Hear Me Out // Vigilante Tommy [7]
Full story; AO3, Tumblr Parts 1-6
Summary;
Siren’s power couldn’t stop the vigilante Vé. Siren is their ace, the hero tower’s last resort when nobody else can catch someone. But he failed. Siren has failed. And maybe he explained it away by saying that Vé’s mysterious power has something to do with that, but that’s not it.
Vé, in his regular life known as Tommy, is deaf. In a cruel sense of irony, his power is to be able to sense all things around him, including sound- but he can’t quite hear it. When he lost his hearing due to an explosion, he took years to re-learn hearing through his powers. He wasn’t noticed by the media as a vigilante due to how subtle his powers are, but once the public finds out Siren can’t control him, he’s top priority.
OR; Minor vigilante Vé is deaf, and since nobody knew that, when Siren's voice-command powers don't work, everybody assumes he's far more powerful and scary than he is.

Chapter Seven; Oh, A Villain! Can We Keep 'Em, Please?
Ranboo dropped Aimsey's body onto the carpet in Tubbo's living room, taking several steps back. "So, maybe it's just me, but maybe we should take them to the goddamn heroes," Tubbo seethed, dropping down and moving the villain onto his back.
"No!" Ranboo said, next to the couch where Tommy lay. "Uhm, no. Do you have a basement and rope?"
Tubbo's eyes widened. "I'm not keeping a villain in my basement."
"Come on, just this once?" Ranboo frowned, murmuring, "If I can just talk to Aims, maybe they'll..."
Face dropping as Ranboo trailed off, Tubbo's brows raised. "What? Maybe they'll what? Come to their senses? It's fucking Rabbid, Ranboo! You're giving fuckin' Rabbid a nickname!"
"That's not- no, okay, before Aimsey was Rabbid- we were friends!" Ranboo's voice raised as they crossed their arms. "We were like siblings, I mean, we literally lived together, so at least let me say goodbye!" Ranboo huffed, the anger he'd clearly felt for a while coming out and directed at Tubbo. Tubbo scoffed. "You have to be kidding me."
"Says you. You're keeping a priority vigilante on your couch," Ranboo grumbled, motioning to Tommy. "At least I'm suggesting we keep mine in the basement."
Tubbo tried to suppress a tired cackle, failing as he cracked up, staring at Aimsey on the floor. "Why are you talking about them like they're pets we're keeping?"
"I mean... Rabbid did wear a bunny mask."
"Good point. What're we going to feed 'em?" Tubbo asked as he went to the hall closet, grabbing a survival cord instead of rope.
"I heard villains live on a diet of carrots and blood."
Tubbo paused as Ranboo picked Aimsey up, clicking his tongue. "This doesn't mean I don't hate you, by the way. I think this is dumb, and you're dumb too."
Ranboo sighed. "And here I thought we were getting somewhere."
Tommy woke up in the morning. He was still in his vigilante outfit, although the sleeve had torn off for someone to tend to the gash in his shoulder. Sitting up, Tommy winced as his shoulder flared in pain. He felt talking coming from a few rooms down, the layout familiar.
Tubbo's house used to feel more like home than his own, almost as much as Fundy's apartment, but now it felt cold. It was like thinking about a soured memory.
Eyes wandering, Tommy stood up and started making his way to Tubbo's room, where he felt the figures of him and Ranboo hunched over a table.
"The mask is already fixed. I'm sure it's fine. You can ask when Tommy wakes up." Ranboo mumbled, grabbing something off of the table that Tubbo snatched back. Tommy's hand hovered over the handle.
Tubbo shook his head. "He's probably not even going to talk to me. Just tell him about Aimsey, give him his mask, then let him be on his way."
       "Jesus, what even happened?"
Tubbo shrugged and looked away. Tommy rolled his eyes and opened the door, lips in a thin line. The two's heads whipped around, Tubbo wheeling back while Ranboo stood up.
"Tommy! Hey... man." Ranboo tried, then blinked, looking at Tubbo. "He can hear me, right?"
"Yes, Ranboo." Tommy sighed, walking forward to where he saw his now repaired mask on the table. "I can understand you. Can't hear you, but be sure it makes no difference." Tommy shot a look at Tubbo as the boy wilted, sliding down in his chair.
Ranboo caught that it was some sort of jab, but they didn't question it, watching the two of them intently.
Neither of them acknowledged him, maintaining uncomfortable eye contact. Tubbo looked away, dragging his fingernails across the arm of his chair. "Tommy, I'm..." Tubbo stopped, then sat up as he cleared his throat. "I'm sorry, okay? I was angry with you, and I didn't want to be wrong. I was angry because, at the time, it felt like you were lying about being deaf, but obviously it was more than that. I didn't want to admit that I was wrong." Tubbo's hands moved again. 'I'm sorry. I fixed your mask. It doesn't make up for it, I know. I'm sorry.'
Tommy looked away, not quite as upset anymore. He didn't want to forgive Tubbo, after all, an apology would've been more effective sooner.
He picked up the mask, turning it over. It was different- upgraded. He'd known Tubbo to work in an auto shop a year ago, so he assumed it was Tubbo's doing.
There was a small camera on the side, and speakers like Siren's along the bottom. Tommy didn't look up as he addressed Tubbo. "It looks good."
Tubbo stood up quickly, walking over to the mask but keeping a healthy distance between himself and Tommy. "I only had a few hours. My power can melt metal and such, but it's pretty slow so- I mean, I could do more if you'd be fine with that, y'know, because... Well, I don't like that you're being hunted down by the heroes now that I know why Vé's not affected by Siren, and I know Fundy's probably doing his best, but a little more help couldn't hurt, right?"
"If you would, that'd... I'd be fine with that."
Ranboo jolted, alarmed. "Are you plotting crime in front of me right now? Did you forget I'm right here?"
Tommy snickered, putting the mask on and adjusting it as Tubbo glared at the taller. "Oh, please, you're harboring a fugitive."
"Me?" Vé asked. Ranboo made an indifferent noise as Tubbo smiled, motioning for Ranboo to explain.
"Aimsey may or may not be in the basement..."
Vé sucked in a breath. "Oh. That's definitely a crime. Sorry, buddy." Then, as he realized the weight of that, he spun to punch Ranboo in the shoulder. "You brought Rabbid into the basement? Call the heroes, dumbass!"
     "That's what I said!"
Ranboo huffed. "Okay, well, I just want to talk to him, okay? We used to know each other- before xe disappeared. I want to know what happened."
Vé focused, trying to feel the basement. He felt Aimsey's heart in the same slow pace it had been in, but their body was struggling, trying to get out of the binds. Vé's eyes opened as he sighed.
"Well, she's awake now. Here's your chance. After this, we need to call the heroes." Vé decided, motioning for them to leave the room.
Ranboo's heart picked up with nerves, and he ran to the door and down to the basement before either of them could follow. Tubbo shook his head behind Vé, the two walking at a more normal pace.
Aimsey's head whipped up to look at Ranboo as the three entered the smaller room of the basement. It was a laundry room, Aimsey tied to the pipe at the end of the room.
"Oh, lovely, so glad you could make it." They seethed sarcastically. "If you'd be so kind to untie me, we could hug and make up. I'd be on my way. Although I do have to give you my compliments, these binds are incredible! If I didn't know any better, I'd say I'm not the first person you've tied up in your basement."
Vé looked to Ranboo expectantly, but they just stared at Aimsey. "Uhm, that's not... I mean, Aimsey's eyes aren't red. They're brown. Maybe that's an effect of his power, though. Aimsey was powerless before they disappeared, so maybe it's just that, but..." Aimsey raised a challenging brow, looking at Ranboo like he was dumb.
Vé frowned, walking closer to Aimsey as Tubbo made a noise of protest behind him.
Like the day before, there was a low hum of vibrations coming from Aimsey. Before, Vé had assumed it was the bomb- the detonator- but now it was just Aimsey.
He stepped around Aimsey, trying to locate where exactly it was coming from. He stopped down and put his hand on Aimsey's forehead to stop them as they tried to bite him. Vé brushed her hair back and looked at the back of her neck.
A red gem blended into Aimsey's skin, turning the veins around it into a bright red color that shone through the skin.
      "Holy shit..."
Aimsey snarled, ceasing at their attempts to bite Vé. He looked at the vigilante through his bottom lashes. "Your shoulder looks awful. Wonder what did that."
Ignoring them, Vé used his other hand to push on the gem. Aimsey tried harder to struggle against the binds, however useless that was.
"You said Aimsey's eyes weren't red, right? Rabbid doesn't seem to recognize you, either," Vé said, looking over at Ranboo. They nodded, trying to learn to see what Vé was doing. "Alright. Both of you, hold Rabbid still."
Hesitantly, Ranboo held Aimsey's head as Tubbo made sure they couldn't kick. Vé sucked in a breath through his mask. "I'd say I'm sorry in advance, but you're a murderer, so... Brace for impact."
Aimsey lost their cool at that, thrashing as best as they could. Vé grabbed a jagged edge of the gem and, all at once. he yanked on it. The gem ripped at Aimsey's skin, the practically glowing veins vanishing. It left a decent wound in Aimsey's neck, blood spilling over it.
Ranboo slowly released Aimsey's head as they stopped thrashing. Their heart finally broke from a resting rate, their brown eyes hazily glancing over the three of them.
"Ranboo?" Their voice was hardly a whisper. Ranboo's eyes teared up, quickly hugging Aimsey. "Holy shit, Aims, it's... you- oh my God..."
"You have to get Guqqie, get Guqqie." Aimsey pulled at the binds, eyes looking over at Vé. "Where's the others?"
Vé frowned, feeling Aimsey's panic in his increasing heart rate. "What others, Aimsey?"
"Who's Guqqie?" Ranboo looked at Vé too, equally confused.
Aimsey took another look at the basement, eyes wider. "How did you find me?"
"Find you," Tubbo repeated. "We didn't find you, exactly. You were going to blow up the docks, and then you were in front of us, and Ranboo panicked, knocked you out, and here we are."
Swallowing, Aimsey leaned into Ranboo. "Not me. It wasn't me, I don't remember..."
"It's okay." Vé held up the crystal, which Aimsey's eyes locked onto. "Whatever happened to you, it's tied to this. Let's start with what happened the day you disappeared."
Aimsey tried to move, but the survival cord pulled at their hands. Tubbo jolted, quickly going to untie them.
Finally sitting against the wall, Aimsey drew her legs up to her chest. "I don't know the order anymore. I feel like it's a fever dream. I was leaving school, I walked down to the corner store, I was friends with one of the workers. Uhm, I'd never told you, Ran, because it was this older person I knew you'd say was creepy." Aimsey looked away from Ranboo, hand over the wound in their neck.
"I went in, but they weren't at the counter. They came from the back and said they were going to this gathering- that I should come. I followed them, but can't remember where. Some old warehouse, I think?" Aimsey held his fingers to his temples, looking almost in pain thinking about it.
"There were a lot of people there, they all had red eyes, I remember that. They were young. I asked something, and then the doors slammed and I woke up somewhere else. Other people were trapped with me- Guqqie, that's who was right next to me. I hope she's okay..." Aimsey frowned, pulling up their sleeve to show a messy circle stick-and-poke tattoo. "Uhm, we did these together the day before they disappeared during the night."
Vé nodded slowly, putting a slow hand on Aimsey's shoulder. "Do you know what happened to her?"
"No, I guess whatever happened to me? I can't remember much after that. Just panicking, asking the other people if they'd seen what happened. Somebody else, Billzo, disappeared the next night, then... I guess I was next, then."
Tommy sighed. "Thank you, Aimsey. I'm sorry about all this. Are you hungry? Thirsty? Here, let's get you somewhere a little less cold."
Aimsey was asleep in Tubbo's guest bedroom by the time the three sat down in the kitchen. Tubbo broke the still room, vibrations bouncing off in an echo. "What now? Do we tell the heroes what happened? That it wasn't Aimsey?"
Ranboo looked up. "Would that work?"
"Fuck no," Tommy laughed dryly. "The heroes wouldn't believe us. First of all, I'm priority list. Second of all, you've already committed a crime by harboring a fugitive, then giving a very convenient reason as to why they're innocent. It's suspicious. Look, I'll get to the bottom of this. Until I can get some solid proof that this is some conspiracy involving many people, keep Aimsey safe."
"You're not doing this by yourself," Tubbo said sternly, standing up. "I already agreed to help, didn't I? I'll be your guy in the chair."
Ranboo, brows drawn together, nodded slowly. "I want to help, too. Anything to help Aimsey. Plus, they deserve justice."
Lips pursed, Tommy shrugged. "I don't know..."
"Tommy, you don't have a choice. Respectfully." Tubbo leaned over the table. He took in Tommy's unsure expression and pouted. "We'll let you give us your nerdy myth names."
Tommy laughed, looking between the two, eyes landing on Ranboo. "You're not going to panic, are you? You do have a pretty cool power."
"Of course. I'll be mysterious and calm and collected. I've never panicked a day in my life."
"Right," Tubbo mumbled, "That's not why we have a missing person in the guest bedroom."
     "Shut up, loser."
     "I'm stating facts, bitch."
Tommy smiled, shaking his head. "Alright then. Deal. You guys can help, as long as you get your arguing under control."
Tubbo pumped a fist in the air. "Fuck yeah, now I get the cool codename and shit."
Tommy looked to the ceiling, thinking. "You're my 'guy in the chair,' yeah?" Tubbo nodded. "Then how about Heimdall?"
Trying to remember the rambling texts Tommy had sent him about Norse mythology, Tubbo cringed as he guessed, "God of... Surveillance?"
"Sort of, he's more like the eyes and ears of the gods, but yes." Tommy hummed, nodding frantically. Tubbo sighed in relief. "Yeah, that works."
Ranboo waved a hand in the air. "Me next!"
"That's harder, you're doing this for justice? Then what about Týr, god of war? That's a big focus of his-"
"Yes. Yeah, that's cooler than Heimdall, so I'll take it."
Tubbo glared at them. "Shut your fucking mouth."
After a moment of silence, Tubbo cleared his throat. "So... What are we going to do about Aimsey when my aunt gets back from vacation?"

