Let’s talk about: Free Will vs Pre-Determination

This is a hot ass topic in the spiritual community, do we have free will? Is it all pre-determined? Yes and yes! Let’s explain.

What is Free Will?

The concept of free will is that you as an individual have the power to make choices that can change your path.

What is Pre-Determination?

The concept of pre-determination is the concept that everything you do is already planned out and cannot be changed.

So how is it both?

Good question! To understand, first you need to grasp that the universe is infinite and all things can exist at once. The way I understand it is that before we incarnate, we meet up with soul connections and our team and map out set points, kind of like when you outline a paper. Here are points that I will hit this life. These can be relationships, living certain places, working in a certain field, etc.

As you live your life, you craft the parts in between the set points. Just like when you write and let it flow. Sometimes you may go down pathways you didn’t anticipate as you create, but your team will pull you back to the main point if they need to. I affectionately call it being yanked because to me it feels like the universe is grabbing me by the hair and putting me in a new place. Usually because I’m rebellious and stubborn and can get lost in the story.

I realized an illustration might help you visualize what I mean. So the purple stars are pre-determined points and the blue lines are the different path choices you can make to get to that point, depending on how you branch out from your last main decision/turning point.

Now every single possible action you take between points has also been mapped out, where you have free will is choosing between these paths. When you make a decision, an alternate you makes the other choice, but we’ll talk about alternate worlds and selves later. Now when people mention jumping timelines, they are referring to the idea that you may be on one path but by making a new and radical decision you jump over the other timelines, it’s like a sideways jump.

No path is better, but some may be more direct and some may avoid certain hmmm experiences you’d rather avoid that can be painful. It doesn’t mean you learn less by not going down the most painful path, it means you may have evolved enough to not need to learn that way anymore. Once you really grasp this, you can look back at your life and see the outlined points and see the different paths you could’ve taken, and also see the way spirit nudged you or tried to help you see more clearly your next upcoming point. It’s crazy because when your mind is set on something, you may not have even seen the signs for the next point until you see it right up ahead. And then you look back like oh I never saw that sign! But wow.

Tips:

- following your instinct and impulses usually puts you on the most direct path to where you are going, but do not shame yourself for taking the scenic route.

- the idea of better or worse isn’t quite right, think of it as having options and then follow the option that feels best for you.

- you can hop timelines anytime by taking control of your life. If you are on a timeline you don’t like anymore, you feel stagnant or something, you can shift your energy to timeline jump. For me, I was unhappy at a job and to timeline jump, I introduced a new way of viewing my life by adding more presentness and curiosity. This allowed me to speed up by getting on a faster route to my next major decision point, which was moving.

In another post I’m going to go extensively into explaining the concept of time. And that may help with some more understanding of timelines and alternate selves/universes.

Do you believe in luck? As in, do you believe there are many possible futures, or that there is only one possible future that is already decided?

I don't know.

If you ask me some days, I'll say everything is just cause and effect. But then, randomness can at least exist at the quantum level, so can that create randomness at higher levels?

And then other days, I feel a guiding hand of fate. Which is silly, because I don't believe in the supernatural or gods or spirits... but...

My host's mom can be a tad pushy about things. Recently, she was pushing my host to decorate his room, and he didn't want to. She got annoyed, and went into our room to decorate it herself. That's obviously frustrating. But what she decorated it with were these red and black circles she bought online. And so, this is the symbol on our wall now.

She had not idea about the plural rings until my host showed her later, and was legitimately shocked.

So... what was this? Was it coincidence? Luck? I mean, it is a pretty obvious arrangement if you get a package of circles and there are only four of each size. If she had gotten a package with 5 rings of the same size, it likely would looked like the olympics.

But it's an interesting coincidence that of everything she could have bought, she chose these circles... that they came in a package with four of each size... that she chose this specific arrangement for the one plural system in the house...

The chances of all of this going as it did seem incredible to me.

But then, life is constantly rolling dice, and you only notice when the results are interesting. If you roll a pair of 100-sided dice, getting doubles is remarkable. But you roll that pair a thousand times, and it's almost guaranteed that you'll roll multiple doubles. And if you don't see the rolls that aren't doubles, you might get the impression of this chance being something grander.

So, I don't know. Is the universe guided by luck, fate, destiny, random chance, predeterminism? I don't really know the answer to that.

"But what if the future is predetermined? What if your destiny is inescapable?"

You know, I really like stories about time travel where the characters go back in time to try and change the past only to realise that events turned out the way they did originally because those characters went back in time to do the things they did.

Think Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, or if you prefer that episode of Futurama in which Fry becomes his own grandfather.

Well in this theory of time travel it proves predetermination, because all of time already exists the way it is and cannot be altered.

The way I like to think of it though, is like this: You do get to determine your own future, you just already made up all your decisions simultaneously the moment time was created.

