Wood Farm, Sandringham Estate
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Wood Farm is a farmhouse on the British Royal Family's Sandringham Estate in Norfolk, England. Historically occupied by members of the Royal Family and their guests, the house was a long favourite of Elizabeth II. From his retirement in 2017, the house was home to Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
Wood Farm is a five-bedroom cottage located in a secluded part of the Sandringham Estate, overlooking the sea.  It has been described as a “comfortable open beamed cottage two miles from the ‘big house’”. The house is half a mile from the Wolferton railway station and is located near the stables and pheasant shooting grounds.[1] Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, reportedly decorated the walls with his own art, redesigned the kitchen and bedrooms.
In 1904, the farmhouse was referred to as “Marsh Farm" by local residents. King George V and Queen Mary sent their youngest son, Prince John, who suffered from epileptic seizures to reside at Wood Farm in 1917. He tended to a garden alongside a flock of chickens, occasionally receiving Queen Alexandra as a visitor before his death in 1919. The cottage was subsequently rented out for a number of years, including to James Ansell, the royal family's physician, before his retirement in the 1960s.
Elizabeth II and her family began using Wood Farm in 1967.  Prince Philip chose the cottage for the family or guests to stay in without the huge staff or costs presented by the main house. Staff have been reported to not wear uniforms at the cottage. The Queen has also been described to have cooked and done the dishes while in residence. Charles III, when Prince of Wales, began to host shooting parties at Wood Farm during his college years, and continued to use it as a country retreat in adulthood.
The cottage is also a guest house for visitors who want "complete privacy". Diana, Princess of Wales, stayed at the farm with the Queen during a shooting party before her engagement. Divorced spouses of royals such as Sarah, Duchess of York are often put up at Wood Farm during holiday periods so they can be close to royal children without officially being at the Queen's festive holiday celebrations at Sandringham House.  Catherine, Princess of Wales, stayed at the cottage during her visits to Sandringham early in her relationship with William, Prince of Wales.  The couple reportedly continued to host shooting parties at Wood Farm after their marriage.
After his retirement, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh lived at Wood Farm.  He was often visited by the Queen, and reportedly ran a truffle farm on the grounds of the cottage.

Queen Elizabeth II has died
Queen Elizabeth II, the United Kingdom’ s longest-serving monarch, has died at Balmoral aged 96, after reigning for 70 years.
Elizabeth II (Elizabeth Alexandra Mary; 21 April 1926 – 8 September 2022) was Queen of the United Kingdom and 14 other Commonwealth realms from 6 February 1952 until her death on 8 September 2022.
Her reign of 70 years and 214 days was the longest of any British monarch and the second longest recorded of any monarch of a sovereign country.
Elizabeth was born in Mayfair, London, as the first child of the Duke and Duchess of York (later King George VI and Queen Elizabeth). Her father acceded to the throne in 1936 upon the abdication of his brother, King Edward VIII, making Elizabeth the heir presumptive.
She was educated privately at home and began to undertake public duties during the Second World War, serving in the Auxiliary Territorial Service. In November 1947, she married Philip Mountbatten, a former prince of Greece and Denmark, and their marriage lasted 73 years until his death in April 2021. They had four children together: Charles III; Anne, Princess Royal; Prince Andrew, Duke of York; and Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex.
When her father died in February 1952, Elizabeth—then 25 years old—became queen regnant of seven independent Commonwealth countries: the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Pakistan, and Ceylon (known today as Sri Lanka), as well as Head of the Commonwealth. Elizabeth reigned as a constitutional monarch through major political changes such as the Troubles in Northern Ireland, devolution in the United Kingdom, the decolonization of Africa, and the United Kingdom's accession to the European Communities and withdrawal from the European Union.
The number of her realms varied over time as territories have gained independence and some realms have become republics. Her many historic visits and meetings include state visits to China in 1986, Russia in 1994, the Republic of Ireland in 2011, and visits to or from five popes.
Significant events include Elizabeth's coronation in 1953 and the celebrations of her Silver, Golden, Diamond, and Platinum Jubilees in 1977, 2002, 2012, and 2022, respectively.
Elizabeth was the longest-lived and longest-reigning British monarch, the oldest and longest-serving incumbent head of state, and the second-longest verifiable reigning sovereign monarch in world history, only behind Louis XIV of France.
She faced occasional republican sentiment and media criticism of her family, particularly after the breakdowns of her children's marriages, her annus horribilis in 1992, and the death of her former daughter-in-law Diana, Princess of Wales, in 1997.
