Second part?? So soon??? No seven month wait or anything??? Lmao
I'm so happy about this <3 Once again the roceit can be seen as platonic or romantic - I've tagged it as platonic for now but if it ever becomes a romantic thing I'll go through and switch out all the tags :)
----
A week passed since Janus met Roman.
The days passed - so slowly it was as though Janus could see the shadow of a sundial creeping around its plate, as every day was when he wasn’t losing himself in the flow of time. He had nothing to fill his day with, nothing that interested him - no tasks to do that took his focus for more than a few hours at a time. He didn’t sleep, nor eat, he was an immortal God - he didn’t need to do such things. He was too tired to go out and seek something to occupy himself with anyway.
Time ticked on as Janus attempted to remember how many days it had been until he gave up, it was too difficult, took too much effort, to track how much time was passing. Instead he just visited the temple every day. Sat hidden in shadows for hours, watching the very few mortals come and go. Most of their prayers asked him to simply leave them alone, asking him not to ruin a special event or interrupt their journeys with dangers and challenges as though Janus was the one to control the evil in this world, as if he could stop bandits and wild animals.
It was his job to maintain the prison of the greater evils, the ones that threatened the destruction of mortals as a whole, of the planet itself. It was his job to keep those evils locked up, not to deal with mortal greed and hatred.
He was supposed to protect the mortals from the deceit they spread themselves. He wasn’t the one spreading the lies they asked him to spare them from. He was supposed to guide them away from the dangers of their own selfishness and selflessness alike, not tempt them into wrongdoing, as they seemed to believe.
It didn't matter. He didn’t pay them much attention anymore.
He was only here to wait for Roman. With every setting of the sun he grew more doubtful that he even wanted to see the mortal again. His company hadn’t been that pleasant before, with his probing questions and annoying conclusions, but at the same time…
Janus enjoyed the mortal’s curiosity, his unabashed intrigue, his courage. His willingness to talk to Janus without being afraid - at least, not by the time he’d left. Roman seemed willing to see him as a person, if he chose to act like one, rather than as a malevolent force responsible for his problems. He couldn’t help but appreciate that grace being offered. The potential for cookies might have helped too.
So he waited.
The clanking of armour was the only reason Janus even looked up from his hidden perch in the shadows. He’d lost track of time again, simply leaning against the wall and watching the clouds roll by, the sky lighten from black and turn a pale, pewter grey, from which it had not changed since. He’d forgotten he was supposed to be waiting, feeling lost and distant as his mind wandered from his body.
That was until the clanking armour and irritatingly familiar voice calling his name dragged him back with a force that was almost physical, knocking the breath out of him - or maybe he hadn’t been breathing, and taking a breath had just made him feel like he’d been punched in the chest. He couldn’t be sure.
He paid no effort to make his entrance dramatic. Someone else might’ve made the winds howl or leaves dance - leave the mortals with a sense of wonder. He didn’t have the energy for such things, so he settled for stepping out of the shadows near his throne as Roman called his name a second time.
“Yes, yes, I’m here,” Janus said when Roman went to call again - not having noticed him - “You can cease your screeching racket, you interrupted my thinking.”
“What were you thinking about?” Roman asked, turning around. He seemed not to be phased by Janus' sudden entrance, nor the scorn in his tone.
“The colour of the sky, I think,” Janus answered genuinely, a real response startled out of him by the question.
“Oh, it’s lovely isn’t it? Such rolling clouds paint a beautiful picture, don’t you think?” Roman’s head tilted and he reminded Janus momentarily of a particularly friendly dog.
“It’s grey,” Janus pointed out, deadpan and almost bemused.
“That doesn’t make it less beautiful?” Roman said, his expression turning to genuine confusion.
Janus simply shrugged, “It’s not beautiful to me.”
With a searching look followed by a soft sigh, Roman shook his head, seemingly done with that conversation topic as he reached into a satchel strapped over his shoulder.
“I believe I promised cookies last time, didn’t I?” Roman asked as though he didn’t know the answer, Janus thought it was a little stupid, but he wasn’t quite sure what mindgames Roman was trying to play, nor how to subvert them, so he simply shrugged.
“That is the only reason I showed up,” He says evenly. This conversation is already trying his patience. If Roman didn’t get to the point soon, Janus might just turn around and leave, talking to the knight was making his head hurt.
“Really? The only reason?” Roman asked, even as he offered a small parchment wrapped bundle wrapped in a yellow ribbon to Janus with an outstretched hand.
Janus took the cookie and unwrapped it, bringing it carefully up to his nose to smell it - one always had to check their food, a habit, formality at most - poison couldn’t kill a God, “Yes, the only reason, what other reason would there possibly be?”
“Oh I don’t know,” Roman said nonchalantly, “Company? Conversation? You know, talking to someone who isn’t actively trying to kill you - is that not nice?”
“Not particularly,” Janus replied, taking a tiny bite of the cookie, it was really nice, perfectly sweet and soft with little half-melted chocolate chips, they must be fresh, “You’re exceedingly annoying, and I actually happen to quite enjoy the attempts on my life.”
Roman sighed, seeming at least a little put out by Janus’ words. Good, maybe then the mortal would leave soon.
“Is the cookie at least good?” He asks, giving Janus an indecipherable look.
“No,” Janus lied, taking a larger bite, “It’s awful.”
“Then why are you still eating it?” Roman asked, that stupid smug smirk back on his face again. Janus practically growled as he shoved the rest of the cookie into his mouth.
“I don’t like you,” He said bluntly once he was done with picking the crumbs from his gloves, “You are like an irritating little bug that won’t leave me alone.”
“Well now that’s just rude,” Roman said, crossing his arms, “And completely uncalled for, I just gave you a cookie, I would give you more, if you decide at some point to stop being an ass.”
For a moment that dragged on for long enough that time itself started to feel like sandpaper against Janus’ skin, he simply stared at Roman. He thought that the mortal had been brave before, but no-one had ever called him names or openly taunted him to his face. It was strange how it didn’t make him angry as he felt like it should, instead it just fed the (very tiny) ball of fondness towards Roman in his chest. A little ball that no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t quite squash. Part of him wanted to apologise.
“I don’t have to answer to you,” Janus huffed instead, turning up his nose, “ Mortal .”
“Fine,” Roman said, putting the package that Janus was sure contained more cookies back into his satchel, Janus already felt his resolve begin to crumble, “If you keep on insulting me then I’ll be on my way.”
Roman bowed to him - which no-one ever did, even after they failed to kill him - with a flourish before turning to walk away. Janus felt his heart break with every step the mortal took, though he knew it was his own fault that Roman was leaving. He’d pushed the mortal away, he’d done it on purpose. He’d wanted Roman to leave, why didn’t he want the same thing now that he was getting it?
