Knighting Day
Not proofread lol, there's gonna be a lot of mistakes
It was an early spring morning in the earth kingdom. The land was still and the sky was clear with the exception of a couple cumulus clouds. it had rained the night before, so the smell of petrichor was still lingering in the air.
It was Knighting Day.
After years of training, Jude would finally receive his knighthood. He could hardly contain his excitement as he had wanted this ever since he stepped foot into the capital city of the kingdom, ever since…the incident. Nobility, aristocracy, and gentry come far and wide to see their majesty's newest knights swear on their lives to protect the monarch and serve the kingdom. Jude was a special case, for he was to go last because of his history of leading the army (still as a recruit) into battle and emerging victorious every single time. He's to be given special honors, and as soon as he graduates from recruitment to knighthood, he will be promoted to a general in their majesty's army.
Jude woke up in the wee hours of the morning and stayed in bed till they heard the first bells of the day signaling for the city to wake from its slumber. They rushed out of bed and onto the cobblestone floors of the castle to start brushing his chin length, wavy, black hair. He donned his special armored uniform that was a gift from the monarch themself. He polished his boots and frog lipped helmet which was only worn for ceremonial purposes as it had a narrow field of vision.
They were giddy with excitement and had so many butterflies in their stomach they could hardly eat. His life was about to change forever, in more ways than one.
The sky kingdom and the earth kingdom did not get along. One could go as far to even call them enemies. But personal feelings were always pushed aside on special occasions such as Knighting Day. The princesses Cassiopeia and Aurora both went along with their father, the king, down in a gilded carriage pulled by pegasi to the earth kingdom to celebrate the knightings. It was a big deal in every kingdom for knights to graduate. Knighting day didn't happen very often in the sky kingdom because the sky kingdom has no interest whatsoever to war with any land walkers. They simply thought that they were better than land walkers.
Cassiopeia thought it was silly to arrive in a carriage from the sky when they could just fly down. Every cloud walker did have wings, so why couldn't they fly down? She had asked her father about it and he always said “We are royalty, there's no need to do something as common as flying down.” She thinks he does it to make himself look better to other people.
The ceremony started at 1 pm, and the cloudwalker family wanted to make an entrance so they arrived around 12:30 because everyone was already going to be in their assigned seating. Being the only other royal family, the cloudwalkers were placed relatively close to Monarch Salem and near the kneeling cushion. The knighting ceremony had dragged on for about 2 hours until a certain ravenette caught the princess’ attention.
“Jude, the Brave!” called the announcer. Everyone in the room looked up at the last person to be knighted. Cassiopeia couldn't help but stare at this stranger’s dark colored eyes, and the way the sun emblem on his helmet shone underneath the light of the large chandelier. His soft looking wavy, black hair framed their angelic face perfectly. Ohhh, dear Cassiopeia was falling in love, with a land walker no less.
Jude was petrified. All these people staring at them, he didn't know where to look so he just stared into the eyes of the monarch as he walked down the aisle and kneeled on the cushion, ready to vow his life to the monarch.
“Jude, the Brave, do you vow to protect your monarch for as long as you shall live?” asked Monarch Salem. “I do,” he replied. Jude had caught the eyes of Cassiopeia and she wiggled her eyebrows at the poor knight who was already trying not to keel over, Jude was so embarrassed that he only caught the last couple of words Monarch Salem had asked of him. “... and protect your fellow troops?” Jude swallowed the lump in his throat and shakily gave his reply of “I do.”
“May you serve your kingdom well and may good fortune be ever on your side.” put forth Monarch Salem as they used the flat edge of Jude's own sword to knight him.
