist's birth. And now they released a little youtube video about making it. It's very nice.

Interestingly, last year, when Matthew Marks remade Red Floor Panel, another piece made for a German gallery floor, it was considered the same 1992 work, refabricated.

Athener Kaffee-Tagebuch: Heliaia Helliniki Kouzina
Also ging…

Shireen Seno: A child dies, a child plays, a woman is born, a woman dies, a bird arrives, a bird flies off Solo exhibition at daadgalerie, Berlin April 5-May 7, 2023
Opening: Wednesday, April 5, 7pm Artist Talk with Shireen Seno and George Clark
Thursday, April 13, 7pm  Screening: Big Boy (2012) by Shireen Seno
Thursday, April 20, 7pm Screening: Years When I Was a Child Outside (2008) by John Torres Artist Talk with John Torres
Filmmaker and artist Shireen Seno’s work explores relationships in all their complexity and intricacies: within the family, to political relationships, to media and technology, between different species and ecosystems. Through a politics of attention and remarkable sensitivity, Seno creates a space for repressed narratives, often set against the backdrop of Philippine colonial history and diaspora life. In doing so, her practice takes her to archives as well as to Candaba, a wetland near Manila where migratory birds settle halfway along the East Asian–Australasian Flyway. She encounters the world with a keen awareness of the malleability of images and a deep distrust of overly linear narratives.  Shireen Seno’s first solo exhibition in Europe brings together works from the last four years: the 17-channel video installation A child dies, a child plays…, the film essay To Pick a Flower, new photographs and a sequel to her image essay Trunks.
Shireen Seno’s body of work touches on an array of interconnected activity from feature films to multi- screen installations, passing through collective practice, site-specific installations, photographic enquiries, and curatorial excavations. Her work addresses memory, history, and image-making, often in relation to the idea of home.
A recipient of the 2018 Thirteen Artists Award from the Cultural Center of the Philippines, she is known for her films Big Boy (2012) and Nervous Translation (2017) which have won awards at Rotterdam, Punto de Vista, Shanghai, Olhar de Cinema, Vladivostok, and Lima Independiente and have screened at New Directors/New Films at Film Society of Lincoln Center and MoMA, New York; Yebisu International Festival of Art & Alternative Visions, Tokyo; Rencontres Internationales, Paris/Berlin; Tate Modern, London; UCCA Center for Contemporary Art, Beijing; NTU Center for Contemporary Art, Singapore; Portikus, Frankfurt; Taipei National Center for Photography and Images, Taipei, Museum of the Moving Image, New York; National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMCA), Seoul; Museum of Contemporary Art & Design Manila; MAIIAM Contemporary Art Museum, Chiang Mai; and M+, Hong Kong, among others.
Together with artist and filmmaker John Torres, Shireen Seno runs Los Otros, a critically acclaimed film and video studio and platform committed to the intersections of film and art, with a focus on process over product. In 2019, Seno and Torres realised the exhibition Cloudy with a Chance of Coconuts at Portikus, Frankfurt am Main.  Shireen Seno is currently a film fellow of the DAAD Artists-in-Berlin program.

Lecture notes: Stuart Bailey and the Installation (28.3.23)
Any artistic medium can:
Include the 2D (drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, etc.), 3D (sculpture, etc.) and 4D (film, photography, etc.).
Carry histories that may overlap with each other (scientific, political, historical, social, aesthetic, etc.).
Be transformed to occupy space and reject/question established ‘conventions’ within these mediums.
The spatial transformations of these mediums can be cross-disciplinary, and demonstrate various layers of meaning.
The term to describe these are installations.
For example, Nora Schultz approaches printmaking through a sculptural practice that shifts the focus from refinement and precision (often an expectation in printmaking) to showcasing the process in a performative way.
“Nora Schultz’s work examines the genesis of pictorial representation and production as an artistic dynamic. Her works explore questions around the emergence of pictures, and production as an artistic dynamic. She is less interested in the finished work than in how images and objects come into being and in the physical traces that process leaves behind. The actualities of production accordingly play a central role in her prints, printing machines, installations, and performances; process always remains legible.” - from the Portikus Press Release of her 2012 exhibition
Participatory elements, alongside occupation of space, can foster a deeper engagement between the artwork, the artist and the audience.
In an installation, conventions about artistic medium/s can be dismantled to not only comment on its history and materiality, but can also address other themes.
“An encounter with her work appears designed to make the brain halt and fail in its first attempts to process a logical account. Its wilful obscurity acts like a protest against the so-called “fast time” of the information age. Literally dragging cognitive activity into step with its own primitive tempo, it invites us to search its contours for details of an object’s manufacture and use.” - Michelle Cotton
For example, Ciara Phillips facilitates the audience’s expression through printmaking and other two-dimensional mediums to voice political and aesthetic concerns.

Four Seasons 1 (CCA Berlin) Benjamin Saurer, Frankie, and Kelman Duran
29 April 2022
12 Apostel Kirche An der Apostelkirche 1 10783 Berlin
Benjamin Saurer is a Berlin-based trained organist and visual artist. He practiced church music from 1997 to 2003 and received his MFA from Städelschule, Academy of Fine Arts Frankfurt am Main in 2008. In parallel to his painting practice, he writes music to accompany exhibitions of artist colleagues and regularly performs as an organist in similar frameworks. Most recently Saurer has composed and performed at Stadtgalerie Bern, Internationale Ferienkurse für Neue Musik Darmstadt, Kunsthalle Wien, Kunsthalle Basel, Portikus, and Kunstverein Oldenburg. At the Twelve Apostles Church, Saurer will play an excerpt of Die Fregatte/The frigate, a work by Thys/de Gruyter, 2008; The Elect, an ambient soundtrack for Yannic Joray’s exhibition of the same name at Stadtgalerie Bern, 2021; and Ich bin eine rufende Stimme [I am a Calling Voice], 2022, composition for organ.
Frankie is the solo music project of Franziska Aigner, consisting of a solo cello and vocal set combined with a hyper-emotional lyricism. Mostly working in choreography and performance, the past few years have continuously brought more and more music to her life. Aigner performed in and co-wrote the music to FAUST by Anne Imhof for the 2017 Venice Biennale, and joined the Holly Herndon vocal ensemble in 2019. She continues to work and perform with artists such as Anne Imhof, William Forsythe, and Austin Jack Lynch, and recently completed her PhD in philosophy. Frankie will perform songs from her newly-released EP, Styx, which can be purchased here.
Kelman Duran is a musician and artist born in La Ermita, in the countryside of the Dominican Republic, and raised in New York City. Prior to making music, he produced videos at the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. Through his music, Duran explores the legacy of the black rebellion during Haitian Revolution and today’s unbalanced racial climate, reinterpreting and propelling the parameters of Afro- rhythms like reggaeton and dancehall. His latest LP, Night In Tijuana, was released in 2021 on the label Scorpio Red, which he co-founded with artist Annie Mackinnon. Duran will close the evening with an ambient mix conceived for the occasion.
Co-conceived with Edwin Nasr.
