nah i get that lady from rwrb because imagine you open a wardrobe and the prince of fucking england is in there half naked. i, too, would need to sit the fuck down
alex struggling to say the word bisexual outloud. the way he stumbled and fought to push the word past his teeth. he knew he was bi in this and admitted to having been with guys in the past to nora, but he still stumbled over the word. because it's a big deal. hearing it be said out loud - multiple times - was so validating. the way henry allowed alex the space and the time to get the words out that he was struggling with. i'm never gonna stop loving them
The RWRB movie, albeit different from the book, had re-awakened my feelings about those two disaster men. And everyone in that narrative universe tbh. These are some of the moments that scratch my brain real good, a mix of movie and book ones. And the women. June we miss you <3 :(
I read 50-ish pages of RWRB this afternoon, and I sobbed through the Rafael Luna affair, through "do you feel forever about him?" and the Waterloo letters, and at this point, the only way that I'll consider this movie to be excellent is if it makes me cry as much as that damned book does.
Okay ya'll, I just finished my RW&RB reread and I wanna share my thoughts before watching the movie.
Cause the thing is, I fucking love this book. I've never been able to read it without crying, which imo is the mark of a great piece of art.
But it's never been Alex and Henry that made me cry. I love them and their relationship (the emails? They make me melt every time) but it's pretty standard romcom fare.
You wanna know what it is that makes me cry?
It's fiercely protective sisters
It's a president willing to back her queer son
It's a man willing to risk his career to stop a predator
It's a princess standing up against her mum for her son
It's the public marching in support of two queer men, outed in the most horrible way
It's queer secret service personnel joining the crowds
It's giving the women the spotlight during that first election
It's a group of people genuinely trying to make the world a better place
