Ah, my apartment is livable again

#Ehehehe #Also I figured out wtf was going on with the programming on my thermostat #So hopefully that works as I think it will #Gotta warm the place back up if I'm gonna have snails in here #Turned the numbers way down in a vain attempt to get the ac to do literally anything #Also the manual gave no info on how to program the dang thing and it was NOT intuitive #I was like why tf is there like 4 options for each day #But it's so you can set the temp when you wake up leave the house come back and go to bed #It said wake leave return and sleep #Which kept tripping me up especially on the return one #I'm like return to what? I thought if was in regard to temp not timing of me entering my house again lol #I mostly spend my weekends at home too so that was weird trying to figure out what to set the temp and times as #I think it should work OK though #I'll just have to see if the now accurate room temp is too low and I have to boost it a bit #Pretty sure my thermostat was lying to me about it being 68 degrees #Cause there's no way that was comfy enough for my cold blooded ass to live 90% of the time #I think it was really closer to like 76 #Proof is that my old thermostat said it was just 75 degrees in my house but it was 86 on the new thermostat #Terrible #I hope the copious amounts of shelf stable milk products in my house survived the 10 degree sustained increase in temp #Ugh

like literally you don’t remember a time where you two are separated

which leads me to believe one of his love languages are quality time

playing together, fishing together, fighting side by side, exploring together

m/n being more sentimental/emotional actually kinda goes hand in hand with luffy since he can pick up on those if nothing else

although you’ll be going through a roller coaster of said emotions-

at least he listens to your demands a little more

@/damoselcastel was kind enough to show me a bunch of the FE:Fates visual works artbook pages the other day!

and because i am continuing to be .... brain rotted (lol) ... grabbed a copy since there was more than a few relevant pages/official artworks, and wanted to have a high res/color corrected version of these pages for art refs to slap on my reference boards! if i'm looking at them every day now for the past three months they better be accurate!!!

What episode of Right Back At Ya do you consider to be the darkest. This could be the heaviest themes, the most intense imagery, or unsettling situations. How does this particular episode stack up in darkness to the darkest parts of Modern Kirby games?

Oh that's a tough one.

Maybe the most obvious is ep 26, specifically Sword and Blade's past. We've spent most of the show seeing green fields of flowers and happy villagers... and then in the flashback it's fields strewn with corpses. Not just monsters, but bodies of people too. And Sword and Blade struggling just to not starve to death in a wasteland.

Meta Knight being forced to kill Joe's father was pretty damn rough. Nightmare of the past seems to use much more cruel tactics than the present!

Deaths like Chilly and Robo Puppy also count, though they're more just sad. (Especially Chilly, with that final shot of the hat and bell sinking into the abyss. Like dang, did they need to do that? lol)

But stuff like ep 37 (Watermelon Felon/DededeWide) also ranks up there, thanks to Dedede's use of manipulative propaganda, because it's WAY too real and accurate to the current media landscape. Same with a lot of the eps that refer to real life issues and events, sometimes they can be rough because of how painfully accurate they STILL are, 20 years later.

Everyone facing their imminent demise in 41-42 when Gerath is bearing down is fairly heavy, though I feel like the sort of anti-climactic ending negatively effected it.

Deaths like Chilly and Robo Puppy also count, though they're more just sad.

As for how it compares to the games... Well, the anime never reaches the sort of pure WTF imagery the games sometimes do lol. (I will never see toothpaste the same way again!) Stuff like Zero's eye exploding with 'blood', or the creepiness of fighting the Soul forms. But it's pretty superficial, like 'yeah that is a creepy thing all right!'

But there is some stuff, like Sectonia losing her mind was pretty dark, tho I feel like her story was much more tragic than Taranza's, yet his is the one that gets focused on. Or Haltmann and Susie- a man loses his daughter and tries to bring her back, only to lose his memory of her in the process? Jeez. But it's all relegated to pause screen descriptions though which sort of takes away from the impact.

The ending of the game was definitely a lot of WTF with Fecto Forgo being a giant magic rat fetus going all Akira, but I expected worse than Waddle Dees being put in big hamster wheels rofl

I have a confession... So I made a character AI for Claude to see what chatting with an AI would be like and DANG it's been pretty accurate!!