However, support for the monarchy in the United Kingdom remained consistently high, as did her personal popularity. Elizabeth died on 8 September 2022 at Balmoral Castle, Aberdeenshire.

My 30 years protecting the Queen: dry humour, heartfelt gifts and travelling the world by Hugo Daniel (September 17th 2022)
Taking in the beauty of a misty Scottish moor amid the bustle of a Balmoral grouse shoot, the royal protection officer Dick Griffin turned to check on his charge, the Queen, only to get the shock of his life.
It was September 1995 and, at first glance, the then 69-year-old monarch had disappeared. As he searched anxiously through the thick fog, he finally caught sight of her — lying flat on the ground, a dead grouse beside her.
“Because it was so foggy we couldn’t see [that the grouse had] hit her in the chest,” Griffin said. “You can imagine the velocity of something like that falling down to the ground — it just flattened her completely. So I had to get her up and discreetly brush all the feathers and plumes away from her. She was shaken up and badly bruised.”
The equerry who had shot the bird was understandably embarrassed. “But then [they] saw the funny side of it, because the Queen saw the funny side of it. She said, ‘What an odd thing to happen’.”
Griffin, 71, shared his memories of more than 30 years as a protection officer for the royal family over a cup of coffee in a Pret a Manger near Buckingham Palace. His son, Gareth, 42, is a uniformed firearms officer and was on duty at the palace when the Queen’s coffin arrived there on Tuesday evening.
Since her death, a news clip from the Platinum Jubilee has re-emerged in which Griffin revealed how, during a walk on the Balmoral estate, the Queen posed for a photo with two American tourists who did not recognise her.
He said he was glad the story had been a “comfort” to people, with many reposting it and calling it their “favourite Queen story”. He described her as a “remarkable, caring, wonderful person”.
Griffin, who had been due to have lunch with the Queen next month, will attend the smaller, more personal committal service at Windsor Castle’s St George’s Chapel tomorrow after the funeral at Westminster Abbey. He says all seven police officers who worked for the monarch have been invited.
Griffin now gives talks about his career to raise money for the Kent, Surrey and Sussex air ambulance.
His three decades with the royals began in 1982 as part of a team that reorganised palace security after Michael Fagan broke into the Queen’s bedroom. After that, he was assigned to act as Prince Edward’s protection officer at Cambridge University from 1983 to 1986. He worked on assignment for Prince Philip for 13 years until 1999 and then for the Queen until he retired in 2013.
He travelled with the Queen and Prince Philip to 161 countries. “Often you were in the car with them, just chatting away. She would ask about my family and all my marathon running. Once I went to South Africa to do the Comrades marathon, which is 55 miles, and you had a chip on your shoe so people could follow you at home. She got one of her footmen in front of a computer for ten hours to follow me, to see how I was getting on. The footman wasn’t too impressed.”
When Griffin’s running club in Bromley, southeast London, held a party to celebrate his 100th marathon, the Queen marked the occasion with a letter, showing her wry sense of humour. In it, she jokes: “We are delighted that your employers allow you sufficient time to train for, and take part in, such events.”
At his first meeting with the Queen and Prince Philip in 1983 at Windsor Castle, a week before he went to Cambridge with Edward, the couple were keen to learn about the background of the man who would be guarding their youngest child.
“We were sitting on lovely chairs and the staff were giving us coffee and the Queen said to me, ‘Can you tell Philip and me what you used to do before you came to royalty protection?’
“It was probably a question I’d prefer they’d not asked, because my job for the past six years had been [at Scotland Yard’s obscene publications branch policing] prostitution, the brothels, the sex shops and pornographic cinemas.
“The Queen said, ‘Good gracious, Mr Griffin. What on earth does Edward need a police officer with your qualifications for?’ and, before I could answer, Prince Philip said, ‘I don’t know. But they can have some wonderful parties at Cambridge.’
“That was my first experience of Prince Philip and his one-liners.”
The next time Griffin met the Queen, he remembers her sitting on the floor of the Waterloo Chamber at Windsor Castle to watch a private performance of a play that Edward and friends had originally performed at Cambridge, in which Griffin had a cameo role.
The roof was leaking. “Water was landing on top of the Queen’s head. She was all dressed up, having just come from dinner. Several members of the household offered her a seat, but she said ‘that’s not necessary’ and sat on the floor in the aisle and put a programme over her head to keep dry.
“That was one of my first impressions of the Queen, and I just thought, ‘What an amazing lady.’”
