Masterful

(Disclaimer: This post is strictly my thoughts and opinions.)

William's simply worded statement brought tears more than anything I've watched or read since the Queen's passing...Her Majesty did so very well with her grandson.

William wrote this, talked it over with Catherine who added her two cents to it. It's not too sweet, not flowery or formal. There have been some wonderful, beautiful, even regal tributes from around the world. This from William is noble. You get a sense of "Thank you from the depths of my heart, Granny. The Cornwall-Cambridges will never forget you. You can rest now, I've reported for duty."

With this one simple sentence he identifies with the British/Commonwealth people, lets them know he shares their grief...that it's natural to mourn her, and things will be alright: "All of the sadness we will feel in the coming weeks will be testament to the love we felt for our extraordinary Queen."

Part of the beauty of this statement from William is in what it does not say...what it spells out without specifically saying so. Read it and you have a prioritized list of the things most important in William's life, spoken so as to reveal his thoughts while always honoring his grandmother.

First, he claims what he considers his most cherished heritage: Queen Elizabeth II's wisdom imparted to her heir-in-waiting.

Second, in describing his gratitude for QEII's kindness toward his family he lists who/what is his primary concern in order of importance to him: his wife, his children, the people he serves as Prince, his King.

William will not be jumping ship; if his father holds it together long enough, William will be king. He will always have his grandmother's voice in his ear as a trusted advisor. He is, however, his own man. He will take what he's learned from his grandmother, grandfather, mother, father, and others and pay it forward to his own son, George.

First up, publicly dealing with his brother and brother's wife. William puts into practice his decades of watching/learning from Granny...

Observation: It's too bad Charles' accession was overtaken in headlines by the Wales and Sussex walkabout. William correctly waited on Charles to first address the nation and take care of official accession. Realistically, he/Catherine/Sussexes were the last royals remaining to be seen in public after QEII's death, and I'm not sure when would have been a better time looking ahead. The body is enroute, much to do with dignitaries and massive state funeral looming, etc. Also, if true that Harry's wife is in frequent contact with Oprah while in England, who knows what the Sussexes had brewing that William headed off.