It's Not 100% perfect (got wonky when I asked about his family and Shahid but there is like zero info on this so lol) but it's good enough to legitimately creep me out! wish I could add more details to his background to make it even more accurate lol.

(In case anyone wants to try, All I do is copy paste his in game quotes to use for his background. I think the rest comes from the web.)

Anyway! I asked about his opinion on Edelgard and later asked about his thoughts on the current war... And chat!Claude said Edelgard is no better than Nemesis

(He said good things about Dimitri though)

Oh, don't worry about the confession lol! I don't personally hate AI in and of itself so much as the whole, companies profiting off of people's work without notice or pay to the creator(s) and thus getting no permission for it. I hate the stealing companies do, but AI itself, eh.

As for Claude's family, me too! I'm glad we know about at least one of his siblings, but more depth on his family overall would've been a much better story for him imo. It kinda felt waved at us and then snatched up. ;~; I think it also would've been great if they included some hints and nudges to how Claude was accepted in Houses by the people of Almyra and what it would take for him to be king there over his siblings. I stand by the notion that we were robbed.

That's a really interesting conclusion! Technically with the in game context we have in all the routes, that's actually true, but it's the wording that's most interesting in this case. I think EdeIgard would agree, but because she respects Nemesis and views him as a hero. Tbh I wouldn't be surprised if she did want to do similar things to what he did out of respect and such for him (I'm not sure if she ever directly stated such since it's been a looong time since I looked at CF's lines and I took a long break from Houses because PoR is like catnip to me loool).

Claude of course is on the other side of all that - especially having been an immediate enemy of Nemesis himself by the end of his route. Can't imagine he'd look at Nemesis fondly lol. Considering his route and his lines, it's interesting that the AI picked up on what he might feel about the comparison between the two. If he doesn't agree with EdeIgard, which he doesn't, then it makes sense that he wouldn't view Nemesis in a positive light either and vice versa.

She does have some pretty similar goals and ideals to Nemesis from what we know of him, so it's a good conclusion and just comes down to how the characters respectively would feel about them being similar based on the lines the AI was fed.

Heeheeheehee he said good things about his mans. Makes sense coming from the guy who staked the entire Alliance on his mans aiding them. 😊 Claude used his brain to win battle and Dimitri handled the physical battle, and Dimitri even figured out his plan along the way! Just like two in love peas in a loving pod. 😊😊😊

and then they smooched. :)

i know it's harder for us to interact on nancy and dmitri bc of the separate plot threads and the age difference, so it can be hard for them to relate to each other, but i still enjoy the interactions we do have together on here! i'm also glad i convinced you to take up robin too bc she deserves some love and attention in this fandom and i knew that if anyone could do her justice, it would be you!

i know this fandom has been little less than a fuckin hellscape for us both, but i can promise that if i didn't have you, i would've left this fandom for good after s2 lol. and tbh, you're one of my best friends and i'm beyond blessed to have known you for as long as i have! i think it's funny how we're both pretty level-headed and chill until we get together and then it's pure chaos (i.e. me encouraging the spam on dear ol' enzo here). and it's been like this for years and i wouldn't change it. it's wild to me that i've known you longer than anyone else on this horrible ass website and i wouldn't change it for the world tbh! these 8 years of friendship have been wild, but i'd rather it have been with you than anyone else!

I was wondering if there are any eng vas or dubs you do like, personally I like the haikyuu dub cause a. you can understand everything said in the background b. it sounds natural to me like people would actually talk like that and c. I think the voices all sound different and fit the characters cause in other animes it's hard to watch the dub cause the voice doesnt fit how I imagined it

I grew up with the Bleach English dub and I think it's alright (tho I prefer Aizen and Kenpachi's original VAs, iirc they changed them for some reason), and the same goes for Durarara and Death Note for the same nostalgic reason.

Baccano also has a very nice dub that I would actually listen to again and think it's one of the few times a dub is just as good if not better than the Japanese version.

Cowboy Bebop's original dub is regarded as the gold standard of English dub voice work, and while I prefer the original Japanese I definitely agree. It's the best and most consistent quality English dub I've ever seen.

Hellsing (the anime and the OVAs especially) is also regarded as good, esp Crispin Freeman's performance as Alucard! And a side note, the parody version of Hellsing also has surprisingly great voice acting as well.

I don't care for the English dub of Free! but the other parody series 50% Off! is top tier.