Dark Embrace Powers and Abilities
In this entry, I'd like to go over the powers, abilities, and aspects of the Dark Embrace for Hsien-Ko and Mei-Ling as they are quite a big part of Cryas Darkstalkers lore. To start out with, official ref sheets of their designs to help visualize some things that will be discussed:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
To start things off, 'Dark Embrace' (Xié è De Yōngbào) is a technique known as a 'Burst'. Burst is the term used by beings in the Cryas Chronicles reality in regard to the ability of using stored potential energy in the individual to invoke a power-up in the individual. This power-up can simply be a boost to aspects of the individual's capabilities or manifest in a transformation in the user. For Hsien-Ko and Mei-Ling, the Dark Embrace manifests as a transformation invoked by their Qi, mutated Corriyami, and the 'shadow selves' that were created in them thanks to the mutated Corriyami within. The appearances they take on invoke the looks of beings that would later come to be known as Corrians.
Once both sisters have enough potential energy to initiate the Burst, one sister can trigger the transformation and cause both to transform. Later on, through training they find a way to where only one sister can transform and the other can hold on to their stored energy to tag in later better utilize their stored energy in a strategic manner.
When Hsien-Ko uses the Dark Embrace, her physical strength is bolstered to further heights, allowing her to overpower quite a number of physically powerful individuals in close quarters combat. Not only that, her stamina and endurance are increased to allow her to tank her way through hits with greater ease, allowing her to get into the thick of battle and power on through with great fervor. Another benefit is her healing factor is hastened, allowing her to recover from horrible wounds quicker to allow her to get back into the battle. While it is unknown if Hsien-Ko can regrow body parts while in the Dark Embrace should they be severed, it is theorized that should the limb still be in one piece, she could attach it back and her body could re-attach to the limb. However, neither sister is in a position nor desires to test this theory.

An interesting quirk of the Burst is how Hsien-Ko's sleeves can move and function. While Hsien-Ko has always been able to move her sleeves with manipulating her Qi, in the Dark Embrace they move in ways as if they have a mind of their own. The sisters theorize it is Hsien-Ko's 'shadow self' that takes control of the sleeves during the Burst, allowing Hsien-Ko to more focus on what her body is doing. Because the shadow self is a part of her psyche, it synchronizes better with her movements and makes her quite a dangerous foe to face. Speaking of shadows, if Mei-Ling attaches to Hsien-Ko while in the Dark Embrace, she can call forth the Qi and Corriyami in Hsien-Ko's body in the form of an energy mass that is referred to as a 'shadow'. This mass of energy is able to be manipulated to take on the form of fully functioning limbs, weapons of varying kinds only limited by the imagination, or they can attach to the inner lining of Hsien-Ko's sleeves and drape out to give her 'wings' of sorts. These wings allow for Hsien-Ko to fully be able to fly.
Tumblr media
(Credit: @itsununnusart) Initially, this shadow mass was only able to be called forth by Mei-Ling, but overtime as Hsien-Ko improved her capabilities with the Dark Embrace she eventually found a way to do it herself. This effectively gives her six functioning limbs to work with, making her incredibly dangerous if she is fresh and ready for battle. Another noteworthy aspect of the Dark Embrace, and the mutated Corriyami in general, for Hsien-Ko is how the influence and voice of her inner jiangshi, Xienian, are effectively nullified. However, cautions are still taken to assure she doesn't taste blood in case that still triggers this inner darkness to come forth.
Tumblr media

Mei-Ling, like Hsien-Ko gets a notable increase to her physical capabilities and stamina, able to match up more to her younger sister's base form. However, that pales in comparison to the other profound changes to her. The immediately noticeable feature of Mei-Ling's Dark Embrace is the shadow mass on her. When she initiates the Burst, her arms melt away as the Qi and Corriyami in her body sprout from where her arms used to be. During this Burst, her shadow becomes her arms. These shadow limbs make Mei-Ling an incredible dangerous foe to face down. These limbs are quite powerful as they are able to pulverize bodies, shatter rocks, and even pierce metal. Not only is it strong, but it is very resilient. While it can be cut off, the shadow will grow back fairly quickly from the stub left on Mei-Ling’s body, without causing pain to the jiangshi spirit. Due to their amorphous nature, they can change shape per Mei-Ling's will. Beyond simply taking on the shape of normal arms and hands, they can change size and length per her will. Should she need to, she can change the shadow to take on the form of varying weapons, of which are many thanks to her knowledge as an enthusiastic weapon master. However, one of the most prominently used forms of her shadow is that of a dragon. This 'shadow dragon' is basically a corrupted mirror image of the memory of seeing her mother's dragon form the day she sacrificed herself. It is a cathartic way for not only her mother to still be aiding her in a way, but for this corrupted image to pulverize her foes with great ferocity.

Beyond the shadow, another notable trait of Mei-Ling in the Dark Embrace is the astronomical increase in her magical powers. Not only are her Xianshu arts increased in their potency but so are the many magi artes she learned from her friends and allies in the other reality. So great are her magical capabilities in the Dark Embrace, she is capable of even using the powerful Jrukoshn Aarts with relative ease.

A shared aspects with Hsien-Ko and Mei-Ling in the Dark Embrace is the fact that due to the nature of how they obtained this Burst, both sisters are immune to the Corruption inflicted by Corriyami.
Powerful as the Dark Embrace is, it is not without limitations. Like all Bursts, it requires a certain amount of stored potential energy in the user in order to even make use of the Burst, of which the amount varies between each individual, each Burst, and their skill with the Burst. Once the Burst is active, the user only can only keep the Burst active for as long as there is enough stored energy to fuel the Burst. With practice, the energy consumption can be made more efficient to keep the Burst going longer, but eventually the reserves will run dry. Normally once the pool of energy is gone, the Burst will force the user to deactivate the Burst. However, individuals can force the Burst to break past this limitation and keep it going once the potential energy is gone. However, this is incredibly dangerous as the Burst is then relying on the user's own life forces as a means to fuel the Burst. Should the user recklessly keep this up, it can kill the individual. Hsien-Ko and Mei-Ling nearly had this happen to them in the Void Labyrinth, the Burst only shutting off once they fell unconscious after a great ordeal. Should this happen, individuals can be left in a comatose like state as their bodies try to recover and stabilize their energy.

Incense Burner/Ball and Chain Weapon
This incense burner is wrapped around Tao's waist and tends to spew some of his mist magic at any given time. It acts as both a weapon and storage. It can be used similarly to the ball and chain weapon from twilight princess, but can grow and shrink depending on what Tao needs. Misty spikes appear on the sphere when Tao is using it as a weapon.
Tumblr media
King
A plushie made in Wukong's likeness that Macaque made for Tao when she was little. They told Macaque what clothes he wanted the little guy to wear, after seeing a future vision of baba wearing his more modern outfit. Has several small pocket dimensions inside of him that Tao can go into at any time.