Cassiopeia animatedly clapped for Jude as he walked back down the aisle, off to the reception. She was going to have to meet him

#reason i wanted to change koe's design was bc i felt like the first one was a bit too basic ig?#wanted to give it more personality beyond being a maid outfit#so a funkier skirt and shorter sleeves and gloves and stuff. idk its more koe and less maid. but still maid#other than that obviously are the two wholly new characters#honestly designing them was interesting in a way bc it was like reverse engineering andys face#i think she takes after her mom more tho#but she also does try to emulate her so thats also part of it#honestly andy is really similar to amary in a lot of ways not just bc of the whole princess thing but the family dynamics to a degree too#there are still some pretty big differences (andy wasnt abused but her father is still really strict and constraining out of worry#and amary's mom was actually kinda the polar opposite of andy's and their emulations are completely different too)#BUT#look read cepheus's flaw. hes not going to be a good guy lol#hes the type that starts out nice enough on the surface but when pushed it will become. again. ends justify the means#very.... 'my way or the highway' type guy i guess. but with power#cassiopeia s more noble than that though despite any arrogance in her skills#its like one side of a balancing act lost#again look at her power. its wings! wings mean freedom! no restraint! touch the sky!#unfortunately kingdoms arent usually about that is the thing#maybe andy can fix it now though#but honestly andy percy and ursa are pretty much all just here for convenience#it wouldve been easier to have a ref post lumping all royals and andy's entourage together. and ursa i guess idk where else shed go lol#i thought abt putting her w the zodiac knights but their theme is too uniform. background color is the same tho so same affiliation#w the royals#also does anyone get my amazing joke. shes a major. major ursa. ursa major. i know i know#ill be here all week#finn's ocs#oc references#finn's art

Note
btw Ovid does say that andromeda was a dark skinned women
Yeah, while her ethnicity and nationality is all over the place in ancient sources she’s very much not a white woman. Last time I drew her her design was based on ancient Egyptian clothing and modern-ish Ethiopian jewelry. Tho now I wanna redesign her a little and make her Afro-Palestinian since the one real location that was specified in her story if Jaffa, Palestine.

Barbie Fun Fact
Symbology of the constellations in island princess
Tumblr media
In the sky of the island it is possible to see the constellations of Cassiopeia, Andromeda, Cepheus and Giraffe, Beyond the Perseus constellation in the ocean sky.
In case you haven't noticed, 4 of these constellations are part of a Greek myth, The Myth of Andromeda. Each constellation represents a character. Andromeda is the princess, Rosella. Chepheus is the father, Sagi. Cassiopeia is the mother, Azul. And Perseus the love of the princess, Antonio.
The classifications are what most mark the characters, but not the acts of the myth itself, after all Cepheus and Cassiopeia delivered their daughter to death, what it represents is only the family position. In addition, each constellation has an astrological meaning that matches the personality of our characters.
Tumblr media
Rosella - Andromeda: Dedicated and good at warming and captivating people's hearts, she does everything for her love, even abandoning herself.
Sagi - Cepheus: Good leader, great sense of justice, unyielding about what he think is right. It stands out for its curiosity.
Azul - Cassiopeia: Great artistic sense, intuitive, confident and sensual. You can end up relying too much on your intuition and end up missing the logic.
Antonio - Perseus: Courageous and likes to face challenges, at first he seems not to be satisfied with his current situation. Euphoric about his hobbies.
Making symbology to the story of the myth, Andromeda is rescued by Perseus who comes in his Pegasus, in this case, Antonio comes in his boat and rescues Ro from the island. Andromeda would be killed by Poseidon's sea monster, beings bound to water, and Ro nearly drowned twice.
Tumblr media
But, what about Tikka? The giraffe has nothing to do with Greek myth, but it has to do with biblical history. How will this make sense? Keep reading.
Tikka- Giraffe: You like things your way, don't like to try hard, She is very restless, and likes to tell and listen to songs that are captivating or captivating.
The constellation of the giraffe comes a biblical episode in which Rebekah rode a "camel" on her way to the city of Canaan to get married. Of course, Tikka wasn't a big fan of Ro and Antonio's relationship. But in the scene where Ro is getting ready for the dance, Tikka shines a bouquet of roses on Ro, emphasizing the wedding. Not to mention that the scene of Ro entering the ball with the bouquet and that dress, was like an affront, like "I'm going to marry him" while it was Luciana's wedding ball with Antonio.

The Great Hunt-Drabble
(I’m not really good at writing canon characters, and this is my first time writing anything in the GoT universe with my characters, so hopefully Petyr Baelish and Sansa sound/is written okay).
