Isaac's Styria
Tumblr media
As anyone who reads my stuff on Ao3 will know: What really has me fascinated about Castlevania in the end is Styria post-canon. Because it is just such an interesting scenario.
We know that Styria has been ruled by the sisters for hundreds of years. How many hundred years? That we do not know. But we can pretty certainly say it has been at least 200 years. Maybe even more.
As the show does not go a lot into the worldbuilding (which, again, is totally fine, because it would not add to the plot), so we do not exactly know what life in Styria looks like. But we do know that the vampire sisters talk about the humans within the country as livestock, so not really considering them as people. We also see that - until the mercenaries are hired - there are only vampires living in the castle.
So, it is pretty clear that within Styria under the sisters humans were at most just second class to the vampire. But it also seems that the sisters mostly keep to themselves. We do not really see them in any meaningful interact with any of the other vampires. Though the other vampires seem to have a good life for the most part.
Now, Isaac takes over by killing Carmilla. Striga and Morana decide not to return to the castle, because they care more about each other than they care about ruling. And Isaac decides that he wants to build "a way for people to live". Which is all very nice as a sentiment... But it also makes me think about stuff.
Through the dialogue of Miranda we know that Styria mostly holds the neighbouring kingdoms off by force. Which kinda makes sense. Because on one hand we do know that certain people do not like a kingdom ruled by women (which for the time is admittedly not quite historically accurate, given that the neighbouring duchy of Bavaria had a duchess ruling at the time) and I highly doubt that the human kingdoms were quite happy about their vampire neighbours.
Tumblr media
But with Isaac taking the throne he is gonna run into some problems, right? Because racism and anti-muslim sentiment. And also because he has not learned how to rule. We know he knows how to read and probably also write at least. We see him read in Greek, he very likely also knows how to read/write Arabian. Given he tried to learn what his owner was doing, he probably also knows some Latin. He probably does not know any German.
But he seems to aim to make a society where people can actually be free. So instead of having their labour exploited (what happened under feudalism as well, though not to the degree of capitalism), so that they can have an actual future instead of "an eternal now".
But while a great idea, he is very much gonna struggle in having it happen, right? Because the human populus was held as livestock. So we gotta wonder how much they know about self-governance and such.
And there is also another issue: Canonically he has all the vampires in the castle killed. But it is likely that he needs some of those vampires to help him, because he needs some people who know stuff about the realm and the best people for that would be some vampires.
Which is why I just opted to ignore the "kill everyone" part, with about sixty vampires surviving the attack on the castle. (With more vampires that were acting as border guards also being alive in the end.)
But that also would mean that they are going to have to include the vampires into the government, too. And of course, a free society would have some form of democracy or anarchism as the form of government. Probably with Isaac acting as a figurehead king because without some form of nobility folks would not accept the realm as such.
Tumblr media
Now, I have Striga and Morana return to Styria after two years. After the events of The lesser Evil to be exact. Because it ends up being mutually beneficial. Striga and Morana are of course in more danger as long as they are out there without an actual home. Because, you know, they still die in the sunlight. So a vampire castle most certainly is preferable. Meanwhile Isaac really does not know how to run the place - and the people probably also do not know it. So, having them help would be good for either side.
Morana was the administrator. And as such she can probably teach a lot of things to Isaac. She also seems to be the most attached to Carmilla out of the sisters from what we see, which makes me think that she is also gonna hate Isaac's guts. Because he was the one who killed Carmilla. (I mean, technically Carmilla killed herself - but let's not kid ourselves, if she hadn't, he would've killed her within the next minute.)
But with the vampires being around - which again is necessary - there also needs to be a solution for feeding. While we never quite know how this happens in Carmilla's Styria, I am just gonna assume that people die. Because that is just how vampire culture is shown to deael with that.
But in a more equal society, there can be consensual feeding. We know that vampires cannot need too much blood given how long Dracula goes without blood. So, you know, have humans who volunteer to give a bit of blood.
Some of the vampires might actually grumble about that. Because to them the aspect of hunting for the food was actually part of the fun. But that is an actual compromise.
Tumblr media
Again, who reads my post-canon Styria stuff knows, that I am very fascinated by this topic. Because it is just such a hopeful ending for that storyline.
And yes, also it is no secret that I just really love the characters involved. That is Hector, Isaac, Striga, Morana and also Abel and our little awkward FlysEyes. I find them so interesting as characters and I really enjoy writing about their relationships. Not only the romantic ones, but also the platonic ones.
So... yeah. I wanted to talk a bit more about this before Nocturne comes out. As I still doubt that we will get to know much about what happened there after the ending.
So, if you crave more content about the forgemasters, the wives and the night creatures... go read my post-canon Styria stuff.

Tumblr media
With a towel wrapped around your body and your hair damp, you leave the bathroom to dress for the day after your morning bath. Adrian had been in your room when you left but now he was nowhere to be found. You think little of it and assume he must be in the kitchen making breakfast. He always insists on caring for you, especially your health, with recipes from his childhood that he learned either from his perch on his mother’s hip or from stretching up on his toes so that he could watch her over the kitchen counter.