Mainly used in exorcisms and not in actual combat with living beings.
Flight
Loves soaring all on her own. can use his body to propel himself around and even gets help from the wind.
Replication/Shadow Cloning
Makes misty clones that can take on a physical appearance if nessicary.
Telepathic communication/Astral Projection
Has links to Wukong, Macaque, Chun and Zihou, but can easily astral project to anyone so long as they accept.
Flaming Fist of Fury
Strengthened by the Yang Samadhi fire to dangerous levels
Lazer eyes
Has the ability to use this power, but has never done so.
Gold Vision
Capable of using this in it's original state, and an altered version that allows him to see as if he wasn't blind.
Kaiju Form/Smoke Generation
Inherited from both parents (I will go i to more detail about his Kaiju in Macaque's section.)
Powers from Liu Er (Macaque)
Enhanced Hearing
Although Tao only has one extra set of ears, his hearing is still very sensitive.
Shadow Manipulation
Tao's shadows are more fluid-like in appearance compared to Macaque's.
She is capable of calling upon their mother's shadows should he ever find the need to.
Shadow Cloning/Replication
Clones usually take on a misty, cloud-like appearance, but have the ability to turn into identical clones to the original. Shadow clones of Macaque's can also be summoned if needed.
Shadow Transportation
Tao can use this ability easily, and the shadows tend to do most of the work for him. Macaque can sense each time Tao uses the shadows to warp.
Smoke Generation /Kaiju form
A misty form with a stone-like mask and chest plate with all four of the hands being stone as well as some stone bits around her wrists and tail. This form has three alternate forms depending on Tao's mood and the element that corresponds to it.
The Kaiju's base form
Height: Mainly between 120 Meters (394 Feet) and 158 Meters (521 feet), but can shrink to smaller heights. (Imagine the heights between Godzilla in Godzilla vs. Kong and King Ghidorah)
Tumblr media
Fire Form
Uses the Yang half of the Samadhi Fire to further fuel itself. The base form has only parts of Tao's hair, the twin tips of his tail and around his wrists ignite, the same places where his stone parts are excluding the stone mask and chest piece. This differs fron his fiery wrath form, in which the entire body of the kaiju is engulfed in flames, which burn any and all they come in contact with.
Water Form
Uses the primal power of Tao's water abilities to fuel it. This form is rarely used for fighting and more as a method of escape, as it can seemingly 'melt' into any large body of water and vanish. Every time this form appears, heavy monsoon-like rains follow. This form is completely made of water with the exception of the stone bits.
Dual Form
A mix of all three forms and is the most destructive in terms of passive property damage. It has currently never been used, and for good reason. It's power alone rivals the power of the primordeal gods of old. The Yang Samadhi fire is unaffected by the water from this kaiju.
Powers Unique to Tao
• Echolocation
• True Sight (A modified verison of Gold Vision that allows Tao to see as if he wasn't blind)
• Familiar creation, allowed him to summon a unique companion based deeply on his personality. There are currently three. These three count as pokemon in the Pokemon AU I have for Tao.
Yang (Height: 9'2" Feet)
Tumblr media
A fiery ghost dog that has been Tao's friend and companion since they were young. He used to be a living being, a half hellhound. Died protecting his master, and once in the Diyu he became so distraught and enraged over his master still being in danger that he singlehandedly broke out of the Underworld by digging himself out. His flames were so intense at that point that no one could get close without severe casualty to their person, not even the 10 kings. He lost all skin on his paws and head aside from his ears in the act, and successfully escaped to return to his master's side.
He is the only being aside from Wukong that has successfully escaped the Diyu, and since his only goal was to be reunited with his master, the ten kings decided it wasn't worth trying to bring him back. His bays, barks and howls is so intimidating that most sane beings will instinctively flee upon hearing it. He is semi-incorporeal. he consumed his own body as a spirit upon returning to battle and can choose to be more ghost-like or not. Yang often stays in Tao's incense burner/pokeball, or his master's shadow when not needed at that moment. Yang can control his flames to the point that allies will not be burned by them, but instead feel very warm. He's the perfect heater on cold winter days.
Jinjing (Height: 3'5" Feet)
Tumblr media
A spunky fishy fox familiar that has also been with Tao since she was young. She acts like a service animal when Tao goes out and about, since Yang and Li are too big to do so without issue. Yang may be able to phase through walls but his Aura is extremely intimidating even for Erlang's hounds. and Li is far too big to be able to fit comfortably in most places. Jinjing knows DPT, can retrieve Tao's medicine on command, and helps to break them out of anything from a spiraling episode to ADHD paralysis (Not a medical term). Those big blue flowing antennae can act as hands if she really wants to use them. The webbed collar is backwards to help with drag in the water. when she flips it out, it helps slow her down in the water and causes drag. She can also inflate it enough to keep her head above water.
Li Yun (Height: 6'0" Feet)
Tumblr media
The newest of the familiars, Li is the second most intimidating of the them. They can summon lightning storms at will and are capable of absorbing electricity. Their barks can sound for miles, and wherever they step, thunder and lightning are said to follow. They are generally neutral in most affairs and are more reserved than their Fire and Water counterparts. If Li isn't running about and stretching their legs, they're either in Tao's incense burner/their pokeball, patrolling Megaopolis from the rooftops, or by their Master's side.
• Feelers by his ears that allow him to sense the most subtle changes in the atmosphere.
Past/Future Sight
Able to see into the past or future. This ability is very different how his mother Liu Er sees into the past and future. Tao can only see one type of vision at a time. The triggers for both visions are very different and he can only see one type at a time. The inner color of his each represent the past (Purple) and the future (Yellow). When having either vision, his eye swill glow a pearlescent white color, and some kind of sparkling dust matching the color of the inside ear comes out of the corresponding set of ears.
The past visions are usually triggered by physically touching an object that either has a spirit or spiritual energy attached. Places that have a lot of spiritual energy can also trigger a vision the moment Tao finds a high enough concentration of energy. Sometimes he will move around during these visions, coming to in places he didn't pass out in.
Future visions are different with the exception of the glowing eyes and yellow dust. These visions can happen at any time, and leave Tao completely immobile until it ends.
Those who ingest the dust from either set of ears will temporarily gain the ability of future sight or past visions. These only have one use and may drive one mad the more they ingest. Humans and demons from all over sought to capture Tao for his oracle abilities, and to collect the dust he creates during a future vision.
Yang Samadhi Fire
Unlike what has been told about this powerful flame, in reality it was split into two seperate pieces long before the birth of Red Son. Tao possesses the 'Yang Half' of this flame, equally as powerful as the 'Yin' Half Red Son was born with. What is different about this flame is that ist is less likely to be triggered by emotion, but for Tao anger is the only trigger outside of activating the flames himself.
The flame tends to have more untriggered power behind it despite being of equal power to the Yin half. This flame tends to have a higher power output in the spring and summer months in accordance to Yin and Yang. It is a calmer flame compared to the Yin half, which feeds off of the emotions of it's host, and in Red Son and Mei's case makes it harder for the host to control their emotions.
The Yang Half of the flames is the only thing capable of completely calming the flames of the Yin.
In the primal days, the combined flames were said to scorch anything it touched into nothing, and was split in two in an attempt to mitigate the intense damage it caused when it raged unchecked. For the time being, the Samadhi Fire will remain seperated until the proper time.
Water Manipulation The ability to use and manipulate water (In a similar mannter to the water benders of ATLA, but with some differences.) to his whim.
Thanks to the maleability of the water in his body plus the blessing of the White Snake, Tao is able to extend his limbs far past their normal limits. when using this ability they can move around as if there are no bones in his arms. They can also extend and retract at will.
An extension of this ability is an extremely dangerous one,
Blood Bending
Tao is able to control the blood of living beings, being completely capable of controlling their bodies. Most beings can attempt to resist and break free, but anyone blood related to Tao will be unable to control their body until he releases them. This only works on Wukong, Macaque and Chun. Tao doesn't like using this power often, however he often uses liquid bending to help defeat any construct that uses a similar circulatory-like system.
When they were younger, Tao would often cause some unintentional issues, as when she cried, rain would start to fall in a certain raduis around him and quickly become monsoon level rains if left unchecked.
Siren Song
Tao has a singing voice similar to the likes of sea sirens, being able to influence and/or control others through his voice. His voice is also powerful enough to rip flesh off of bone should he choose to use it, or cause the user hearing it to go mad. However this power is rarely used due to Tao not wanting to cause potential death and/or property damage. The inside of her mouth glows yellow when using this ability. Glamours/Illusions
Tao can use glamour to take on a human appearance at any time, and prefers to not look so much like a monkie. He can also make illusions with his shadow abilities.
Water Warping/Portals
Tao is capable of using a very unique method of travel similar to shadow warping. The main difference is the stream of magic that is being used. Warping through water is usually done by oracles, as the stream of water magic used to travel is also the closest to the timespace stream, the flow of time and space around that entire dimension, In it's own pocket dimension, a seemingly strange place where water flows around breathable air in a tubelike tunnel from all sides. This is an area that only oracles can access, and with the floating islands scattered about it is safe for them to make living areas there.
Water Portals
These take more concentration to use, but are very handy for travel; as the requirement for warping is different. Unless the place is somewhere Tao has visited before, he can warp to and from any large puddle or body of water to anywhere in the world, even places he hasnt visited before.
Tao can also breathe underwater, but doesn't really need to breathe at all.
Primal Diety
Tao and his sister have full control over certain elements, regardless of the control gods from China and other pantheons have. In other words, an example being that the gods of the sea (ex. Posiedon) loose their control if Tao extends his control of water to the entire planet, same with fire.
Misty Form
Tao can turn himself into mist at will and change back at any time. He is more succeptable to being trapped in items like jars with an airtight lid or enchanted items of the same ilk, but he can return to a shrunken form at any time, or change back to his normal size and potentially break the item holding him if it isn't strong enough to contain him.
Fairly Recent Abilities
Tao was kidnapped by the Spider Queen some time during her attempted takeover of Megaopolis in the season 2 finale. See tried to turn them into a spider demon, but the only thing the venom did was give her silk glands in her hands that produce high quality enchanted silk (Silk moth like silk). This is abnormal since there is no other creature that can create enchanted silk naturally, so Spider Queen took quick advantage of this, using Tao as a silk producer for her takeover. Unfortunately making so much silk at once caused Tao's pawpads to become agitated and inflamed, and they stopped producing enchanted silk. Fortunately he managed to escape before the Lady Bone Demon tried to capture him for his half of the Samadhi fire.
The silk strands come out through the pawpads on their hands, and by pressing them together and stretching his arms apart, the silk forms into thick, glowing strands with each motion. This raw material can be used in many products from clothing to armor to fabric.
Misc. Info
• Tao is capable of storing immense amounts of magical power and has more potent magic than his twin sister. His snake heads, when not hands can sink their fangs into a person and suck their life essence and even their soul from their body.
• They a connection to death and the 10 kings, and his mist magic is capable of acting on its own and raising the dead, mainly those who's lives were tragically cut short.
• She sometimes sleepwalks, and depending on the phase of the tide, either moves around like a slow shambling zombie (low tide) or gets aggressive in his sleep and goes into water kaiju form (High Tide). this is one of the only times the water form becomes aggressive.
• Being physically intersex leaves him a target for European alchemists from all over.
• Sometimes purple and gold christhamanthemums spring from her bare feet whenever they touch natural ground. (Think Amaterasu from okami when she runs) these flowers have very potent medical properties.
• Their familiars are an extension of his magic and personality given form, and usually reside in his incense burner/Pokeballs/Shadow (Yang only) when not needed or resting.
• Her fire antlers were once crystal-like purple horns, that upon awakening the samadhi fire burst into flame. These flames started small in the beginning, but grew with age. They shrink to a smaller size during sleep.
That's everything I have at this time! This will be updated each time there is a change or new reference image. If you've read this far, thank you for actually reading all the way through! I would give you a cookie if I could. Tao is one of my most developed OCs, and I hope you've enjoyed reading this, I put a lot of research into him and the AU he's a part of as a whole, and I can go into more detail on the world building I've done at a later date if anyone is interested!

Gale’s Top Ten: Devil Fruit I would want to have
This is not a list of the Strongest Fruit, or the best Fruit. This is a list of the fruit I would be fine giving up the ability to swim for.
Rules:
1. Awakened versions of the Fruit will be included. But it has to be a fruit that exists in the series (manga, anime or movie)
2. I will not be rating its combat capabilities or users, this is about the fruit itself.
3. This is a subjective list
4. No Smile fruits, mainly because… they suck
________________________________________
10. Fuku Fuku no Mi (Garb Garb Fruit)
Tumblr media
It’s a simple ability. I can make clothes. And while I may not be the most creative, I can simply imagine the clothes I want an boom. I got an Armani Suit. I can make a killing in the fashion world. Or just never have to worry about being naked.
9. Hobi- Hobi-No-Mi (Hobby Hobby fruit)
Tumblr media
Now this Fruit is probably the most dangerous fruit in the series. But that’s not why I want it. I want this mainly for one reason, eating it stops the person from Aging. Eating it now would keep me at my peak. Even if it only meant externally, I still would forever look 26. That’s a pretty good deal. Also if people mess with me, I can turn them into toy servants. So nice bonus.
8 Baku Baku no mi (munch munch Fruit)
Tumblr media
this maybe the most secretly overpowered Fruit in One Piece.
allows the user to eat anything (except Seastone). The eaten items can then be merged into and manifested from the user's body or be combined to create something else.
Wapol was an idiot and didn’t realize the possibilities. Being able to eat ANYTHING means even consuming poisons can’t kill him. He can eat anything! Imagine if he ate another DF user, he could gain both their powers. He can reinforce his body! He can create new substances to be even stronger! He could become an apex predator with little effort. I mainly want it because I’d be able to avoid food poisoning and kill at eating contests.
7. Shiro-Shiro No Mi (Castle Castle Fruit)
Tumblr media
This basically allows the user to carry anything everywhere with no issues, plus your insides are a legit castle. It’s like having hammer space but even better! Plus he was able to turn into a living fortress which was pretty hardcore.
I mainly want this because Packing would be a breeze and Customs can’t stop me. I’d be rich with this power. I am a litteral Air bnb
6. Noro-Noro No Mi (slow-slow Fruit)
Tumblr media
An incredibly useful power, given to such an idiot. The power to slow down anything in range of your beam. I’d never spill anything. I can go sky diving without getting hurt. I could face bullets without worry of harm. Plus I can MESS with people so easily. It is just a fun power that I can’t resist
5. Bari Bari no mi (Barrier Barrier Fruit)
Tumblr media
No cap, this is probably one of the most OP fruits. A barrier that can protect the user from anything
While I wish it was sound proof, it does keep EVERYTHING at bay. Nothing can break this thing. It’s the perfect (I need space tool)
Plus it’s great for pranks
4. Sube Sube no Mi (Slip Slip Fruit)
Tumblr media
Okay folks let me tell you about the best weight loss fruit in the business. So basically the user can make their body smooth and slippery, they can slide on anything, all weapons, attacks, and EVEN body fat slip off. Now it’s not perfect, but I would love to just slide from place to place and keep off the excess body fat. I can focus on muscle gaining.
3. Ope Ope No Mi (Op Op fruit)
Tumblr media
grants the ability to manifest a spherical space in which the user can manipulate the orientation, movements, and physical configuration of anything and anyone (themselves included) in a "surgical" fashion, making the user a Free Modification Human
Basically it’s said that this fruit can cure any disease, circumvent disability and even make a person immortal.
Now the main reason I want it would be because I can constantly alter myself and others. I would be able to fix disabilities. I could help those who need it, and I can really f*** sh*t up if I wanted.
That being said I probably wouldn’t be able to utilize it to its full ability. So that’s why it’s only number 3
2. Hana Hana no mi (Hana Hana fruit)
Tumblr media
This Fruit allows the user to replicate and sprout pieces of their body from the surface of any object or living thing. And the full potential of this fruit is not to be scoffed at. It can make Wings, massive versions body parts to use as the user desires and can make up to 1000 body parts.
The user has complete control of the body parts and can be used at their own volition. Imagine having an extra pair of hands, or 1000! Cleaning would be a breeze. Multitasking at the finest level. And this isn’t limited to arms. This could be legs, eyes, fingers, mouths, And the only downside is that you feel what happens to that part. But it’s not permanent damage. If it wasn’t for that downside I would probably make it number 1 on the list. Though I am convinced this fruit would make a person a better lover 😏
1. Gomu-Gomi no mi/ Hito-Hito no Mi: Model Nika (gum-Gum fruit)
Tumblr media
Now I put this much higher than originally thought mainly because of the Awakened form. Gear 5 allows Luffy to basically get the power to defy physics and be a cartoon character, that is so much fun.
But even without that, being made of rubber is awesome. Blunt attacks don’t hurt, incredible flexibility, and Oda confirmed that Luffy can stretch any part of his body. Which means I can make myself even taller. And I can be the Long Long man.
But mainly just the fun of turning myself into rubber, I’d have fun just stretching and moving around. It’s as close to being plastic man as I’ll get. And the main reason it’s number 1 is because there is no Tori Tori no mi : Model Penguin

Weaknesses
❌ Stones give off massive amount of gamma radiation which cannot be concealed, making them easy to track with the right powers/equipment
❌ If the Godkiller laser is fired or a snap is used, the stones need at least 4-8 hours to recharge. The phantom ruby can still be used during this time
❌ Overuse of the power stone can start to erode the user
❌ Stones will light up when used regardless of them being cloaked or invisible
❌ Cannot produce/manipulate Magic (Stones are based in science and have no magical properties)
❌ Stones work within the natural laws of the universe being explored, and cannot go over the universal threshold of that dimension (This means that someone with a power greater than that of the universe they reside in can beat him)

Note
If each ego could have a superpower, what would they pick?
Jackie has superpowers already, but he does wish he was bulletproof. Marvin is satisfied with the powers he has too, but he wouldn’t mind some super strength. I explored a bit of Schneep and Jameson having powers here and here! Schneep’s powers were based in kinesis and stasis, JJ’s were fairly obvious. Chase would probably want super speed and/or invisibility; they would suit him well in different ways.

frank: let me get this straight. thalia and jason’s domain is the sky, percy’s domain is water, and hazel and nico’s domain is basically the underground?
annabeth: yes
frank: but… can’t percy also create storms? that have clouds and lightning and thunder?
annabeth: yes
frank: and… and can’t percy also create earthquakes and make volcanoes erupt?
annabeth: yes
frank: so… in a way, doesn’t that mean everywhere is percy’s domain?
annabeth: yes.
annabeth: but don’t tell him. he hasn’t had that realization yet

AU where everyone has super powers but they only affect certain objects.
Ex:
Telekinesis but only on ballpoint pens or coffee mugs,
Pyrokinetics but only on bamboo or charcoal
Magnetism manipulators, but they only move only quarters or soup
Advance healers can regenerate fingertips or earlobes but nothing else.
Empath but only for goats or the feeling of confusion.
There is a range of powers based on how broad of a range can you control:
Some people can freeze any liquid. Others can only freeze orange juice.
Some people can lift any heavy object. Others can only lift furniture. Others can only lift office copy machines.