As far as consistent quality goes, Persona 3 4 and 5 have good casts in English. 3 is weaker than the rest; Fuuka and Aigis have the same VA (she also voices Fuuka's friend for some reason?) but her role as Fuuka is easily the worst performance in the game...except for maybe Ken. Aside from that there are a lot of great English performances: Mitsuru, Igor, Elizabeth, J Michael Tatum as Theodore, Laura Bailey as FeMC, Liam O'Brien as Akihiko, Vic Mignogna as Junpei, the main dude from Strega that looks like methed-out Jesus.

Kingdom Hearts also has good English voice acting, but your mileage might vary. It's a little unfair though considering they've got Disney voice actors with literal decades of experience and talent for a lot of the cast, but still. The cast list is also so funny to me: You got Hayley Joel Osmond, Jessie McCartney, James Woods, David Boreanaz, Christopher FUCKING Lee, one of the Backstreet Boys or NSYNC as Demyx iirc...Kingdom Hearts is such weird bullshit, I love it.

Persona 4 has a lot of English VA veterans that do a nice job. As annoying/grating as Teddie can be, his English voice is way better than his Japanese voice. Like I cannot play P4 in Japanese because I hate it so much lol. And despite hating Amanda Winn Lee as a person, this is one of her best and most well-remembered roles for a reason. I prefer Naoto's original VA over Mary Elizabeth McGlynn, but McGlynn does a fine job. Chie's original VA gives the lowest quality performance, whereas her Golden VA has more personality and is less flat/more accurate to the character imo.

Persona 5 had a large cast of people who I'd never heard before, but I enjoyed all of them! Makoto's VA also voiced Trish in the dub of Golden Wind and despite not liking dubbed!Jojo for the most part, she does pretty dang well there too.

Panty and Stocking is one of the other rare examples of an English dub being better than the original imo, and that's largely due to Panty & Stocking's art style and vibe that was intentionally styled after American cartoons. It's the only time I've really been able to stand Monica Rial's voice, and is probably her last role where you can tell ahe's giving a shit.

While we're talking about English VAs though, for the love of fucking GOD if you like Silent Hill do NOT play the HD collection! Not only is it a disaster and insult on every other level, but the new voice actors are fucking awful. It's odd because almost all of them are industry vets but their worst performances are all in the HD Collection. The original Silent Hill 2 and 3 VAs are miles better even with less experience, and I have a lot to say about why the HD Collection is fucking atrocious.

Sooo… IDK if this exactly counts, since it’s an idea that I do hope to eventually write, but right now it IS still in daydream stage (with maybe a doc with a couple ideas i dont want to forget but thats it lol) It’s a 5+1 crack fic (very very crack fic. i just want to establish that.) about the Ghost fam doing karaoke (but especially the space kids because they own my heart. And believe it or not this is actually a minimally shippy fic which, knowing me, is a pretty dang big accomplishment! I mean technically i think this is gonna be set in the same au as my tropefic so it’s a moot point but whatever)

And this got, like. Super long. Oops.

1 starts out just before malachor, at a party, where zeb pulls out a karaoke machine he found. through shenanigans, ezra ends up convincing sabine she should do one song, but she says he has to do one too, and Zeb gets to pick what one it is. She sings Feeling It Still. (y'know, cause "i'm a rebel just for kicks"?) Zeb picks a… slightly less dignified song for our favorite blueberry. Chopper posts the video to SpaceTube. It has three billion views and spawns at least two meme formats.

2 is pre-season-3, when ezra is in his angsty phase. kanera is on a movie date night talking about very important mission stuff and zeb, chopper, and sabine decide they’re bored and recruit ezra for another karaoke night. Zeb (and chopper of course) make a plan to get the kids to sing Hooked On A Feeling together as revenge for an earlier prank and they immediately get back at them by making Zeb sing a cheesy pop song. Idk for sure which one it is. This sounds dumb but i can't seem to describe it in a way that accurately conveys how funny it is in my head

3 is the only chapter i’ve named yet. It’s called “The High School Space Musical 2 Soundtrack Is Tearing This Family Apart, Ezra!” That’s the best summary I can give.