Tumblr media
“Are you sure you want to host this hunt, Your Majesty?” Petyr Baelish asked as he and Cassie walked the old hunting forests near the castle. He was in hiding after he and Sansa left King’s Landing after the death of Joffrey Baratheon, and he wheedled in way into the Avalorian court, hoping that the Morrigantes family wasn’t like the Targaryens. So far, he was surprised by the fact that they haven’t shown any madness yet, though a a part of him was confused by the Queen not having anyone a husband. “Nearly everyone in the kingdom would be coming, and, well...” he paused, wondering if he should say this now instead of never. “Things might get a bit...hairy.”
The Queen next to him nodded as she kept looking around, stopping every once in a while to listen to the birds and the wildlife. It was about time that the castle was full of the many families that come for a hunt, drink, and to have a good time. In fact, it was her own brother Alek that suggested it after coming through these lands. “And if these councilmen don’t like it, I’ll shove my axe up their uppity asses-” before his wife hushed him.
Tumblr media
“I’m quite positive that I want to host a hunt, Lord Baelish,” Cassiopeia answered, turning to him. “We haven’t hosted one in years, and the last time we did host one was when my father wanted to, and my brother Alek hosted one after he was married to Serine. If you’re worried about things being hairy, then I think you don’t need to show up...unless,” she said, taking a step towards him. “Some of these families that might make things ‘hairy’ might know you and would kill you for sport?”
Damn, she’s good.
Baelish bit his lip as thought of his answer before the Queen turned around and started to walk again. He ran to catch up to her, hoping to make her change her mind. “That is true-”
“And the Lady Alayne? Do the people I’ve invited coming here know her as well?’ she asked curiously. Cassie knew who Alayne really was-Sansa Stark-and she’d already pledged her allegiance to her anyway, but she wanted to hear it from Baelish’s mouth, since Sansa told her so many things about him. Already Cassie wanted to protect her from her and her enemies, and help her get back to Winterfell.
Baelish lips curled up into a little grin when she asked about Sansa. A lie formed on his lips, to try and calm the dragon queen, to make sure she wasn’t suspicious about them. But none came to Littlefinger, and right then he felt cornered by a dragon who was very protective over little Sansa. “Yes,” he bit out. “They would know who the Lady Alayne is and would do anything to bring her back to King’s Landing.”
“Not if she becomes my daughter.”
“I’m...sorry, Your Majesty?” now he was confused.
“Princess Alayne Samantha Morrigantes,” Cassie answered. “They won’t hurt her if I told them that she’s my daughter.” Of course, she talked all about this to Sansa the night before, and she agreed to it. And seeing the look on Baelish’s face, the ashen look on his face as soon as she said the name-and it was perfect, since Phoenix had already loved her as if she was his sister. “My son loves her already, and she seems happy here. You don’t want to take that away from her, don’t you?’
Baelish opened his mouth, trying to come up with something. But nothing came out of his mouth, and he felt like the rug was taken out from him. “No,” he answered simply.
Cassie smiled as they kept going, finding the forest satisfactory to her-and making Petyr Baelish squirm was the highlight of her day.
~*~*~*~*~*
Tumblr media
“Did he agree?” Sansa asked that night when dinner was over, and she and Phoenix was in Cassie’s room, playing. “Did he say that I can pretend to be your daughter?’ She was holding her breath all day, hoping that she would no longer be under Baelish’s thumb. She quite liked being in Avaloria, she felt safe and happy. In fact, she’d never thought she’d laugh again after everything she’d went though.
Cassie smiled at her and nodded. “We do need to christen you as the princess,” she said, not being able to finish that statement before Sansa hugged her.
“Thank you, thank you, thank you!” she said with a smile, feeling like a weight has been lifted it from her shoulders.
The Dragon Queen laughed as she stroked her new daughter’s head. Even if its for a little while, she at least had a daughter. When she opened her mouth to welcome her to the family, her son did it for her, running up and hugging her side, making her laugh.
“So so so Lady Sansa’s gonna be my sister, mama?” he asked. “I gotta call her, call her Princess Ala, Alayne in public, right mama?”
She nodded laughing. “Of course you do. Only in private you call her Sansa, okay?’ Cassie told her, picking him up and kissing the both of them on the forehead.

