Summary: For over a year, Steve's been looking for Bucky and now he's finally located him. Unfortunately, he's not the only one after Bucky. Steve just has to get to him first. And hope that Bucky wants Steve to find him.

Steve walks warily down the street with his brim pulled way down low. A baseball hat, sunglasses, and a leather jacket are his only disguise. At 5 in the morning, the streets of Bucharest are still quiet. Ain't no sound but the sound of his feet.

Steve stays close to the buildings, walking slowly, moving methodically so he won’t be caught. Sneaking into an alley across from his desired destination, he glances up at the rooftops. He knows what he’s looking for, spotting it easily. Surrounding the same building he’s about to enter are machine guns, ready to go.

He’s not the only one on this search. But he has to be the one to find the target.

There’s static over his earpiece before he hears Sam calling out to him. “Are you ready?”

Steve doesn’t respond right away, too focused on his mission. He’s looking between the guns on the rooftops and the building across the street, figuring out his plan of attack. He has to get to the apartment before the guns start firing. He can’t think about what will happen if he doesn’t get there first.

“Hey! Are you ready for this?” Sam asks again. Steve can detect the hint of impatience in Sam’s voice.

“Are you hanging on the edge of your seat?” Steve replies, sarcastically. He can’t actually see him, but he knows Sam well enough to know that he’s rolling his eyes right now.

Knowing what he has to do, Steve takes a deep breath, then makes his move. Swiftly, he dashes across the street. He pulls a knife out of his pocket and uses it with precision to open the door, sliding in and closing it behind him, careful not to make a sound. Quietly, he climbs up six flights of stairs, to the top floor. There’s a sharp intake of breath when he sees the door is ajar.

Steve reaches behind him, pulling his gun out of his holster. It’s just a precaution; he’s only going to use it as a last resort. Clinging to the wall, he sneaks down the hall, down to the apartment, holding the gun out in front of him. At the door, he takes a moment to collect himself, to take a deep breath, before he swings the door open, entering the apartment.

Standing in front of him, waiting for him, is the man he’s been looking for, for over a year. The man he’d thought he’d lost all those years ago in the Alps. The man who reappeared, unexpectedly, just over a year ago. His best friend. The love of his life. Bucky Barnes.

Bucky’s staring at Steve, his eyebrows narrowed, a scowl on his face.

“Do you know me?” Steve eventually asks, tucking the gun away, knowing he’s not going to need to use it.

“You’re Steve. I read about you in a museum,” Bucky responds, holding the same intense gaze as he continues to stare at Steve.

There’s something in Bucky’s voice that tells Steve that’s not the whole story. He might have been tortured and brainwashed for the last 70 years, but Steve knows deep down, he’s still the same Bucky he loves. He can tell that Bucky’s words aren’t the whole truth. But he chooses not to push him for more. He has to let Bucky take the lead, to make the first moves. In doing so, he can show Bucky that he can be trusted.

Before Steve or Bucky can say anything else, Sam’s speaking in his earpiece again. “They’re moving in closer.”

Steve tries to appeal to Bucky. He takes a hesitant step forward, but Bucky takes a step back. Alright, so he doesn’t trust Steve yet. Steve can handle that. He takes a step back, signaling to Bucky that he’s reading his signs, that he respects his needs. “I know you’re nervous. And you have plenty of reason to be.”

“Steve…” Sam cautions.

Screw taking the time to build trust. They don’t have time for this. “But you’re lying.”

Bucky shrugs.

“They’re entering the building,” Sam informs Steve.

Steve has to get Bucky moving, has to get him out of there. “There’s other people looking for you and they’re coming here now. And they don’t plan on taking you alive.”

“That’s smart. Good strategy.”

That was how, despite Peggy’s reservations, Natasha managed to convince her to come to the inconspicuous, obscure bar where she now sat in a booth, talking to Agent Van Dyne about quantum physics and her parents’ work for well over an hour. Not only did Peggy find the subject itself interesting, but Hope’s knowledge and passion for it was captivating.

(Though apparently not to their companions, as Romanoff and Hill had long since taken a post at one of the bar’s pool tables while Sharon and Captain Danvers were more interested in singing to each other at karaoke.)

“Sorry, about all these questions,” Peggy said. “It’s probably not very good bar talk.”

“I wouldn’t know, to be honest.” Hope smiled ruefully. It didn't surprise Peggy to hear that, she seemed the type to be married to her work, just like the captain herself had been since accidentally landing in the future. “That might be why Romanoff tried to set me up with Bernard from accounting.”

Peggy laughed. “You, too?”

With a nod and good-natured eye roll, the agent continued. “He was a decent guy, but not really my type of… person.”

Peggy couldn’t help but notice that particular word choice as well as the gleam in Hope’s green eyes that made heat creep up her neck.

Well, then. Maybe the Widow was onto something.

“So who is your type?”

My #1 post of 2022

Before Multiverse of Madness does whatever it’s gonna do to Wanda’s character arc, I wanted to say that one of the things that’s really stuck with me from WandaVision is the fact that the people of Westview had her nightmares and felt her grief and within a few days (maybe a week), they would chose death instead. That is how all-consuming and deep her pain runs and whatever her flaws, whatever happens next, it just breaks my heart.

My Comments: I’ve been reading a lot of Avocado Love’s work lately, and ended up finding this little gem. This is a pretty good read and I like the twist they put on Howard. I would highly recommend it!!!

My Comments: God, do I love this fic!! This fic is basically Steve falling instead of Bucky, which I know there are a lot of, but I think that Avocado Love pulled it off the best. Mainly because it doesn’t just follow the movies, it sort of deviates a bit from them. The only movie it kind of follows is the first Avengers movie, then it sort of takes off on it’s own, which I found I really liked. This fic did end on a bit of a cliff hanger, which Avocado Love does a lot. I wish there was a sequel to it, but I doubt we’ll be getting one. Summary: The Winter Soldier’s mission is nearly complete. Howard and Maria Stark are dead, leaving him to dispatch their four-year-old child. My Comments: This was the first Bucky-Raises-Tony fic I read. This is an AU that I would have never thought of, and didn’t realize how much I needed it! I highly recommend this fic, it is just amazing. I love Bucky and Tony’s relationship, and the ending is just awesome. Highly recommend this fic! This fic is cross-posted on ff.net as well. And has also been translated into Russian, Korean, and Chinese. There’s also a podfic for it, and some fanart. Not to mention the fan made sequel. I will link it all down below.

My Comments: This is an AU of All the Leaves are Brown, written by the same author. I have to say I love this fic, and the relationship between Steve and Bucky is awesome. Not to mention Tony’s relationship with them is just adorable. I do believe it’s abandoned because it was last updated in 2016, which is a shame because it did leave off at a cliffhanger. But I would still recommend reading this, because it will leave you aching for more.

Something’s off about Tony that Steve can’t put his finger on, and it’s obvious Tony doesn’t fully trust him either. But to escape they may not have a choice.

My Comments: This is a pretty amazing fic. The basic idea is what if Steve was recovered by Obadiah Stane instead of Shield. I love how Tony and Steve bond through what they are going through. I love the premise of this fic, and desperately wish there was a sequel, although I do think it left off at a good stopping point. I highly recommend this fic!!

My Comments: This is a really good AU. I love the idea of Iron Man being Tony’s secret identity, and being wanted by the government and being hunted by Shield (and Steve). I really love this AU and would like to see more fics like this.