Just as Roman reached the staircase - each footstep sounding like a thunderclap to Janus though they’d be near silent to anyone else - Janus felt a rushing wave of emotion overtake his chest with such force that he almost stepped backwards. A tightening feeling around his lungs that made his breath quicken, eyes wide, hands clench. He didn’t know what it was, he hadn’t felt such a strong emotion for years and years, that in itself was terrifying, but not as terrifying as the idea of Roman leaving for good. Like he had wanted might he add.
“Wait,” Janus said, well aware that his voice sounded pathetic. He probably looked at it too, standing alone in front of his uncomfortable throne in robes that felt too big and like not enough to cover him at the same time, somehow.
“Yes?” Roman said, turning around with a sweet smile. The little shit! Janus thought. He’d planned this! He’d known somehow that Janus would call him back - was that why he’d been walking so slowly? Janus wanted to kill him and hug him at the same time. Of course, he did neither and continued to stand there like the worthless chunk of immortality he was.
“I would… rather you didn’t go,” He said, voice pained, he hated to admit such a thing. Roman just smiled that infuriatingly knowing smile of his.
“Will you continue to insult me if I stay?” He asked, taking a few steps closer to Janus - away from the entrance.
“I will… do my best to refrain,” Janus says slowly, knowing he can’t outright promise such a thing. Centuries have made him bitter, after all, it was difficult not to insult anything that moved.
“Then I’ll stay,” Roman said, walking over and seating himself in Janus’ throne. An act that surprised him, though he felt maybe he should stop being so shocked at Roman’s actions as he was offered another cookie. He took it gratefully. Roman shifted in the chair, nose wrinkling.
“Next time,” Roman said, turning to look at him, “I’m going to bring you a cushion.”

Someone Like You - Chapter 4
Chapter 1 | chapter 2 | chapter 3 | next
Summary: the inevitable clush between the two ex-friends.
Pairings: roceit
Warnings: disability, public humiliation, painful history, angst. I think that's it but let me know if I missed anything.
Word count: 1,183
It's that time of the week again folks! And this time I bring you the first chapter that was written by me only! Hope you all enjoy^^ @prince-rowan-of-the-forest
"That's a terrible idea." Janus deadpanned as Roman finished telling him his next idea for their project.
It was a few days after he… after they toured the potential places of filming their little film.
"What? Why? We can't film it with just the both of us! We need a crew!" Roman protested.
"A different crew, then." Janus said stubbornly.
"Oh c'mon, what's wrong with my friends?" Roman folded his arms over his chest, waiting for Janus' answer.
"I… They don't know anything about film-making." Janus tried to come up with an excuse. Roman might treat him nicely for some unknown reason Janus is still trying to figure out, but that doesn't say anything about the rest of his friends. And.. of course there's um… There's Virgil.
So, obviously Janus can't work with them, he does not have the energy to deal with what that entailed.
"Yes they do! I promise, plus they're really nice and great people… Well, Logan can be a bit stiff but he does have a good heart." Roman continued insisting.
"Just… no, okay?" For fuck's sake that sounded so pathetic, what's wrong with him? Well… besides the obvious.
There was a beat of silence in which Janus could feel Roman's gaze studying him.
"What's your problem with my friends? You don't even know them. I promise they won't judge if that's what you're worried about." Roman said again, though much softer this time.
"I just… I prefer to avoid meeting new people." He settled on, eventually. Which was half truth, true, he hated meeting new people. But, unfortunately, Virgil is far from 'new people'.
"Ohhh I see." Roman said, and Janus let out a sigh of relief. "I'll help you then!" Roman said immediately after, dragging Janus away from the lockers before he processed what was happening.
"What? No! Roman! Let go of me!" He almost dropped his cane from the surprise-dragging, left leg aching as he struggled to keep up and free himself from Roman's grip.
Someone must have walked towards them in Janus' blindspot and bumped straight into him, making him lose his balance and fall painfully on his behind. He heard some faint chuckles and his cheeks burned in embarrassment.
He lost his cane during the fall and attempted to crawl towards it when he saw a hand in front of his face.
"Janus! Oh gosh I'm so sorry… Are you okay? Can I help y-" Roman said distressingly above him.
"I think…" Janus cut him off, "you've helped enough" he hissed at him, finally reaching his cane and using it to help him get back on his feet without Roman's help.
Roman looked down in shame, "right… sorry, I just thought you'll see him coming your way and-" he tried to explain himself but Janus was already walking away, trying to ignore the laughter that followed him.
"O-okay… see you after school for our project okay?!" He shouted over the rackous in the hallway but Janus didn't grace him with a response.
Despite not answering Roman about whether or not they'll be meeting after school, he still found him waiting for him outside of his last class. He would have loved to ignore him and go home but they still had a project to finish and he did not feel like failing this class.
Roman bit his lip, "listen, about earlier-"
"Just forget about it, what are we doing today?" Janus cut off his less-than-genuine-apology.
Roman sighed, seeming to have expected this reaction, "...if that's what you want… I thought we could work on our costumes today but…" he hesitated.
"But what?"
"Well, as much as I hate to admit it, Virgil is way better than me when it comes to sewing… but I know you two have a history so… I guess we'll do our best with my skills." He laughed awkwardly.
Janus huffed, "how bad can it be?"
"Um… sewing-my-hand-into-the-fabric kind of bad?"
Janus swore under his breath, heart aching in his chest as he realized there's not going to be any way around it. Life just keeps being oh so kind to him. "Fine… whatever, let's go to Virgil's and get this over with."
Roman smiled in relief, "oh good, I'm sure this won't be awkward at all!" Janus would have said that sentence with a lot more sarcasm but Roman seems to really mean it, ignorance is bliss I guess.
"Oh, Roman, what's up man?" Virgil said in surprise when he opened the door, "...and Janus… long time no see?" He rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly as he noticed his ex-friend at the doorway as well.
"I don't want to be here anymore than you want me here, trust me." Was all Janus said as he walked inside after Roman.
"...good to see you too." Virgil sighed, closing the door behind them. "Roman, what did we say about springing upon me human interaction without warning? Texting is not very complicated, you know." He said tiredly, leading them to his room.
"Sorry, Virge, it was kind of last minute and I forgot to notify you, we won't be long though, just need your help with our English project." Roman apologized, Janus staying silent beside him, trying his best to sink into the floor but not really succeeding.
"Oh, the Macbeth one? What do you need me for?" Virgil asked, walking to sit on his bed.
Janus tried readlly really hard to ignore the pinch of nostalgia this place brought, Virgil's room especially… he does not cherish those memories at all… in case you were wondering. He knows now it was all fake, Virgil was just his friend as long as he was his only option, once he got more, he was more than happy to ditch him for those…. Not that Janus cared, alone suited him just fine.
"...what do you think, Janus?"
He was suddenly aware of everyone's eyes on him and he realized he spaced out without noticing. "Um… it's great!" He hoped that fit with the question Roman asked him.