You smile to yourself when you picture it: this tiny little boy with all his blond hair following his mother around this colossal castle like her shadow. Based on the man you know him now to be, you can only imagine that Adrian was the sweetest little boy.
How could that boy have grown to suffer so much?
This question crosses your mind when you also find the kitchen empty, no sign of Adrian having been there at all. He wouldn’t go to the Hold or out foraging without telling you. Perhaps he had gone to one of the lower levels of the castle to the cool room in order to get some ingredients to cook with? Upon checking there you also found no traces of your lover.
You begin to grow increasingly more worried about his whereabouts. When Sypha moved the castle and in the battle that followed, many of the windows were shattered. You and Alucard have been doing your best to board them up but Dracula’s Castle was immensely big and there were still many opening that you#ve yet to seal up. Had a night creature got in somewhere? Is Alucard now in some room of the castle fighting the beast or beasts? Your heart begins to anxiously flutter in your chest.
So far, the creatures that you have encountered post-battle have all been drawn to Dracula’s death site and so that is where you go. Despite Dracula being dead and his war being quashed, you know that you’re not out of the woods yet: night creatures from his army still roam freely, Dracula’s court is in disarray and has become a breeding ground for political turmoil – especially when considering how you’ve already heard talk that the four Queens of Styria are already on some mission to create their own empire. You can’t settle, you can’t give yourself a moment to relax when there’s windows to board up, the Belmont Hold to repair, food to find, rooms to clean and your lover is missing.
As you begin approaching Adrian’s childhood bedroom, the faint sounds of sobbing grow louder and louder until eventually you’re standing in the doorway. Adrian’s head is in his hands, blonde tresses falling around him like a curtain to hide his pain from the world while he curls up on the floor at the foot of the broken bed. The floor is scorched from the wake that his father’s death left behind; naught but a wedding ring is left behind.
Whether Adrian hears, smells or senses you, you have no clue – you just know that his dhampir senses are far superior to yours – but when he looks up, the whites of his eyes are a milky pink with the bloody tears that are staining cursed rivers down his cheeks. His thick blond lashes are clumped with the half-dried blood which tells you that he’s likely been here and crying since you first got into your bath this morning. But you can’t bear to simply stand there and watch him suffer.
You’re quick to join him on the floor, kneeling by his side and wrapping your arms around him, feeling his face bury into your shoulder and stain your fresh shirt with his bloody tears but you couldn’t care less about that. One of your hands comes up to caress his golden hair, nails lightly scratching over his scalp in a comforting manner as you hush him and press soft kisses to the side of his head, gently rocking him in your arms as he clings to you. He holds you so tight that it’s rather uncomfortable but you don’t say a word because your comfort currently doesn’t matter to you in the slightest. It’s only once that his sobs have calmed down to ragged breaths and sniffles do you finally pull away. You cup his face in your hands, thumbs first smoothing over sharp cheekbones before they swipe under his eyes to begin smearing away his tears. You first softly kiss his forehead and then his mouth, resting your head against his as you breathe slowly and steadily in the hope that he’ll mimic you and it’ll help him calm down sooner.
“I killed him…” He breathes out, words so quiet as though he can hear God damning him a thousand times over for his sin.
“My love… he was already gone. His heart died the day your mother was taken from this world. He had lost his mind and so many others would have died if not for what you did. Wherever he is now, I’m sure that your mother is in his arms and he finally feels whole again. You don’t deserve to carry the weight of this burden alone, you should have come to me…” You wipe more tears from his face, using the back of your hand to dash away the large collection of them upon the bottom of his chin. “Being in this room won’t help you. Why don’t we go and make breakfast and then we can go for a walk, hm? We can find mushrooms, fish, and find somewhere nice to just sit and cuddle for a while when the sun comes out in the afternoon… What do you say?” You ask him as you tuck some of his hair behind his ears. He nods as you cup his face in your hands and he then leans his forehead upon your shoulder.
“Thank you…” He says softly, “I… I have no clue what man I would be all alone in this place if I didn’t have you by my side.” He kisses your collar and you help him to his feet, hoping that a change of setting will make him feel better.

H-hello! I been pondering if sending this asks for a while... s-so here I am! Can I ask for Hector x F!reader that is a witch? (Maybe she was part of Dracula's court due to her magic? Maybe she was saved before her fellow humans brned her on a pyre? Also maybe... maybe she joined Isaac in the battle to get Carmilla's castle and save Hector? Sorry... I got super specific.) If possible I would love both pre and post Hector, please feel free to ignore me if you want, thank you in advance in any case!
Hector x Fem!Witch!Reader - Headcanons
Her and Hector meet at Dracula's court. Both of them and Isaac being the only humans, they gravitated towards each other.
Her and Hector specially. He asks her story and she explains her mother was a witch, and she died when she was young. That meant she was sent to live with her grandmother. Who hated that her granddaughter was a witch like her mother.
