Testing out after effects composition (Shot 1)
So i have started to create shot 1!
I have decided to compose all my shots with after effects, there's only one problem- I am still a novice. There's going to be so much to learn throughout this whole process. But for now, I am only going to learn some basics.
I started off by drawing all my assets in animate CC, exporting them as PNG sequences and bringing them into after effects.(shown below)
One thing I have to remember every time when exporting is make sure they're exported with double the size so that I don't lose quality when I need to scale them. The only problem with this again is slow render times when previewing the animation.
Tumblr media
After bringing all the assets into after effects, I layered them together with 3D layers turned on. A few problems I ran into was testing out the depth of field with cameras, using depth of field means slower render times when previewing, and this makes the process a lot more difficult.
Notes
- Don't use depth of field with the camera is it slows down rendering speed
- Make sure the resolutions are double the size before export
- Make sure 3D layers is on and make sure all assets are in the right order

Edit: My Flatmate Megan just taught me how to use Nulls to move multiple objects together at the same time. This will come in handy in future

~wip pics of me deciding styles of bricks to fit the worlds cartoon aesthetic.
when designing toon towns buildings and producing them en-mass, I wanted to give them a uniqueness rather than being the boring square symmetrical housing, so I added crooks and slants, making them look wonky and unstable. However reality in toon town isn't the same, and such structures can exist to whatever extreme. The brick work and windows reflecting this style choise also, with the bricks being individually misshapen and jagged instead of factory-line copys-pastes. (fig 1-2)
From the outside, the windows and floors look as they'd be uncomfortable to live in, however upon entering the room itself the perceivable space becomes normally measured, despite outside observers seeing no change, as if by a trick of camera work or movie magic. (fig 3)

-Pictures from the comic "BONE" to show my investigation into panel layout and speech bubble spacing. I had read these comic before, but only recently I the bought the full series. This comic dose a very good job on displaying alot of action and visuals by making good use of small panel sizes. With lengthy dialoge I want to play around with how I can fit the bubbles in or just outside the planel on the edges, perhaps to add an effect of monologuing or forethought.

These webtoon comics ive read helps put into perspective how to manage my page space, dialoge and how to convey a coherent story with minimal pages.

A comic by one of my favourite artists, put together over the course of 6 years with monthly updates. After reading this comic I have taken into mind the length of how much I will need to shorten my comic in order to fit the 30-40 page threshold, and will need to revise frame size and orientations to squeeze as much vital information on a page.