Griffin’s three-decade career as protection officer spanned security threats ranging from the IRA to Isis.
“Of course with Islamic terrorism and suicide bombers, we had to really ramp things up,” he said. “But nothing fazed the Queen and Prince Philip. We’d try to encourage them sometimes not to be so open on walkabouts, but nothing would change her.”
He was in the car with the Queen on the day two months after 9/11 when an American Airlines flight crashed in Queens, New York. It would turn out to be an accident, but there were fears at first that it was terrorism-related.
“I was bringing the Queen back from Windsor Castle and my mobile phone rang and it was my son. I spoke to Gareth and he said there might be another terrorist attack.
“I told the Queen, and then, five minutes later, Tony Blair rings up to brief the Queen, and I always remember her saying, ‘Yes, prime minister, I know. My policeman’s son has just phoned to tell me.’”
In 2005 Griffin’s first grandchild, Joshua, was born and the Queen insisted on meeting him.
“She said to me in the car one day, ‘For the last nine months, all you’ve talked about is how excited you are about being a grandfather, and now your grandson has been born, you haven’t even bothered to introduce me.’ So I had to arrange a date and time so the Queen could have a cuddle. She was thrilled.”
He saw her love for her own grandchildren, too. For Christmas in 2010, Griffin and the other protection officers decided to give the Queen a wind-up clockwork duck that played music and laid an egg every 30 seconds, something they had found at a flea market on a recent state visit to the United Arab Emirates.
“My wife wrapped it up all beautifully with ribbons and gave it to the equerry to present it to the Queen on Christmas Day. We got this beautiful letter from the Queen saying how much she enjoyed it and Edward’s son, James, had so much fun playing with it.”
In the letter, the Queen wrote: “To the PPOs, many thanks for the unusual Christmas present from you all. It certainly livened things up and little James’s face was a picture when the duck laid her eggs! Thanks for making us laugh.”
When Griffin retired, in 2013, the Queen gave him the best gift of all. She had paid for him to have a retirement party in the state department at the palace, with 200 guests, and at eight o’clock she joined the party, with Prince Philip and the Earl of Wessex.
“That was the biggest present she could give me,” he said.

what's something you'd like to see more of on royal simblr?
Great question, me! There's a number of things I'd love to see more often in the royal simblr community, such as:
More non-western influences and royals. European monarchies are the most accessible to English-speaking westerners, but in the modern day, most monarchical systems exist in Africa, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia. I can only think of a few royal Simblrs that are meant to have non-Western settings--I'm sure there are more that I'm not aware of, so I'd love recommendations on that front!
More stylistic diversity. @warwickroyals touched on this in her answer to this question, but there is a prevailing style for women on royal simblr, which is very classically feminine with a lot of dainty features and soft pastels. I'd love to see more people try to differentiate their characters a bit more in terms of silhouette and personal style. I think there were some royal simblr fashion police a few years ago who sent rude messages to people who broke "the rules" of royal dress, and I think that's had a bit of a stifling effect on the community. Even if you give your royals strict dress codes, I think there's a lot of room to play around and experiment within those parameters. For example, I was actually watching that Prince Philip doc produced by the royal family after his death, and I was struck by how distinctly all the women dressed. Princess Anne was in jeans and a blazer, Zara Tindall was wearing a sleek skirt suit, Beatrice and Eugenie were wearing flowy floral dresses...there's a lot of ways to be polished and stylish while still expressing individual style, so I'd love to see some of that on simblr.
More diversity, just in general. I'm not going to pretend I'm not also guilty of this, but royal simblr is very white, very able-bodied, very cisgender and heterosexual, very thin, and very conventionally beautiful by western standards. There's no reason why made-up countries with made-up histories should follow all the patterns and prejudices of the real world, so it'd be nice to see more of a range of types. I love my beautiful, icy brunettes as much as the next person (you will pry Rosalind from my cold, dead hands) but it'd be great to see more representation of different types of people.
More interesting men. This is one that's a lot more subjective, but I feel like there is a general tendency toward blandness when it comes to male characters on royal simblr. Speaking very broadly, the menfolk tend to be either irredeemable dumpster creatures OR perfect husbands and fathers who wait patiently for their "messy" love interests to realize that he's the man of their dreams. I don't think there's anything wrong with either of these things in a vacuum (and there's tons of stories that I really enjoy that make use of those archetypes), but I feel like there are some missed opportunities for more interesting and dynamic male characters, especially as love interests. For me personally, it's hard to get invested in a romance where one or both parties is certifiably Nice (tm) without any other defining character traits.