Unloved, she ran away. She ran and seeked to learn about her magic.
Only to narrowly escape when the church attempted to burn her.
And that's why she was there. Though Lisa had been wrongfully labeled a witch, she had been in the same place, facing the same savage death.
She harbored no love for humans.
Well, most of them.
She did hold Hector in a special place.
And in her he saw a kindred spirit. Perhaps the only human worth keeping.
So when Carmilla took him, she was furious.
She sets on a journey to save him that puts her on Styria at the same time as Isaac.
This time, Carmilla doesn't get to go out like she wanted.
Her and Isaac defeat her, and she feeds Carmilla to one of Hector's night creatures.
She spares Lenore on Hector's request. Though she likely wouldn't have done so, had she known the entirety of her role in his suffering.
She's just happy he's okay.
And he is surprised she cared enough to rescue him.
No one had loved him like that before.

Lenore Posting
One of the most influential lines in vampire literature was in a poem that features no vampires: "Denn die Todten reiten schnell" from Lenore by Gottfried August Bürger.
For fun, I must first address that this phrase also appears in what is considered Bram Stoker's first draft of Dracula: Dracula's Guest.
Impelled by some sort of fascination, I approached the sepulchre to see what it was, and why such a thing stood alone in such a place. I walked around it, and read, over the Doric door, in German: COUNTESS DOLINGEN OF GRATZ IN STYRIA SOUGHT AND FOUND DEATH 1801 On the top of the tomb, seemingly driven through the solid marble—for the structure was composed of a few vast blocks of stone—was a great iron spike or stake. On going to the back I saw, graven in great Russian letters: “The dead travel fast.”
Why it is in Russian when the engraving on the tomb is in German and why proto-Jonathan is able to read both languages when his first draft self knew not even a lick of German, I cannot say. What I can say is that Styria is a reference to Carmilla, of course, and we know from the engraving: "sought and found death" that the Countess likely committed suicide, which is often deemed a sin in Christianity that can condemn one to vampirism. Eternal life as punishment for seeking death against God's will. You could take this paired with the quote as a reference to Bürger's Ballad of Lenore, in which a grieving woman curses God for the death of her beloved and is punished with death... but it doesn't fit as well as it should. That bitch Dolingen ain't travelling nowhere.
Okay, okay, right to the book:
The parallels to Bürger's ballad start before the line is spoken. The driver drives dangerously fast, urged on by his other passengers, much to Jonathan's chagrin. How was it that Lenore was led to her death? A man resembling her beloved, Wilhelm, appeared on a horse and bid her to join him to go to their marriage bed. On the way, he rides wildly, distressing her. He inquires:
“What ails my love? the moon shines bright: Bravely the dead men ride through the night. Is my love afraid of the quiet dead?” “Ah! no;—let them sleep in their dusty bed!”
(By the way, here, "Denn die Todten reiten schnell" is translated as "Bravely the dead men ride through the night")
"You are early to-night, my friend." The man stammered in reply:— "The English Herr was in a hurry," to which the stranger replied:— "That is why, I suppose, you wished him to go on to Bukovina. You cannot deceive me, my friend; I know too much, and my horses are swift." As he spoke he smiled, and the lamplight fell on a hard-looking mouth, with very red lips and sharp-looking teeth, as white as ivory. One of my companions whispered to another the line from Burger's "Lenore":— "Denn die Todten reiten schnell" — ("For the dead travel fast.")
Here, the reference is a better fit. Jonathan's fellow passenger makes the comment in reference to the stranger, who we know is the Count, being one of the dead, or rather, Un-Dead. He's travelling. Rather fast. As the dead do.
As the ballad goes on, "Wilhelm" invites a passing funeral procession to drop their mourning and sing him and his bride cheery marriage songs, which they do.
The driver and passengers (who could, in a way, be described as Jonathan's funeral procession), do not follow the Count, instead leaving for Bukovina, lamenting their failure to outpace the dead. But no matter, they are replaced by the wolves, whose singing is praised by the Count:
"Listen to them—the children of the night. What music they make!"
Now, Dracula isn't putting on the familiar face of Jonathan's dear Wilhelmina, but he does still come in disguise. And even when he introduces himself properly as Count Dracula, his hospitality is a façade to trap Jonathan and lead him to his doom.

We finally watched Nocturne.
... what? No, no endless post this time :P not only because it's just one season. It's just as I expected: it's not as infuriating as its big sibling. (unless you're familiar with the French Revolution coughcough@the-crow-binary)
We only watched the first four episodes so far, and I have already said a lot, so let's go.
The thing I complained the most about, I noticed, was the worldbuilding, mostly how vampires work. The original show "elfified" vampires, only keeping the basic traits "need blood, don't like sunlight or running water, can turn into things like bats and mist". They were portrayed as this ancient rage, one with its own culture (much superior than the dumb humans who forget everything because church bad): they sleep normally, they can eat food if they so wish, apparently they can have sex with zero issues lol, and infamously child vampires are treated as, well, innocent children and not as poor human kids suffering a terrible fate. Trevor even kindly tells us that the reason vampires hate crosses regardless of their faith is because their eyesight is so advanced that they freak out at the sight of geometrical shapes. The only monstruous trait they have is that apparently they have a tendency to go insane and crave power. Honestly, they kind of remind me of Twilight.