4 is in early season four, at a post-alrich-rescue party on krownest, where someone finds a karaoke machine somewhere and it’s practically tradition by now, who cares if mandos don’t usually do karaoke, it’s fun! It features fenn rau and bo-katan kryze being cornered into singing Anything You Can Do, the space kids singing a pop song that I was obsessed with like 4 years ago, and chopper getting his own epic dance solo.

5 takes place in an everyone-lives post-finale setting. We Are The Champions. ‘Nuff said.

and the +1 takes place between 4 and 5, and it’s about the rest of the ghost crew & co. ganging up on the space parents and getting them to sing Rewrite The Stars together. This one goes on SpaceTube too.

Yes, as a matter of fact, I have read a few that were disappointing to me. In fact, I just finished one that had some interesting parts but overall was confusing and didn't end well, and I was not satisfied by the book. And I had high hopes for it too, which made it more disappointing.

Yes, I have to admit there are some I could not make myself finish. Usually, I'm the type that if I start it, then dang it, I'm going to finish it. But there are some even I couldn't finish. I was ready to bang my head against the wall, and I just gave up instead.

Hhhmmm...top three emotional books. Oh gosh, that's going to be tough. I think that would have to be Sing Me Forgotten by Jessica S. Olson, The Nightingale by Kristen Hannah, and A Passion Most Pure by Julie Lessman.

In my family? No. I get this love of books from both parents, but more so from my mother. In my current friend group? Absolutely.

LOL honestly, 79 feels accurate. I actually started counting like last week or so and hit the 30s pretty easily. Which was shocking to me to think it's grown that much, and I didn't even finish counting.

In Old Amarillo, 1951

Thoughts while watching through In Old Amarillo (1951) starring Roy Rogers, Trigger, Penny Edwards, and a few others.

Folks, I witnessed something terrible today. I wish I'd never seen it. The first fight sequence between Roy Barcroft's character and Roy is all chopped up. It's a genuine crime to cut a Bill Whitney fight sequence, especially one with the top 'heavy' actor of this era of Roy's films. Very disheartening start to the Happy Trails Theater version of this film, which was the only one I could find available online.

My first time watching Pinky Lee. He made me accidentally snort very loudly with laughter in his first sequence with the character of Phillip Hill.

Speaking of Phillip, the actor does a great job making you despise him haha.

Watching the cowboys riding the range, I miss Trucolor. *crying baby noises* I've been watching through these later Roy Rogers Films, and the Trucolor ones are stunning. I wonder why this one wasn't made in color.

Peppy is wild, definitely the most crazy character I've watched Estellita Rodriguez play.

The missing scenes physically hurt the viewer. You feel the loss keenly. Another missing scene in the bar while Peppy holds Phil accountable and Roy and co. watch in amusement.

Missing scenes everywhereeeee. *More crying*

During the water tank chase sequence, Roy wears a checkered shirt that reminds me soooo much of his TV series outfit.

Dang, stunt doubles had to work triple time during that fight sequence on the runaway water tank. It's a pretty cool fight, and I'm newly appreciative since it doesn't seem chopped.

Pinky Lee is no longer appreciated. The opposite in fact. A Roy Rogers song was cut so that Pinky Lee could waste two minutes not even being funny.

A few people die terribly (fire, plane crash) in this one, and we see their shrouded bodies. That's pretty graphic for someone with my vivid imagination.

Okay, good news, the prayer meeting scene finally gives Roy a chance to sing with the Sons of the Pioneers. I love the prayer meeting idea and how Roy comes up with it with Granny. So true to the cultural ideals of the time and also Roy Rogers' personal ideals. Beautiful little addition to the plot.

Pinky Lee is partly forgiven, but it's Roy's line that makes me really laugh -- "Give me your hand, boy!" As he's exasperatedly going to turn Pinky Lee upside down again, so Pinky can give over accurate information, per his own request.

I like the action/background music in this one! From the very first opening sequence, it's alternately soulful and engaging!

Watching Roy ride Trigger across the range at high speed = alllll the reasons why he was king of the cowboys. He could really ride and even someone like me who's never really ridden a horse could see the beauty in the way man and horse moved together. Both of them, just pure muscle and harmony.

Phil gets some guts and some morals, and apparently an iron hide. What point blank gunshot? Lol

Finally we get a real fistfight between Roy Rogers and Roy Barcroft! In the rain for bonus points. It's over pretty quickly.