the ancient greeks literally named the aethiopians after "burned face", made multiple sculptures and pottery of heads that are clearly black, but Andromeda still got portrayed as white even though everything points to her being black

Better than him.
James Potter x Reader, based on 'Boyfriend' by Dove Cameron.
Tumblr media
James Potter thought of himself as a lucky man.
He had everything he wanted: Good grades, good friends, a good life. The only thing he wanted, which he worried he might never have, was you.
Y/n Cassiopeia Black, twin sister to the elusive and handsome Regulus Black. But despite being at the same school, and being best mates with your older brother, the space between the both of you was almost impossible to cross. You were cold and indifferent - sticking with your friends and Regulus - and avoided James like the plague. You rarely spoke, supposedly scorned by his theft of your older brother, and when you did converse, it was usually under the watchful eyes of Charles Nott, your betrothed.
At the age of 16, you had been auctioned and sold to the highest bidder, wrapped in his vice like grip. James watched from the side-lines as the eyes that used to shine like her brother's name-sake, faded.
He had tried to become besotted with Lily, a beautiful and intelligent girl, but it was futile. Your power over him was strong, his urge to move on with Lily too weak. But a strong friendship between the Head Boy and Girl did blossom, so James ended up ranting to Lily about his situation.
“James I don’t know what to say. Y/n is one of the most prized girls in school and her circle is small. Your best bet to get her attention is to ask Sirius to introduce you,” Lily paused to brush her long hair out of her eyes and behind her shoulder with a thoughtful look, “Of course, that’s if she’s willing to speak to Sirius, I don’t think I’ve seen them together since last year.”
James sighed. He already knew that you had closed yourself off after losing your brother, and he grimaced thinking about how hurt you must feel. He knew that Sirius was still mourning his loss as heir to the House of Black, and heard him crying at night when his ache for his little siblings grew too heavy.
“I know,” James fiddled with his glasses, face heating up. “Maybe it’s best if I just leave it. It’s a pipe dream that a girl like that would ever go for a guy like me.” James moved to pick up his books from the library table and head to his dorm, mood low. Lily gasped and slapped his hand away.
“Definitely not! I remember Remus telling me that you two were completely smitten and oblivious to it despite belonging to rival houses. The James Potter should definitely not give up this easily,” Lily’s brows were lowered in an expression of seriousness, her lips thin, “I’ve got an idea. You know the Christmas Ball is this weekend?”
Of course James knew the Christmas Ball was this weekend. The whole school had been preparing for it since it was announced early November, a night of bliss and relaxation to temporarily ignore the deteriorating state of the outside World. James’ parents had already sent him his dress robes, and he saw that last Tuesday you had received a large parcel in the mail which he guessed must of been your dress.
“Yes, but I don’t see why that matters? She’ll be going with Charles. He proposed in August.” James spat, anger lacing into his words. Lily merely rolled her eyes and huffed.
“So? Steal her away! Ask her to dance and charm her! I’m sure it won’t be that difficult, it’s not as if she’s in love with Nott,” Lily placed her hands on the table and leaned towards him, “She’ll definitely leave him for you, she’s always been sympathetic towards muggle-born’s and I heard her talking about how she wishes she didn’t have to marry Nott. Give her a reason, Be her reason, and she’ll leave her supremacist family and be with you.” James scoffed and leaned back in his chair, watching as Lily reclined also.
“I don’t think it’ll be that easy. She loves Regulus and she fits the role as ‘Slytherin’s Princess’ perfectly. I don’t want to put myself out there for her if she’s already too far gone.”
“Believe me. She’s not. People don’t look at each other like you two do.” Lily smiled at him, certainty blazing in her emerald eyes, “You could be her new beginning, and I really think she wants that. She loves Regulus and she always will, but I know that he would value her happiness and I doubt that she wouldn’t love to have a reason to escape,” Lily’s hand reached over to James’ and clasped it, “I really believe that you two would work. I want to see you happy James, please trust me.”
James’ lips formed a smile, and he felt hope blare in his chest. If Lily, the smartest girl he knew, believed that he stood a chance, then he had faith. He squeezed her hand and stood up, collecting his books and shoving them into his bag.