And somehow Nocturne manages to get it worse.
Now, yes, vampires in Nocturne bite far more often than in the OG show. I think in that other show we see them doing that... twice? And Carmilla and Lenore lick Hector's blood; then they just drink from their stock of blood à la Drac from SoTN. Anyway, Nocturne is more willing to show them as beasts, so good job. Hell, Sun Thundercat even turns a human!
But in this setting, vampires seem to not even have those few weaknesses they had in the OG show. For a story centered on how Sun Thundercat will bring eternal night to the world because sun is the number 1 obstacle to vampires, it's baffling how easily they can just walk around in plain daylight. Olrox looks out of the window with his face illuminated by the sun. Drolta can literally walk just fine, even without a parasol. @spinningbuster98 kept asking "why don't peasants or slaves just destroy the windows of the places where they know vampires live?" - well clearly they'd be fine!
And special shoutout to Drolta who openly mocks the concept of her being hurt by being in a church. At least in S1, Blue Fangs explained its presence in the Bishop's church by blaming his heinous actions for pushing God away.
Vampires are also shockingly well integrated into society. These extremely pale people, with visible pointy ears and long fangs, can chill around in a nice palace or stroll into a theatre, and no one bats an eye. How? In the OG show, vampires could be in a position of power (see the council of Styria), but they mostly worked from the shadows. Did humans just... accept the presence of these monsters?
(the cross weakness becomes way funnier now. Vampires are weak to the religion they used to believe in, so Annette can ask the help of the Christian God to harm previously Christian vampires. I actually like this. But then this makes that OG "vampires have super freaky eyesight" scene even stupider than it used to be)
Another point for the clumsy worldbuilding. Hey, remember how I complained that N!Hector wearing Hector's CoD outfit makes no sense? Because that's what he could cobble up from his old Devil Forgemaster uniform and it's basically the best he can wear for running through the country and fighting, while N!Hector 1) is still in Drac's service in S2 so you'd expect a more professional uniform from him, like the one worn by N!Isaac, and 2) he very much does not fight, making details like the arm guard and the single glove look redudant. We have a similar issue here: Maria, whose design was taken straight out of DXC, complains in the first episode that her mother is too poor to pay taxes. You can tell that she doesn't look that poor. To make things even worse, in the second episode, Tera is able to offer bread to Annette and Edouard: the French Revolution started, among other reasons, because even bread got ridiculously expensive for common people! So which is it? Is Maria one of the common people, or a well-off young woman who really has no business leading the revolution?
And this... is tied to other problems.
The French Revolution is nothing more than a shallow backdrop for the main plot being the Vampire Messiah being hyped up as the greatest evil to ever evil. You can tell the writers did not care when they cast Vaublanc, a real person who fought against slavery, as a vampire slaveowner. I think. I think you shouldn't do that.
The point is, it becomes increasingly jarring when you see that the main protagonists, the ones who spout the most generic "liberty, equality, fraternity"... are not even French. Maria has Russian origins, and as I've shown she seems to be doing well. Richter is a Romanian who grew up in the US. Annette, who gets to make a super epic speech about freedom, is a runaway from Saint-Domingue. Edouard is a rich opera singer, also from Saint-Domingue.
Oh, Annette.
You know, I want to say something. I'd have much more patience for her abrasive, ungrateful, condescending behavior, I'd justify it as a result of her trauma, if it weren't for how mean-spirited she is and for how no one seems to even react to her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
bruh.
You did that, huh. Richter has been nothing but kind and supportive to you, relating to the loss of your friend and of your mother - this isn't a Trevor situation where you can fall for what the story tells you and believe he's actually rude, no, Richter is on-screen a very nice guy! And you say that? To his face? After he revealed to you that the Belmonts used to do magic but he can't because he lost his mom? Something you should know how devastating it feels? And you THROW THAT TO HIS FACE??
Richter is the one who gasps, by the way. Maria and Tera over there? Nah they're just eating popcorn as this stranger is deliberately hitting Richter where it hurts the most. Thanks girls.
Oh but she's not done!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I know what this is. Look at her, the Stronk former slave who suffered Hardships which inherently makes her more Mature and World Wise, looking down on the two white French people who obviously had it so easy in their lives.
Hey, Ms. Adult. Who's the one who lost control of her powers, leading to Edouard becoming a Night Creature? Richter is too nice to throw that in your face. I'm not :)
Hey, Ms. I Suffered More Than You. Who's the one who only managed to save herself from the plantation only due to magical god-inherited powers? Which is also incredibly insensitive to the real-life slaves who managed to escape with nothing more but human skills and intellect?
