im a little disappointed they're meeting tbh i wouldve liked it if we couldve read about it the books

I totally understand. The anticipation would've be much much higher and that first meeting would've been much sweeter.

BUT we still don't know the context of what's happening here. Things might get worse and shit might get angstier. Something might happen that makes their breakup easier to bear, only by a fraction, enough for Ty to reach out to Kit years later. Or there might be zero growth in either direction. They might not even have met for all we know - it could be someone's imagination, it could be hypothetical.

Besides, from the previous sobh entries... it makes sense for them to meet. After all that angst from Kit's letter, Kit needs Ty. He needs Ty's objective perspective, he needs Ty's support, and even if I wish they wouldn’t meet until twp, it makes sense. Even if it's just for a fleeting moment, Kit needs Ty.

Anyways, yeah, I'm holding out further judgement until we see next week's entry.

so @erch0maii said in a post that i didn’t want to hijack that the reason that both screen adaptations of tmi didn’t feel quite right is because they were these dark gritty adaptations while the books are, at heart, campy and silly and comical. and i was thinking about this and how it relates to the other series in the tsc canon. when i first read tsc i thought that the reason they felt tmi felt different from tid, tda, and tlh is because they were her first books but it really all comes down to the character’s sense of humor and genre awareness. because all the other tsc series (and i’m betting twp too) take themselves so seriously, but timi doesn’t do that. 

with genre awareness, the characters are put in this dark edgy fantasy war series but they act like their in a satire or a comedy. my favorite parts of qoaad were when jace and clary were in these dangerous situations and were acting so nonchalant about it. and it wasn’t even like a fake confidence or something, they genuinely just are Like That. like at the war council they walked in casually with normal clothes and people didn’t even notice them until lily called them out. like, they could have changed, they could have made a big entrance, but no, why bother. and later in brocelind when manuel rips out the tent and they’re playing tic tac toe. they don’t acknowledge him at all, not even to make a joke about him ruining the tents they borrowed. they just sit there playing tic tac toe. and again on the imperishable fields, jace has a knife to manuel’s back and clary is holding the stanchion but emma describes them as walking as if they’re out for a morning stroll.

and like look at the parallels between the series. the tlh crew met one and a half princes of hell and barely made it out with their sanity. the tmi gang has collectively met 3 princes of hell and in literally every situation they’re on the same level. when emma and julian went to thule it was this dark scary traumatizing thing, this actual hell that wasn’t quite hell. and when james, matthew, lucie, and cordelia went to edom it was this terrible experience that both lucie and matthew spent literally dying. but when the tmi gang went to hell, what ever. yeah it was serious and traumatic and scarring but not in the same way. izzy and simon hooked up. clary and jace had sex. and alec made fun of all four of them for it after. jace got caught by a demon and clary scolded him like he left the fridge open. they literally snuck into sebastian’s elite fortress with a plan from simon’s dnd campaign. and diyu?  even when simon was having a mental breakdown he managed to flirt with izzy it took the tlh gang 3 long-ass books to defeat belial and christopher died in the process. the tmi gang beat sammael in a f*cking side book. if you go to the shadowhunter wiki and go to azazel’s history he’s said as being a part of team good. imagine how casual you have to be to get a prince of hell to join ‘team good’

and then there’s the angels. tessa’s contact with ithuriel almost killed her. emma and julian’s whole nephilim thing also almost killed them. and yeah, clary’s first encounter with raziel was very somber and serious. but in cols simon literally blackmailed raziel into giving him a magical sword. and with faerie, every encounter that the tda gang have with faeries or in faerie is this dangerous quest that could get everybody killed. the tmi gang don’t hesitaste to insult the seelie queen to her face

the thing that sets tmi apart from the rest of tsc is the characters’ refusal to take anything, themselves and everyone around them, seriously for very long

I made a post on tiktok saying that Kit and Ty are the slowest burn ever.

And someone commented no it’s good omens bc they take thousands of years

But you don’t understand

The good omens book has been out for a while and the show only had like four years between s1 and 2. (Which is long for a show but we’re comparing to twp here)

While on the Kit and Ty timeline Kit thought Ty was beautiful and Ty was mesmerized by Kit’s eyes 2016 when Lady Midnight came out!!

(I hadn’t even read TDA till QOAAD came out but point still stands)

Then their relationship progressed in LOS and QOAAD. Where we were left completely hanging.

