I have horrible news. I just learned that Hewie passed away today. His stomach was full of tumors and he didn't survive the operation.

Hes wasn't my dog anymore but he WAS my dog and I am so heartbroken. I'm reliving the pain I had when I lost my first dog, Angel. The family Hewie was with is absolutely heartbroken too. Why did this have to happen? He was still so young too.

I didn't even get to visit him once, I didn't even get him to meet Iggy. I didn't even get to have him and Roy visit eachother so they'd know they're ok.

I decided to write a little fic about Javier and your OC Thomas (go check him out) along with Thomas’ dog, Hewie. I hope you like it! I also hope my Spanish is alright here too. Despite being Mexican myself, my Spanish kinda sucks lol. Also there’s some french. That was a hit or miss if google translate is actually accurate. Feel free to correct me so I can fix them.

It was well into the evening, the sun having set an hour ago in Lemoyne.

Since making their camp in Clemens Point, Javier had long been meaning to do some fishing. Not many things ever brought him peace as the sound of fish swimming in the waters. It was one of his favorite things to do here in the states. In Mexico, the weather at times would be so dry and arid. The rare rainstorm would only fall in what felt like a lifetime. You would have to travel far north or south to see any water.

Back in the now, Javier thought about asking someone to come with him. He'd ask Thomas, his love, to come, but the man would get so impatient sitting around. Him and his dog, Hewie, would soon end up in the pond or lake wrestling with the fishes than use a pole. It was a funny idea, but not one he'd like to repeat again.

Maybe Arthur? He knew something about fishing.

He did, but he wasn't much of a fisherman, or so he claims. He was obviously full of shit.

"You just need some practice, patience, and the right gear. Anyone could do it."

When they returned to camp, it was eleve, and they carried back a bag of fish. This should keep Pearson happy for a while.

The two men tie their horses to the posts and drop off their fish with Pearson. And that's when Javier hears him.

"My love, where have you been?"

It was Thomas, bottle in hand, running up towards him and wrapping his arms around him .

"I missed you too," Javier chuckles, hugging him back. "I went fishing with Arthur. Just wanted to have some quiet and catch a few fish. What's got you in a good mood?"

"Mmm!" Thomas takes another swig from his bottle, whiskey from the smell of it. "Me, Hewie, Sean, and Lenny heard rumors about a homestead a few miles west of here. We took a look and found some hidden goodies in the basement. We think it was abandoned or hidden by a group, maybe O'Driscolls. But enough about that! Celebrate with me, please! Drink with me!"

"I think you've had enough to drink for the both of us."

"Don't be mean, love. Come on! Me and Hewie have missed you."

A gathering in the camp was well underway with the celebration that Thomas, Sean, and Lenny had brought thanks to their recent findings.

"Don't forget Hewie, my little furry guy! He was a big help!"

It was well past two and many of the gang members had decided to go to bed.

After a few drinks, Javier had brought out his guitar and sang a few songs. Thomas had joined him during the first few, but then got tired and instead made his place next to him with his head on his shoulder as he continued singing and playing.

Despite the drinks, Thomas kept his eye out for Hewie. He was with them for awhile, sitting on his lap and letting him comb his dark fur with his finger and readjusting the bandana around the cattle dog’s neck. He had since ran off somewhere, probably hiding under someone's cot.

His eyes were drooping when his love speaks to him.

“Come on, you’re drunk.”

Thomas gasps, eyes wide and brows raised.

“You taking me somewhere? Where are we going, mon amour?”

“To bed, that’s where.”

Thomas’ expression drops as Javier got up and pulled him up by the hand. The two start to walk off towards Thomas’ tent.

“Where’s Hewie?” The more sober man asks.

“He’s uh,” Thomas hiccups, “he was with me by the fire earlier...then he got up and walked around the camp. I saw him with Pearson, and then with Mary Beth. It was so cute! She sometimes lets him sit on her lap and reads to him and-”

“Que boca tienes,” Javier says to himself, fighting back a smile.

He keeps on talking, even as they reach the tent only just a ways east of where the majority of camp slept. It was mostly because Hewie was very “vocal” with the horses.

Thomas’ tent was of a decent size, holding a cot and table inside of it. It looked a lot like John’s and gave him and Hewie shelter that they weren’t too used to. It’s been their home since they joined the gang.

Entering the tent, the answer to Javier’s question was brought to light.

“Oh, there’s Hewie. He’s on your bed.”

This got Thomas to shut up. Or at least got him to change the subject.

“Hewie! Mon petit chou!”

He stumbles out of Javier’s grasp, taking blind steps towards his cot and throwing himself on there, promptly waking the dog up.

“Bonjour, monsieur! How are you this evening?”

Hewie, still in a haze, tilts his head and gives a great yawn.

“You know your French comes out a lot more when you’re drunk,” Javier laughs. “Come on, perrito. Your bed’s over here.”

Javier helps Hewie down the cot and gently lays him down in his little makeshift bed nearby. It consisted of a pillow filled with hay and an old blanket that once belonged to Jack when he was younger. Hewie didn’t seem to mind. He was rather fond of it.

“Guess I remember it better after a drink or two,” Thomas smiles.

“Let’s get you ready for bed.”

“But I’m already in bed.”

“I mean, ready to go to sleep. Get up, yayúdame por favor.”

Groaning, the drunk man takes his time rolling himself out of his cot and to his feet. It takes everything for Javier to not laugh. It’s like watching a baby stand up for the first time.

“Careful,” he says, putting a hand on Thomas’ shoulders, “I don’t want you falling on me.”

“Too late, ma chérie.” This got a chuckle from Javier.

“Que lindo.”

When he looks like he isn’t going to topple over on him, Javier goes to unbuckle Thomas’ holster, laying it gently on the nearby table by his other possessions. Next is his waistcoat and it is quickly unbuttoned and removed.

Thomas starts giggling, hands sliding themselves around Javier’s waist, pulling him close.

“If you wanted to mess around, you should’ve told me.”

“I don’t. I’m helping you get ready for bed. Plus, you’re drunk, and I don’t like doing it in camp. People are so nosey here.”

“Don’t start. I’ll make it up to you another time, okay?”

The drunk man pouts, but nods nonetheless. Arms still wrapped around his love, Thomas pulls Javier into an embrace, burying his spinning head against his neck. He smells faintly of gun powder and cologne, the latter of which had quickly became a favorite.

Javier wraps his own arms around him, nuzzling his nose into his hair. Thomas reeked of whiskey and wet dog, not entirely unpleasant, but it was better than blood.

“Come on, we’re almost done. Just your boots now.”

Thomas sat himself back down on the cot. He removes his boots himself, only needing Javier’s help with the straight blade he hid in one of them. That was also put on the table.

When that was all set and done, Thomas threw his legs over the cot and made himself comfortable.

“There we go,” Javier spoke, “Good night, mi amor.”

“Wait, where are you going?”

Javier was already nearing the entrance of the tent.

“To bed, that’s where.”

In a rush, Thomas sits himself up, nearly falling out of his cot in the process. He throws his arms out, both out of balance and to open invitation.

“What do you want, a hug?”

Thomas shakes his head.

“Well, yes. But no. Non. Can you stay? I wanna cuddle. We don’t have to do anything, I just wanna be close.”