Roman and Virgil exchanged looks, "ah… we asked if it was okay if I measured you guys before I start working on Roman's designs? Are you okay?" Virgil said, frowning at him.
Janus huffed in annoyance, "like you care… and yes, fine, whatever, just make it quick."
Virgil rolled his eyes, "of course, wouldn't want to make you suffer in my company for more than necessary."
"Aw c'mon, Virge, he didn't mean that-"
"Yes, that'll be appreciated, thank you." Janus agreed.
"Janus!" Roman protested.
"I don't know what's your issue with me, I never ditched anyone to hang with the more popular kids the first chance I got. Virgil on the other hand…" Janus spat, watching Virgil's gaze turn downward.
"That's not what happened, and you know it." He said quietly.
Janus gripped his cane and turned to face the door, "keep telling yourself that." He opened the door and made to leave.
"Wait! What about-"
"I'll measure myself at home and send it to you, goodbye." And he walked away without another word.

× Summary:
"If I betray you, I betray myself. But I cannot risk betraying them, my organization is very dear to me."
"Dearer than I?..." Roman murmured his grip on Janus' hand loosening gradually. He let go, stepping back. A pained expression covered his face as he lowered his gaze.
Janus looked away, "Yes, dearer than you.". It was a lie. But he cannot bare to say the truth to Roman, he can't. So Janus lied like he always does.
A young man sat by his desk, his medium-length blond hair left untied as it flowed elegantly down his back, his eyes scanning the parchment paper in his hands with utmost focus. It was a letter from his higher-up. About a special mission tasked for him only. The man's amber eyes drifted on each word written with ink on the parchment, his expression remained stoic and focused.
« Dear Mister Janus Silverthorne,
It has come to our attention that you have displayed your outstanding skills within the field. So we have sent you a letter, regarding an important assignment to be done. This assignment is of vital importance to our organization. This mission is entrusted solely to you and you only, so we hope you understand your responsibilities and will not take this assignment lightly. Please follow every detail carefully.
You are tasked to execute the crown prince of Ruisite, Prince Roman Estrelle. As the heir to the throne, Prince Roman poses a significant threat to our interests. It is imperative that he is to be eliminated discreetly and swiftly. Along with this letter, we have sent an enclosed dossier which contains all the necessary information about the prince's whereabouts, routines, and potential vulnerabilities. It also includes further instructions and information that you will need. Study it carefully and devise a well-thought-out plan.
If you succeed in carrying out this mission, you will be rewarded with your own land, an astronomical sum of money, and be promoted to a higher position. But if you do fail, you will face grave repercussions and lose everything you possess. Do remember that our organization does not tolerate failures. And there's no turning back once we make a decision. Your job will depend on your discretion and ability to carry it out without being detected. We expect you to succeed in this mission and bring glory to yourself, and bring honor to our organization. Best of luck, Janus.
Sincerely,
The New Order »
Janus set the parchment paper aside before grabbing the dossier that was also sent to him with the letter. He untied the string that bound the file together and opened it. His fingers skimmed over the information as he read through it carefully, skimming through the details about the prince that were given to him. He glances at the small photograph that was clipped to it and took a closer look. The crown prince had tanned skin, hazel eyes, a chiseled jaw, and reddish-brown hair. He looked like what you would expect a royal would be. Janus admits the prince was a handsome man. Pity he would not live soon. He then looks at the prince's possible schedule, already planning his first move.
---
"Good Afternoon, Sir. Welcome to The Nightingale Inn, are you perhaps Mister Janus Cassidy?" The young bellboy greeted with a friendly tone as he bowed slightly at Janus. Janus hums, flicking his hair. He was disguising himself as an only son of a baron from a neighboring kingdom, who is taking a supposed "vacation" in Ruisite.
Janus nodded with a courteous smile, playing the part of the baron's son effortlessly. "Indeed, I am Janus Cassidy," he replied, adopting the alias he had carefully crafted for this mission. The bellboy extended a hand to take Janus's bag. "Allow me to assist you with your belongings, sir. The finest suite in the inn has been prepared for your stay. If there is anything you require during your time here, please do not hesitate to ask."
"Thank you," Janus said, handing over his bag. "I appreciate your attentiveness. I expect my stay to be pleasant and peaceful.". The bellboy led Janus to his room, a lavishly decorated suite befitting someone of noble status. Janus made sure to maintain his act as he chatted casually with the bell boy, asking about the inn and the local attractions to blend in seamlessly.
Once inside his room, Janus closed the door behind him, his expression turning serious. He took a moment to assess the suite for any hidden threats or surveillance devices. Satisfied that he was alone, he retrieved the dossier and laid it on the desk. Studying the information meticulously, he began formulating his plan to get close to Prince Roman. The dossier revealed that the prince would be visiting the tavern connected to this inn he was staying in, said tavern only allows guests of nobility. But accessing it wouldn't be a problem for him.
Janus' eyes wandered around the lavishly designed tavern, looking for a particular person. He had just arrived at the tavern and he was trying to find where the crown prince was among the crowds of high-ranked individuals, waiting for the right time to initiate his plan.
Janus began to walk around the tavern, examining everyone in there with a watchful eye while he tried not to mingle with any one of them, keeping a low profile. He took a sip from his wine, his eyes landing on a man sitting on the table across from him. His features were sharp and beautiful, his reddish-brown hair curled softly and falling gently around his face. It was no one other than his target, Prince Roman. The heir to the throne was sitting next to another gentleman, both seemingly engrossed in a conversation. Janus smirked at himself as he places his wine glass down on a nearby table, looks like his plan is about to start.
"While I was headed back here from my trip, I found this fascinating creature. Its beauty was no other, it looked exceptional! A rare sight, indeed" Roman exclaimed happily at his friend, who was seated opposite him. The gentleman looked up at the crown prince with mild interest, nodding slowly, his blue eyes watching intently. "Do you perhaps know what kind of creature it was? It should be studied.".
Roman sighs as he leaned back on his seat, clasping his hands behind his head. "Like what I have told you, I do not know! What I do know is it looked like it was straight out of a fairytale, I tell ya! It—". Before he could even finish his sentence, they heard loud and aggressive footsteps heading toward the two of them, causing the prince and his friend to look up.
"You are a liar, Ferdinand! How dare you betray like that. Here, you can take these useless jewels and leave me alone!" A blond exclaimed angrily as he slammed pieces of jewelry on Roman's table, glaring at the prince for a slight moment, and immediately stormed off before Roman could even say anything. The commotion that the blond man caused had caught the attention of a few people near the crown prince's table.
Roman looked dumbfounded like someone had given him a difficult equation to solve. He turned to look at his friend, who also had confusion etched on his face. "Do you know that gentleman?" asked Roman. His friend shooked his head, perplexed. "I have no idea. I thought you knew him.". Roman frowned deeply, thinking deeply. "No. He must have mistaken me for someone else.". A servant then arrived with their orders, Roman decided to question him about that peculiar man.
"Who was that man?"