And the past fives years we’ve been getting tidbits. We still have two years to go and now the seasons of shadowhunters.

Then TWP we hope will be out by 2025.

But we knowww that they will not figure their shit out in the first book.

So all in all I’ll be so proud of them if they are together by the end of the decade.

Which totals to a 14-15 year slowburn 😭

yk how like a week ago i found out that thomas gets accused of being the murderer. well i just read the scene. man looks guilty as fuck it must be said :( like he’s not, WE know he’s not. but well. the inquisitor doesn’t.

#speaking of being the inquisitor. i can’t believe the show made alec the inquisitor in a point of the plot that would be right after the #events of the final tmi book. i kinda hate that ngl. but i don’t wanna be mean about a show i literally LIKE. so. #but actually i would like to be mean a little. one second. #ok because clearly they did that because in the more recent books (canonically YEARS after the dark war) alec does become a really big #leader figure and eventually consul but that doesn’t happen until qoaad which came out after they would have written it into the show #and also because robert was the inquisitor in the books so i guess that had something to do with it #but it’s so STUPID and i HATE it because the whole POINT of alec is that he doesn’t like the way the shadowhunter government is run and when #he eventually became consul it was because they were literally having a revolution and the clave was split in two and alec is the consul of #one side while the other side (the traditionalists) are in idris #alec would NOT be the inquisitor and participate in the clave’s established government trying to ‘change it from the inside’ like a cop. #the only reason he’s the consul NOW is because he and his side of shadowhunters wanted a radical change. #the whole point is that the traditional shadowhunter government is agaisnt progress and still thinks shadowhunters are like a superior race #their old government is BAD. that’s why the protagonists of the stories never go to them for help #making him a part of that system is such bullshit to me and at best it shows that the show didn’t understand half the themes of the books #and at worst doesn’t understand alec as a character. which is annoying because they HAVE understood him. they HAVE proven that they know him #they know that alec is a leader but they don’t understand that he’s not a government leader. he’s a revolutionary leader. #also i don’t remember the last ten episodes of the show so i don’t know what i’m taking about blah blah whatever. but still. #this post was supposed to be about thomas. ok. #tlh lb

Mark and Julian’s relationship makes me so insane the first time I read the books I don’t remember feeling that way about it? I think I payed most attention to Ty&Livvy + Ty&Jules + Livvy&Jules out of the dynamics so those stuck out most in my memory there are also shifts in what’s focused on most in LM vs Qoaad so that’s part of it but like… Mark and Julian is so funny and compelling to me because they do not understand each other at all! No scene encompasses how much Mark does not get Julian like the scene post whipping where Jules goes on that speal about how he wouldn’t want to live if Emma died and knows it’s not healthy but he might do what Malcolm did for Annabel if she did did and Mark is like “no my baby brother you are too good a person you would never ever do something like that ik you don’t mean any of it” had me in stitches ajdjdj as a reader who’s been in Jules’ head and knows that yes, he absolutely did mean all of that (codependent king love him for that <3). And then in LoS there’s a scene where Mark is tasked with watching the kids and minor things go wrong (well I mean someone does get injured. But for Shadowhunters that is still p minor) so he’s like “oh my god Julian would Never have let things go wrong like this he would know exactly what to do” bestie no… he wouldn’t have known better he would have just faked it till he made it and never let anyone know he was struggling to begin with lolz. That’s not even getting into the Emma thing which is just a whole cycle of them projecting their own feelings onto the other person Mark assuming Julian loves her platonically because he does and Julian assuming Mark’s would be in love with her because that’s normal existence to him usually I don’t care for set ups like that but this one is fun somehow.. and that scene after Emma and Jules argued and then fucked in that cottage so Jules comes back in a good mood and notices that Mark is constantly on edge around him because he’s accidentally been so snippy/cunty to him since the fake dating started and he’s like “oh have I been that bad?” And then tells Mark he’ll be cool now because he knows they weren’t really together Andjjd. also they’re both sooo bad at being teenage boys in completely different ways so the juxtaposition of their traumas is fun “I don’t understand how to be a teenage boy because I’ve been raised to be a “feral” (only using the word because they use it to describe Mark so many times in the books) creature and feel trapped by being among humans” vs “I don’t understand how to deal with teenage boy emotions or think through that aspect of life so I repress all of them while clinging to my responsible adult mask + using my political strategist wiles to get through life”. Idk why but I just really like their whole thing…
