"10 Together" WINS Best Publication Award at PQ2023
In their beautifully crafted book, the authors document and critically question the 10 years of their collaboration across time, across national and continental borders, and against cultural expectations. Playful and poetic in their practice, Longva and Carpenter explore basic human needs in a variety of settings, often physically tasking. They pose questions about the rare and raw predicament of being a vulnerable and fragile human in a world in crisis. —Pavel Drábek, Best Publication Award curator with jurors Donatella Barbieri and Aziza Kadyri

I visited the PQ festival (Prague Quadriennale), it is a festival about scenography and theater space. It was amazing. PQ, it's similar to Eurovision, only smaller and it's like a big modern art exhibition.
This is the scenography by the Czech author David Možný.
His work was one of the best and I am glad that he represented the Czech Republic.
CZECHREPUBLIC/ LIMBOHARDWARE David Možný
I will probably show other works that excited me, such as Slovakia, Portugal and others.

Re: your comments on there being a lot of underappreciation for the laborer aka people actually working behind the scenes to fully realize kpop concepts beyond the idol, I’ve seen comments floating recently about kpop stans being unhappy that Min Heejin is publicly talking about New Jeans and how she should just fade away now that “her work is done” and they’re popular now.
I’m sure some of this is fed by the dislike of her in some corners of fandom (which is a whole different discussion), but it’s struck me as extremely dismissive of literally everyone’s input to an idols success beyond the idols themselves. I may not be in love with some of the creative choices from the latest new jeans concept, but i honestly wish we got more public input from creative teams on how they are creating the holistic experience of a kpop release rather than less. It’s so interesting to see all the work that goes into it and I always end up appreciating the whole package more when I see that. So it makes me sad to watch people demean all this work that goes into things so they can hold onto this weird delusion that artists are solitary pillars that do it themselves.
i...........why are people unhappy with her saying that...???????? yea she's the head creative but the group isn't literally about her???? it's not like she's gonna vanish??????? i don't even........man what the fuck is happening in kpop stan spaces sometimes.
kpop does have a real issue with pedestalling particular people specifically because literally the idol's job is to be the face of the project. so that combined with the lack of arts education combined with how the kpop industry purposefully protects staff identities exacerbates the problem. at least with intl fans. from what people have told me it's generally pretty acknowledged by the sk gp that kpop is a collective effort and there are big teams involved, and idols are just the face. i do really wish there was more education and ability for production people to talk about their work, but the truth is that most of us work behind the camera for a reason; we're not particularly interested in being in front of it and neither are we interesting or catchy by camera standards. also most of the time we're too busy. there are definitely some places where designers have talked about their processes and how they work (the abstract series on netflix is great for that) and designers will sometimes give talks so if you know names you can go searching for them if they get filmed (also rare sadly), plus there are two big theatre design conventions that happen every two years (prague quadrennial and world stage design, they alternate like the olympics), but a lot of stuff just hasn't spread outside of the industry because people are unwilling to break that auteur myth, again because it weakens the people in positions of power.

You wanted a murder 2011
Performance for: 2011 Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space, 16-26/06/2011 2011 Gwangju Design Biennale (Artistic Directors: Ai WeiWei and Seung H-Sang), 02/09 – 23/10/2011
The performance, “You wanted a murder”, was conceived in response to an invitation by curatorial collective N as part of the Australian contribution for the 2011 Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space. A set of written instructions describing the performance was given to N who was in charge of executing the script and documenting the action with one single photograph – taken by a team operating a custom-made camera Obscura mounted on a truck.
This performance questions one of the claims made by Bernard Tschumi in his Advertisements for Architecture (1976-1977) series: “To really appreciate architecture you may even need to commit a murder”, further examining, as Tschumi states, “the dissociation between the immediacy of spatial experience and the analytical definition of theoretical concepts”. “You wanted a murder” avoids the usual space of the gallery or theatre and uses the street as a setting. ‘[T]he event’ – a fundamental architectural concept forwarded by Tschumi – is inverted, literally turned against him through the symbolic staging of a murder. The script calls for the character, B.T., to be run over. In doing so, the truck with the camera obscura is not only implicated as the witness but also the weapon.
The performance is significant to the architectural field as it speculates on the death of ‘the event’. The potential of the confrontation between the human body and the physical space is diminishing to the benefit of what Francois Ascher describes in Metapolis (1995) as “hyperplace”: a space with n-dimensions, combining physical and virtual dimensions based on hypertext structure and telecommunications technologies.
Script for performance: You wanted a murder. / 09.01.2011, 12:00 am / Chippendale, NSW, Australia / from Regent Street turn left into Wellington Street / pull over near number 39. Do not turn off engine / read again written instructions given to you / wait / soon, B.T. (you will recognize him) will be walking towards you, coming from Balfour Street / high acceleration to hit and run over B.T. near number 19 / stop truck 4 meters away from the body and document event / leave the scene

Johann Merrich’s Brevi Storie: The EMS Series
Johann Merrich’s Brevi Storie [Short Stories] inaugurates a new chapter dedicated to the past, present and future of Electronic Music Studios: are EMS still active? Who works there and how? The podcast series includes a collection of interviews, sounds and music to discover EMS’ legacies and new talents.
Episode #5 From Istanbul to Berlin is dedicated to the history of Turkish electronic music, narrated by Başak Günak. 🎧 LISTEN HERE
Berlin-based, Istanbul born Başak Günak is a musician, composer and sound artist, also internationally known as AH! KOSMOS in the field of electronic music. She released two LPs from Compost Records & Denovali Records and numerous EPs. Both timeless and otherworldly, Günak’s work unconsciously defies being tied to a genre, tapping into something beyond an immediate surrounding or experience to communicate something more transcendental. Günak uses polyrhythms, electronic composition and found sounds to build a mystical world of modulation into which one can sink and be carried away.Günak pursues her sound experimentations as a sound artist, composing soundscapes for theater, contemporary dance, film and visual art projects, and realising site-specific performances. Her works have been featured worldwide in several festivals and institutions, such as Barbican Theatre, Berlin CTM, Sonar Festival, Rotterdamse Schouwburg, Kunstmuseum Basel, Prague Quadrennial and Istanbul International Theatre Festival. In 2020, she presented her latest solo sound installation THE WELL, a piece for 11 speakers and performance in VKV Museum Istanbul. In 2021, she has done composition and sound design for Berlin State Museums, Kunstmuseum Basel and granted a residency in HELLERAU for her upcoming sound installation. Currently, she is working on compositions for a project in Martin-Gropius Bau.

Prague Quadrennial Best Publication Award Short List.
“The Norwegian publication '10 Together: Performances by Longva+Carpenter 2010–2020' (PABlish Forlag) is a beautiful and even moving account documenting and reflecting on a decade of collaborative work between artists Laurel Jay Carpenter (USA) and Terese Longva (Norway) that they realised across half a dozen countries in the Northwestern sphere.
[…]
Of particular importance are the works that examine feminist, post-colonial, decolonial, intercultural and ecological perspectives, given the current state of affairs. Furthermore, the presence of practice-based publications, such as '10 Together' […] in the “Competing” list, alongside academic works, is equally significant. This inclusion has the potential to foster a more equitable environment and horizontal space…”
