When your dissociation makes you so separate from your experiences you cannot understand relations to others.

MEANING:

Green Stripe - to represent aromanticism and the impact on romantic attraction Grey Stripe - the haze of dissociation (the impact to make it more difficult to experience things fully) Blue Stripe - to represent aplatonicism and the impact on platonic attraction Grey Stripe - the haze of dissociation (the impact on self awareness and identity) Purple Stripe - to represent asexuality and the impact on sexual attraction Grey Stripe - the haze of dissociation (the impact on your awareness of differences of your attraction, relations, or things around you)

hey, feel free to ignore this if it's not the kind of thing you do, but I was wondering if you have any advice for me? I've been looking through DID content and using simply plural a lot recentley because it seems comforting and It helps me organize things, but as far as I know im a singlet and fully concious of everything I do. I've kind of been thinking of it as me being a little further along the plurality spectrum than most people, but not to the point of any dissociation diagnosis other than dpdr. What it feels like in our head is almost like I was several parts at one point, but now I'm just one, more or less?? As in I can function completley fine as one person but there are some things that feel amost like remnants of plurality, like the fact that different parts of me have different roles when we talk to each other, or that I sometimes write or talk a little differently when certain topics come out, or that I act a little different in body language/how sensitive I am to misgendering/the way I talk based on the task we have to do. Using terms like "we" and regulating tasks come naturally to us, and feel right, but we still feel like just one guy at the end of the day. I don't know, I've just been feeling like I don't really have a right to be using all these resources or "pretending" when I can easily just forget the whole thing and go back to being one person whos a little confused when he does wierd things. Sorry if this is invalidating in any way! I am on no scale the same kind of patchwork of concious that plural systems are.

I wouldn’t say you’re being invalidating to anyone at all. Your journey is personal and intrinsic to you. It doesn’t say anything about anyone else’s plurality. Furthermore, plurality is a spectrum and for some, it does fluctuate between sometimes being singlet and being plural. In whatever way they define that for themselves is completely valid. And, honestly, at the end of the day - if these resources help you in anyway, no matter what it is, then that’s more than okay! It’s not the people genuinely using the resources that harm the community, it’s those using it to make a joke of other people.

That all being said, I hope everything becomes clear to you in time. You’re in a very unique position where, if it turns out you’re not plural at all, you could be a good ally to the community.

problems knowing who you are?

being blurry or having confusion about your identity is something so many of us plurals are dealing with. a thing that help us is opening up our private discord server, going to a channel dedicated to figuring out who's fronting or to help with a switch and just shift between texting with our different pluralkit profiles until it "clicks" and we realise who we are. another help is our other, personal channels where we post things that we each identify with. I believe only two of us have this type of channel, but ours are filled with pictures of our faces. if we look at a picture and we get that feeling that "yup that's me" then we know. if we look at a picture and then we dont feel a connection or not a strong connection, we know that this isn't the one at the front or close to the front

this is one of our tips that tend to work! can also help with switches if you look at your positive triggers. if we want a switch to be over with since it's too long for us, then we try to "speed it up" by positively triggering the switch with pictures from our discord server, since pictures seem to do the trick for some of us. for others, there are physical objects we can use. it could be so many different things for each system and headmate, but yeah we just wanted to mention our discord/pluralkit/positive visual trigger trick!

No, we did not. All of the terms we’ve made from scratch, based on other terms, or synonyms we’ve made for terms are all listed on our site. This includes all of our non-system terms, such as kin and mogai terms, as well. The most we ever did with Pluralpunk was help the coiner word the definition and reblogged the coining post(s) a few times. Unfortunately, we’re not sure if the coiner is still around on Tumblr and, if they are, we don’t know what they’re current username is. one of the most important things about dissociative identity disorder and generally being a system that i wish people would understand is that it truly isn’t as cut and dry as it may seem for member count.

you’ll see people who say they have “six alters” and then immediately assume it’s six fully fleshed out equal individuals with no confusion or fuzziness regarding identity. that’s simply not true in a majority of cases, as i have seen.

most systems still VERY much deal with confusion regarding potential splits, go through dissociative episodes where they’re unsure of who they are, sometimes feel no attachment towards any identities, feel like they might have split and then suddenly that person is gone, unsure if alters they haven’t heard from often have gone dormant, not sure how to react when alters do come out of dormancy, etc.

it’s not a fun feeling and it’s genuinely unfair in certain situations to force systems to list every single alter to you with full certainty, as if it will never change. because it will. for so many different reasons, systems will grow, they will shrink, they will fuse, they will develop. you can’t expect the person with the dissociative disorder and lack of core identity to be able to keep up a perfected list of forever, it’s simply impossible. you may have alters who stick with you, but that doesn’t mean changes won’t happen.

and systems who may be reading this — please don’t feel bad. you are not a hassle, you are not a headache, and you are not an inconvenience for simply coping with something like this. it’s out of your control and the only thing you can do is continue to cope to find ways to help yourself retrain from these reactions. please don’t allow yourself to be harmed by others who don’t understand what you are going through. there are people who will accept and love you for who you are, all of you.