The servant looked at him, surprised, but answered nonetheless. "He is Mister Janus Cassidy, a son of a baron from a neighboring kingdom," he says simply. Roman furrowed his eyebrows slightly, thinking about the name 'Janus.' It sounded familiar. He smiles politely at the servant before dismissing him. Now, he has to find out who this Janus fellow is.
---
A knock came on Janus' door just as he had expected. "Just a moment!" He smiles and fixes his hair slightly, wanting to look good, before heading to the door to open it. Standing on the other side was no other than Prince Roman himself, he was clutching the jewelry that Janus had left on his table. It seems that his plan is going well.
"Hello, Sir. But you got the wrong man. My name is not Ferdinand and I certainly have not seen you before." Roman stated with a small frown, crossing his arms. Roman is taller than Janus by a few inches; however, the height doesn't intimidate him in any way. Janus merely smiled as he stood his ground, raising an eyebrow challengingly. "I know.".
"Wouldn't you like to come in, Prince Roman?" Janus smiles up at him sweetly, acting with faux innocence before opening the door wider. Roman's eyes widened at his words, face etched with confusion and shock. "W-wait, you know who I am?" he queries, bewildered. Janus chuckles in amusement.
"Why of course! Only a fool would not recognize a handsome and dashing prince such as you, Prince Roman. And I thought I was feeling rather bold and wanted to make the acquaintance of the distinguished Prince Roman Estrelle." Janus replies, tilting his head slightly. His eyes scanned Roman's form again, noticing the way pink had dusted the prince's cheeks. Oh, he was flustered. How adorable. "Well, how could you be so sure that I'm the right prince and not a con man? I could have run off with your jewels." The heir questioned.
“I took the risk. And besides, those jewels are insured.” Janus chuckles softly, his amber eyes sparkling with mischief. “Oh, and I had a hunch that you are not just any ordinary con man. Besides, I believe it’s rare for a con man to look as captivating as you, Prince Roman.” He flashed a playful smile, adding a touch of charm to his words.
Roman raised an eyebrow followed by an amused smile, intrigued by Janus’s boldness and charm. “You have quite the audacity to approach a prince so casually. Not many would dare to do so,” he remarked, a hint of curiosity in his voice.
Janus leaned in slightly, his amber eyes locking with Roman’s hazel ones. “Oh, I have a penchant for taking risks. Life would be quite dull without it, don’t you agree Prince Roman?”. “And I wanted to meet you, and perhaps spend some time together. You see, I have a weakness for charming and intriguing individuals like yourself.”. The prince’s cheeks flushed a deeper shade of pink, feeling rather overwhelmed by all of Janus' sweet words.
“Are you angry at me, your highness?” Janus queries, batting his eyelashes at Roman.
The crown prince immediately shook his head in disagreement, before responding with a soft chuckle. “Oh no no, I’m not angry. Just, flattered by all your compliments. You are quite the charmer, Lord Janus.”. Janus merely smiles at him.
“If fate itself brought me this stunning man before me, then I suppose I cannot decline such an opportunity to dine with him. Would you do the honor to join me for dinner this evening, my lord?" Roman says smoothly, reaching for Janus' hand before pressing a gentle kiss on his knuckles. Janus accepts the offer, a smirk gracing his lips. "That would be an honor, your highness.".
"Roman. No need for formalities."
"Well Roman, I am expecting that I shall enjoy my time with you this evening."
"So do I, Janus."
---
"Apologies if I am late, I was busy mingling with the guests and I had a difficult time finding my way out,"
Janus immediately turned his head as soon as he heard that familiar voice. Roman stood there at the opening of the balcony with a lopsided and sheepish smile, slowly approaching. Janus gives him a small smile before turning back to look at the vast, ebony skies with stars that twinkled like no other as the cold breeze hit his face.
"No need to apologize, you are a busy man after all." He hums softly, taking a sip from his wine glass. Roman stares at him, lovingly, before moving to stand beside him. His stare did not falter for a few minutes, the crown prince's eyes fixated upon the beautiful man next to him. A smile forms on his lips once more, now turning his gaze away from Janus towards the night sky.
"They are like diamonds, no? They adorn the night sky so perfectly. It's utterly breathtaking and beautiful..." Roman whispered in awe, then glancing at Janus once more. Janus' face was completely void of emotion, his eyes focused on the stars above, a light pink dusting the bridge of his nose and the apples of his cheeks. His long lashes cast shadows on his cheeks as he stared into the night sky solemnly.
Roman chuckles softly which snaps Janus from the trance-like state he was momentarily stuck on. Janus turns to him with a raised brow, looking at him with skepticism. "What are you chuckling on about, Roman?" he queries. The prince waves his question off and faces forward, a smile still gracing his lips. "Nothing at all.". Janus scoffs and rolls his eyes but there is no malice in them. They both stood in silence side by side as they watched the sky, their hands brushing every so often.
Suddenly, a shooting star appeared in the sky, quickly passing over their heads. Roman gasps loudly, pointing at it as it disappeared into the dark clouds. "Look a shooting star! Did you make a wish?" he turns to look at Janus with bright eyes. The other shook his head softly, "I didn't have time.". Roman frowns slightly, saddened by Janus' answer before turning back to the night sky.
"Do you have something to wish for, Janus?"
"Yes..."
Roman questions softly, "What is it that you wanted to wish?". Janus looks at him and smiles, it was not one of his mischievous and teasing smiles, it was something sincere and serene. "It's secret.".
Roman chuckled lightly, "Secrets always intrigue me.". "Well then, my prince, may I ask you a favor?" Janus asks, looking intently into Roman's eyes. "Of course. Ask away, dearest," Roman responds, looking down at him, his curiosity piqued. Janus reaches and cups the prince's cheeks, before leaning closer, their faces merely inches apart.
"Will you grant my wish and kiss me?" He whispers, his breath tickling Roman's lips. The crown prince's eyes were blown wide and a dark red blush burned onto his cheeks. He could feel his heart skip a beat or two, the other's favor catching him off guard.
"Yes." He whispers.
"Then grant my request, please," Janus replies. With a shaky breath, Roman leans in and presses their lips together, his fingers gripping Janus' waist tightly. The kiss ignited a fire within the both of them, something odd yet it felt almost familiar.
Janus swiftly took out a small dagger hidden from a secret compartment of his clothes without Roman ever noticing it, before pulling Roman closer, urging him to deepen the kiss. The prince complied cluelessly, tilting his head for a better angle and deepening their kiss even more. Janus loosely draped his hands around Roman's neck, holding him closer to his body, his dagger ready to plunge it into the prince's back at any given moment.
He waited, he waited for himself to dig the dagger into the other's back, but he never did. He couldn't just stab Roman for some reason. Janus was annoyed, how could he waste a perfect opportunity like this? Oh but his heart, his heart cried out and pleaded for him to not do it, that this was something he had long craved. He tried to push those feelings away but it did not work, the dagger stayed in place. It was as though Janus was being drawn by force, compelled. What has gotten into him!? This was not professional of him, this is a mission that should be completed. Had he... had he gone soft for this prince?
