The King's Herald Prologue (Elrond x reader)

"Atar!"

The piercing cry of the young elleth thoroughly startled the High-King, making him drop the letter he'd been completely absorbed by. Gil-Galad looked up just in time to catch sight of his daughter charging towards the head of the table where he was sat. Her little legs a blur as she tried to swiftly cover the distance between him and the entryway.

Realizing her intentions, he scooted his chair back to create a safe landing place for the young girl as she leapt at him. He caught her fast and pulled her into his chest before the small child could go flying face first onto the floor. "Woah, anel!" He exclaimed while the child erupted into a flurry of giggles as she wrapped her arms around his neck in a tight hug. "Where are your caretakers?"

"We're playing hide and seek!" She cheered right into his ear. Gil-Galad felt his eye twitch.

"I see," he said, gently pushing his daughter back but keeping his hold on her lest she fall off his lap onto the floor, "And are they aware they're playing?"

At that, her face fell into a look that told Gil-Galad he'd caught her. The High King had to fight the urge to roll his eyes. He'd avoided accidentally teaching her that expression of annoyance thus far - he loathed the day she finally found its power. "Anel," he admonished, "you know better than to run off on them." Her face fell further, taking her head with it. "They're probably worried sick."

"I just wanted to see you." She muttered, retracting her arms from his neck.

Gil-Galad sighed already caving at the sight of her saddened face, though frustrated with his daughter he couldn't bear to see her upset. "Merca alma," he brought a hand to her tiny chin, "lift your head." With gentle prompting, she did but she would not meet his eye. Gil-Galad's heart clenched when he realized it was because she was trying to hide the tears that were starting to gather. "I am not angry with you, anel nin." She tentatively looked at him. "But you must know that this behavior is unbecoming."

"I know..." she sighed, looking away again. "I just...I was lonely, atar. The caretakers never want to talk to me and I never get to see you anymore."

Gil-Galad's face fell. It was true that he hadn't had any time to spare his adopted daughter ever since he became High-King of the Noldor and now he could see lurking in the depths of her eyes that the separation was taking its toll on her. Casting his gaze to the letter detailing the latest struggles of Beleriand, he made a decision. While he couldn't leave the matter be, there was a way to also enjoy some quality time with the girl. "Anel nin, dry the tears in your eyes. I have a task for both of us."

Her head tilted to the side as her undefined brow furrowed. "For both of us?" She echoed.

Gil-Galad nodded. "I have also missed our time together, anel nin. But, until the darkness is gone from this land we will continue to be separated." She frowned but he pressed on. "So, that leaves us with only one option."

"Banish the darkness?" The elfling hazard, voice sounding shaky.

Gil-Galad nodded and lifted the girl off his lap to set her back on the ground before rising himself and snatching the letter off the the table. "Precisely, and we'll start doing that together. Come along." He started walking, trusting that the little girl would find a way to keep up with his long strides. "You are going to help me draft an address, merca alma."

"An address?" Her bell like voice piped from behind him. "What's that?"

"A letter." He amended. "You'll send countless in your lifetime." Gil-Galad turned down the hallway that led to his study.

"Oh." His daughter hummed in thought. "Who are we-?"

"Aranel! There you are!" A scolding feminine voice suddenly boomed down the hallway, making both elves pause - the younger of the two taking shelter behind her father's midnight blue cloak. Gil-Galad raised his gaze from the girl that clung to his leg and to her caretaker - Almarian, if he remembered her name right - who was approaching with a thunderous expression. Only to falter when she realized he was there. "Oh, Your Grace," She drew up short and fell into a curtsy. "A thousand apologies, my king," The pale haired old elleth began to ramble, ripping her gaze away from his eye to stare down the young girl still cowering behind him, "The princess managed to slip out of her room without our notice. I hope she hasn't been bothering-"

"Quite the feat," Gil-Galad interrupted, "considering she is but a child and you are four keen-eyed caretakers." Her face paled. "And I can assure you that my daughter is no bother. Not to me," the high king narrowed his gaze at the uncomfortable elleth, "nor should you consider her one." When Almarian failed to respond in a timely manner, Gil-Galad reached behind him to nudge the girl into her line of sight. "My daughter will be spending the rest of the day with me." He said icily and watched as the elleth before him squirmed. Normally, he didn't like pulling cheap power plays like this - but a line had been crossed. "I suggest you return to your comrades and tell them that I will be arranging a meeting with all of you to discuss how my daughter is being cared for. You are dismissed, Almarian." He hissed her name and she at least had the decency to look abashed. "Now," he turned his attention back to his daughter, laying a hand atop her head, "come along, ingaranel."