Hey, Ms. I'm More Mature Than You Whiteys. Who's the one who needed the help of a rich half-white man to be protected? Not that you even know the concept of being grateful.
Uh, and Tera? You mind chiming in? You mind defending your daughter and your adopted son from this stranger who keeps being rude and disrespectful? No? Okay. She just suggests how to save Edouard, but lets Annette's words slide. You and Lisa can compete for the title of Mom of the Year.
Oh, but this is not a sexism or racism issue. This is literally the same thing as Alucard in S2 being the biggest hypercunt to Trevor, making fun of his traumatic childhood, cruelly mocking his family and his legacy, and treating him like he's nothing more than a failure of a drunkard when the dude has been nothing but a help in fights and gave them access to the vast Belmont Hold... and Sypha always rushed in Alucard's defense because boohoo his depression is an icy well of sadness, he Suffered More Than You!
This is just the writers shitting on the Belmonts, and I am sick of it. Trevor did not deserve this, and Richter doesn't deserve this.
Anyway, characters. I have little to say. Richter is the best one, being reasonably cocky as you would expect from him; not to an insufferable degree, just yeah he comes off as an immature young man who needs to grow up. I like him. Maria is a parody of teens on Twitter talking about seizing the means of production, and I kind of forget she's there. Annette, yeah :) Edouard got retroactively characterized after his death, but I still don't know how to describe his personality beyond "helpful" and "source of infodumps". Tera exists. The abbot is profoundly stupid for allying himself with vampires for the sake of crushing the "Godless" Revolution (there's an N!Hector joke to make here but it's not worth it). Drolta is basically Isaac who slapped a pair of tits on himself and just like that she's a beloved slay queen icon. Templar Agent Stone Mizrak is mere bara bait so far. Olrox... well, so far he's mildly intriguing for being outside of the hero/villain dichotomy. Kind of a tryhard, though, and I still don't know why he didn't just kill Richter.
My last complaint is that it's really boring how they hype up Sun Thundercat as this harbinger of DEATH AND SUFFERING AND PAIN AND TERROR way before we even see her. It reminds me of Alucard exposing how a world without humans would be: just this empty, edgy narration with nothing to show for it. But at least by then we had a taste of Dracula's anger and powers, so this is even worse. You need to try harder to build up an antagonist.
and finally, have the best moment in the whole franchise

seeing a spate of posts that go like "person A: why can't we have evil women in media / person B: you can't even handle women who are assertive/loud/angry/rude/etc."
and being very aware that netflixvania's carmilla is exactly the kind of unrepentant evil woman those posts are talking about, and i get why people might simply enjoy her for that quality but... i just can't like her in any meaningful way. that might make me seem like a hypocrite because i famously enjoy games!isaac for being the exact same kind of cruel, bitchy character that's prone to violence at the slightest provocation! (hell, these two have so much in common, characterization-wise, even if they come from complete opposite ends when you examine their motivations. which doubly enrages me that people praise n!carmilla yet still shit on games!isaac since they're essentially almost the same character. but. i digress.)
i think the real sticking point is that they simply didn't develop her character enough, so she presents to me as this really shallow, caricaturized "ALL MEN BAD!!!!!!" feminist stereotype that's been historically used to demonize the entire movement. they try to subvert this by hinting that she has deep trauma about about her experiences that drove her to this state, by way of nightmares being mentioned by morana, and then she herself describing her vampire sire as a "cruel, old, mad man" but like. that's it, nothing substantial. now, i understand the hesitancy to actually show what she went through, whatever it could've been - netflixvania gets absolutely no points from me for being able to tackle what would no doubt be a very delicate topic (but isn't it interesting they're okay with putting their male characters through graphic, on-screen sexual assault, but it's almost entirely framed as titillating voyeurism?)
the more i think on it, the more i believe both her and n!hector's characters could've benefitted tremendously if they just focused on their characters and relationship and nixed the rest of the council. (like i'm sorry but they really do nothing for the plot. i maintain that lenore only exists for fetishy reasons, and striga and morana are just the token lesbian couple)
n!carmilla could've had an interesting character arc where we see her turn into the thing she opposes, driven by her aimless hatred (and we do kind of get that in the show, but it feels so out of left field by that point), where she'd basically take the role of games!isaac in relation to games!hector - she who doesn't rise above the cruelty that was inflicted upon her, while n!hector does in regaining his agency.
if you really want to keep the fact that n!carmilla is just a huge man-hating bitch, and you really need to see n!hector dehumanized, then i think both those things could work together without reducing one character to fanservice.
picture this: the end of S2 still happens, where n!carmilla forcibly drags n!hector back to styria, except instead of being introduced to the council of sisters, we see that the entirety of the styrian castle's inhabitants are female - such is n!carmilla hatred of men that she only allows women in her court. at least, until n!hector gets there.