Janus pulled away from the kiss and he could feel his knees start to buckle beneath him, he quickly leaned on the railing of the balcony for support as he subtly throws his dagger over the balcony before Roman could see it. As he stood back up straight again, he looked at Roman who was staring at him with concern.
"Janus.. is everything alright?" Roman asked gently. Janus looked at him before shooting him a fake sweet smile, "Everything is fine, dear Roman. It's the wine, I might have consumed too much of it." he explains, feigning a light chuckle. Roman narrowed his eyes at him, a concerned look on his face but he didn't question him any further. "I'll call a carriage to escort you back to the inn. Let's go." He says before gently grabbing Janus' wrist and pulling him along inside the palace.
---
"Oh, you idiot! How can you not do such a simple assignment!?" Janus exclaimed to himself as he pushed all of his things off the desk in annoyance. He began to pace and forth in the middle of his room, raking his hand through his tousled blond locks in utter frustration, having the strong urge to scream. Why couldn't he do this simple assignment?! Why did he let himself get attached to his target!? He had gone too soft. It was foolish.
He stopped in front of a mirror, gazing at his own reflection. His once perfectly styled hair was messy and tousled, making Janus sigh deeply and run his fingers through the strands of his hair, trying to tame his wild mess. He needed to calm down, think straight, and avoid further distractions. He was a ruthless assassin, he had killed many for all of his years in service to the organization, executing Roman would barely be any difficulty to him. The prince was quite a fool, he let his emotions control him more than his head. He was so naive, so easy to manipulate.
He had already fallen into Janus' trap.
But everything seemed to backfire back to Janus. He was letting himself be swayed by Roman, getting himself swept off his feet by the ever-so-charming prince. And the worst part is he knows that this will only make things harder, his feelings are already starting to get in his way, and it was frustrating.
Janus was immediately snapped out of his thoughts when he heard a knock on his door. He looked back at the mirror and his reflectiquickly fixing his messy blonde hair and smoothing out his wrinkly shirt before walking to open the door. "Alright! Please wait for a second!" he exclaimed as the knock continued on. He sighs heavily, opening the door widely. As soon as he opened the door, he was greeted by the presence of an all too familiar older man in a fine suit, a chill suddenly running down Janus' spine.
"Greetings, Mister Silverthorne." The older man said followed by a smile, though that smile was anything but genuine. Janus knew this man was not here to just chit chat. "How has your mission been going so far?".
Janus stepped aside as he let his superior, keeping his head down. "It has been doing well, sir. The prince is already wrapped around my fingers," he answered as truthfully as he can.
"Hm. Then why is that insolent prince still alive, Janus?" The older man asked, turning his head to look at Janus with those cold grey eyes. "Don't tell me you have grown attached? Is that the reason, dear?" he queries, causing Janus to stiffen slightly.
"...No," Janus answers simply, keeping eye contact with the elder. "I have not been attached to him. I have already made attempts in assassinating him, the crown prince will be dealt with swiftly." his voice remained steady as he keep his gaze on the older man. The older man's calculating gaze bore into Janus, seemingly dissecting every word. "Very well," he finally conceded. "But remember Janus, sentimentality has no place in our line of work.". Janus nodded curtly, concealing the storm of emotions beneath his composed façade. "Of course, sir. I understand."
His superior's stern expression softened slightly. "Good. Do not allow distractions to jeopardize the mission. Eliminate the prince as soon as possible. Do not mess this up, the organization relies on you greatly." Janus bowed his head slightly, acknowledging the directive. "I will ensure the mission's success."
As his superior departed, leaving behind an atmosphere laden with tension, Janus closed the door, leaning against it and exhaling a long breath. He sighed once more, slowly moving away from the door, walking back to his desk, and sitting down on his chair again. He stared ahead blankly, taking in deep breaths.
He needed to kill Roman.
---
Janus was already packing all of his belongings in his suitcase, no other evidence of his presence in that inn be left behind. His mind was racing, he needed to move fast, and now. If he doesn't kill Prince Roman soon, the organization will come after him, if not worse. He slipped on his black coat and reached for the gun sitting on the table, it was a handheld weaponry given to him by the organization. And he was going to use it to execute Roman. His beloved Roman.
Just as soon as he finishes packing up his things, the door suddenly bursts open and Roman was running up to him already. "Janus, I heard you were leaving early. Why didn't you tell me?" he queries with furrowed brows, a worried look etched on his beautiful face. Janus chuckled humorlessly. "I don't need to tell you anything, Prince Roman," he said bitterly, avoiding Roman's intense gaze.
Roman frowned and grabbed his arm softly. "Please don't leave, Janus. I'm willing to give you anything you desire. I will offer the three things that I value greatly; my heart, my dreams, my life." He pleaded, squeezing his arm reassuringly. Janus shook his head, looking away from him. "You are too generous but I want none of that," Janus stated plainly. There was a pregnant pause between them.
"Ever since I met you, you have completely turned my life upside down. You brightened my days that used to be dull, you brought the thrill that I crave." Roman exclaimed with such passion, grabbing Janus' chin gently to make the other look at him. "My heart beats only for you, I would not live without you by my side.".
"Enough! I do not want to hear those words any further, Roman. We are two worlds apart, we do not fit together! I am nothing compared to you, I do not deserve your love!" Janus shouted, pushing Roman away from him as hard as he possibly could, holding back the tears that threatened to spill out of his eyes.
Roman remained still, unfazed as he stared at Janus with sorrowful eyes. "I know, Janus.". Janus froze and stared back with wide-eyed disbelief. He stared in complete shock. Did this mean...? "What..." Janus trailed, unable to form any coherent sentences. Roman smiled sadly. "I know who you actually are, where you are from, and what you are here for. After the commotion you made that day, I had my right-hand man look into your past.". Janus flinched, backing away a bit. Roman took a few steps forward to reach Janus.
"Then how can you still trust me?!"
"Because I love you! And we both know you love me as well!" Roman exclaimed in desperation. Janus scoffed as he shook his head before turning to look back at Roman. "You are quite wrong with that. I never loved you, I was only using you." Janus stated while glaring coldly at the other male, hoping to intimidate him. But Roman stood tall, staring right back at him.
"You may as well take my heart, Janus. It's already full of you!" he shouted as he went to cup the other male's cheek.
"You are a fool," Janus said bitterly.
"Yes, I am a fool. A fool for your love." Roman answered. "For you, Janus.".
"You say such things as if you have known me all your life. You have only known me for a week, Roman. A week!" he shouted, shaking in anger, pushing Roman away once more but Roman grabbed him by his wrist, forcing him to face him as he kept speaking. "I know. But being with you felt like I have known you ever since. When I heard beautiful music, I always thought 'Janus would like that', and when I see flowers, I always dreamt of giving them to you.".