Anyway, all this to say that these are really broad trends, and I'm sure you could cite strong counterexamples for each OR point out places where I've fallen into the same patterns. But in general, those are the community-wide tropes that I think could use the most refreshing.

Twisted Wonderland Book/Chapter 7 Hopes and Dreams I Want to Happen
I don't believe this needs an introduction, but I am a huge Kingdom Hearts fan and I just started playing Twst. Needless to say, I am surprised that these two properties owned by both Disney and square haven't crossed over yet. There is so much similarity between the two that I am just stunned. You laugh at me, but watch either Disney or Nomura walk-in or realize this and it will go downhill from there!
Heck, in the prologue alone, there is so much.
You summon the classmates with keys similar to how Sora uses his keyblade to summon.
The coffin transporting Yuu reminds me of the vessel used for KH
The Magic Mirror is the gateway between the worlds.
You get the point.
Regardless, this is just a list of stuff I want to happen in Chapter 7.
Also spoilers for book 6 and Masquerade. I'll keep Yuu's gender unknown.
Book 7 Stuff I Hope Happens
After the Glorious Masquerade update, I got everything I wanted! Rollo is truly a villain, Malleus and Yuu nearly dying as a reference to Esmeralda, MallYuu moments, Rollo planning this whole thing, and so much more! I think the only bonus I got from this was seeing Chenya and Neige showing up. Regardless, this is about book 7. I will make a list of what I want and maybe a bingo sheet too. I'm thriving from this chaos.
Tumblr media
Ace gest his unique spell.
I don't care what it is, but I want him to shout, "Ace in the hole!" it would be too perfect! No, I don't see him being a traitor. He's too stupid and definitely not a mastermind. If he is…. Well, throw a party, I guess. I don't want him to be one. I want something wholesome and that's the freshman squad!
Tumblr media
The freshman squad is Prince Philip that fails to save Yuu
I love them, but they're not going to save us. They're going to fail. I am not trying to be harsh, but it kind of makes sense? I can see them trying but failing. Maybe that one scene where Aurora pricks her fingers happens to Yuu. Yuu is the first human friend and the reason Malleus is most likely going to do this. Lilia probably warns the freshman and they rushed to stop Yuu only to be too late as they fall asleep and Malleus casts his curse.
Tumblr media
Malleus puts Yuu and the school to sleep or makes a perfect reality.
We know Malleus is going to do something sleep related to the player, possibly Silver, and the WHOLE school. If any of you have played Persona 5 Royal, Dr. Maruki creates a perfect reality for those to escape from the harsh one. I think Malleus might do that as well. He was to give us a "happy ending". What if he gives us a perfect reality where nothing is going wrong. Everyone is happy and everything is perfect. Nothing is wrong. It is catered to everyone.
Tumblr media
Idia + Ortho know the reality is fake
We know Idia and Ortho are going to help us next (he already fixed my house, so we're good). But I believe Idia's going to realize this is fake. This is a tad ironic since he lives in video games and animes, but I also find it poetic too. This is also a perfect way to show Idia has grown. Idia is not accepting a perfect reality, he's going to accept the real reality.
As for Ortho, he also notices something is wrong. I am going, to be honest, he's not going to be fooled so easily for being a part robot. I just don't know how Ortho is going to know the reality is fake.
Tumblr media
Lilia gets hurt and ties Malleus and Idia together (No, this doesn’t mean Lilia is dying, but I can see him dying)
I think we can all agree that Idia is going to find out that his gaming buddy is Lila. Which is a good way to tie Idia to Malleus. Both view Lilia highly, and I wouldn't be surprised if Lilia knows this and use it to his advantage. This man already scared Silver on Endless Halloween, I can see him faking his death or doing something dramatic that snaps both Malleus and Idia.
Idia vs Malleus
Look, this is just my personal wish. I want both to fight. Nothing holding either back. I think Idia could take him on, but he wouldn't win. I am also comparing both to their respective villains in both Disney and KH lore
Besides that, Idia is the best person (I know people want Leona which would also make sense) to stand against Malleus. Idia just got past accepting Ortho's death and is willing to live his life with less regret and some enjoyment. He's going to live his life and do everything before dying, honoring his little brother's request. He's not going to run anymore. Once Idia sees this reality is fake, he and Ortho will find a way to break it.