that setting alone already gives you a million more insidious ways to dehumanize n!hector that don't involve him naked and being beaten half to death, and does more to show n!carmilla's petty hatred and cruelty, resenting men so much but knowing full well she needs hector's skills if she wants her plans to succeed, so she messes with his head while still giving him free roam of the castle (albeit with a very heavily implied "but watch out") show how her cruelty towards n!hector is directly mirroring her own experiences so we can sympathize with her, but also show that n!hector is just not the kind of guy she should be directing her ire at. really re-frame her not as a "feminazi" stereotype, but a person who has obviously been so broken by their trauma, despite the cool, confident exterior they project.
take advantage of the fact that n!hector is once again a fish out of water, albeit in an entirely different context - where previously he was shunned by humanity for his unnatural abilities, now he's simply hated by the vampire residents for being born the 'wrong' gender. make him connect the dots and realize in both instances he doesn't deserve any of it, and instead of generalizing by throwing in his lot with one side or the other, pick his battles a little more wisely and yes, ultimately decide n!carmilla needs to die by his hand to regain his freedom.
in case it's not obvious, i'm not sparing a thought for how any of this affect's n!isaacs arc - i guess at the end of things, they could have a bit of a role reversal from their game counterparts where, after killing n!carmilla in revenge for everything, n!hector is almost about to succumb to the same hatred n!carmilla did and begin the cycle anew, until n!isaac swoops in, fully intent on killing him but deciding he's suffered enough anyway, and shares what he's learned over his travels. it gets through to n!hector and he stops dead in his tracks - we the audience realize in the instant that n!carmilla is a tragic character, how the only things that might've saved her from her own undoing are like... connection and understanding. something she never got even though she surrounded herself with others seemingly like herself, but it was purely superficial. how this could've been a nice pushback against the radf*m theory of 'sisterhood' in that n!hector probably had more in common with n!carmilla, but because she simply refused to see any kind of common ground in him for simply being a man, shut herself off from the thing she actually needs and sealed her own fate.

Did you know:
Dănești is a real village, but it is located in Transylvania and not in what used to be Wallachia, where the majority of Castlevania takes place.  (Or at least 50% of it.  I mean, Hector does spend a lot of time in Styria, which is in Austria, and Isaac seemed to be making a grand tour of Europe and the Mediterranean, so...)   However, there is a bit of historical context to this village in the series.  The name Dănești refers to the Dănești family, a branch of the reigning family of historical Wallachia that, for a few generations, bitterly rivaled the Draculești family.
In a previous post, I touched on the issues of succession in Wallachia, but the long and short of it is after the death of Mircea the Old in 1418, a fight for the throne broke out between Mircea’s sons and his brother, Dan I.  The Dănești line was descended from Dan I and the Draculești branch came from Mircea the Old.  As you could probably tell from the name, Vlad the Impaler and supposed inspiration for Dracula (although some historians are casting doubt on this, but more on that another time,) came from the Draculești line.
In all, it’s a clever nod to the historical rivalry in using Dănești as the village fighting against Dracula’s resurrection.
Note for clarity:  This letter ș is an S-cedilla and it is pronounced with an sh sound as in ‘ship’ or ‘shoe.’

One of the things I love about Shivers & Monza is how I ship them more post-BSC than I did during BSC. By the end of BSC, Monza was much more self-aware, she was no longer consumed by a single-minded desire for revenge, and considering that Styria won three wars against the Union afterwards, not to mention how awesome Jappo, Vitari, and Shenkt are in AoM, I think it's fair to assume that Monza is now a highly competent leader. Likewise, Shivers's journey up to AoM is one of forgiveness, he comes to understand himself better and where he fits in the world, and in gaining a daughter-like figure in Rikke he shows that, while he can be a terrifying fighter, he would rather choose peace. He has learned to move forward in a way very few characters do. Both of them have!
Monza & Shivers in BSC were cute and toxic and disturbing. Monza & Shivers in AoM could probably take over the world. What they went through - including their breakup - made them better people.
All this to say, Jappo & Rikke!Parent Trap when?

How did this turn out wholesome?
See, the idea was quite simple: I wanted to do a second fic for our little Board Game challenge. Originally I wanted to do one for Arcane, but then I had this idea. It started as: Striga and Isaac playing chess. Then I was like: "Oh, maybe Hector and Morana should be there, too." And then I went like: "Hey, maybe the night creatures are there, too." And then, suddenly this happened.
This is now 5 years post-canon and 3 years after Striga and Morana are back in Styria. And... I did not expect this to turn into a found family thing. Yet somehow it did? I don't know. But it was... kinda wholesome o.o

I made you into My Pet
Tumblr media
Been a while since I wrote some one-shots (I write them, show it to my smut reading friends but I never posted them on Tumblr or any other website.) This one is about the pairing Hector X Lenore or Lenector for short from the Netflix Castlevania series which is one of my favourites. Despite the Pairing being inherently unhealthy and Problematic I just can't help but become enthralled by the skewed power dynamics, basically I know that its wrong, so its fiction so I enjoy it anyway (for the moral police). I'm open for constructive criticism on this work given that you won't be a hateful waste of space. Enjoy!
PS: I'm a novice at making GIFS so please excuse me.