"Oh stop! I am sent here to kill you! You can't trust me, Roman. You simply cannot." Janus argued with a shake of his head, trying to pull his hand away from Roman. But Roman wouldn't budge, refusing to release him even as his grip got tighter. "I love you! You being here to betray me doesn't make any difference because my heart has already fallen for you." he proclaimed, his tone firm, determined. "I trust you so much that I am willing to give you my life.".
"So please stay, be with me. I can help you escape your organization, I'll make sure they would not harm you. Please, Janus." Roman begged desperation filling his voice. Janus stayed quiet. "No.".
"I knew you were only deceiving me this whole time but I still let you fool me around because I love you, Janus. Whenever we were together, I always thought 'he's just pretending' yet I let you pretend. I fell so deeply in love with you, my darling Janus." Janus winced, closing his eyes and shaking his head as he heard the last words from Roman's lips.
"Say more of those words then I wouldn't hesitate to shoot you with this gun in my hand." Janus threatened as he raises the gun and points it at the prince's chest. A sad smile appears across Roman's lips and his eyes soften slightly as he says:
"Do it, shoot me. But remember, your days will be dark and dull without me by your side. When you stare at the stars at night, you will only yearn for me but there will be an empty space by your side like the aching hole in your heart." Roman stated sincerely, his voice quivering slightly. Janus clenched his jaw and clenched the gun tightly. "How can you still say those words to me while being held at gunpoint? Such a childish and foolish act." he scoffs.
"Because I love you, Janus..."
Then Janus pulled the trigger. The sound of the gunshot echoed through the room and Roman collapsed onto the ground, clutching the place where he was shot. He looked up at Janus, before smiling softly. "I love you.".
Janus stared down at him, frozen. He had done it. A soft sob escaped his lips as he stared at Roman whose eyes bore into his own. He shook his head and immediately stuffed his gun in his suitcase before quickly exiting his room through the window without looking back at Roman, pained to look at the man he loved.
"Virgil! Help me up here..." Roman choked out as he tried to stand up, he was already losing blood. His right-hand man rushed over, quickly assisting him towards the couch. He settled Roman's body onto the couch, "Oh I knew you shouldn't have gone here." Virgil said worriedly as he checked Roman's injury. Roman shook his head, insisting, "I'm alright.".
"We should contact the—" but before Virgil could even finish his sentence, Roman stopped him.
"N-no. Let him go."
"But sire—"
"That's an order." Roman interrupted him, his voice was stern and commanding. Virgil's face softened slightly as he sighed in defeat. "Very well, sir.".
Roman stared at where Janus has fled to. His heart ached but he knew he couldn't do anything with it, he loved Janus but he had to let him go eventually. Roman had loved him so much that he had risked his life for him. He wishes that one day, or in another lifetime, they would be two different people.
One who would finally belong to each other.

M - Say something genuinely nice about a ship that you don’t ship (or its shippers, or anything related to you)
I think roceit has a genuinly interesting dynamic, that lets both their characters shine, as well as highlights their flaws. There is potential for growth and understanding between these two characters, even if the dynamic doesn't appeal to me as a shipper

For the ship game:
Dlampr
and
Moxiety
(It's so hard to think of a ship you haven't written yet 😅🤭)
I'm splitting these because the answer to the first one just got so long :D Thank you so much, Nici, for this ask! (The DRLAMP/DLAMPR answer is here.)
Moxiety
Ship It (under the right circumstances)
Definitely only ship it platonically in canonverse/canon-adjacent stories, but it has some interesting romantic potential in human AUs.
What made you ship it? Again, some collaborative writing experiments, honestly :D. Writing a ship is absolutely the best way to get me on board. I didn't ship Roceit, either, until after I started writing Happily Ever After.
What are your favorite things about the ship? Its softness. They're both so emotional and they look out for each other's hearts. (WTIT endcard? What's that?)
Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship? Probably that I usually only see them as platonic. Again… writing it will change everything XD

Summary: After spending most of his teenage years pretending to be something he's not (a girl), then spending his adult life so far pretending to be something else he's not (a clairvoyant), Janus is caught off-guard when he is granted real powers. He is the seer who predicts the kingdom's downfall, as well as its potential salvation. The problem? The kingdom's hero is Roman Erex, Janus's best friend's brother, who... dislikes Janus. A lot. Now Janus is stuck going on a quest to destroy the source of the Dragon Witch's power with a ragtag band of adventurers, which happens to include the prince himself. Janus has the unfortunate task of making sure they all survive. The forest is dangerous. Janus hopes his friends are even more formidable.
My story is genuinely lighter than the CWs make it sound.

fun fact.
for the longest time, roceit was my notp. it was my least favorite ship.
guess what got me to shipping it?
it could be many things. the angst potential, the way the characters interacted, roman getting flustered from janus's incessant flirting.
ignore all of that because it was, in fact, the 11:56 minutes of snitties that showed up on my yt home page.
now, roceit is one of my favorite ships, second only to prinxiety because i'm emotionally attached.
what in thy snake tits is my brain

Sanders sides dance headcanons because uhh yeah why not idk
Remus: twerks and just generally does all the raunchy and/or fad moves (still bustin' out the whip & naenae to this day)
Roman: uhh p much everything, our boi loves them arts after all. But I feel like musical theatre choreo and waltz (for that Disney Prince Elegance) could be his faves. Perhaps also some Latin styles like uh rumba? Salsa? Idk all that much about dance tbh lmao why am I making these hcs I need research for this but we're relying on my personal experience, childhood love of dance-related media, and my recent reread of 'Sesuji o Pin!' so.. yeah
Patton: obvs dad dancing (the sprinkler, the fishing line, all those fun ones) but also line dances and fun fast social dances like Lindy Hop uuuuuhhhh because I say so
Logan: the robot but also smth classy and structured like the waltz idk. Probs also some hiphop, like break-dancing or smth (bc it goes w rap and also he'd appreciate the Physics application)
Janus: tango. Yeah that works. Ik you're imagining like a roceit tango or smth c'mon. Maybe foxtrot? Idk just cool classy smooth ballroom dances with some edge to them - some overlap w Ro & Lo here
Virgil: see this is the tough one. He'd mostly prefer just kinda standing there and nodding his head or smth - yk, the energy-conserving, drink in hand, not-rly-dancing party dance. He doesn't rly know how to dance??? He can headbang or like jump around in a mosh pit maybe but.. choreography?? Uhhhh......