Another note is Idia understands what it feels like to lose someone you love. Malleus hasn't and doesn't want to lose anyone. He's been feared, turned down, and left alone. He has his human friend and knows he's going to outlive them. He doesn't want to. Idia has already gone through this, so he's the perfect choice to help Malleus.
Looking at the Disney lore, both Maleficient and Hades are good friends. It annoys me that Malleus and Idia aren't. And even in the KH lore, Hades does help Maleficient. Let them be friends!
Tumblr media
Sebek is going to hurt Silver
Sebek is the lightning and Silver is both the sword and Aurora. From what I hope, Silver and Lilia see Malleus falling apart and want to help him by stopping him. I can see Sebek feeling the most conflicted and attacking Silver for Malleus and hurting him. Malleus then puts Silver to sleep and realizes what he can do.
Tumblr media
Silver stands against Malleus
Similar to how Kalim and Rook stood against Jamil and Vil (I still can't believe I was Aladdin, but I do believe in the majority being the Prince from Snow White). Silver's going to stand against Malleus. I've made KH jokes about him being not Riku, but this is just too perfect. Silver is the sword and Aurora. That fits so well with both tales of Sleeping Beauty. Aurora was an important friend to Maleficient and the person to stop her. Makes sense Silver is going to do the same thing and help us more than Sebek until Sebek realizes something is wrong.
Tumblr media
Three Good Fairies
We know Lilia, Sebek, and Silver each had a color representing the Three Good Fairies which I find surprising. I thought it was just Lilia. He raised those kids, so I assumed he was based on all three. But all three got colors based on the three fairies. Each of them probably has some important meeting to eat, but this is all I've got. Someone fill in the rest. I am sure it is there.
Sebek is green. The most loyal.
Silver is blue. The one to put up a fight and is trained to.
Lilia is red/pink. He's the leader
Tumblr media
Rollo
There must be a reason this character is here. No, you're not welcome in my dorm. I would rather have the eel twins take my house again than let you in.
I don't think this is the last we will see of him. Even though he should go to jail for ACTUALLY PLANNING A MURDER! But I think he's going to be reoccurring.
He literally made an enemy of Malleus…. Good luck with that.
I don't know if he'll appear in chapter 7, either in flashback or physically, but he's not going away.
If he does show up in chapter 7…. I think you'll make Malleus overblot or push him over the edge.
I actually don't know about this one. Someone fill in the rest for me.
Crowley.... Do I need to say more?!
I never trusted him since the day I woke up from the fricken coffin. Also, you're based on the crow from Maleficient! I do not trust you! My hunch is right about this, but it is also obvious too. There are already parallels between him and Malleus. No, I haven't read the time travel theory, but I wouldn't be surprised if Crowley is a past version of Malleus, a person who wants the overblots to happen, and/or wants something! He's either the mastermind or a hand in it! We are not wrong about this!
And yes, Azul must know something he made him sign a contract. What was the secret?!
Tumblr media
Grim, our idiot and precious cat
We know he attacked us in the prologue
He has some connection to Idia with the blue flames, I think?
He keeps eating the stones on the ground, so he'll most likely eat Malleus' stone too.
He's going to explode with dark energy and be a monster.
BUT WE ARE SAVING OUR JERK OF A CAT! THAT IS MY CAT! HE WILL BE OK!
Pretty sure Crowley has something against the cat. He wants Grim or something to do with him.
This is not the end
Yeah, no, this isn't the end.
I don't trust Crowley, our cat is a lunatic of a monster, we don't know about the senior class, I want to know more about RSA, more for Noble Bell, Yuu also may blot or the reason for it, Yuu also needs to find a way home, MICKEY MOUSE, certain info on characters that are hinted at or reference, missing siblings we haven't seen, what the frick is up with the mirror in our dorm, we didn't have flashbacks with Rollo, does the mirror work since Idia's family blew up our house, why was Silver in the mirror and knows Mickey (Those Riku connections again), and probably more that I haven't said/known.
I feel like Austin after his kingdom hearts time travel video…. Except I typed this, but I can hear the music as my mind is slowly spiraling. Well, good job on reading this to the end….. I have no more words to say about it. I just hope I'm right or something dramatic happens.

“Malta was always very special to me. I remember happy days here with Prince Philip when we were first married,” said the Queen in 2015.
Lady Pamela, who was one of the Queen’s bridesmaids, has also spoken of the love the late monarch had for the island.
“The Princess really loved Malta because she was able to lead a normal life, wander through the town and do some shopping,” she told MailOnline.