Turning on his heel, he started to walk, but was stopped after taking a single step by the feeling of his daughter's tiny hand taking hold of his. Gil-Galad looked down to find her beaming up at him, her eyes twinkling as if they held stars within them. "Thank you, atar."

June 2nd - Hulkling

Theodore ‘Teddy’ Altman is the son of the Kree hero, Mar-Vell, and the Skrull princess, Anelle.  The two had a brief affair in the midst of the Kree/Skrull War and the child was a closely guarded secret.  Fearing for his safety, Princess Anelle sent the infant away with her nursemaid.  The nursemaid brought the child to Earth hoping to leave him in the care of his father.  Upon learning Captain Mar-Vell had died, however, the nursemaid decided to raise the child herself and used her Skrull abilities to assume the guise of a single mother named Mary-Jo Altman.  

Teddy appeared human throughout his childhood yet discovered his ability to shapeshift in early adolescence.  He had inherited this ability from his mother; along with greatly enhanced physical strength inherited from his father.

As a teenager, Teddy was asked by Iron Lad to help him form a new team of ‘Young Avengers’ in an effort to defeat Iron Lad’s older self, Kang the Conquerer.  Teddy agreed and assumed the alias of Hulkling.  The Young Avengers were successful in fending off Kang.  Teddy and his fellow Young Avengers, Wiccan, began dating shortly after forming the team.  

Following further adventures, Teddy was abducted by The Super Skrull known as Kl’rt.  Teddy was told that his true name was Dorrek VIII, grandson to the former Skrull Emperor and heir to the throne.  Teddy had trouble believing this but was convinced when Kl’rt used a device that neutralized Ms. Altman’s shapeshifting abilities and revealed her to be a Skrull.   Kl’t then killed Ms. Altman and insisted Teddy return to Skrull space with him so to unite the fractured Skrull Empire.  Just then, solders of The Kree arrived, claiming Teddy as their own.  A battle ensued between the Kree and Skrull forces as well as Teddy’s Young Avenger allies.  The only solution that Teddy saw to end the conflict was to surrender.  The Kree and Skrulls came to agree that Teddy would spend half the Earth-year with the Kree and the other half with the Skrull and decide on his on which side he would ultimately declare his ultimate allegiance to.  After the two sides left it was revealed that the ‘Teddy’ who had departed was actually Kl’rt who had used his super Skrull powers to impersonate Teddy thus allowing the young man to remain on earth with his friends.  

Following many more adventures, Teddy was once more approached by representatives of the Kree and Skrull peoples.  A tentative alliance between the two empires had been achieved and Teddy was asked to lead this new alliance and acted as a type of figurehead to further strengthen the union.  The prospect of being able to help put an end to countless centuries of war was too great of a responsibility to pass up and Teddy agreed to this request.  At the same time, Teddy’s relationship with Billy had deepened and the idea of being separated for good was too much to bare for either of them.  The Kree/Skrull union would likely not agree to Teddy’s being with a human mate so he and Billy superseded any such disagreement by arranging a quick marriage and a small marriage attended by the Young Avengers.  

Teddy became Dorrek the Eighth, leader of the Kree/Skrull Alliance and commander of their joint forces.  The first great challenge to his rule was the threat of the Cotati.  Teddy had to devise a means of defeating these enemies without the use of The Pyre (a super weapon that would cause the earth’s sun to detonate in supernova).  Despite betrayals among his own forces, Teddy was able to prevail with the aide of The Avengers and Fantastic Four.  The victory cemented Billy’s position as king and greatly strengthen the union between the Kree and Skrull peoples.  In the aftermath of the victory, a celebration was held on the Alliance’s flagship where Teddy and Billy redid their wedding with a lavish ceremony in which Billy was formally inducted as prince consort and court wizard.  It was really nice.  