He'd probably be dragged into joining in w the others, especially with dances like Patton's where they're pretty casual/beginner friendly. He doesn't mind (:
Maybe some urban dancing like Lo? Idk
Oh yeah he'd do meme moves actually yeah that works
And maybe he could tango w Janus and Roman idk afsjfkpfpl
They'd all join in on Patton's line dances n stuff
Ro usually acts disgusted by Re's moves (siblings amirite) but also they definitely had a twerk-off one time and it was. V awkward for the others to see lmao
Ig Pat & the twins would dance lotsa swing dance etc together 'cause they have the most energy lol
Catch them swapping partners in & out like my friend & I saw that one group of four do at a swing dance party (they were iconic honestly)
Pat loves the Shim-sham because I say so (it's my swing dance friend's favourite & I also like it v much). He tries teaching the others to varying levels of success lol but it's all for fun and they usually have a good time together
Logan likes to properly study choreography before fully executing it - a side'll teach him a move & he'll go practice it etc for the next time. He needs it to be shown a certain way tho, trying to reverse-mirror it ain't gonna work
Virgil can get kinda nervous/frustrated by some tricky moves, but it's ag in the end
Remus just goes for it man lol he has no fear of potential accidental contortionism he's good to go
Janus manages to bs his way thru dances he hasn't actually learnt, kinda annoying tbh ahem
Ro,, ro will dance anywhere anytime he's the dancing queen okay??
Pat might get a move the wrong way round or miss a step or whatever but it doesn't really matter! As long as they're having a good time and no one's hurt, he's happy to, carefree, just boogie on down

okay so i recently watched the metal family (the english dub) on youtube and i sent my friend a ton of information on it - my thoughts, my theories, etc, and then i thought of a sanders sides related universe for it
technically some things differ, as in the part i wrote glam and chive (who ive assigned to logan and remus) eventually end up together, but whatever
and, because im a whore for attention im going to post here exactly what i rambled about because i was spilling out thoughts that just made my heart beat faster. so basically, the metal family: sanders sides edition
spoilers for the metal family.
basically i was thinking of logan and remus basically as these two characters, with logan as glam/sebastian and remus as chive, and logans parents putting a lot of pressure on him as their only child, and his dad is suffering abuse to so he cant even stick up for logan, and when he does bad he has to put out his arm and roll his sleeve up and his moms hits it repeatedly, and in the show glam doesnt react until he showers bc thats when it stings (until a certain scene where glams dad slaps it so hard he fucking bleeds a lot and starts sobbing and its like part of when he snapped) but thats probably what he does, and obviously the butler also gets mad and snaps on him a lot too, but when he goes to that music exam and gets second place to remus (who he met briefly on the way to the music exam - youll understand this more if you end up watching the series), hes shocked, and as remus walks him home he explains what he did on the guitar, and gives him the bach vinyl and logan squints but takes it anyway, and when he announces he got second he gets scolded, they mock him for who he lost too, and the back vinyl is taken by his mother, hes scolded for thinking he could ever be on par (logan plays the violen btw - he entered the music exam with a violen and its what his mouther abuses him for when he plays wrong or doesnt answer right/right away to note related questions) with bach, and then hes hit with the ruler and sent back to his room, where he plays the bach vinyl thinking it will be bach but then its metal and it sort of awakens something in logan and he sort of snaps
when he runs into remus again remus offers to teach him, steals an amp and guitar from the observatory, and then when he goes home then this is where hes hit until his forearm is literally dripping with blood and hes sobbing, but sort of that unhinged sort of sobbing where hes like :) while sobbing and bleeding, and his mom is saying hes no longer allowed to take walks because he was late, went through the park, ran in a suit, etc, and how logan will be studying with her daily from now on, and through gritted teeth, a sob, and a smile, as he clutches his bloody wrist hes like "yes mother, ill study under you every day. every day. every day." and he and remus had luckily agreed already to meet by the dumpster at midnight, and thats what they start doing
remus teaches him how to play, and logan literally gets no fucking sleep and becomes more and more sleep deprived as hes taught more and more and it makes him more and more manic and unhinged, and he has periods where he fucking snaps and can play the bass super well because hes fueling his anger and his trauma into how aggressively he plays and is actually super good, and eventually he and remus get a gig with these two other bandmates
and that happens to be the day that the way he hides his diary (where he gets out his murderous thoughts over his father, writes about lying to him, and writes down notes for music he wants to make) and his model of the city (which hed spent a lot of time on and cared about a lot and made out of every day things like lightbulbs and pencil shavers and had to keep hidden) were revealed and his mother found them, and she threw it into the trash where logan saw it crumbled as he walked home in the rain, and while his mother is aggressively shouting at him she says something along the lines of "who are you going to choose. your family, or some vagrants!?" and logan sort of snaps, goes wide eyed, and walks the other way, despite the fact its rianing and his mother demands him to come back, and then starst screaming about how if he ever comes back to the door hell never be allowed back inside, and thats where that episode ends
and basically i was thinking that logan leaves, and sort of walks around in his suit with his violen for a while, before he goes back to the alley where he hides his guitar that remus stole for him and his punk clothes, and he grabs them both and sort of mindlessly wanders until he ends up back in front of remuss trailer
when logan shows up remus doesnt realize until he opens the door of his trailer and prepares to leave and logans just standing there staring, utterly soaked, and he craves his neck up when remus walks out and remus is like "holy shit dude, you scared me. its not even midnight here. how long have you been here?" and logan doesnt answer, and hess not used to tocuhing people or being touched gently, but he sort of falls into remus, and collapses against him, and he starts sobbing because he just lost his family, and he left his dad all alone, but ehs finally free from the abuse, and hes so tired and so confused and hes never felt so unsure of his next move but remus just pulls him inside, brings his stuff inside, they step over his sleeping and drunk parent, and remus takes logan to his room (possibly the one he shares with roman ?) and basically just hugs logan as he sobs and cries and eventually passes out against him because hes literally so fucking sleep deprived, and remus takes liberty to change logan out of his sopping wet clothes, but then both of logans arms are covered in scars, some of them still scabbed, and remus is immediately concerned but he decides hell ask about it when logan wakes up, and basically ust goes out and shoplifts some food or steals from his parent to buy shit, and when logan wakes up hes given low quality food that he accepts gratefully, apologizes for showing up unceremoniously and being so informal, but remus just hesitantly wraps an arm around him, and logan accepts it, and remus says its fine while cuddling with him and then again hesitantly asks what happened
and logan sort of goes silent and doesnt talk about it, but clears his throat and asks if its okay he stays here, and theres already three people living in this trailer so he feels bad for asking, but remus just pulls him closer and is like "yeah man! of course you can stay!" because obviously hes not going to tell logan no after what he just pulled, so he lets logan stay, and remus and roman bicker for it a bit when logan uses their small ass bathroom to shower, and by the end remus has basically bribed roman into going along with it
and logan has to adjust to not being a wealthy - althought not spoiled - person anymore, and sometimes he reacts to things on instinct. he breaks something and remus comes up behind him and asks what happened and logan just sort of stares straight ahead, rolls up his sleeve, and sticks out his arm, and remus is like  logan?? and it takes logan a few seconds to snap out of it and he sort of gazes at remus, goes wide eyed, and then apologizes as he brings his arm back in and rolls down his sleeve, and he seems really awkward but also quite relieved, and remus has never hurt him before, but it was just sort of that reactive thing, and that happens to be the day where remus decides to ask what those scars are, and asks to finally treat them properly because he hears logans whimpers and hisses in the shower
he and roman have their fair share of scars from their own shitty drunk parent, so they know pretty damn well how to take care of them, and how to steal bandages and shit, so remus helps clean them out and up while logan sort of quietly tells remus all about his life, why the music exam was such a big deal, and how remus basically changed his life, and how hes still confused and doesnt know if he made the right decision, and remus doesnt respond until the end where he bandages up logans arms and then gently grabs his hand and tells logan that hes safe now, and that being surronded by people who only put you down and more so hurt you isnt good, and that he believes logan made the right decision because hes safe here with them (the twins make sure to keep him guarded from the drunk parent) and roman seconds that from his spot on the bed, and so logan tries to put his past behind him and instead focus on playing music with remus, and playing shows at bars and stuff where they slowly gain a larger and larger fan base, and they make more and more money from the awesome music they play, and eventually use that money to buy their own house
i know its a lot, but just imagine. imagine

i think anaroceit is the least healthy possible ship rn like, they have a ton of shit to work out.