A couple things here,
I like how big the panel of Brook is, and the angle used that makes him look even bigger. He's giving essential information with authority, and the art emphasizes that fact
The use of salt is thematically appropriate in a couple of different ways. As Franky insinuates, in the real world salt has traditionally been used to ward off evil, and that fits the vibes of Thriller Bark perfectly. Oda incorporates that real world mythology into the series by finding a way to introduce it into the logic One Piece without feeling like too much of an asspull. It'd be interesting to see if this weakness extended to other similar Devil Fruit abilities, but even if it's not expanded upon it feels right and appropriate for this arc

Hear Me Out // Vigilante Tommy [1-6]
Full story; AO3
Summary;

Notes:
I have . problem. s, anyways my fics dont take themselves too seriously
Chapter One; The Hero Who Bullies Deaf Children
Somebody stepped closer behind him, their footsteps impossibly light and padded, more like paws than anything. Vé recognized it instantly, subtly scooting to the left to make room for his company on the rooftop.
The footsteps were, indeed, paws. Orange, fur-covered, animalistic legs swung off the ledge as the fox-person sat.
Vibrations went through the air as the hero, Foxtrot, started talking. Even with his mask on, Tommy could  feel  what his face looked like- the easygoing smile on his lips. In the same way, he could feel every bug and animal that moved anywhere near them. Physically, too, like an extension of himself.
"Vé, sorry I missed you yesterday. I was helping The Blade,"  Foxtrot said, leaning back on his hands.
Vé shook his head.  "No worries. I had to leave early to help my group with a project."
"Speaking of your project- ah, wait..."  Foxtrot looked around and stood up. He offered his hand to the vigilante. Vé stood too, following the lower-ranked hero to a room inside the run-down building with no windows and a lock- some form of custodian's closet. The hero- with no hesitation in doing so- unclipped his mask and revealed his face. In return, Vé took off his own.
Then, despite the rest of their outfits, they were just Fundy and Tommy again. Two civilians.
"Sorry. Anyway, speaking of your project, how is school going?"  Fundy asked, sitting on the floor. Tommy huffed and dropped down across from him.
      "Fuckin' awful. So, nothing new."
Nodding, Fundy waved it off.  "You only have a year left, though. Make it through this, and you'll never have to go back."
Tommy looked down and paused, trying to form how he wanted to say what was next.
     "I'm worried about that."
Fundy's ears moved back in concern. Tommy wasn't one to be transparent with his worried, but since the two had gotten close, Tommy wasn't wary around him. Though he had a blood family, they didn't  know  Tommy like Fundy. They didn't know him at all. As far as Tommy was concerned, Fundy was the only family he counted.
Fundy's hands moved to form words in BSL, the man fluent in the language. It seemed like a common thing of theirs. When there were serious conversations between the two, they would transition into signs. It helped Tommy think, as he didn't have to focus on the vibrations.  'Worried about the last year of school? What, are your grades dropping? I can help with that.'
'No. I'm- I'm worried about after that.'  Tommy's hands were slower than usual, nerves catching up to him.  'My parents texted me about whether I'd be moving out when I'm eighteen. It seems they want me to, but I was thinking and-'  His hands sped up.  'I realized I don't know who the hell would hire me. How will I pay rent, buy food, or live on my own when I can't do half the jobs that are hiring? I can't do customer service if I can't fucking hear the customers!'
Fundy held his hands up, motioning for Tommy to calm down and take a breath.
'Tommy, you are fully capable of any job. I wouldn't even know you're deaf if I met you today and didn't know you.'
'But- my powers aren't registered. You know I have to keep it a secret. My disability is registered, though. I already applied to every job hiring nearby but got turned down for all of them.'  Tommy drew his knees up, avoiding Fundy's eyes.
Fundy shook his head, his eyebrows furrowing into a half-rage. Not at Tommy, the blond knew that much, but at the jobs. His hands flew to start signing,  'Assholes. Did they even give you an actual interview? Or did they just read your paper and decide no?'
'I got an interview at one, but when I got there, and saw the manager's face when they found out? I could already tell it was no good.'
This time, Fundy muttered something under his breath.
      "Dick."
Tommy laughed, nodding quickly.  "Dick,"  He agreed.
Fundy smiled, then shuffled around so that he was sitting next to Tommy. Putting his arm around the teen, Fundy laid his head back on the wall.
'If you can't find a job because of the bitches in charge, you can always stay with me. Even if you find a job.'
Tommy's lips twitched downward.  'Don't you live at the hero tower, though? Pretty sure that's illegal or some shit.'
'I could move out. I have the money. Here, we have a while before you turn eighteen, in the meantime we can figure out how to get you a decent job. Yeah?'
     'Together?'
Fundy nodded.  'Together, you know it. I'd die before I left you alone.'
Tommy grinned, feeling far less tense than before. He sighed gratefully and closed his eyes.
Before he'd met Fundy, Tommy was lonely. He had lost his hearing a year before, and aside from the school's half-assed BSL lessons, Tommy knew nothing about communicating when deaf.
His parents gave up on him once he wasn't 'normal' or 'fixable.'
Then, when looking into a community effort to help the deaf and blind, Tommy met one of the teen recruits. Fundy had learned sign from his late mother, who had been deaf too. It took a while, but Tommy and Fundy became close.
When Tommy's sensing powers came in late, Fundy was the only person he told. They worked on it together, and Fundy's words were the first ones that Tommy interpreted from vibrations. They went to concerts together, coffee shops to let Tommy practice speaking again, and to speeches.
When Tommy became Vé, Fundy found out and- instead of being mad- he immediately offered to help Tommy be safer on the job.
     Fundy was his brother.
Interrupting the comfortable moment, vibrations were sent to the comms on Fundy's mask across the room.
"Foxtrot, we have a robbery on Roberts Avenue- how far are you?"
Tommy tensed, knowing Fundy wouldn't be able to hear it without it on. Quickly, he rushed to hand Fundy the mask, putting his own on at the same time.
Fundy-  Foxtrot  now- raised a brow behind his mask at Vé.
"Foxtrot! Are you there?"  A worried voice fed through the inside speakers. If it weren't for his power, Vé wouldn't have been able to hear it.
A quiet 'oh' escaped Foxtrot.  "Oh, shit, sorry. I was..."  Foxtrot smiled to himself.  "I was helping a child."
Tommy gasped quietly, hands forming signs in a furious flurry.
'Did you just call me a child, dickhead?'
       'Maybe.'  Foxtrot signed back.
The voice came through the comms again,  "Okay, well, there's a robbery on Robert's. At the bar there. How far away are you?"
"I'm a few blocks off. I'll be there in a minute or less."
Turning to Vé, Foxtrot pointed to the door, already walking as Vé followed behind him. Pressing a button so the other line couldn't hear, he spoke to the vigilante.
      "I'll meet you there?"
"Only if you agree to never call me a child again."
      "No-can-do."
      "Bitch."
After they stopped the robbery, Foxtrot had to bring in the gunman. Before he left, he signed to Tommy that he would look for a job that could take Tommy.
Vé patrolled for another hour before he finally went home. The house wasn't empty (he felt that his parents were in their room, their door locked), but it  was  quiet, meaning his parents had gone to bed. Likely, they hadn't even noticed he was gone.
He lay in bed, simply feeling the things around him. The wind rushed through the streets around their apartment, a few people passing by occasionally. The nighttime routine of the outside room eventually lulled him to sleep, accompanied by the assurance that, no matter what happened with jobs, he had a home with Fundy.
Chapter Two; Siren Sleeps For The First Time... Ever
Fundy was the only person in the breakroom when Wilbur walked in, eyes sunken and his posture slack. The two didn't know each other outside of recognition, and Fundy was exceedingly careful not to bother the man.
Wilbur was fucking  Siren , after all. The number one, the big boss, the ace in their deck. If he wasn't in the tower, chances were that he was on missions.
After considering his status as a low-ranked hero, Fundy shook his head and decided that Wilbur could handle a low-life talking to him. Fundy gestured to Wilbur. "You alright, man?"
Wilbur startled, his blinking slow. "Oh. Oh, yeah. I've just been busy with paperwork and all."
"I bet." Fundy frowned and watched Wilbur stare into the fridge, mind blank. "Do you want me to help? Or, at least, take over for you so you can rest. I have a good bit of time on my hands. I usually use it to hang out with my brother, but he's busy."
Wilbur took a second to register the words. When he did, he stepped back to let the fridge shut and gave Fundy a wide-eyed look. "You'd do that?"
"Of course, man. Every time I see you, you look like a walking corpse." Fundy's ear pinned back as he realized he had insulted the top hero. "No offense, of course."
"No, don't worry. It's true." Wilbur laughed, closing his eyes and looking like he might collapse on the spot.
"Are they in your office?" Fundy stood up, frown deepening as he readied his hands to catch Wilbur if he fell over.
"Yeah, yeah- they uh..." Wilbur yawned, forcing his eyes open. He fished around in his pocket, pulling out a key. "This is the uh... It's locked, so- are you sure you want to?"
"Yeah, man. Can't have Siren dying because he couldn't get help on some forms."
"You- thank you. I'm usually  so  much better with the papers. I promise. Can I-" Wilbur stared at the couch of the break room. "Do you know if we're allowed to sleep on the..." He searched for the word. "Long recliner?"
Fundy stifled a laugh. "Here, let's just trade keys. Go to my apartment in the tower. Floor twenty, okay? It'll be the orange button." He handed Wilbur his apartment key from his utility belt. Wilbur took them, nearly dropping them. Fundy smiled. "You can sleep in my bedroom if you want. First door on the left in the hallway."
"You. Thanks, I will..." Wilbur blanked. "Give you so many high fives."
Fundy chuckled, flipping the office key through his fingers. "I'll hold you to that. Now go sleep, number one."
Wilbur sleepily walked to the elevator, holding Fundy's keys as though they were precious. Fundy shook his head and grabbed his lunch, deciding to finish it as he worked through Wilbur's paperwork.
Fundy learned how to copy Siren's signature that day- disturbingly well. The Blade (the number three hero and the only top ten that talked to Fundy regularly) saw Fundy through a window.
He hadn't come in but merely waved and went about his day.
Fundy wondered for a moment about what to do to get Tommy a job, but then noticed he got slower at the paperwork when he did. Whatever, he'd worry about that later. At the moment, he was thinking of everything he could use Wilbur's forged signature for.
When Wilbur woke up, he was in someone else's bed. Taking a moment, he could hazily recall this being Foxtrot's- Floris? Finn?- apartment in the tower. There was a smell in the room from the hallway, and the rumbling from his stomach convinced him to get up.
The difference he felt after a good night's sleep (first in a few months) was astronomical. Wilbur hesitantly walked into the hallway, the kitchen visible from there. Foxtrot was weaving through his kitchen through habit, obviously used to cooking breakfast every morning. When the younger hero saw Wilbur, he smiled.
     "Hey, number one, you hungry?"
"Uh-" Wilbur's cheeks heated as his stomach growled again, the smell of eggs and bacon stronger. "Yeah, yeah, that's... Wow, that looks great. And a lot. Do you make this much every day?" Wilbur gaped at the food. He hardly had time to make instant coffee in the morning.
"No, I made a little bit more 'cause you're here. I just made enough to feed three."
"Three?" Wilbur asked, feeling awkward as he looked around for a third person. Foxtrot leaned back to look at the clock. "Uh, yeah, my brother. He comes by here for breakfast on his way to school."
Wilbur sat up straighter. "Wait, you're allowed visitors? I thought that was one of the rules of living in the hero tower- no other guests."
" Technically,  this originally counted as community service. Plus, Kristen is so used to him coming by I think she'd be more suspicious if he  didn't  show up."
Kristen- the receptionist, Wilbur remembered. He was about to ask what Foxtrot meant by 'community service,' but the door opened.
"Fundy!" A voice called, blond curls bouncing as a teen barged in.
'Right! Foxtrot's name is Fundy!'  Wilbur thought.
Alarmed, Fundy spun around and quickly used sign language, catching Wilbur and the teen off-guard. At some point, Fundy pointed to Wilbur, who was watching from the sidelines. The teen's mouth formed an inaudible 'oh' as he waved to Wilbur. Fundy shook his head and turned back to the food.
"Sorry, Wilbur. He doesn't know how to act normally around strangers, apparently. Anyway, this is Tommy, my brother."
"Wow, uh, you guys look..." Wilbur's gaze flickered between Fundy's orange ears, tail, and legs and Tommy's very human blond hair and skin. "So alike."
Fundy snorted a laugh, "Pfft- we're not blood-related. He's just  like  my brother."
"Oh!" Wilbur sighed in relief. "That makes more sense."
At some point, Tommy had left to get a whiteboard. When he came back, he had already written on it. He set it down in front of Wilbur beside a black marker and an eraser.
       'WHO'RE YOU, DICKWAD?'
Wilbur raised his brows in amusement. He removed the words and gave Tommy a look. Wilbur considered telling the kid that he was the number one hero, but he didn't want to make the kid act differently. This was funny, and he never got funny interactions with people when he was Siren.
      'I'M WILBUR. WHO'RE YOU, BITCH?'
Tommy full-on  grinned  at the words. He tried to play it off as annoyed, though.
'I'M THE BIGGEST MAN EVER. I'VE COME FOR MY BIG MAN BREAKFAST.'
Fundy leaned back to read the whiteboard as he plated the food on three ceramic plates. He scoffed, signing something to Tommy.
That made Tommy angry. He lightly punched his older brother. Fundy gave Wilbur a deadpan look. "I called him a child."
Tommy narrowed his eyes. "I will kill you."
The three ate breakfast, communicating via sign language, whiteboard, and speaking. It was unconventional, and Wilbur had a lot of unanswered questions about their familial bond, like how they met, but it was somehow perfect. The apartment felt warm despite the cold air.
When Tommy left, Fundy was still smiling, obviously in a good mood. Wilbur thanked him for the food, looking at the door out like it was a gateway to hell.
"Oh!" Fundy ducked down and looked through a cabinet, pulling out a humorously large stack of paperwork. "I finished what I could up here. Your chair is severely uncomfortable."
Wilbur's eyes went wide. "You did a lot." Wilbur gave a few sheets a once-over. "I didn't sign these..."
     Fundy smirked. "I know."
Wilbur barked out a laugh, patting the stack and turning to Fundy. "Thank you, I owe you. This means I have more time today. Do you want me to take over your patrol? As repayment, you know?"
"I don't know, wouldn't you rather relax while you can?"
Wilbur pushed out an exaggerated pout. " Please ? I haven't been on an actual patrol in  years !"
Sighing, Fundy shook his head lightly. "Fine. I patrol District Eleven. There are a few vigilantes in those parts, of course. I try my best not to interact. They don't usually interfere with my work."
Wilbur nearly jumped in excitement, hardly listening to whatever Fundy was saying. He couldn't remember his latest patrol. Wilbur couldn't wait to get back into the field. Rushing to the door, he shouted a final thank-you to Fundy and darted into the elevator.
Siren stood on the rooftop of a bank, his heart hammering in his chest harder than any recent missions he'd been on. He'd stopped two small-time crimes already, and every person involved was shocked that  Siren  was patrolling District Eleven.
That was upsetting. If Wilbur had a say in it, he'd patrol every day, especially in poorer districts, just like he used to before the hero tower learned the true extent of his powers.
Just as he was trying to figure out how he could do this more often, a blur of black and red shot by in the corner of his vision. Spinning, Siren locked eyes with someone in hero-like gear, though he'd never seen them before.
The stranger paused, staring at the hero.
"Are you a Siren cosplayer?" He called from across the roofs. "You're not allowed on the roofs- it's dangerous."
Siren forced himself not to laugh, looking around himself. "Sorry! Uh, who are you?"
     "Vé."
      "Fae?"
"No, man, Vé, like the Norse myth?"
When Siren just stayed silent and shrugged, Vé groaned. "I knew I should've just gone with Apollo."
"Apollo, like the Greek God!" Siren grinned. "I know  that  one."
"See, that's the problem. Everybody knows all these fuckin' Greek myths, but Nordic myths are  so  much cooler."
Siren makes a disbelieving noise, "Eh- it's hard to argue with the classics. I mean, who even  is  Vé?"
"A vigilante. Obviously." The  vigilante  joked, gesturing to his outfit. Siren stood up straighter. "Oh, is that what you are?"
"Yeah, man, no shit." Vé came closer, hopping on the roof next to the bank. "Now, let's get you down. I know some safer areas with equally good lighting and works for scenery. Did you make that costume yourself, by the way? It's well done."
"Ah, no, the hero's tower made it for me."
Vé stopped mid-step. There was a second where they seemed focused, then took a step back. The two stared at each other, Siren putting one hand on the handcuffs on his side.
"When I said I was a vigilante..." Vé took another step back. "I was joking. Have a good day, big man!" And with that, he took off, dashing across the roof. Siren didn't miss a second, still smiling behind his mask as adrenaline rushed through his veins.
Vé hopped to the next roof as Siren's hand flew to a blue button on his mask. Clipping, his speakers hissed to life.
His power leaked into his voice easily, honey coating his words. " Vé !  Stop running !"
But Vé did not stop. He didn't even falter. Siren nearly tripped at that, his smile dropping in confusion.
Nobody had ever withstood his power before. At least, not unless they could deflect it with their own. Even when his enemies had noise-blockers and earplugs, if even a sliver of noise got through, they would succumb to his commands.
That was why Siren was the ace- the number one- he was invincible so long as he could speak.
     Until now.
So, to try to assure himself, he tried again. " Turn yourself in, Vé !"
But the vigilante only sped up, weaving through buildings he knew well.
Siren lost Vé in the end. After he searched to find him, he rushed back to the tower in a panic. Kristen watched him speed through the lobby, blinking once before calling to tell Crow that Siren was on his way up.
When Siren got to the common floor, where most heroes off active duty were, everyone's eyes turned to him.
Crow stepped out of his office, The Blade just behind him. "Hey, Wil, you okay?"
Siren ripped off his mask, the urgency in his eyes startling a few heroes around him. The elevator door opened, and Foxtrot came in, immediately zoning in on the top hero. "Woah, there is  no way  my patrol was  that  rough."
Siren turned to Foxtrot, out of breath. "Do you- uh- do you know any vigilantes in District Eleven?"
     Foxtrot visibly tensed. "Maybe. Why?"
"Vé." Foxtrot took a step back as Wilbur spoke, "Do you know Vé?"
"He's helped me a few times. He's not a threat, he's good at what he does, so..."
Their comms guy, 404, gaped at Foxtrot and stood up. "Fundy, you're supposed to report to me when you see a vigilante!"
