Priory of the orange tree
just finished day of fallen night and it resparked my hyper fixation so here’s this
Tané: gods always speak in mysterious riddles
Nayimathun: I just said, “you are enough”
Tané: I may never know what they mean

A mock cover design for fun and to fill up the ol’ portfolio
[ID: a cover design illustration for the priory of the orange tree by samantha shannon. ead and tané are standing back to back, eyes closed and holding a sword in one hand and their respective jewels in the other. a blue dragon encircles them. behind them stands sabran, resting on the sword ascalon. in the lower corners are two ships, appearing to be sailing on dark water. the background behind sabran is yellow and brown, sunlight against dark clouds. in the upper left corner is a castle, and a dark shape in the upper right corner is reminiscent of a wyrm. in the first version of the image the title and author’s name are in the middle of the drawing. the second version is without title or author. /end ID]

my library hold on a day of fallen night just came in and this is such a small detail but I love how the maps have changed a bit from the priory maps, it really makes the world feel lively

I adored this book and this scene lives forever in my mind. I also head cannon Ead to be utterly ripped, what of it?!
This is my first time ever using colour or drawing this style, and well, what a rollercoaster of emotions that was!
I also think I may have inadvertently made Sabran’s features oddly familiar, having drawn another dark haired, green eyed someone too many times…

just finished priory of the orange tree samantha shannon i would pay SO MUCH MONEY to hear you infodump about history and narrative. i have literally never read a book that captured the way history and politics shapes narratives and one that was still hopeful about narrative’s ability to overcome those politics!!!! also gay people!!! and dragons!

Okay, I know so many Priory of the Orange Tree fans hate Niclays, but I actually love him. I love the trope of crotechty old people with backstories, and his relationship with that Lasian woman (I forgot her name, sorry) was so sweet. The man was going through it- his lover died and then so did Truyde, who was practically the old good thing left in his life. I understand why he went a bit crazy

hi i just finished reading priory of the orange tree i know i'm 600 years late to the game but i did it and i'm a great reader. it was so fuckin good the whole time reading i was waiting for the other shoe to drop but i just kept thinking 'wow i can't believe how perfect this novel is' but THEN niclays's ending...all the stuff aleidine said to him...i kind of saw it coming based on what she said the one other time she showed up in the story but jfc. have some fuckin self-respect, lady. that and tané's ending literally being "and she was covered in blood, the end" like i get you can end it on a mystery but that is just??? convoluted?? but ead & sabran's ending was CHEF'S KISS!!!!!!! IT WAS SO GOOD!!!!!!!! ty samantha shannon 😚
