This post is a review of a new “trump book,” this one entitled, “The Divider: Trump in the White House,” by Peter Baker and Susan Glasser, published online by The New Yorker on Monday morning. (Mr. Baker is the chief White House correspondent for The New York Times; Ms. Glasser is a staff writer for The New Yorker.)
If you subscribe to The New Yorker, you can read an excerpt from this book, entitled, “Inside the War Between Trump and His Generals” at this link. The intro to the excerpt from this book tells us:
“Throughout his Presidency, Trump had sought to redefine the role of the military in American public life,” Susan B. Glasser and Peter Baker write, in a disturbing report in this week’s issue. Excerpted from their forthcoming book, the piece examines how Trump’s fracturing relationship with his national-security officials turned into a war.
In 2017, Trump returned from a trip to Paris for Bastille Day, resolved to have American generals throw him an extravagant military parade for the Fourth of July. “I’d rather swallow acid,” his Defense Secretary at the time, James Mattis, said.
Trump once loudly complained to his chief of staff John Kelly, saying, “You fucking generals, why can’t you be like the German generals?” “Which generals?” Kelly asked. “The German generals in World War II,” Trump responded.
During the Black Lives Matter protests, in 2020, Trump, eager for a show of force in Lafayette Square, shouted at Mark Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, “Can’t you just shoot them? Just shoot them in the legs or something?”
From reading the excerpt published in The New Yorker, I’ve learned that the morons around trump after election day 2020 failed in their coup attempts only because they were just plain dumb. If trump had surrounded himself with smarter people who weren’t simply trying to “please the boss,” the coup might have been carried to the point of a conflict with the US military. That’s frightening.

Hannity and Other Fox Employees Said They Doubted Trump’s Fraud Claims - The New York Times
Hannity and Other Fox Employees Said They Doubted Trump’s Fraud Claims – The New York Times
Mr. Hannity’s disclosure – along with others that emerged from court on Wednesday about what Fox News executives and hosts really believed as their network became one of the loudest megaphones for lies about the 2020 election – is among the strongest evidence yet to emerge publicly that some Fox employees knew that what they were broadcasting was false. Defamation Case: Some of the biggest…

Trump is now lying and saying Sidney Powell was never his attorney. Here is Rudy Giuliani in November 2020 introducing Sidney Powell as a lawyer for both Donald Trump and the Trump campaign.

There is a reason the military is loyal to the nation, not to the president. Described herein is the tyranny the Republican Party enabled by defending Trump and by seeking illegally to overturn the results of the 2020 election. In his own words, Trump wanted to be a fascist dictator, modelling himself after Hitler. That he was not immediately removed by his own party makes them all complicit. The Republican Party is unfit to ever govern again. The republic will not survive another GOP administration. They are all traitors, violators of their oaths to protect and serve the nation and the Constitution. You can imagine the fate I feel should await them all on that charge.
As for Milley, he’s an opportunist trying to save his own skin. Had he really cared so much about the country, he’d have publicized the threat Trump posed prior to the election. He’d have leaked everything he could in order to convince the country of what a vote of Trump represented. Instead, he chose small acts of resistance that were, while useful, a sliver of what his contribution could have been given how close run a thing the election was.
Had Trump won, what would Milley have had the courage to do to remove him from office?

Despite living through the idiocy of every excruciating moment of the Trump Era, I somehow still find myself amazed at how fucking stupid these crimes are after reading the unsealed indictment. They are reckless and dangerous and serious violations of national security, but also just straight-up dumb. So goddamn dumb. I’m actually surprised that I am still finding ways to be shocked at the stupidity of this one supremely ignorant person. And at the fact that, after four years of having HIM as President of the United States, nearly 75 million Americans voted for him again.

Opinion | No One Knows What to Do About Trump’s 2024 Campaign - The New York Times
Opinion | No One Knows What to Do About Trump’s 2024 Campaign – The New York Times
Everyone knows by now how many Trump candidates lost this year, especially the higher-profile, more hard-core ones who claimed the 2020 election was stolen. The Democrats even added on in Georgia on Tuesday, with the same, central animating force behind each development: that Donald Trump forced his party to run a candidate, Herschel Walker, who lost, weakening Mr. Trump and the party – a mutual…

“It was the single gutsiest and most consequential act of the entire post-election battle. And it’s all because of this one young woman,” says Michael Isikoff, co-author of "Find Me the Votes,” on the inside story of the Trump Georgia phone call.