"What, does it matter? He's not very powerful, and he's never seemingly used his power, so  technically , he's not even a vigilante!"
"Bullshit, I'd say he's powerful enough!"
Foxtrot scoffed at Wilbur. "Oh,  please,  it's not like he hurt you." The hero said, crossing his arms. He sounded so  certain .
The Blade- or, as he was out of costume now, Techno- gave Foxtrot a suspicious look. "How would you know? How often do you work with this vigilante, anyway? And then  never  reported to 404 about it..."
Siren held up his hands, shushing everyone around him.
"It doesn't matter anymore. We all need to be on the lookout for him." Wilbur looked around and spotted a sidekick to one of the lesser-known heroes. They had a boxy mask to cover their identity, their costume in orange and blue. "Picture-Perfect, I need you to draw him. We're putting him on the priority list." Quickly, Picture-Perfect brought out a sketchpad and waited to be able to recreate Siren's memory.
Crow's black wings ruffled. "Okay, Siren, I understand this is a vigilante, but I'm not sure about the priority list."
"I think he has a powerful ability I'd rather not have out there. Deflection abilities are rare, and for a vigilante to have them? That could go wrong."
" Deflection ?" Captain, the number five hero, stood up and turned to Siren. "Are you sure? All deflection abilities are registered, and there are only two in the country. I mean, one's in prison, and the other is six feet under."
"Then this one's not registered. I gave Vé a command, and he didn't react. Twice ."
"Not registering is illegal," Crow muttered.
"So, he's committed a crime." Siren sat down in a chair and let Picture-Perfect read his recent memories so it could draw the vigilante. "Who's to say he won't do it again."
Foxtrot looked anxiously around himself. "We... We don't have  time  to hunt for a vigilante who hasn't done anything but help."
"Then we'll make time," Siren said simply.
"How? I mean, the heroes are swamped in paperwork." Foxtrot laughed nervously. "You know that first-hand."
Wilbur snapped his fingers. "Then we'll hire some assistants. We should've done that ages ago, honestly."
Despite the next few attempts he made, Foxtrot was unable to get the heroes to lay off his apparent ally. Siren was going to question why the hero was so loyal to Vé but decided that probably was a side-effect of having fought together.
Siren ended the day by arranging a news appearance to get the word out about a possibly dangerous vigilante that went by Vé.
Chapter Three; A Little Birdie Told Him (What a Snitch)
I have good news and bad news. Meet me on top of your complex.
Tommy stared at his phone. Confused, he mindlessly unlocked his apartment's door. Fundy, using proper punctuation? That could only mean something horrible had happened.
       Who fuckin died ???
Despite his joking, Tommy started to worry. He tossed his backpack down and grabbed the bag with his vigilante gear- just in case.
      Stfu child
Tommy snorted a laugh and darted up the stairs, making it to the roof in moments.
"What's wrong?"  He asked out loud, feeling Fundy's presence before he saw him. Fundy stepped closer, head tilting at the bag. Tommy finally turned to look at him.
Birds flew into Tommy's field of sense. It nearly distracted him from how Fundy's heart beat faster than usual. He was nervous- maybe scared.
Fundy started to sign, Tommy stiffening. He automatically tuned out the vibrations, letting himself learn by looking now.
'I know you ran into Siren on patrol.'
The birds that had flown into Tommy's sensory field settled on a wire, just as caught in the bubble of tension as Tommy.
Tommy slowly nodded, hands moving.  'Yeah? I thought you guys didn't talk much. Nothing happened, don't worry, I'm not hurt.'
Waving in dismissal, Fundy shook his head.  'No, he didn't tell me about it. He told everyone as soon as he got back.'
'What? Why?'  Tommy swallowed nervously. He  shouldn't  have made that much of an impact. He'd run as soon as he found it was the real Siren. It wasn't much to write home about.
       'Have you seen the news?'
Tommy could've sworn his blood ran cold. His run-in with Siren was somehow newsworthy, but he couldn't think of a reason why. Fumbling, Tommy grabbed his phone and went to his local news app. He only ever used it for vigilantism up until now.
The news had a photo of him already up when the video loaded.
The drawing was hand-done, similar to many of Picture-Perfect's recreations. He cringed at the accuracy of his vigilante outfit.
The sound was off, so no vibrations bothered or contributed to the mess of senses around him. Instead, the subtitles popped up as the newscaster talked.
'-in last night. We have Siren in the studio right now to inform us of- what he says- is a possible public risk. Bad?'
The camera switched away from Skeppy, one of the hosts. Now it turned to Bad, who was sitting across from Siren. Vé's poster was still in the frame, this time on the television beside the two.
'Thanks, Skeppy. And Siren, thanks for contacting us. This situation seems serious- enough for you to come to the media. Why is this vigilante such a big concern?'
'I was covering Foxtrot's patrol last night in District Eleven-"  Tommy glanced at a guilty Fundy, reading over his shoulder. "-When I met Vé on the roof of some buildings. He approached me, he didn't realize who I was- and after a bit of back and forth, he took off. I told him to turn himself in."
Bad shifted, re-aligning the papers in his hands as he knit his brows.  'So then, how did he escape after turning himself in?'
'That's just the thing. Vé   did not react to my power. He didn't stop when I asked him to, neither time I did. He ignored it both times.'  Siren sighed and shifted to his other side.  'We suspect deflection abilities. Rare, but we know it's not impossible.'
Tommy felt ill. Ignoring Siren's powers hadn't even crossed his mind as an issue before. The idea of  him  having deflection abilities? It was absurd, abstract, and so far removed from the truth that he wanted to laugh. Maybe cry, actually. He couldn't tell.
Tommy switched off his phone and slid down to sit on the roof. Fundy sighed and sat across from him, observing Tommy.
'None of this would've happened if I had warned you about Siren,'  He signed, frown deep.  'I'm sorry.'
'It's okay. It's not your fault.'  Tommy ignored the way Fundy's face shifted, portraying his disagreement.  'Just sucks ass that it happened.'
'Yeah.'  Fundy shuffled to sit next to Tommy, ears twitching back.  'Here, I'll take your bag. Hide it and all.'
'Hide it?'  Tommy moved the bag a little farther away from Fundy. The fox grabbed at it, Tommy holding it out of his reach. Fundy grunted and went back to using his hands for signing instead.
'Yeah, fucking obviously. I need you to stop.'  His face softened.  'I don't want you getting hurt. They have damn near every hero after you, you know.'
Tommy crossed his arms and rolled his eyes, only moving his hands enough for Fundy to know what he was saying,  'No way in hell. I'm not going to stop helping people, and you know that. Even if every hero is after me, that doesn't mean I can call it quits. I'd hate myself forever. I'm no pussy, man.'
'Tommy. You're fucking seventeen.'  Fundy made a more aggressive attempt to get the bag.  'You're not going to live in fucking fear of Siren. I can't help you this time.'
'You can't help me forever, anyway.'  Tommy pushed him back and narrowed his eyes.  'I love you, Fundy, I do- but you're not always going to be right there to have my back. It's my decision, and if it's the wrong choice, let me make my wrong choice.'  Tommy pointed, jabbing a finger into Fundy's chest before he continued signing,  'You're not my dad. You're my brother, so don't tell me what to do like a goddamn parent. Okay?'
Neither of them moved for a solid minute. It was tense, and all Tommy could focus on was the overbearing feeling of hearts. There was Fundy's that was most prominent, and the birds'.
Finally, Fundy managed to move his hands.
'You said you love me? And I'm your brother? You're so sweet, Tommy.'
Tommy huffed and rolled his eyes, unable to suppress the massive grin on his face. He flipped Fundy off, though he didn't fight the laugh as Fundy wiped an imaginary tear and hugged him.
Like it could tell that all of the tension had dissipated, the bird ruffled its feathers and fell away from the wire, flying out of Tommmy's field of sense.
When Fundy pulled back, he sighed.  'Seriously, be careful. If you die, I'll kill you.'
"Yeah, yeah,"  Tommy spoke,  "If that's the good news, I'd hate to hear your bad news."
"Oh, right! So, good news, the Hero's Tower is hiring."  Tommy's face scrunched in confusion, so Fundy kept talking,  "Every hero is going to get an assistant to help with paperwork and stuff. I'm thinking of telling them you can read lips, too, and talking you up."
"I don't know- who would I even be interviewing for?"
Fundy shrugged.  "I don't know. They're having assistants interview with the top heroes, then, if they think you'd be better for a lower-ranked hero, they send out your application to the rest of us. They're like a pre-test."
"Alright. When's the first interview opening?"
"I'll try and get you in first thing tomorrow morning."
A bird coasted on the air, black feathers glimmering in the sunset. The bird settled into the open window, waiting patiently. Phil-  Crow - did not have his wings present, but still, the bird didn't seem to recognize him as human.
"What did you find?" Phil asked, finger gliding over to pet the bird.
The crow cawed, speaking as though Phil could understand. Phil nodded, humming before he responded, "Did you see the inside of the bag?"
       Caw.
"But, what, Foxtrot tried to get it?"
       Caw.
      "The news?"
       Caw.
"I see..." Phil let the crow hop onto his wrist as he sat in a recliner. His office was messy, but comfortable all the same. "Deaf... That's his brother. Wilbur told me about the kid a few hours ago."
      Caw, caw.
"I hate to think it, but they might be working with Vé. Foxtrot was very defensive of him. We'll have to keep a close eye on him. His brother, too, if we can."
The crow adjusted itself on his arm, nodding. It tilted its head at Phil, almost concerned.
"I-  We  can't have another villain with deflective abilities on the loose. Not after the last time."
Chapter Four; Nepotism Is A Powerful Gift
Phil read over the article again. It laid out Siren's statement, meaning Phil could finally analyze Vé's actions.
Vé's defense of Norse mythology was the only part that stood out to Phil. It seemed Vé found it noteworthy, enough to name himself after one of them, meaning he would've talked about it with any trusted accomplices at some point.
Standing up, Phil readied himself. Black wings sprouted from the man's back, still held to his sides. The wingspan was much larger than the office he'd gotten as his office, so when he stepped into the much larger communal room, he stretched his wings wide.
Spotting Techno, Phil walked up behind him. "Tech', you're into myths, yeah? Do you know anything about Nordic mythology?"
Without looking up from his phone, Techno grunted, "Eh, not enough. Not about Vé. I already talked to Wil about that."
"Well, do you know where to find information on that stuff?"
Slowly, as though to make a point, Techno turned to Phil.
     "... Google."
"No good," Wil's voice echoed from his office. He walked out, a deep frown etched onto his face, laptop in hand. "I'm getting a lot of mixed answers. None of them tell me anything about Vé."
     "Huh... Well, what'd you find?"
"A lot of stuff, but some of it contradicts, like  any  old mythology, I guess." Wilbur dropped into one of the couches and scrolled up. "So, overall, Vé, Vili, and Odin are all brothers- all of 'em give humans shit."
"Okay, what did Vé give?" Techno turned off his phone and leaned against the couch, interested. He had always been big on Greek mythology but had never strayed to Nordic myths. Phil's wings ruffled.
"A few things." Wilbur squinted at his screen and paraphrased the information, "So, Odin gives them life..." Wilbur scrolls. "Vili gives them understanding? Thoughts, I guess, and- there, Vé gives them their senses and appearance."
"Senses? Like touch, smell, all that?"
"Yeah." Wilbur's head lulled back. "See? It tells me nothing other than Odin would've been a better name to go with."
Phil stared off at nothing. "Odin's more recognizable, but there  has  to be some reason he went with Vé. A reason that can tell us about who he is- behind the mask. We need  something ."
A door opened, making the three turn. Foxtrot walked through, already in the process of taking off his mask. "Hey, uhm- so I have a question about the assistants we're hiring."
"Yeah?" Wilbur asked, sitting up. He was in charge of a good portion of the hiring process since it was his idea.
Fundy smiled a little wider upon seeing Wilbur. "Right, you remember my brother, right?"
Phil straightened, wings tensing on his back.
     "Tommy? Yeah, why?"
"Once they figure out he's deaf, no jobs will hire him. The thing is, he's good at lip-reading, and he's a quick thinker. Plus, he speaks pretty damn clearly." Fundy cringed. "Well, he can be a bit loud, but that might be how he is."
Techno raised a brow. "Are you asking us to submit to nepotism?"
"No- no, uh-" Foxtrot laughed nervously, still not used to talking to the top-ranking heroes often. He cleared his throat and forced himself to be calm. "Listen, I'm just asking you to give him a fair shot. He already comes by every day, anyway. Uhm, school ends in about a week for summer break, so he's looking for a job, and I think this one would suit him. Oh- maybe mess with him a bit." Fundy waved as he started to leave. "I'm going to my flat. Think about it?"
Techno looked back at his phone. "Okay then, schedule him for whatever time he'd be coming around anyway."
"I could fit him in tomorrow morning," Wilbur murmured, looking at a spreadsheet of times. When he finally finished with that tab, Wilbur shut his laptop. "So, any idea where to go on the Vé situation?"
"I have an idea..." Phil's eyes lit up as his wings lifted. He turned to Techno. "Where do you get your physical books on Greek mythology?"
"Eh- our local public library has a good historical collection in the religion section. Why? It couldn't tell you more than the internet."
"I need a physical copy." Phil started to leave the room, lost in his thoughts. "Oh, Techno, leave a Greek book on my desk, would you? Whichever one looks the most used."
Before either of the heroes in the room could respond, Phil took the open elevator down.
"He's so fucking cryptic." Wilbur rolled his eyes and slumped into the couch, burying himself in the cushions.
"Yeah, but when he's cryptic, it means he's getting things done." Techno paused his scrolling. " Usually. "
Crow handed the book to the shocked worker. Horns peaked out of the teen's hair, goat-like ears pushed back in surprise.
Like an idiot, Crow had decided to get his book on patrol as he'd been passing by the library. Now, everyone was staring. He brought his wings in, attempting to shrink into himself to hide. It did not work.
The book was in perfect condition. Crow did that on purpose, grabbing the least-used one of the bunch.
The worker-  Tubbo , as the nametag read- stammered his way into a sentence. "Wh- You- Is that- Do you have a library card?"
"No, I'll be getting on today, thanks."
"Right, what... Tubbo blanked. "Do I just put these under the name Crow?" He whispered to himself.
Ranboo, his coworker, threw his hands and spoke hushedly, "Jesus, man, just give him the book! He's a hero! He's going to give it back."
"I will fucking shank you. I'm literally just doing my job, bitch." All at once, Tubbo's nervousness disappeared, replaced by annoyance and a visible grudge.
"You won't because you need this job- and they'd fire you for getting my blood on the carpets."
"Fucking  obviously , I need this job. I would've quit as soon as your stupid ass walked in those doors- if I could work  anywhere  other than here."
"Right back at you." Ranboo faced away from Tubbo pointedly, doing something on another computer screen. "As soon as I get out of here, I'll be glad not to hear you complain constantly."
Crow perked up, seeing his opportunity. "Well, the Hero's Tower hiring."
Both employees jumped, having forgotten he was there. Ranboo's bracelet around his wrist clanged against the counter.
"Sorry?" Ranboo said- more of an ask, really.
"The Hero Tower. Every hero and hero-adjacent is hiring an assistant. We're holding interviews for the next few days if you want to call in to schedule one."
Crow grabbed two bits of receipt paper from his pocket and scribbled Kristen's number on them.
The librarians glanced at one another before snatching up a paper each, then separating.
Tubbo cleared his throat, "Ehm- you just... I mean, you'll return it- I assume. So..." His cheeks flushed. "I will call. Of course. Thank you, sir."
Crow nodded, assuring them he would return it, then headed for the doors.
"Like  you'll  get the job," Ranboo muttered.
" The  job, like there's not multiple." Tubbo shoved the paper in his pocket and crossed his arms. "Fucking- says  you , anyway."
"I do say. If the Hero Tower hires  you  instead of  me,  there's something wrong with their system."
      "I will kill you."
      "You can  try ."
Phil set down the worn book in the open, placing an old, loved bookmark near the end. He opened the new library book around a third of the way through.
Techno and Wilbur watched him. They were waiting on Tommy's interview time, and Phil had told them in advance to 'go along with it.' That he would 'explain later.'
So, they finally put on their masks, Tommy walked in, and they let Phil take the lead.
The first thing Tommy noticed when he walked in was their heartbeats.
Crow's heart was a bit faster than Siren and The Blade. Tommy swallowed. He tried not to think of  why.  It was probably just Crow's power making his body work differently.
The second thing he noticed was how familiar Siren's face felt. He assumed it was due to their recent run-in.
The  third  thing he noticed was the state of Siren's office.
It was a mess. The desk itself was clear aside from a book on-
A book on Nordic mythology .
And Tommy was observant. He'd learned how to be from Fundy- that and his power. Tommy didn't realize that it was set up to be that way but noticed how old and worn out the Greek book was next to the Norse one. He refrained from saying anything- for the moment.
      "Thomas Innes. Fundy's brother?"
There was a tablet between them, subtitling every word they were saying. Tommy's heart soared. Now he didn't have to worry about pretending to lip-read.
He directed his eyes to the screen, only looking up to smile and be excruciatingly polite.
"In all but blood, yes, sir."  Tommy nodded.
"Okay, why don't you tell us why you'd be good in this position?"
The interview bits zipped by. Tommy answered how he was meant to. Not dishonestly, but still how he was supposed to.
At some point, Siren had started being the one to ask interview questions, Crow going back to the book on Norse mythology.
Tommy didn't fail to notice how long it took him to flip a page.
At the end of the interview, Siren rolled back in the desk chair, smiling behind his mask.  "That's it for us. Did you have any questions?"
"No- not really."  Tommy looked at the book again, trying to stop himself. Then again, how often do you get an excuse to bring up a niche interest like Norse mythology?  "Actually, is that... Nordic myth?"
Phil gave an exaggerated groan, the vibration echoing around Tommy's space. He set the book down.  "Yeah, it is. But I just don't understand it. Like it goes in one ear and out the other."
"It's not any more convoluted than Greek mythology."  Tommy defended quickly, gesturing to the Greek book on the desk.  "If you just gave it a chance, I mean-"
Tommy's face flushed as he stopped himself from rambling.  "Sorry."
"No worries, mate. We can talk about it some other time."  Crow's wings shifted like he'd won a silent victory.  "Check out with Kristen in the lobby. Normally, we'd email you, but it'd probably be faster to reach you through Fundy."