“It was the only place that she was able to live the life of a naval officer’s wife, just like all the other wives. It was wonderful for her and it’s why they have such a nostalgia for Malta.”
With 300 days of sunshine per year, and beautifully breathtaking landscapes that have served as locations for major film and TV productions such as Game of Thrones, Popeye, and Gladiator, it’s no surprise that the Queen was so fond of Malta.
The Queen’s love affair with Malta
The Queen and Prince Philip were married in November 1947 and spent their early years of marriage in Malta between 1949 and 1951.
They lived at Villa Guardamangia, owned by Philip’s uncle, Lord Mountbatten.
The Duke was stationed there as a naval officer and was appointed second-in-command of HMS Chequers, operating from Malta with the Mediterranean fleet.
The property offered the newlyweds more than just a Mediterranean base, as Malta gave them their only taste of real life and a place where they could be their normal selves.
In fact, Malta is the only place outside the UK that Queen Elizabeth has ever called home.

Hicks said:
“They were magical days of endless picnics, sunbathing, and water skiing. It was wonderful for her and it’s why they have such nostalgia for Malta.”
The Queen liked to divide her time between England – where she could spend time with her son, Charles, and his grandparents – and Malta.
Tumblr media
Elizabeth’s magical and carefree time in Malta allowed her to handle cash for the first time, drive through the narrow streets, and dance with Prince Philip in the ballroom of Hotel Meridien Phoenicia.
The Queen would also host tea parties and visit the local salon while Philip was on board Chequers.
In 1951, King George’s health deteriorated rapidly, and the couple had to make a return to normal life, moving back to the UK.
Prince Philip left the Royal Navy on “indefinite leave” in July 1951, ending his military career to stand by Elizabeth.
Following King George’s death on 6 February 1952, Elizabeth became Queen Elizabeth.
The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh returned to Malta several more times.
In 2007, the couple celebrated their diamond anniversary in Malta and, most recently, in 2015, they were there for the Commonwealth summit in Valletta.
During the trip, former Maltese president Marie Louise Coleiro gifted the couple a watercolour of Villa Guardamangia.
Tumblr media
Now Villa Guardamangia, just outside Valetta, is set to be transformed into a museum, after falling into disrepair in recent years.
The planned restoration project is being managed by the Maltese government, which acquired the 18-bedroom property last summer, three years after its last residence.
An elderly woman who could no longer handle its upkeep previously lived there. It will see the former royal residence transformed into a museum for all to visit, exploring Britain’s link to Malta (which gained independence in 1964), and will recreate what the house looked like when The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh lived there.

[ INSIDE COVER ]
By the time you see this I imagine you are set and ready for Christmas. Last we spoke, your parents and Leo hadn't decided yet if you were going to be celebrating in California or in the White House, however you mentioned that your dad was flying into Washington so I feel like this is a good bet.
I still don't understand Thanksgiving and quite frankly I refuse to try, regardless, I hope that that went well also.
I fear it would entertain you far too much to tell you what I have discovered Bea has gotten me for Christmas so, instead, I will tell you that we have worked together to get what is possibly the most ghastly Christmas jumper for Philip. Now we just have to work with Martha to ensure he has no other shirts with him for the holidays.  Afterall, we require some entertainment when we are dragged to the church service at Balmoral on Christmas morning.
Mostly, I wish to thank you for your friendship over the last few months. I understand how I am not always the easiest person to converse with, in no small part that the time difference between us can make it frustrating at best. Truthfully, there are not many people who are willing to put up with me past the closeness that it brings them to the crown. Only Percy indulges my interests and fascinations, at least until you indulged me as well. And so far, you are the only person who has ever called me to talk about a turkey at three in the morning. Is it entirely inappropriate of me to admit that I thoroughly enjoyed it? No one ever experiences something in their life and thinks of a Prince of England to share that with ---at least, nobody until you.
If it matters, I am writing this now a few hours after we ended that phone call in particular, does Cornbread still know all your sins?  I hope I have read the situation correct this time, and that we are not indeed still archenemies? Please correct me if I am wrong.
I've included a photo of David in his brand new Christmas jumper. He is very proud of it, as he should be, and I thought you would appreciate it.
[ MAIN PAGE ]
Dear Alex
MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR .(Pez has taken to choosing my tie for your awful New Year's party, you better appreciate it or I shall only ever wear grey ones going forward. He also asks me to thank you for an invite, even though I reminded him that his invitation was a prerequisite for my attendance. Are you sure the CIA could not orchestrate my death instead?)