---------------------------------------------------
Sick
That's what Hector felt once he exited the council room. Or for the lack of a better word, thats what he felt when he got dragged out of the council room by the woman who viciously betrayed him hours ago, as she led him down the hallway, gently holding his hand as he wobbled along behind her.
Pangs of nausea circulated throughout his abdomen. His mind on overdrive with the recent overload of information dumped on his already overstimulated mind. He could feel the gears of his head turning as he processed this new batch of information, he felt his temples burning, he thought if this continued further he would see steam rising from his head as he replayed the voices in the council room mere moments ago.
"These are slave rings, one of them found it's way to Hector's hand when he was swearing his loyalty to me"
"Oh my God you've adopted him"
"Turns out he's fairly good at sex and I want to train him"
"Shush the real people are talking"
His breath quickened and his head, hurt and heavy. Thinking was a luxury that he could no longer afford as he felt his legs give out from the icy breeze of Styria's night sky. He fell on his knees. His hands on the ground. His shivers forming clouds in the freezing wind. The torches in the hall way flickered as he tried getting back his bearings. Time and space seemed disjointed as everything around him became immaterial. There was only the aftershocks of the piercing pain he felt a few hours ago, when he foolishly pledged his life away to her.
He wanted to scream, scream his heart out, do something, anything. But all he could do was whimper as the reality of his situation dawned on him. His hands trembled on the cold marble floor in the hallway leading away from the council room, he could see his knuckles get pale as they rested on the white marble, the veins of his hand moving ever so slightly as he shivered. His eyes, so fixated on his shivering hands that they did not register the glint of a small, inconspicuous ring of black and red, resting gently on the ring finger of his left hand.
Slave Ring as Lenore called it. The Instrument of her betrayal, and his damnation. Such a small, unassuming thing. When Lenore visited his cell a few hours ago and beckoned him to join her on the rug that she brought along by patting on the empty space beside her, he never noticed it. It was only when she placed her hand on his and intertwined their fingers was when he saw it. Such a small thing. It was never on her before, during her nightly visits to his cell, thus it was only natural for him to ask.
"I never noticed that ring on your hand before. Is that new?"
"Oh, this small thing? It's a symbol of what binds me and my sisters together. The night and the blood. The four of us wear it"
She playfully showed the Red and Black coils that rested on her finger as she nestled closer to him. Before she changed the topic.
A neat sentiment, he thought. A Kingdom ruled by Four Powerful Vampire Women wearing matching rings, a symbol of their sisterhood and reign. Only for it to come crashing down as the cold hearted truth pertaining to the small insignificant object that now rested on his finger reared it's head in the council room, mere moments ago.
"When Hector forges a Night Creature they're loyal to him. But now, he's bound to me through the magic of these rings. When he makes a Night Creature, they're loyal to him, and he swore his loyalty to me so they're loyal to me too"
"These rings are linked, you wear them and his creatures will be loyal to you too. And if he ever tries to harm us,  take the ring off or tries to run away the ring will cause him so much pain that he would think he shat out his own heart"
Hector was so lost in his hopeless retrospection that he couldn't notice someone's arms gently resting on his shoulders. He could make out dainty fingers tracing the sides of his delts as they rested gently on his clavicle. A woman's hands. And he could only think of one. The one responsible for this brief measure of peace in his hellish imprisonment, and also, the source of his greatest downfall. He could see a small yet regal frame come closer. Dressed in a Dark Shade of Blue, complementing the Styrian snowy sky overlooking the hallway along with a full White Fur Cloak, resting on her shoulders.  He dared himself to look up, what met his gaze was divine.
Her doe eyes with irises of pristine rubies accentuating with the torches flickering in the hallway looked down on him. Her waist length hair, a Fiery Blaze, with two locks falling in front. Her porcelain skin adorned with a slight pink on her cheeks. Her smile-
Her smile, one that exhumed a warm nurturing aura, one of the first things he noticed about her when she visited his cell for the first time. It was so reassuring, it made him be at ease, making him let his gaurd down.
Aquamarine Eyes lost themselves in her gaze as he lost himself in the trance. The flames of rage that he so thoroughly fanned and nurtured in the council room almost died out, leaving an ember of what was once an inferno. Suddenly, he felt cold hands shifting from his shoulders, gently making their way to the underside of his jaw and eventually resting on his cheeks as she looked down upon him.
Vampires were cold, yes. They were a type of an undead. Their hearts didn't beat and they didn't require human food to survive yet they enjoyed it for solely recreational purposes. They needed Human Blood. It was their source of nutrition. The rush of Vitality they get once they taste the copper flow through their throats cannot be matched with any earthly source of sustenance.
Yet her cold touch could still elicit a wave of pleasure through his body. Her mere closing of physical distance between them was enough to make his cheeks flush a deep shade of red. Her thumbs drew circles on his cheeks bones and he felt his heartbeat quicken, pumping blood throughout his body. Especially to his member. He began leaning in to her touch.