“I trust you, now watch me get my girl.”
————————————————————————-
The Great Hall looked beautiful, you thought, as you entered. The ceiling showcased a clear starry sky, and the decorations shone and sparkled in the candle light. Ice sculptures decorated the corners, and 12 great circle tables surrounded a square dance floor and far off, adjacent the teachers table, was a long buffet and drinks table laden with Honeydukes delights and crisp pumpkin juice. Charles, your financeé, gripped your hand tighter and dragged you to a table with his friends, only slightly admitting how beautiful you looked in your F/c gown. Charles' friends briefly acknowledged you (with a few appreciative eyebrow raises) before ignoring your presence entirely. Across the room, you spotted your older brother and his friends, who hadn't seemed to notice your entrance just yet. Sirius looked remarkable like always, a classic example of the Black families striking looks. Even Remus looked quite handsome in his robes, and Peter had cleaned up nicely. Admittedly, you thought, James looked incredibly good in his robes and had caught your eye as soon as you entered the Great Hall. His robes were tailored to his fit physique perfectly, and his hazel eyes shone with excitement. Although he hadn't managed to tame his hair, you secretly appreciated how well it framed his face.
"Admiring the blood traitor, Y/n?" Rosier, one of Charles' close friends, scoffed. You turned back to the table, missing James' look your way, and shot a smile in Rosier's direction.
"Of course not," you replied, entangling your arm from Charles' grip, "But you have to admit that he does look very enjoyable in his robes." you smirked, watching as Charles' face contorted into a sneer. He made to grab for you, already muttering about your incompetence with an extremely angry look on his face. He wrapped his hand around your arm hard, pulling you close enough to whisper in your ear. Despite being pulled into his side, his body still angled away from you, like you didn't matter at all. From across the hall, you wondered whether it looked like it was a lover's embrace. It was anything but. You spared no love for Charles, and it was no secret. Rosier and the others all sniggered, slurs tumbling from their lips and their faces a mixture of disgust and outrage.
"Y/n, you should watch your mouth. You don't want people thinking that you agree with your mutt of a brother, do you?" Charles asked, his face settling into a blank stare. Your brows lowered and your lips curled, before quickly schooling features once more. You simply hummed, avoiding Charles' eyes. "Now run along to Regulus. I'll come to you when I need you." He unwrapped his hand from your arm and pushed you away, before turning back to his group. You wondered through Hall, greeting friends, before making a bee-line for your twin. The dancing had begun, a light tempo that sent couples soaring over the floor. You watched in admiration, the way they held each other, looking into each others eyes like no one else existed, souls mingling and stretching across the floor. You wished you could be swept along the floor, lost in the steps and the feel of your partners hands. The partner you imagined never had the Nott green eyes and cigar scented yellowed palms, he always had the face of your older brother's best friend.
From behind you, you heard somebody cough to catch your attention, and you turned on your heel to come face to face with James Potter, watching his already huge smile grow wider. His hands were in his trouser pockets, his body angled towards you so completely that you couldn't even acknowledge other's brushing up against you.
"I can't believe we're finally alone, I've been trying to catch you since you arrived, you look so beautiful," James revealed, blush drifting across his cheeks, "I almost went back up to the dorm."
"Well that would've been a shame, Potter" you smiled back, easing towards him, "I was hoping to see you on the dance floor."
James laughed, a sound that sent shudders down your spine and took his hand out of his pocket to push up his glasses that had fallen down his nose. "What are the chances? I wanted to see you on the dance floor too," James squared his shoulders and cleared his throat "Everyone's dancing, yet you aren't, somebody that I know is stuck by dance fever frequently, and he's not with you," James leaned forward and smirked, "the Universe must of divined us, little Black, it looks like we're destined to dance together tonight."
You could almost see the thoughts fly across his face as he grabbed your wrist before you could even object, pulling you towards the dance floor. The music had changed to a sweet, mouldable beat, sweeping partners across the floor in unique waltzes and dips. James positioned you on the floor, a large hand leaving a burning touch on you waist and the other slipping into you awaiting hand as you breathlessly laughed. Your hands fit together perfectly, just like his hand rested so perfectly on the curve of your waist. He started leading, smiling down at you as though you placed the stars in the sky, a twinkle in his bespectacled eyes. You followed readily, returning his smile and placing you hand on his shoulder, heat building and spreading under your dress at your close contact.
