Inspired by @nerdywriter36's post on sluttiest Phantoms and @opera-ghost's post on "Jeremy Stolle heard 'slut' when the director called cut." here are some very slutty Phantoms from non-English language replicas.

In chronological order:

1. Henk Poort, Netherlands, 1993 (w/ Joke de Kruijf)

2. Eiji Akutagawa, Japan, 1994

This is the famous "maneuver" and it lasts approximately 40 seconds.

3. Saulo Vasconcelos, Mexico, 2000 (w/Irrasema Terrazas)

Not his thirstiest moment but do it for the **magic hands**

4. Ethan Freeman, Germany, 2006 (w/Anne Görner)

Sir, you are on stage.

How the German Phantoms do not split their very tight pants every show is a mystery for the ages. You get two of Ethan because he is my comfort Phantom.

5. Dmitri Ermak, Russia, 2016 (w/Tamara Kotova)

No way this list was going to not have at least one Russian. The man looks like he's about to have Christine for dinner.

The German lace rooftop dress

I have never been able to find out if we are talking one or more of this specific dress. I think we are talking at least two. Whereas the original Hamburg rooftop dresses were also made of lace, they were more delicate in look, with very rich and beaded bodice decorations and no black trim. Sometime in the early or mid 1990s one or more new dresses were made, in large for Colby Thomas. This style feature a lace petticoat in white, blue and green, and the whole dress was trimmed with lace and a black trim. The bodice is decorated with symmetric, curved lace trims with rosettas, and the skirt has a defined panier silhouette. In large a more distinct look.

Row 1 shows Colby Thomas in her grand dress, as well as what I think is the same style on u/s Valentina Kozhanova.

Row 2 shows Anne Görner in the same style. But is it the same dress? I think we are talking a remodeled one, possibly with a new lace petticoat and different trims. Anne Görner started out her Essen run in this costume. Some months in they made her a brand new and very different Rooftop costume. Makes sense she first wore a stock costume, then had a new one made, rather than having two brand new and totally different costumes made for her. Middle photo shows the opposite story - Valerie Link in the Hamburg revival originally started out in Anne Görner's new dress. But then they switched her over to the old lace dress. This time most of its ornate bodice decorations was gone, only a new trim around the neckline and two curved row in front can be seen, ending in rosettas at the sides.

Row 3 shows Giulia Nadruz, alternate Christine in the Sao Paulo revival where they were fitted with the German costumes. She wore the dress pretty much as worn by Valerie Link.

Row 4: Same goes for u/s Raquel Paulin in the Sao Paulo revival. To my eye her costume looks identical to the one Giulia Nadruz wore, and thus also Valerie Link.

#lol #'dracula' was published 7 years after the last rewrite story (and i'm not about to do another time change!) #they wouldn't know about dracula but they'd know of lord ruthven from 1819's 'the vampyre' #there are 2 operas on that story! :D #they're both 'der vampyr' and premiered in germany in 1828 #OOOH I KNOW WHAT OPERA WILL BE SHOWING DURING THE ERNEST HALLOWEEN MYSTERY.... ;) #although there are quite a few vampire operas from the 1810s/20s #but this one is based on a book and erik would absolutely love that! :D #'the vampyre' was written for a friend contest along with 'frankenstein' and erik loves that book so i know he'd love this one! #and he'll love 'dracula' when it comes out ;) #christine... not so much #edit: i just remembered that rewrite erik has read 'the vampire's daughter' which is from a deleted leroux poto chapter #book erik thought it was great but rewrite erik thinks it's tacky :/ #little does he know that not all vampire books are like that! ;) #poto rewritten

Re: things mentioned in the Berlin poto post, is stage entertainment still close to bankruptcy or are they financially in the clear now? I'm american and don't really hear much about them unfortunately

I wish I knew more about it. Last I heard - right after they had to cancel the Phantom Paris production due to fire in the theatre - was that in order to survive they were shutting down some of their schools/courses, they sold off sets, closed down theatres, and several hundred people were fired or did not have contracts renewed.

Stage Entertainment is a merge of German Stella Entertainment and Dutch Stage Holding / Endemol, after the former went bankrupt. The new company was called Stage Entertainment. In 2016, around the time of the Paris fire, the press announced that "Over the past financial year, the company posted a €19 million loss due to inefficiency issues and the impact of a few underperforming productions". This is people started whispering about bankruptcy, but it seems the restructuring of the company was successful.

I am not sure how the pandemic affected them. Last I heard they concentrated on their core business, including bigger theatres and fewer productions, and either Disney heavy or creating original content. They have closed on Broadway, and they have of course closed in Russia. In fact, I don't think they have any current productions outside Germany at all these days? Their main shows right now is Tarzan, Lion King, Hercules and Frozen (Disney heavy), Tina Turner and Ku'Damm (own content), and Tanz der Vampire.

With Phantom announced in Berlin the only likely Stage Entertainment theatre candidate would be Theater des Westens - a large, classical theatre with a capasity of 1712 seats. But another show was already announced there. I don't think Stage Entertainment operate any other Berlin theatres big enough to stage replica Phantom. The other that comes to mind, Stage Bluemax, has a capacity of 612.

So a combination of dire financial circumstances and the only likely Berlin theatre already booked... made people, including myself, rule out Stage Entertainment for the Berlin premiere. I always assumed it would be the Restaged Tour or similar opening there. But then - NOTHING materialized at all.

Sometimes I wonder... what if the London office mixed up Andrew Lloyd Webber's Phantom with Deborah Sasson's Phantom? They were in Berlin in 2022...