Tommy swallowed nervously, bowing a bit before he headed out. As he headed down, in the corner of his area of sense, he made out some of Crow's vibrations.
       "I think I have a lead."
Chapter Five; The Kid? A Criminal? Siren Doesn't Think So
"This is stupid," Wilbur said when Phil left the office in the morning.
According to Phil, Fundy and his little brother were secretly working with Vé. Wilbur calls it bullshit, though. Tommy had been so sweet- behind the friendly bickering and jokes. Fundy had even given him his first patrol day in  years . In no way was he involved with a dangerous vigilante.
Techno grunted in disagreement. "I don't know. Phil's crows never lie, Wil."
"I don't think they lied. Maybe they misinterpreted it."
"Foxtrot went out  right after  we officially announced Vé as a priority- they were watching the  news . What else would it have been about?"
"I don't know, man, something else?" Wilbur's voice became muffled as he mumbled into his sweatshirt. "I'm picking Tommy as my intern. I'm proving you wrong."
"You can't do that, Wil- You won't be looking for leads properly. You  are  biased, after all."
"You can't stop me. I'm fucking  Siren . The directors will let me do it."
"Not if I insist limiting the top three heroes to  one  assistant will decrease major security risk. You know how much the board  loves  saving money and keeping their Siren safe." Techno crossed his arms and raised a brow, shooting Wilbur a look that tested his will.
The tension settled, eyes locked across the room. Wilbur's eyes narrowed. "You wouldn't."
Techno hummed, shrugging loosely. He left the room without another word. Of course, the direction he headed in was the elevator. He was going to get in touch with the  board of directors.  Wilbur stumbled to his feet, chasing after the bastard.
For as great as Wilbur's power is, using them is prohibited against his fellow heroes. He failed to make the elevator in time, watching as the doors closed, vanishing away a sliver of Techno's calm face, hand on the  'close door'  button.
The staircases down would be far slower. Wilbur was on the tenth floor, and the stairs weren't continuous. He went down one flight, across the floor, down another, across-
It was to make it easier to catch intruders, but right now, all it was doing was putting Wilbur into a fury.
When Wilbur got to the ground floor, Techno was already standing in front of the desk, the phone in Kristen's hand as she spoke to the directors.
     "You little  bitch ."
"Wil, Wil- please." Techno sarcastically patted Wilbur's shoulder. "I'm just lookin' out for a security breach. You're welcome. I've saved you."
Fundy told his brother that (if he were going on to interview with other hero ranks) he would get a call back within the week. Tommy didn't get a call back for two weeks. It left him feeling vaguely disappointed, but it was nothing new. He kept applying for jobs but was running out of places.
He was about to phone Fundy to ask about moving in when his phone vibrated. He expected to see Fundy, but his contact labeled 'Hero Tower' popped up.
Panicking, Tommy hit the wrong button, hanging up on them.
Heart dropping into his stomach, he froze.
Grabbing at straws, he quickly texted the number.
Hello, I'm so sorry for not answering. I'm deaf and can't chat over the phone. Would you mind talking over text?
Letting out a heavy sigh, Tommy let himself relax. He fell into a chair, glad for his improvisation skills. The response came quickly, apologizing profusely. Kristen (Tommy felt more comfortable knowing it was her- after all, she had only ever been kind to him) admitted to not realizing who she was calling and explained that, after heavy consideration, he was to be an assistant.
Tommy's heart bloomed. A heavy weight fell from his shoulders, fingers shaky as he called Fundy
Fundy, sure as he was that the callbacks had ended, was elated that Tommy was accepted. Whether or not Tommy would be  his  assistant, he didn't care, only that his brother was finally getting recognition. Tommy could be described as many things, but reliable was one of them. He had an incredible work ethic, and Fundy couldn't help the smile on his face as he entered the common area.
"Tommy's getting called in? Do you know what heroes you're recommending for him?" He asked, grinning as he leaned over the couch. He'd grown comfortable around the top three heroes as they asked the odd question about his brother or talked to him more. Fundy supposed it was a case of not quite noticing him until recently.
Wilbur sucked in a hiss of air, looking to Techno and Phil to elaborate.
"So, we're not recommending him for any heroes, exactly..."
Fundy's smile dropped quickly. "What does that mean?"
"We already have a specific assistant position in mind."
Shoulders releasing the tension, Fundy felt relief as he believed to understand. "Oh, so, like, working with Kristen?" He gave a considering nod. That made sense. Kristen and Tommy already got along.
"Me?" Kristen voiced from his right, papers in hand. Fundy jumped at her sudden appearance. She handed a stack to Wilbur. "No, I've already accepted an assistant. Nice person, too. Tommy's..." Kristen looked at the top three, eyeing them as she fell silent.
Fundy's jaw opened, silence clear enough to tell him what she meant. " He's  working with one of  you ?"
Techno hummed. "Not one- uh-  all   three  of us. It's only one assistant for security reasons." Fundy missed the glare Wilbur shot The Blade. He sputtered, "What- but- I mean- isn't that too much paperwork for one person?"
Phil grew a proud smile. "Not really. We've delegated unnecessary papers to the department. Since it  is  more work, he will be getting better pay than one-to-one assistants."
"Shit..." Fundy swallowed an awful dread. Crow, The Blade, and Siren were the main three headhunting Vé. Having him work under them would be dangerous. But, then again, Tommy is deaf, and  Vé  is assumed not to be. He sighed. "Tommy will be  thrilled  about this..." He murmured, "Unfortunately."
Tommy was buzzing with excitement. Kristen told him in person- with Foxtrot there to interpret- that he was to be the assistant to the top three heroes, even if rankings switched, as opposed to the other assistants.
A starkly familiar teen his age came out of the hallway, eyes wider when they saw Tommy.
"You're Tubbo's old tutor."  He said, brows raised. Kristen shifted behind him, motioning for him to shut up. That something was wrong with how he talked to Tommy. Tommy held back an awkward laugh, merely tilting his head and staring at their lips pointedly. Pretending to be unsure, he nodded.  "I was Tubbo's tutor. Is that what you said?"
Tutoring was the only job Tommy could take. There was a lack of volunteers around the school, so some students had no choice but to accept him despite his hearing loss.
Tubbo was one of the kinder ones to him, making efforts to conversate in a way he believed Tommy would understand. He had even learned a good bit of sign. Although the two didn't end things well, he had still been kind.
"He's deaf, Ranboo!"  Kristen hissed quietly behind him, low vibrations reaching through Tommy's sphere of sense.
Ranboo's eyes flickered between Fundy's still-interpreting hands and Tommy's eyes, fixed on his lips.  "Oh!"  Face flushing, the teen facepalmed. Carefully, he did a stiff version of  'sorry'  in sign. Tommy laughed openly this time,  "No worries, man. I can lip-read, too, so it's all good."
Bullshit - that's what that was. Lip reading was harder than reading vibrations, honestly. Especially when, in their city, there's such a varying range of accents and dialects.
Ranboo nodded stiffly, motioning off and mumbling an excuse that, ironically,  only  Tommy could understand.
"I'm gonna go- y'know... figure out what to do with my life... now..."
Tommy's smile grew slightly as Ranboo waved and rushed off.
Kristen slowly sat, wincing.  "Sorry, that's my new assistant. He means well, I promise."
Fundy didn't interpret that, instead signing,  'I am trying so hard not to laugh at both of you.'
Pushing down a scoff, Tommy signed back.  'I'll shank you.'
       "He says Ranboo seems nice."
The phone rang, scaring Tommy out of his skin as the vibrations invaded his every sense. Kristen picked up. Confused, she listened.
"Code orange. We need all available heroes down at the north loading docks."  The voice said hurriedly. Kristen's eyes widened, hand=ging up quickly and dialing a number.
She frantically picked up the phone again as it rang. Before anyone picked up, she looked at Fundy.  "Tommy, I'm sorry, but we'll have to move your first day to tomorrow. Fundy- code orange. Get to the loading docks- uh- fuck, north, they said."
Fundy looked at Tommy, knowing he'd already heard. Tommy's eyes glinted with an idea. Tommy signed a quick goodbye as Fundy hurried off, too quickly to notice Tommy determine what Vé was to do that day.
A few halls down, Ranboo swiftly turned a corner, still berating himself. He had a video open on beginner sign language, determined to convince Tommy he  wasn't  an asshole.
Another turn late, and they slammed into someone.
Realizing the other person had fallen, Ranboo hurriedly put their phone away. "I am so sorry, are-" Ranboo's lips sealed when they saw who it was.
      Fucking  Tubbo .
" You ." Ranboo sneered. Tubbo glared up at him. "Me, bitch. What the fuck're  you  doing here?"
     "I'm an assistant."
"Me too..." Tubbo paused. "To who?"
"Kristen, the receptionist." Ranboo raised a brow, watching as Tubbo struggled to get up.
      "Warden," Tubbo muttered.
The goat's eyes trailed down to Ranboo's pocket. The phone wasn't very far in, so he could make out a BSL video.
      "The fuck're you watching?"
"Uh, your tutor- Tommy- he's an assistant here too." Ranboo flushed again, struggling to hold his glare. "I'm just trying to be able to communicate, is all."
      "Tommy?"
      "Yeah."
Tubbo's glare completely fell as he thought. "Who's he the assistant to?"
"Not a single clue." Ranboo shrugged, looking off at a window. Awkwardly, neither of them said anything for far too long.
"Do you need... Help... Learning?" Tubbo forced out, staring pointedly at the ground.
"From you?" Ranboo quirked a brow questioningly. "Sure, but we have work." They said uncomfortably.
Tubbo tilted his head, ears peeling back. "No, they've called us all off for the day. Just now, something about an orange."
      "What...?"
"Yeah, uhm- Tommy..." Tubbo stopped himself, frowning. "I just want to practice signing again. I'm pretty rusty."
"Oh, do you and Tommy not talk anymore?" Ranboo hadn't meant anything by it, but Tubbo's face soured. "None of your business, bitch."
Ranboo held up their hands and rolled their eyes. "Jeez, my bad, moody."
Tubbo shook his head and grabbed Ranboo's wrist. "Come on, I have a lot to teach you, and I can tell you're a slow learner."
      "What does that mean?"
"It means you're dumb.  Obviously ." And, with that, Tubbo dragged Ranboo closer to his house.
Tubbo's house by the loading docks.
Chapter Six; Loading Docks, More Like Loading Villains, Amiright?
Vé swung over a gap between buildings, adrenaline pumping as he neared the loading docks. Most of the heroes were either already there or on their way. While Vé was unsure of what kind of threat there was, he  did  know what a code orange was.
     Potential total wipeout.
If there was even a slight chance whatever was happening could reach outside of the located district, that was a code orange. The immediate area was in danger.
As he jumped another building, Vé landed with a low thud of vibrations. He felt a hero zip past him- the space they took up in shape resembling Picture-Perfect. They slid past him without realizing, rushing down to the docks.
Vé peered over, taking in the scene. Most of the on-duty heroes gathered in front of a terrifyingly familiar face.
It was a short villain who used to wear an eerie bunny mask. After their arrest, they were revealed as Aimsey Jones, someone Tommy had sat beside in classes before they disappeared, a missing person.
His biggest crime was a bomb that went off inside the hero tower, injuring eight heroes, and killing two.
Aimsey held another bomb encased in shrapnel to her chest, a wide grin across her face. Vé winced, head tilting as he felt a low vibration circle in the air around Aimsey.
A posse of people stood defensively around Aimsey in the bomb.
"Welcome, heroes!"  Aimsey shouted, though there was something different in how they talked, too. Vé slid down to the windowsill, edging closer to feel more of the area out.
Aimsey's heart kept a steady resting rate, so slow that, if Vé wasn't looking right at him, he'd have thought Aimsey was asleep. Aimsey's body wasn't matching with their actions  at all .
     Something was  very wrong .
But Vé didn't have time to worry about that right now. Instead, he attempted to feel out the inside of the bomb as Aimsey spoke, red eyes glinting.
"It's so nice of you to show your faces, especially after showing mine! Unfortunately, it didn't affect me like you wanted it to. How sad."  Aimsey inspected the bomb, shrugging loosely after a moment.  "This may have to be a suicide bomb. You seem to have cornered me. Did you think I would give up in the face of death?"  Aimsey smiled still, looking up at the crowd of heroes as their fingers hovered over the switch, taunting.
Siren snarled in Aimsey's direction.  "What are you trying to accomplish, Rabbid?"
"Murder, clearly,"  Aimsey deadpanned, rolling their eyes. Siren's eyes narrowed behind his fabric, speakers hissing to life.
     Siren's voice boomed.  "Villains, sleep."
Like ragdolls, the villains around Aimsey folded, dropping to the floor. Their guns fell, a few shooting off into the air. Some fell off the docks and into the water. The only one that stood now was Aimsey.
But xey didn't even flinch. Instead, xe laughed. It was cold, nothing like the Aimsey Tommy used to know.
"What was that supposed to do? You know damn well your powers are useless here, little mermaid."  Aimsey cackled to themself.
It was like watching a standstill, none of the heroes daring to move in a way that would make Aimsey set off the bomb.
"Rabbid, please, you don't have to do this,"  Nihachu called, eyes glued to the bomb.
Just as Vé was about to form a plan, two new figures stepped into his field of sense.
One was so achingly familiar that Tommy knew who it was- Tubbo. Then, by height, he assumed the other was Ranboo.
Tommy slides back, eyes narrowing. They must not have been in the district when the evacuation alarms went off. They'd been in the hero tower, but they wouldn't have known about the evacuation.
Deciding that the heroes could handle it themselves, Tommy quietly found an alley. He scaled the fire escape and made his way to where he felt the two walking. Their heartbeats were normal, completely unaware of the situation happening behind the building.
Vé noted that they were walking to Tubbo's house and slid in front of them from behind an alley wall. Tubbo yelped, stumbling back. Ranboo jumped, slapping a hand over his mouth as their jaw dropped.
Tubbo sucked in a sharp breath.  "Shit, shit, uhm, listen, we- we don't want any trouble."  Tubbo stepped back and to the side, hands up as he absentmindedly stood in front of Ranboo.
"That's good because neither do I,"  Tommy murmured, pushing down the urge to glare at Tubbo.  "There's been an evacuation. You need to leave, like, now."
Tubbo's hands faltered, eyes narrowing.  "I didn't hear about an evacuation."
"I don't have time for this. I'm not out to hurt you."  Vé's voice had a biting tone as he kept part of his mind focused on the heroes he could still feel.
He felt some of their hearts skip a beat. The threat has increased.
Vé's eyes shot back to the two.  "I need to get you two out of here. Aimsey- uh, Ragged is back. They have a bomb."
Ranboo's hand fell from their mouth, voice finally breaking.  "Aimsey?"
Vé nodded slowly, watching their expression falter to one of sadness. Vé filed it away for later, instead, he grabbed their hands. Ranboo didn't fight it, lost in thought, but Tubbo snatched his hand away.
"You're top of the priority list,"  Tubbo states, lips pursing.
"Well- fucking not anymore, with Rabbid back!"  Vé hissed, shaking his head violently. His heart stopped as he felt a wave of vibrations.
Not listening for Tubbo's vibrations as he spoke, Tommy froze. There were five locations nearby that he could feel the vibrations coming from.
And now that he had realized it, he could feel five bombs. What Aimsey had had must've been a detonator.
Tommy caught Tubbo mid-sentence, throwing the shorter boy over his shoulder and yanking Ranboo by the shirt, dashing down to the enclosed alley farthest from the bombs across the street.
Vé threw the two against the wall, wincing as he felt Tubbo yell.
There were heroes by the buildings with bombs, though- he didn't have time to worry about a few bruises. Tommy kicked the dumpster in front of the two to cover them.  "Stay here, there are about to be a lot of explosions. Don't be a dumbass!"
Jumping onto the dumpster, Vé scaled the building and searched. Unfortunately, the bombs didn't have a very long timer. One exploded two buildings away The shock it created sent rubble flying onto the rooftops, one of them heading straight for Tommy's stomach.
Trying to evade it, Tommy rushed to the side. Just barely, the concrete clipped his shoulder and knocked him back, teetering on the edge of the roof before feeling his feet grind against the corner, dropping back down to the alley.
Vé had fallen loads of times- just never from a fucking  roof .
He felt a screech come from below him-  Ranboo , if he had to guess. They may have moved to catch him, though if they did, it didn't work. His back hit the top of the dumpster as another explosion went off, tumbling towards the back of the alley. His mask hit the concrete, a large  crack  vibrating off of the walls.
His mask split open, he realized hazily. Tommy scrambled to grab the other half of the mask, but it was too late. Tubbo gasped, stepping away as Ranboo knelt by Tommy, asking a question he couldn't piece together.
After a minute of staring, Tubbo winced, another bomb exploding. Tommy murmured a swear, stumbling to his feet in an attempt to go help the heroes. Tubbo grabbed his arm and yanked him back down, nervously grabbing the mask from him.
Tubbo's hands moved, unsure.  'Your power?'  His brows knit together.
'My hearing? Yes, if you mean Siren- no, that's just my deafness,'  Tommy signed, not using his arms as support anymore. That failed him, though, as he nearly hit his head again.
Ranboo, still confused, blinked.  "Wait, so, I thought he couldn't hear, but he was hearing us earlier. Was- wait, am I allowed to say that? What- didn't he... Nevermind."  Ranboo gave up, standing up and looking over the dumpster.  "Shit- how many more bombs are there?"
Tommy closed his eyes, feeling nauseous as he tried to focus.
Vé held up two fingers, then, as another bomb went off, only one. Tubbo pursed his lips.  'Is it a clear shot to my place?'
Frowning, Vé nodded. Tubbo sucked in a breath and helped Tommy up, his arm over his shoulder. Ranboo soon stepped up, pushing the dumpster out of the way and getting Tommy's other side. They made it a few steps of the alley before someone rushing into the street made them panic. It was Aimsey, no heroes behind them as they ran. He caught the three in his gaze and grinned, raising a brow.  "Well, isn't this sweet? I'll say-"
A snap of vibrations interrupted them. The support from Tommy's side disappeared and Ranboo appeared behind Aimsey, hitting them with a piece of Vé's mask. Ranboo yelled themselves, dropping the piece of the mask as Aimsey fell unconscious.
Tommy's jaw dropped, unsure if this was just a hallucination. Tubbo sputtered. Tommy couldn't figure out what he was saying, but it was certainly said through shock. Ranboo kept murmuring what Tommy thought was 'sorry,' though he wasn't sure.
Ranboo picked up Aimsey and appeared beside them again, holding the villain as far from himself as possible. The only thing Tommy could figure out as he spoke was,  "-Didn't mean to, I'm so sorry, I panicked!"
That was just before he finally passed out from blood loss, the gash in his shoulder showing through his clothes.