Perhaps that's not exactly comforting if you worry about predetermination. It's more of a cop-out that allows for both conditions of coexist.

walking a thin line

on one side, healthy standards of self-dignity and respect now established

on the other, well-worn patterns of submission and deference to another's will

which to choose?

a soul contract as of yet incomplete

her true role still undetermined in our unfolding fated story

for my own part, promises kept oath fulfilled in humble honor

but the final outcome remains hidden

i have felt her fear in real time

experiencing intense muscle memory of old trauma

thus, her standoffish self-protection measures

are fully justified

the question is: what takes greater priority?

her nonreciprocity based in fear & self-doubt

or my newly minted code of interpersonal ethics

proximate riddle yet to be solved via compromise or other means

accordingly, my balancing act continues...

which side to fall on:

involuntary acquiescence or self-actualized decisiveness?

perhaps a third option exists

leaving her alone to focus on my own needs

Life is never fair. From the moment you are bored your life is never your own. You are born then you are set in a system that repeats itself. Example 2 babies born at the exact same time are destined to go 2 different routes in life. Baby A, great life no health issues. No genetic problems or mental illness. They are the ideal choice to do anything they want in life. They just have to strive for it. But that’s wrong. As they grow they focus on the parents lifestyle and want to be better for “family”, Not oneself. Then they do everything they can for that reason. No ‘real’ choice of their own. Now we go to Baby B, they are bored with a type of physical disability. Growing up different from Baby A they have to get more help in everything and support from their “family”. As the grow up different they notice how much of a burden they are to everyone. They strive to do everything Baby A does but can’t. Judgement is seen from their peers eyes. Everyday they put on a fake smile and hope someone will love them more than they love themselves. But the back other mind is always that thought “Why am I born different from everyone else” and “how can I take hold of my life”. The one they always have but lock up in their mind is “If I had the chance I want someone to give me the chance to change my fate”

☕️📱 Taking a coffee break, mundane things caught my eye. Not my usual subjects to shoot. Manmade rather than natural. But what even is 'natural' anymore? And aren't humans part of nature, therefore anything we create, too? By that definition, everything is natural. Consisting of natural elements within our universe. Opposed to anything supernatural which, of course, cannot be and never has been demonstrated to exist. 🌎 Back to reality - at what point does something deserve the attribute 'natural' and when does it become artificial? 🐺🐶 Are dogs natural, even though humans interfered with evolution by natural selection to domesticate and selectively breed them from wolves over millennia? The same goes for (genetically unmodified) crops we cultivate nowadays. Are birds' nests natural although a thinking agent is building them, even if using natural resources? 🤔 And if agency or consciousness was a criterion, we'd have to talk about the concept of free will first. One could argue that free will doesn't exist. 🌌️✨ That everything in this universe was predetermined since the beginning (if there was one). That every atom and every molecule was bound to behave exactly the way it did, conforming to the laws of physics. So everything that ever happened couldn't have happened any other way. 🧬 From the first formation of life through chemical reactions to billions of years later, today. "Science reveals you to be a biochemical puppet. People's thoughts and intentions emerge from background causes of which we are unaware and over which we exert no conscious control. Every choice we make is made as a result of preceding causes. These choices we make are determined by those causes, and are therefore not really choices at all." - Sam Harris But hey, at least we're capable of thinking about things like that if we 'choose' to do so. We could also just carelessly enjoy the time given to us without deeper thoughts about our existence. For some people, this very subject IS part of the fun and enjoyment, though. All is as Shall Be

The acceptance of the Big Bang as the beginning of our physical universe and our existence has logically led us to the conclusion that all physical interactions are predictable and predetermined, provided one has all the physical factors, influences, and interactions. Our technology is not there yet to be able to collect, analyze, and predict all behaviors.

What if there are non-physical interactions? Science assumes that all energy, all causes of movement, are found within the object. Another assumption is that at every point in space and at every moment in time the force is expanding in all directions at the speed of light (an interaction of a 4D hypersphere with our 3D world) and moves all objects (similar to the electricity moving all characters in a computer video game). The Ancient mystics experienced this expanding force. I call it the Source.

There’s a famous story in the Gnostic Secret Gospel of Mark (Mystic Gospel of Mark) in which Jesus raised a naked boy from his tomb. The naked boy is our dormant-like part of our existence. Jesus is the connection, the link, the channel to the Source. The tomb is our physical body. We are dead, as all objects can not move on their own accord, but are moved by the Source.

So, in simple terms, all the events that have happened and are happening now are from the Source moving all the objects. The objects themselves and the nature of the objects are the result and conclusion from previous interactions. For example, you are angry and mad because someone called you a name, or stole something of importance from you. Your anger did not originate from that event, but is an accumulation of previous experiences. All these previous experiences result in what you are right now: physically, emotionally, and mentally. This is like etching a path in the sand and allowing the water to flow through that path. Your experiences and reactions to these experiences are your reactions automatically etching this path.

What is happening now in the world are all these paths being etched from previous experiences. All is as Shall Be. This is the only outcome, unless, there is an awakening of the dormant-like part. The dormant-like part is the small piece of the Source. This then becomes part of the stick the stirs and moves all. One is no longer a part of this predictable and predetermined world, but is free forever! One can sit back and observe without becoming dragged into it and perceive, All is as Shall Be.