Before things could escalate Hector felt the cold touch of Lenore's master ring hugging his cheekbone. He steeled himself yet again. The waning embers of his dying resolve reignited into the inferno that was his fury. His soft eyes narrowed as he grimaced. His features, sharper than ever.
He swatted her hands away from him as he ephemarily got back his bearings. He got back on his feet and instinctively took a few wobbly steps backward, away from her, like a prey backing away from a predator. His mind still reeling from the shock. His breath, shacky. Lenore did nothing. She cocked her head and watched him curiously with her Doll Face.
His voice, now a raspy timbre, shot back.
"You tricked me and made me into your slave!"
The horrific realisation of his fate had now been given a physical existence as he worded them out. The brief control of his body that he regained started slipping again, he wrapped his arms around his stomach as he braced himself. His footing betrayed him again as his legs gave out and he fell on his knees on the cold marble floor yet again.
Lenore, ever so in control, smiled again. It was not a malicious smile. Not the kind that one gives when they best their opponent through deceit and treachery. But the warm, kind smile when you've helped someone out of the goodness of your heart. When you do good for someone because you like them. The kind of smile that made your face radiant, with Warmth and Understanding.
"I did no such thing"
She walked towards Hector's crouched body, with a warm smile and her arms extended.
Hector couldn't see her. He was busy clutching the ring on his left hand. His eyes wide and his breath shakey as the implication of the object that rested on his finger, finally dawned on him. He grabbed a fistful of his own silver locks as his raspy voice announced his defeated realisation of his fate
"You made me your slave! My life is over"
Lenore heard his heart race, the shortening of his breath, as well as the ever so slight tremble of his muscles in tension as his chest rose and fell with each shakey exhale.
She saw him clutching his beautiful silver locks, almost tearing them. She saw his long handsome face drown in a miserable expression as he tried catching his breath. She couldn't bear to see her silly pretty boy having a panic attack over something he had not yet fully understood. She wanted to do nothing but hold him, ease him into this, and make him finally understand that this wasn't damnation. He'll understand, in time. She will patiently make him  understand, as many times if need be. And in time, he will be hers, forever .
"Your life is saved Hector"
Her voice, gently refuting his laments. As she wrapped her arms over his crouched figure. Resting over his shoulders. He hated how at ease he felt. He hated that her touch made him feel relaxed as his heartbeat and his breath returned to normalcy. He felt her left hand traverse his Silver hair as she gently grabbed the back of his head and massaged the scalp. He didn't dare to look up, eyes transfixed on his knees that rested on the white marble.
"In fact I gave you what you really needed"
She spoke again, with a hint of excitement, as if she were to reveal a surprise to him that might somehow make him feel better. Hector felt her other hand gently glide to the underside of his jaw and eventually rest under his chin. Gently nudging him to look up at her and meet her gaze.
He met her. Doe eyes shining, like polished rubies, they sparkled with excitement as she finally unveiled what she planned for him all along, with a voice of suppressed excitement.

Top-5 races to watch any category and Top-5 races to watch only MotoGP
top 5 any category:
motoamerica 2022 new jersey race 2. i was there. it poured rain, petrux put out a 10 second lead, ashton yates was almost relevant!
500cc west german gp 1989. this is free on youtube and a perfect time capsule of the big bang era of the late 80s. the commentator calls mick doohan "mike", schwantz puts on a spectacular show, the vhs quality is endearingly terrible.
500cc italian gp 1993. this one is really just sad; wayne rainey crashes out, breaking his spine and becoming permanently paralyzed. it's an important part of racing history, though, and i don't think "favorite" means "best result", but "most emotionally impactful". rainey's injury ended his career, handing the championship to kevin schwantz. it's a reminder of the danger and sacrifice of racing.
wsbk most 2021 race 1. toprak's last lap pass against redding for the win literally changed my life. in post-race interviews redding said toprak should "show some respect"... basically asking for the win to be handed to him. anytime redding says anything now, i'm tempted to remind him to show some respect. it's become my catchphrase for making fun of him.
moto2 portugal 2022. objectively an awful result for almost everybody but one of my favorites nonetheless just for the drama and narrative arc. joe's first win.
top 5 motogp:
laguna seca 2006. a relatively popular pick, but fuck, this is a true classic. nicky hayden slays on home turf. the mark neale documentary about this race, the doctor, the kentucky kid and the texas tornado, is wonderful. it's so quintessentially 2000s.
austria 2021. maverick had his infamous meltdown and martin took his first win since his catastrophic crash at portimao earlier that year, having broken 8 bones.
styria 2021. same track, different weekends. brad got his first win in perhaps the most insane race finish of recent memory. i usually HATE pit stops in motorcycle racing (fuck daytona 200), but this one is a stunner from start to end.
cota 2023. alex motherfucking rins, baby! winning on an independent honda at a track he loves. this one just fills me with joy, a real feel-good race.
mugello 2019. one i revisit a lot. i just love petrucci, but there's tons of action all the way through! the last few laps are TENSE, suzuki was up in contention, and dovi gives a few great moments.