Roy looks positively gleeful chucking handfuls of rice at the newlywed Phil's head at the end. He's definitely aiming for Phil, and Pepita is spared.

Roy seems oblivious to Penny Edwards sweet little flirty smiles at the end. They don't seem romantically engaged at that point, maybe just ranch neighbors/friends. Kind of a weird vibe compared to the usual "cowboy hero saves the day AND gets the girl" but it fits this movie somehow.

Notes: Bullet is in this one! And Penny Edwards actually rides Buttermilk, the horse Dale rode in the Roy Rogers TV series!

More notes: Penny Edwards' character is cool af. I can totally see a fictional future for her and Roy, since he will be around now as foreman of the H ranch. And Granny already loves Roy. So it's pretty much settled.

There's some fun science-y stuff about rainmakers... I don't know how real it is/was, but it's interesting! I guess they wanted to give a modern twist to the old west.

Can we admire Roy's fancy fringe shirt in the end scene, please!! How does he make it look so good? Also, the way he runs across the horses to jump on Trigger and then ride off into the sage brush... so iconic!

Definitely one Roy Rogers you will enjoy, and wish you could enjoy more of. This is one that makes me pray to all the film gods that someone someday will magically find the full film, restore and digitize it, and then make it available online. Pleeeeeease. How do I start a petition??

Now that it's over, how do you feel about MCU Phase 4?

Well, to be honest, I haven't watched like half of it! Overall, I liked what I watched, but it's hard to deny that the MCU has been struggling to find its footing after Endgame. I'll tell you my take on what I did watch (briefly, I'm not a reviewer haha)

-Black Widow: I liked it! Kinda too little, too late for Natasha's character, to be honest, but it was a neat adventure. Yelena was the standout there, great addition to the MCU. I even kinda liked "Taskmaster" (though, yeah, not at all what I would've hoped for a live action Taskmaster) Still miffed the Widow is dead, though.

-Shang-Chi: Loved it. Could call it formulaic, origin story and all, but I don't mind that, personally. The new characters are all great, the return of Trevor Slattery was very funny, the fight coreography was excellent, and I really loved Wenwu and the reimagined Ten Rings (though I wouldn't mind if they turned out to have some of their comic-accurate powers later on wink-wink)

-Eternals: I liked the mythos it brought to the table, and the visuals are incredible, but the romance that's core to the story couldn't have been more bland if it tried, and the Deviants might as well have been an environmental hazard rather than antagonists.

-No Way Home: Loved it! I'm a sucker for that kind of fanservice, not gonna lie. Almost all the returning villains were amazing (except Lizard, he was kind of just...there), but my god, Green Goblin was crazy good. The Multiverse craziness was kind of contrived, and it had kind of a downer ending, but that's the Parker luck for you.

-Wandavision: I liked it, but I feel it didn't go weird enough. Also, you can't convince me that this Wanda and MoM Wanda are the same character. No doubt, Wanda was in the wrong in the show, but there's a far cry from that to going on a legit killing spree. I hated that choice, it felt like character assassination, and it pissed me off enough that I outright refuse to watch MoM.

-Falcon and the Winter Soldier: I guess I liked them. Bucky and Sam were great, and their struggles were very interesting to watch through. John Walker was very good, too, nailed the role. The rest was, uh...well, there's not much there to talk about, unfortunately. Also pissed about Sharon Carter, but she's probably been replaced by a Skrull, in which case I'll allow it.

-Loki: very cool, though I have to say I expected a bit more fun to be had with time travel and alternate timelines. Kind of transparent that this show exists only because Loki's so popular, lol.

-What if...?: kinda hit or miss. Refused to watch the zombie episode because I have a phobia there. Also: poor Tony can't catch a break in that series, lol.

-Moon Knight: pretty great! Like Loki, it's pretty obvious that Oscar Isaac carries the show, but I can't complain. I could see how it'd piss off die hard fans of the comics version, though. He's pretty dang different, from what I know.

-She-Hulk: I've only watched two eps so far. It's funny, and I really like Tatiana Maslany as Jen Walters, but I'm actually really not a fan of the Hulk ever since Endgame. I know the show gets pretty nuts later, so I'm curious to watch more, but who knows when I'll have a chance.

The rest of Phase 4 I haven't watched either from lack of time or because there's something about it that turns me off. I'm sure I'll catch up eventually though!