DP x DC: The Most Dangerous Card Game
Ok so Danny has essentially claimed earth as his. And he is fully aware that there are constant threats to the planet. Now he can’t stop a threat that originates on earth (that’s something he’ll leave to the Justice league) but he can do something about outside threats. Doing some research on ancient spells, rituals, and artifacts, he cast a world wide barrier on the planet to protect it from hostile threats so they cannot enter. This will prevent another Pariah Dark incident. However, barriers like this come at a price. You see, there are two ways to make a barrier. Either make one powered up by your own energy and power (which would be constantly draining) or set up a barrier with rules. The way magic works is that nothing can be absolutely indestructible. It must have a weakness. The most powerful barriers weren’t the ones reinforced with layer after layer of protective charms and buffed up with power. Those could eventually be destroyed either by being overpowered, wearing them down, or by cutting off the original power source. No, the most powerful barriers were the ones with a deliberate weakness. A barrier indestructible except for one spot. A cage that can only be opened from the outside. Or that can only be passed with a key or by solving a riddle. So Danny chooses this type of barrier and does the necessary ritual and pours in enough power to make it. And he adds his condition for anyone to enter.
Now the Justice league? Find out about the barrier when Trigon attempts to attack, they were preparing after he threatened what he would do once he got to earth. How he would destroy them. The Justice league tried to take the fight to him first but were utterly destroyed, so they retreated home to tend to their injuries, and fortify earth for one. Last. Stand. Only when Trigon makes his big entrance…he’s stopped.
The Justice league watch in awe as this thin see-through barrier with beautiful green swirls and speckled white lights like stars apears blocking Trigon and his army’s advance. The barrier looks so thin and fragile yet no matter how hard the warlord hits, none of his attacks can get through and neither can he damage said barrier. That’s when Constantine and Zatanna recognizes what this barrier is. Something only a powerful entity could create. For a moment, the league is filled with hope that Trigon can’t get through yet Constantine also explains that it’s not impenetrable. And clearly Trigon knows this too for he calls out a challenge.
And that’s when, in a flash of light, a tiny glowing teenager appears. He looked absolutly minuscule compared to Trigon and yet practically glowed with power (this isn’t a King Danny AU though).
And that is when the conditions for passing the barrier are revealed. And the Justice realize that the only thing stopping Trigon and his army from decimating earth. The only way he can get through….is by beating this glowing teenager in a card game.
Not just any card game though. The most convoluted game Sam, Danny, and Tucker invented themselves. It’s like the infinite realms version of magic the gathering, combined with Pokémon, and chess. And Danny is the master. So sit down Trigon and let’s play.
(The most intense card game of the Justice league’s life).
After Danny wins, this happens a few more times with outer word beings and possibly even demons attempting to invade earth, yet none have been able to beat the mysterious teenager in a card game. Constantine might even take a crack at it and try to figure out how to play. He’s really bad though. Every time this happens, the Justice league worry that this might be the time the teenager looses. Yet every time, he wins (even if only barely).
Meanwhile, Danny, Sam, and Tucker have gotten addicted to the game and play it almost daily. Some teachers might seem them playing the game are are like ‘awww how cute’ not realizing this game is literally saving the world. Jazz is just happy they aren’t spending as much time on their screens playing Doomed.
#DPxDC#dcxdp#Danny makes a card game to save the world.#Technically he worded the ritual so that they had to ‘beat’ him as those are the most powerful barriers and most reliable.#keys can just get lost or stolen (like the one to Pariah’s Coffin)#A riddle would be useless once someone figured out the answer. Like how no one takes the sphynx seriously anymore.#(Sorry Tuck. But it’s true).#And there is NO WAY Danny is just leaving a hole open for anyone to pass through. No thank you!#So…beating him. But it’s not like Danny wanted to fight so…he edited the ritual a TINY bit. Card games are good. Much less painful too.#Danny Tucker and Sam made the most complicated card game they could imagine.#It’s based on their strategies for fighting ghosts. Capturing them in thermoses. And MUCH based on a on field battle strategy.#It often requires spontaneous thinking on the spot. So Danny? In his ELEMNT. It doubles as practice for his actual ghost battles too.#They had SO much fun making this.#Sam added an entire series of plant cards that act as traps and healing ointments and duds that just take up the field.#Tucker added legitimate hyroglyphics combined with Latin as well as English and ghost speak.#Yes. You actually have to speak that language to play. With proper pronunciation. (Amity Parker’s think the three are talking gibberish.)#I headcanon Sam and Tucker are fluent in Ghost.#Constantine WILL figure this game out SO HELP HIM!#Some of the cards also have combinations related to constellations either in name or placement on the board.#By the way the board is based on a Hexagonal summoning circle with Rhunes along the edges#And the placement of the cards on the board and on what rhune MATTERS.#Also the cards move disintegrate and have certain abilities. Think of Harry Potter Wizard Chess.#But they are normal when Danny plays at school. This is just for ✨effect✨ Against invaders.#Danny faces multiple opponents. He also halts alien invasions.#While Danny COULD stop crime on earth he’s not sure how to fight a normal human and hold back so he sticks to ghosts.#The Justice league are going crazy trying to figure out who this entity is and after deep research are convinced this is some sort of#Ancient being who has protected earth for millenia. They have paintings on ruins and everything.#Danny is not aware they think this.#Raven starts praying to Danny as if he is a god and wrangles the other Teen Titans into doing so as well. Danny is still unaware of this.#Danny is not a King or an ancient. Just a very VERY strong ghost.

