Tony has always only trusted himself.

Sure, people are great sometimes, and he tries to trust them. he really does. but when he’s really in danger, he always calls out to his own creations for help. He only trusts the things he’s built.

Because Tony Stark has been stabbed in the back enough times to never let anything he didn’t make himself have his back

But when he starts noticing odd gaps in his memory, and starts noticing patterns that don’t match up, he starts wondering if he can even trust himself.

Sure, Tony Stark is a hero and entertaining and I enjoy him well enough, but his motivations more often than not boil down to being self centered and selfish (and the movies don't highlight that nearly enough, which naturally makes me care more than I actually do)

It’s peters fault Mister Stark died.

Yes, tony was the one who walked into the battle. Tony was the one who put on the gauntlet, who snapped his fingers and stopped his heart. Tony was the one who decided to make his sacrifice, in the end.

But Peter knows that if he had just listened to Mister Stark, if he had gotten off the spaceship when Mister Stark told him to so long ago, Mister Stark never would have died.

Aunt May has talked to Peter about it, told the kid that nobody would ever blame him. Pepper showed Peter Tony’s journal, his thought process going into the battle. Happy, at Peters request, walked Peter through exactly what had happened while Peter was dead. Even Morgan told Peter that her daddy wasn’t mad at Peter. Peter wishes they would save their breath. Peter dosnt deserve their kindness or forgiveness.

Peter knows it’s his fault that Mister Stark died, nobody can convince him otherwise, and he’s going to stay locked in the workshop until he comes up with a way to get Tony back (or a way to stop feeling like he deserves Tony’s fate)

Rewatching Captain America: Civil War, followed by Avengers: Endgame and going absolutely feral over this detail:  When Tony and Cap finally meet at the compound and speak alone, Tony opens the trunk of his car to reveal Cap’s shield. As he hands it to him, we see that the scratches that had been caused during their fight in Siberia are gone. The shield is in pristine condition.  Civil War took place sometime in 2016 while Endgame is set in 2023. Tony held onto Steve’s shield for 7 years. No doubt tucked away in some corner of the garage, avoiding the grim reminder of their last meeting because he can’t stomach the thought. Until one night, when he goes to grab one of his long forgotten tools and spots a familiar red and blue shield, staring back at him until he’s finally had enough.  He sets it on the table, hands gently running over the marks that look deeper than they feel. The cold metal feels simultaneously soothing and abrasive against his fingertips and for a split second, panic washes over Tony, a phantom ache pulsing in his chest.  Regardless of the whirlwind of emotions Tony feels, he fixes it. He takes a few days, carefully filling the scratches and scuffs, perfectly matching the paint down to the last drop. He takes his time fixing it, not because he wants to care, but because he misses Steve. This is the last piece of him that he has and he takes care of it. He takes care of it and he saves it, because he loves it.  And when Steve thanks him for the shield, it feels as though it’s more. As if he wants to say: Thank you, for forgiving me.  At the risk of sounding gratuitous, I see this is a very poetic metaphor for both sides of their relationship. Steve’s shield can represent many, many things, but I think it represents his strength- both inside and out -which to many makes him nearly indestructible (exactly like vibranium) only to reveal that it can be flawed and with enough pressure.. it breaks.  Tony is also one of the only things that can ‘break’ Cap. He’s the only person important enough to leave a mark, proving that he’s just as human as everyone else.  On Tony’s side of this metaphor, I like to think the dropping of his shield is akin to Steve’s abandonment of Tony in order to save Bucky. The entire collapse of their previous relationship after Civil War is so incredibly layered yet it can come down to two still images. A shield, bloodied and scarred, abandoned on the floor of a desolate Siberian bunker to rot.  Followed by a shield, polished and brought to perfection, mended to reflect the healing scars both men left each other after their last encounter. No matter how much Tony hurts Steve, or how often Steve runs away, they always come back to each other.

Steve has reoccurring lucid dreams where he’s the kind and attentive house husband that has dinner ready and a kiss in the cheek for his hard working hubby Tony when he gets home. And then after dessert he slings Tony up onto his shoulder and take him to bed to fuck him so hard he can’t feel his toes, lots of biting and man handling and grunts, real animalistic sex beast things. Then Steve gets up early to have coffee, breakfast, and a packed lunch ready for Tony the next day

Of course if this is a shared dream, instead of the usual DreamTony knowing the routine, RealTony is like, are u wearing pearls and an apron Steve? What? Steve muscles thru anyway with his dream muscles and the dream logic that he just needs to wrangle Tony properly and it will go as it usually does
