Love the character creation videos for candela obscura, it's so fascinating to see how they make characters not just in this system but also in general. I also LOVE how CO seems to have character connections built in, cause like listen I didn't realize just how important coming in with those mattered so much until I listened to unprepared casters and they established ties in every episode 0 and we did that in my first game since listening to it

NA's weird month-early stints have made it harder, but generally if you want to predict an approximate JP-to-NA date you add 2 to the year and count backwards something like ~2 weeks from the date. you can subtract more or less from the date if you want to assume something might start earlier or later for safety reasons. you can also look at the time gap between it and an immediate previous event to help guess. or you can just ask me if you want.

that's excluding events that are directly around the anniv though, anniv season is always a shitshow.

I don't know, guys. I saw people having problems with Ashton having trust issues with the rest of the Hells (except Fearne). A character who had been broken twice (well, thrice now), left alone to die by a group of friends who they considered a family, having trust issue with a new group they traveled with for few months? That totally makes sense to me?

(Also, I just want to remind you that The Nobodies were Ashton's friends from the orphanage. They literally grew up together, yet they left him for dead. The betrayal cut them so deep they overjustified it for the longest time and agreed to be Jianna Hexum's errand dog just so she wouldn't chase them down instead of being angry like a normal person would)

I feel like Ashton totally treasures Bells Hells now, but I don't think Ashton thinks that the Hells treasure him as much. With the Hells, they find a role to fulfill, a purpose, and a chance to make a difference in the world, but let's be real, no one has been really checking in on Ashton. And it's no one's fault, shit has been happening. I just think that the precampaign connection between characters serves as a bridge for Hells to truly have meaningful conversations with each other but Ashton and FCG were never really tight to begin with. After split reunion made it so obvious lol. Ashton had no one to go to. I wouldn't be surprised if Ashton feels like they're just tolerating their presence.

I'm not saying Ashton should not trust the Hells, I will be happy for them when that time comes, hopefully soon, but it's understandable that they are not there yet.

Troubling

some precampaign, pre-truly knowing each other, laudna and imogen stuff!

Laudna doesn’t know how to heal. It was never truly a concern before. Her body knits itself back together no matter how fatal the injury. Learned that the hard way, after a cleric sent her fleeing into the jungles and nearly onto the blade of their sword-wielding friend. That had been difficult to escape from, though she had managed with some tricky darkness and a quick climb up the limbs of a too-tall tree. She could probably manage it better now, with her newly earned friend and her sweet-toothed charm. Imogen groans beside her, likely hearing the shift of Laudna’s thoughts, which makes the situation resituate itself in her mind.

The blade hadn’t punctured deep, at least from Laudnas less than professional eye. The blood made it difficult, stymied and pooling under the yellow scarf that she was pressing against the wound. Imogen groans again, eyes flickering open briefly before her bag floats, unsteadily, across the camp to land in a lump beside them.

“Y’handy with a needle and thread?” Imogen’s voice is pained, her right hand clumsy as it digs through the rough-worn pack. Glass and metal clink together as she pulls a metal canteen out, the cork getting popped out easily.

“I embroidered this shirt and dress, stitching you up shouldn’t be too much trouble.” Laudna watches as Imogen nudges the hand putting pressure on the wound away, the scarf along with it as Imogen tears the rest of her shirt off of the wound. Her stomach flexes as she takes a deep breath. It’s a distracting display of vitality, which means Laudna misses the next words from Imogen. She just watches as Imogen pours a healthy amount of liquid onto the cut, hissing hard through the pain, before grunting and jutting her chin toward their unfortunate dinner guest.

“Clerics usually have some bandages on ‘em, and I got needle and thread in my pack if you wanna use that. I’ll take care’a cleanin’ this if you wanna get that stuff all ready?” Imogen’s voice, while laced thick with pain, is clear and commanding, sending Laudna automatically to her feet to root through the spattered pouches of the dwarf. Bandages found, she walks on her knees back to Imogens side, hand already pulling free a length of her own red thread.

“Nonsense, this thread has served me well for patching up both my clothes and myself from time to time. Plus I think red rather suits your skin, don’t you think?”

The one shot went super well!! I was really proud of the way it turned out 😄

I meant to reply to this message earlier but I was so fucking tired after the session last night and then I had another pre-campaign one shot with a different character today too

Yesterday's session went for five hours, which was longer than I intended, but also I wasn't surprised that it went so long. I got a little feedback on how I did, and what I can improve on going forwards, which is important

Today's session was only about 2 hours long, but was much simpler because I came up with the idea literally just a few hours before the player came round for the session 😅

And because @geekate asked - these are my session notes! Some I follow along and read out during the session as a narrator, others are plot points or beats I wanted players to hit, and also a few I added in of things that the players did of their own initiative, so I realise I change how I write things at times

I'm also aware that these are very narrative/exposition heavy, which is not how my notes will always be moving forwards, I hope, I just needed to push PC's in a very specific direction to get everyone on the same page for when the campaign does start

RULES and INNA

Inna is trying to learn as much about themself as they are the world and all the stories within it. They are naturally curious, and often seem detached but they are always about consent. Please keep that in mind.

Inna is for the most part ASEXUAL- but Demiromantic. In the campaign Inna does have a romantic interest, though I doubt that sex will ever be a thing that happens. I do welcome questions though.

Please don't god mod a situation if we roleplay at all, though it will be precampaign or happen before/during the week leading to a session.

If you would like to interact with just Inna and no campaign I am willing to oblige.

If we are writing I prefer at least a paragraph or more, more than three sentences, past tense, 3rd person.