Warmest Regards, Henry (& David 🐾)

How a Princess became Queen
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The day the Princess of Wales became Queen Elizabeth II
by British Heritage Travel, March 31, 2023
As the longest-serving monarch, Queen Elizabeth II has died we now look back on the incredible history and when she was bestowed the mantle of Queen.
When King George VI died in 1952, the then [Princess Elizabeth] and her husband were the last to find out as they were in Kenya at the time. Speaking recently Philip's cousin Pamela Hicks, daughter of the late Lord Mountbatten, who was also in Kenya working as a lady-in-waiting, has revealed that Philip was told first and then shared the news with his wife.
Speaking on her daughter India Hicks' podcast in 2018, Lady Pamela recalled how the Queen had been staying at the remote Treetops guest lodge in Kenya, which was accessed via a ladder.
She said: "She goes up as a princess. The King dies that night. She comes down the ladder as Queen. We were the last people in the world to hear."
A message had been sent by the British embassy but as it had been written in code it wasn't passed on. Instead, the Queen's private secretary, Martin Charteris, was in a nearby town when a reporter accosted him and asked about the news.
Charteris returned to the lodge and subtly climbed the ladder trying to get Philip's attention while not disturbing the Queen.
Lady Pamela said: "Prince Philip is sitting, reading a newspaper, while the princess is in another part of room, at the desk, writing to her father.
"[Martin] crawls in as he doesn't want the princess to look up and see him so he's crawling out of her sightline and gesturing to get hold of the radio.
"He secretly turns it very, very low and hears all the stations (playing) the same dirge-like music, being very solemn, so it's obviously true."
Mr. Parker secretly got the Duke to listen to the radio to hear the news for himself.
Lady Pamela continued: ”Philip just takes the newspaper and covers his face with it, hides behind it and says: 'This will be such a shock!’”
She said the Duke convinced his wife to go for a walk in the garden, where he told her of her father's death and that she was now Queen.
Lady Pamela added: "As she comes into the room. I think 'Oh, poor girl, her father's died'.
“So I go over to her, give her a hug and think 'Oh my God, it's the Queen’, so I go into a deep curtsey.
"And she says 'I'm so sorry. It means we've all got to go back’. She was only thinking of all of us."
The podcast also said Lady Hicks reveal that when the royal party returned to London a black dress had to be smuggled onto the plane so the Queen could change before disembarking as she hadn't thought to bring one. An oversight that changed how the monarchy travel, as they now all bring a black mourning outfit.

Henry ‘Chips’ Channon: The Diaries (Vol. 1), 1918-38, entry for 28th May 1923
Monday 28th May — Fairlawne¹
A large Friday to Tuesday party at the Cazalets here to meet HRH Princess Alice² and Lord Athlone. I found Princess Alice delightful, human and pretty in an unostentatious way and even chic. I sat next to her two evenings at dinner and though we had great gossips she was always most kind. She told me only a sense of humour saves her. She is much the easiest of royalties and she rather prides herself on it; she has none of the stupidity nor dullness, yet has their dignity sweetness, and also their esprit de concierge³ . . . the royalties always know more gossip than anyone else. The Earl of Athlone is affable, polite, meticulous and rather and the German cavalry officer in his sense of detail for uniforms, orders, etc. He is less distinguished than his brother, Lord Cambridge⁴ and I am suspicious he minds more being degraded to the rank of a simple per. Mrs Cazalet⁵ always ‘bobs’ to him and refers to him as ‘Prince Algy’. I fancy he does not mind. But then of course we all know the story of how she ‘bobbed’ to the telephone on hearing a royal voice. The Athlones and the Cazalets are old, devoted friends. It is extraordinary Mrs C’s flair for royalty. Even the WC[s] are hung with the Queen’s photographs. On the Monday there was a pageant with 3,000 people looking on. It was opened by the Princess Alice, who enjoyed the three hours watching it in spite of the drizzle which threatened to ruin our costumes. The gardens were an excellent setting. I was Charles II, complete except for the spaniels, and I was much the most applauded. I looked as rakish and as imperious as possible . . . . Lady Irene Curzon⁶ was a corpulent Henrietta Maria. Baba Curzon and Lady Mary Thynne⁷ because of their great beauty were let off with selling programmes to the gaping proletariat.