You were flying, soaring, just two people in a sea of revellers. You didn't slip from his gaze, totally unfettered, lost in him. You never stumbled, never faltered, you recalled every conversation, every lingering glance, every lasting touch, knowing you were utterly enthralled. James looked the same, captivated by your presence, stuck in your energy. You saw the words bubble in him, and your heart soared when he stopped biting his tongue.
"Y/n," he whispered, drawing you closer, his face a picture intimacy, "I could be a better boyfriend than him," you sucked in air, but didn't draw from his arms. James tightened his grip on your hip as you looked deeply into his eyes, "I could do all the shit that he never does," he flared his fingers against your waist, "I'll stay up all night for you, I won't quit. I'm thinking that I'm going to steal you from him," he dropped his head to press against your forehead, your joined hands tight as you still manoeuvred around the floor, "I could be such a gentleman, plus all my clothes would look so good on you." You slowed to a stop, dancers fluttering around you as you ended up at a loss for words, mouth agape and your heart singing. "I could be so much better for you than him."
"James..." you unlaced your joined hands, already missing his touch, as he stared at you desperately. You knew that everything he said was true, and James was nothing if not an honest man. He made you smile, kept you safe, always thought of you as the prettiest girl in the room. You were in love with James Potter, but it wasn't as easy as that. You had to worry about your brother, Regulus, and the future of your family. While your parents were definitely not kind and nurturing, they were all you had. You didn't have James Potter to whisk you away if Sirius didn't allow him too. You wanted James, more than you'd ever want Charles and his prejudice. Your eyes watered, and you suddenly felt lost.
"I don't need to tell you twice all the ways he can't suffice, he wouldn't care about your happiness, or your dancing or your smile," James' unwavering hope warmed you, cocooning you in a safety net when you felt like you were falling from the Astronomy Tower. James wanted to be your new beginning, your second chance. He wanted to cuddle you on cold nights and to show you the beauty of the muggle world and all its secrets, "If I could give you some advice baby, I'd leave with me tonight." His desperation slipped from his face, replaced with a confident smirk, as if he saw your facade melting, as if he could see you melting in his arms, as if he knew that you were going to choose him, just like you would every single time.
"You'll help me get through it?" you asked, and James immediately knew that you meant the sparking fall out between you and your parents, and the Nott family. James took your face in his hands, love shining in his eyes, before placing a chaste kiss on your forehead.
"I'd give you my heart if you asked, darling, of course I'll help. Besides, what's another Black sibling in my house? if your brother comes I'll have the full set." you shared a laugh, biting back the tears that threatened to spill.
"You'd like that." you said between laughs.
"I'd love it." he answered, leaning back and taking your hand in his once again. He led you back off the dance floor, both of you blushing madly and smiling merrily. Towards the left of the hall, you spotted James' friends watching you both intently, glasses raised. Lily Evans seemed particularly excited, emerald eyes aglow with excitement as she waved enthusiastically and gave James a thumbs up. Sirius and Regulus stood further away, small smiles on their faces as they watched their little sister walk out of the hall with the resident trouble maker. No complaints rose up their throats, just unbridled joy for their sister who finally looked happy. James and Y/n didn't look at anyone else as they left hand in hand, not even at a furious Charles Nott, hands balled in tight fists. They ignored the open mouthed stares and muttered remarks, completely absorbed in each other.
The next day, Charles would arrive at his dorm to an owl waiting by the open window. Tied to his leg was a envelope, and Charles reached for it immediately. Ripping it open, he tore the piece of paper out and dumped its contents on his bed. Gleaming back at his sneering face was the ring he gave Y/n when he proposed, and scribbled on the letter was one sentence:
'I suppose you were right Charles, I do have a taste for blood-traitors.’

Princess Luna and Nightmare Moon
Oooo Spooky! I had a lot of fun with this one! Hidden above Luna is the constellation Cetus, and above Celestia is Cassiopeia :) Andromeda was in my old princess twilight painting, but I think I want to redo that one in the future

Tumblr media
It was an accident really. Well, less of an accident and more of a cruel twist of fate if you had to summarise it. After all, such a cliche thing to happen. The lady-in-waiting to the Princess falls in love with the visiting Prince her future ruler is tied to in an arranged marriage.