Escaped clone au
You know all those fics where Danny and Damian are twins but everyone first assumes Danny must be a clone? How about an au where Danny is Damian's clone who escaped the League after he was assumed dead. Damian could even have been the one to have "killed" him, back when Danny was a newly created, fully brainwashed clone minion and trying to kill Damian himself.
Danny gets adopted by the Fentons and canon goes on as normal, until Dan. Witnessing what would happen to the world should he turn evil really drove home to Danny how dangerous he is.
Even if he was confident he could be trusted with his absurd amount of power (which he isn't), what if the League of Assassins found out about him? Does he still have programming triggers from his evil assassin clone conditioning?
So, Danny does the responsible thing: he goes to Batman to turn himself in.
Cue Danny showing up on Bruce's doorstep with ghost hunting equipment, intel on the afterlife, and an almost unbelievable backstory. Somehow he still managed to be more well-adjusted than Damian.
More thoughts under the read more
Here's how I'm thinking Danny leaving the League went down:
After surviving his wounds but failing his mission, Danny (then an unnamed potential Damian replacement) knew there was no point in returning to the League. As a failure, he was meant to be disposed of. He even thought of simply allowing himself to perish, since that was what the League would do.
But he couldn't help but feel as though that would be a waste of a resource. Surely he could be of more use to the League alive than dead?
That tiny bit of rebellious logic is what caused Danny to go into hiding, only living on based on the off chance he would find opportunities to further the League's goals. Obviously, that mentality didn't last long after being exposed to the real world and meeting one Jazz Fenton.
Being adopted by the Fentons was the best cover Danny could have asked for, since any odd behavior he couldn't hide while he was learning how to be "normal" was totally overshadowed by the sheer bizarre eccentricity of his new parents. He was still the neighborhood weird kid, but even that was a major upgrade from disposable tool, so Danny considered it a win.
Anyway, if anyone likes this idea, please feel free to have at it! Interpret it as you please :)