1. An estate in west Kent, near Tonbridge, owned by the Cazalet family from 1880.
2. Princess Alice Mary Victoria Augusta Pauline (1883-1981), daughter of Prince Leopold, Duke of Albany, youngest son of Queen Victoria; she was therefore the King’s cousin. She married in 1904 Prince Alexander of Teck (1874-1957), brother of the future Queen Mary; his title was anglicised in 1917 after the creation of the House of Windsor and he was granted the earldom of Athlone, after which his wife was known as Princess Alice, Countess of Athlone.
3. The spirit of a concierge; collecting gossip about all who pass through.
4. Adolphus Charles Alexander Albert Edward George Philip Louis Ladislaus, Duke of Teck (1868-1927). Like his brother, he relinquished his German titles in 1917 and, as brother of the Queen Consort, was created 1st Marquess of Cambridge. His younger brother was one rank below him in the peerage.
5. Maud Lucia Heron-Maxwell (1868-1952), married in 1893 William Marshall Cazalet (1865-1932); she was the mother of Victor Cazalet.
6. Mary Irene Curzon (1896-1966), known as Lady Irene Curzon after her father’s advancement to an earldom in 1911, was Lord Curzon’s eldest daughter. On his death in 1925 she inherited the barony of Ravensdale, and in 1958 was enabled to sit in the House of Lords by being granted a life peerage. She never married, declining a proposal from Victor Cazalet.
7. Lady Mary Beatrice Thynne (1903-74), third daughter of the 5th Marquess of Bath; she married in 1927 Charles Wilson (1904-74), 3rd Baron Nunburnholme.

Quote
Philip [II], for his part, was never going to be personally eager for a marriage with his father’s cousin, eleven years older than he. In contradiction to the posthumous picture of an older Philip as a dour religious fanatic, the man who came to England loved music and jousting: he was something of a party prince. Though Mary would cling to the belief that, as she told the Venetian ambassador, her husband ‘was free from the love of any other woman’, Philip was in fact if anything a womaniser; happy to play the gallant all over Europe. At a feast in Milan he let the loveliest ladies drink from his own glass, enjoying their praise for his prowess in the tourney; in Binche, at an elaborately staged chivalric feast, he was one of the knights who had to win past obstacles in their way to rescue prisoners from a Dark Tower. In Brussels, he gave a banquet to celebrate the death and rebirth of the god of love. Finding themselves in Winchester for the wedding, one of the first things the Spanish nobles did was to seek out the Round Table of King Arthur.

December 1st 1463 saw the death of Mary of Guelders, Wife of King James II.
Mary of Gueldres, the only daughter and heiress of Arnold, Duke of Gueldres, was born in 1433 and was brought up and educated at the court of her kinsman, “Philip the Good”, Duke of Burgundy. She was chosen as a suitable royal bride by a party of specially appointed Scottish commissioners, who approved as much of her amiable qualities as of her ancestry and her queenly character. She set sail from Flanders in a resplendent galley, escorted by 13 other ships, with a retinue of nobles and 300 men at arms, landing at Leith on 18th June 1449. A fortnight later, on 3rd July, she married James II, King of Scots, at Holyrood and was crowned queen on the same day. The marriage proved fruitful and she had 5 sons and 3 daughters, although 1 son and 1 daughter died in infancy.
Upon the death of her husband at the Siege of Roxburgh on 3 August 1460, when he was six weeks short of his 30th birthday and she was about 27, she immediately took command of the situation, becoming unofficial regent for her nine-year-old son, James III. Taking her young son with her, she immediately set out for Roxburgh, where the siege was going badly since the death of her husband. She rallied the forces ranged against the castle and succeeded in capturing it in a couple of days. Then, having had her son hastily crowned at the nearest suitable place, which happened to be Kelso Abbey, on 10 August, they made a royal progress back to Edinburgh in some style. For the remaining three years of her life Mary continued to dominate the political scene and look after the interests of her eldest son, aided by her chief minister, James Kennedy, Bishop of St. Andrews. In July 1460 she had sheltered Margaret of Anjou (wife of Henry VI of England) and her son, Prince Edward, in Lincluden Abbey, after their party´s defeat at Northampton; as part of the deal, a treaty was signed promising Edward in marriage to Mary´s daughter, Princess Mary of Scotland. She also gave temporary refuge to Margaret and Henry after their defeat at Towton in March 1461, exacting, as the price of her help and friendship, the surrender of Berwick back into Scottish hands. A devout Catholic, Mary founded Trinity College Church in 1460 in memory of her husband. The church, was in Edinburgh´s Old Town, however it was demolished in 1848 to make way for Waverley station. Mary was buried in the church, although her coffin was moved to Holyrood Abbey in 1848.