roman stopped being as rude to virgil, but now virgils starting to be rude to him and their relationship wasnt on a good basis anyway
with anxceit, something happened between them (assuming they tolerated each other in the first place) and now they hate each other, yell at each other, and are generally mean to each other.
and with roceit, janus manipulated roman and broke his trust, roman already dislikes janus because he’s supposed to be the villain, he feels betrayed by his friends because of janus, and yeah (not to mention their mutual insults after janus’s name reveal)
anyway im going to go write some hurt/comfort bye

 sanders sides hogwarts au
roman and remus are harry potter, basically
deceit is most Definitely draco malfoy
but smart
and you know what that means it’s drarry time folks
do i mean roceit or dukeceit? uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
i promise to make it logical okay yours truly does not simply ship for shipping’s sake oh no i go ALL THE WAY BABY GET IN MY JEEP LETS GO
logan is hermione duh
virgil and patton at some point single-handedly start a social identity revolution in hogwarts complete with an unofficial House where everyone wears whatever colour they want
that was a field day for deceit, he had a blast from all that social justice tea
reference to steven universe’s off-colours where virgil is a ravenclaw but whenever he puts on the ravenclaw robes they always turn purple instead
patton self identifies as a gryffinpuff :D why gryff? impulsive, chivalrous. why puff? because its patton, that’s why
owo what’s this the Hebridean Black dragon has the same colour scheme as virgil hm
and if the last side really is procrastination, then he’s going to be deceit’s younger brother in gryffindor
virgil x existential crisis is the only valid ship
the one and only @logan-sanders-is-my-binch :D

"Do you really still not get it? I lied." with Roceit? <3
Ships: One-sided Roceit, platonic Prinxiety
Word Count: 774
Warnings: Unsympathetic Janus, yelling in all caps, threats
~
The morning after the trial, Roman was ready to relieve the tension it had created between him and Deceit. He wanted to go back to how things had been going between them—the friendship that was blossoming. It was too beautiful to give up over one decision. Not to mention the warmth Deceit brought to his heart. How flirtatious their conversations had gotten. Roman was in love. It had only been a few weeks since Deceit started paying attention to him, but oh how wonderful those weeks had been. Just thinking about Deceit made Roman blush so much he practically glowed and his heart flutter like a hummingbirds wings.
Roman couldn’t hold back a smile as he made his way to the dark side of the mind, a heart shaped box of chocolates clutched in his hands. He didn’t really want to hold it back anyway, so he wore it proudly, the occasional skip in his step or twirl as he walked down the hallway.
“Deceit!” he called out cheerfully as he came up to the end of the hallway and into the dark sides’ version of the kitchen and living room. The side on his mind had been standing in the kitchen. He turned at the sound of Roman’s voice, surprised to watch him slide into the living room. “Hi! I brought you something!” He held it out, then pulled it back. “Oh, I suppose I should explain why I’m giving it to you before I do.” He walked closer. “I just—I really want to still be friends. I really enjoy your company and I’m sorry I didn’t end up choosing the audition in the end, but I hope that won’t get in the way of… of… something potentially beautiful.” Roman blushed, almost losing himself in dreamy thoughts.
Janus furrowed his brows, looking down at Roman like he was some alien creature. Roman fidgeted under his intense gaze, holding out the box of chocolates once more.
“Are you serious?” he finally spoke.
“Huh?” Roman said.
“God, I knew you were stupid but this…” Janus shook his head, chuckling under his breath. He turned away from Roman.
“D-do you not like chocolate?” Roman asked. “I can get you something else.” Suddenly Janus spun back around, slamming his hand down on the box and knocking it out of Roman’s hands. Roman gasped and jumped back.
“You think I care about you?” Deceit shouted, stepping forward to remain close to Roman, who stared at him with wide, confused eyes. “You really think anything I said was real? You think I meant that crap?”
“Deceit… you’re scaring me,” Roman said, backing up until he was stopped by the back of the couch. He gripped the top with his hands as he leaned away from Janus.
“Good!” Janus yelled. “You should be scared! You’re so stupid! You can’t do anything right!” He grabbed Roman’s shoulders. “You were so easy to manipulate but you’re so good for nothing you fucked that up too!”
“Manipulate?” Roman repeated. Janus rolled his eyes, his grip tightening.
“Do you really still not get it? Do I have to spell it out for you?” he asked. “I. Lied. To. You. To get what I wanted! And I didn’t even get it!”
“So you don’t—“
“No, Roman! I don’t like you! I don’t like your outfit. I don’t care if the others ever listen to you. I don’t think you’re smart or honorable. I wasn’t playfully teasing you. I don’t care about you. I don’t love you!” Janus listed off. “You mean nothing to me! You’re a broken tool! You’re WORTHLESS!”
“De—“
“GET OUT!”
“But—“
“GET OUT BEFORE I LOCK YOU IN A ROOM WITH YOUR BROTHER!” Janus threatened. Roman didn’t hesitate to start running after that. Tears streamed down his cheeks as he almost tripped over his own feet trying to get out of there as fast as possible, not daring to look back.
He didn’t stop running even when he made it to the door of his room. He kept going until he reached Virgil’s, frantically knocking until Virgil opened it, then launching forward and clinging to him before he could even react to Roman’s panicked arrival.
“Whoa, whoa, Princey! What’s going on?” Virgil asked.
“You were right,” Roman sobbed. “You were right about Deceit. He’s evil and I never should’ve listened to him!”
Virgil wasn’t sure what Janus had done to make Roman cry like this, but it didn’t matter. He guided him inside and towards his bed, sitting down with him and letting him cry. And vowing to never let Deceit lay a finger on him again.
