Hi, I’m Kristen, and I am 33 years old.

I have Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, and I attended my first pre-med class 4,156 days after my diagnosis.

I used to be an active EDS blogger on tumblr around 2009-2013, but I had to abruptly stop after being involved in a car accident. I also am a cofounder of the EDS support group for South Carolina, which has about 1600 members.

I am back to blogging to write about my journey of becoming a doctor because I think more patients should become doctors.

First off, I want to thank all of you for your support and encouragement! There are lot of new people on here so I thought I’d take this time to introduce myself. My name is Reen, I’m a first year medical student. I have a special interest in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, and Women’s Health. I’m also interested in medical journalism and storytelling. It's been a long while my friends! Tomorrow I finish my rotation in Pediatrics and I'll be doing my final oral exam. We have to collect a history from a patient, organize it and write it down and then present it to an attending as well as answering a couple of questions. I'm a little nervous but I also know I've been working hard. Whatever happens tomorrow, I know I will do my best and that's all you can ask for in clinic rotations.

So I took the Kaplan diagnostic adapted for the new 2020 exam (so 4 and got a 484 (7th precentile)

Here is my score break down:

Biology/Biochem - 120

CARS - 122

Chemistry/Physical Sciences - 120

Psychology/Sociology - 122

Now my next step is to make an excel spreadsheet of the questions I got wrong or guessed right! I will take a picture/share a template of what it looks like when I start it.

My list of resources is still in the making~ (kindly wait for it, but in the meantime reddit is an AMAZING source of free information and resources)

07.26.19. Wasn’t as productive today lols. I did nothing in the afternoon but went to the gym at around 4pm (was my first time tho). Now I’m cramming this reading lmao, it’s long that’s why I got pretty discouraged. Anyway I’ll do questions once I get home. IT’S WEEK 5 Y’ALL

AND I’VE BEEN PRODUCTIVE. I PROMISE.

My semester didn’t start off too great butttt things are getting better by the day. Today was actually super productive and I can’t wait to keep this streak going. And I need to get used to uploading more frequently :)

I recently started studying organic chemistry again as prep for the MCAT. (It’s great). Aaaand I’m taking a sociology elective this summer which I love. It has been super interesting and informative (duh). Really enjoying this Soci minor so far

Officially finished my first week of classes and boy oh boy did it pass by slowly 😅 I’ll be taking Thermodynamics this quarter which is a prerequisite course for Physical Biochemistry next quarter. Knowing my strengths & weaknesses, I have a feeling that this class is going to be a bit challenging this quarter.