Now situated on Throneworld II, Teddy has continued to guide the fledgling alliance in the hopes of a better tomorrow for the united citizens of the union, guarding it against the countless threats that are sure to come.

Hulkling first appeared in the pages of Young Avengers Vol. 1 #1 (2005).

I just read the Kree/Skrull War comics for the first time and I am shocked to learn that was the only interaction between Mar Vell & Princess Anelle … because they BARELY interacted!! To the point where I was confused af that Mar Vell’s last thought before saving Rick Jones was of Anelle.

Bro is just a cad, let’s be real. His “undying love” for Una seems to fade every time Carol Danvers or another pretty woman pays him any attention lol

(I am also personally holding out hope for Princess Anelle, who is Hulkling's mom and he might be in Coven of Chaos but maybe I am used used to thinking of Emilia Clarke as royalty?)

June 1st - Wiccan

Billy Kaplan was born to a family living in Manhattan.  He is both the son of Jeff and Rebecca Kaplan as well as the reincarnated son of The Scarlet Witch.  The Scarlet Witch had used her magical powers to manifest twin sons for her and her husband, The Vision.  This magic was undone and young Billy and his twin brother’s souls were sent a handful of years back in time to be born to new parents.  

Billy connection to The Scarlet Witch resulted in his manifesting magical powers in his early adolescence; powers that he originally attributed to his being a Mutant.  Although he would go on to wield vast magical abilities, earlier on his skills were limited to mid-range flight and lightning-like energy projection.  

Billy was among the young heroes recruited by Iron Lad to form The Young Avengers.  Herein, Billy called himself ‘The Asgardian’ as a nod to The Mighty Thor, who at the time was believed to have perished in battle.  Billy and his Young Avenger were able to thwart the schemes of Kang the Conquerer and went on to have further adventures together.  Billy would choose to change his superhero alias, taking on the new moniker of ‘Wiccan.’

One such adventure resulted in Billy meeting Tommy Shepherd and their uncanny resemblance led the two to conclude that they must be brothers.  Just as Billy possessed magical powers similar to those of The Scarlet Witch, Tommy possessed speed powers similar to the Scarlet Witch’s brother, Quicksilver.  The mystery ultimately led Billy, Tommy and The Young Avengers to seek out The Scarlet Witch and therein the two brothers learned the complicated truth of their origins.  

Throughout his adventures, Tommy became involved in a romance with his teammate, Teddy Altman (the shapeshifting hero known as Hulking).  

As Billy’s magical abilities enhanced he found that he could manifest some things into being simply by stating or wishing them aloud.  The potential extent of his abilities was daunting for Billy; even more so when he was approached by Dr. Strange who saw the young mage as possible candidate for becoming the next Sorcerer Supreme.

Billy would later test the upper limits of his magic by attempting to wish Teddy’s dead mother back to life.  At first it appeared as though his magic had actually accomplished the feat, but it turned out that he had inadvertently released the inter-dimensional parasite called ‘Mother’ and Billy and Teddy had to put together a new team of Young Avengers to put a stop to this threat.  

Billy and Teddy later became member of the Roberto DeCosta’s new team of Avengers and they battled numerous foes including alien invaders and the evil sorcerer called Moridun.  Later Wiccan named up with his mother, The Scarlet Witch, and Dr. Strange to fend off the cosmic threat known as The Celestial Destructor.  

Meanwhile, Teddy had approached by representatives of a Kree/Skrull Alliance who sought to utilize him as a figurehead to cement this coalition.  Teddy is the son of the Kree hero Mar-Vell and the Skrull princess Anelle and with this lineage he was the perfect candidate to unit these two warring people.  With so many lives at stake Teddy could not refuse.  Unfortunately, the alliance would forbid Teddy relationship with Billy since Billy is from earth.  As such, the two arranged a quick  wedding in secret before Teddy had to leave for outer space.  

Following the Empyre Event where new Kree/Skrull union had to battle the Cotati, Billy and Teddy were able to have a more formal wedding aboard the Alliance's flagship with a royal celebration attended by the couple’s many friends and allies.  Billy was formally inducted into the Alliance as prince consort and court wizard.