Had any sensible person heard the predicament you were in they may have sympathised but still scoffed at how foolishly the two of you were behaving. Desperately entangling yourselves with one another despite the inevitable heartbreak that was bound to come any day now.
“Did I ever tell you how much I love the stars?” You led on your back on the grass underneath the night’s sky, delicately raising a hand to trace invisible lines between each star above you. Oscar chuckled next to you as his hand slid over yours, joining you in your night sky tracing, “I believe you may have mentioned it once or twice before…” You gave a faint smile as your arm grew tired, choosing to link your hand with his and rest them by your sides. “Have I ever told you why?” Oscar rolled onto his side, facing you as his eyes searched yours, smiling at the way they reflected the moonlight,
“Actually, I don’t think you have told me that.” You sat up quickly, always excited to share the story with someone.
Oscar sat up before he moved to sit behind you, pulling you to lean back into his chest as his arms encircled your body, head gently resting on your shoulder. “See that star up there?” You pointed to almost directly above you, “That’s the North Star isn’t it?” You nodded and turned your head to reward his correct answer with a soft kiss to the cheek. “Mmhmm! When I was a child, my mother used to tell me stories of the stars every night…” You sighed happily at the memories, “There was one story that I loved far more than any others. The story of Perseus and Andromeda.” “I think I learned about that a long time ago… During my classical classes…” “Show off…” You reached one hand up to gently flick his nose. “Well, the story goes that Princess Andromeda was a very beautiful woman. Her mother, Queen Cassiopeia, claimed her daughter was more beautiful than Poseidon’s daughters. As punishment for her vanity, Poseidon sent the sea monster Cetus. Andromeda’s father, King Cepheus, trusted the sea monster to disappear if they were to sacrifice her. Just before she was devoured by the sea monster, Perseus came by on his flying horse Pegasus. He was on his way home after one of his great adventures. Perseus fell in love with the beautiful Andromeda and struck a deal with her parents. Perseus would save their daughter by killing the sea monster and in return he would be allowed to marry her. Andromeda however, was already promised to marry another man, Phineus. A fight arose between the two which Perseus eventually won. And so Perseus and Andromeda lived happily ever after.”
Oscar smiled at the sight of your eyes lighting up as you told the story. He nuzzled his nose into your neck making you giggle as you carried on, “All of the people in the story were placed in the sky by the gods, so their story would never be lost. Perseus and Andromeda are still positioned close together in the sky, where they rotate around the North Star, see?” Oscar’s eyes followed to where you were pointing once more. He kissed your cheek as you gave a happy contented little hum.“Mother always used to say that lovers who needed advice or guidance would talk to the stars… And that those confessions of lovers to the stars meant that their love would last forever, just like Perseus and Andromeda…” You reached for the bouquet of daisies you’d picked earlier that evening.
“You know..." Slowly, you plucked each petal off of the daisies you carefully held. "I told the stars about you." Oscar chuckled, not expecting to hear such words from the lady sitting with him. "What did you tell them?" You turned to look at him and smiled, staring at his brown eyes. "I told them you have your own constellations on your cheeks." Your stare landed on the faint few freckles dotted on his face. He laughed, "What? What does that even mean?"
You showed him a half smile before looking down at the daisies and plucking the petals again. "I told the stars you have more stars in your eyes than there are stars in the sky"
His smile slowly faded, instead he looked almost like he was holding his breath, like he didn’t dare breath incase it ruined the moment, "I told them that you are the moon that shines brightest in my eyes when I'm surrounded by darkness. I told them I always wish for you on a shooting star." You gave him the daisies you had been holding since you’d sat next to him. All petals now plucked. Oscar looked confused as he took the flowers, about to open his mouth.
"Do you want to know why?” You cut him off with a sweet smile before he could even open his mouth to answer, “Because I got tired of asking the flowers if you love me or not." “Y/N…” Oscar’s voice was barely above a whisper. You spoke softly, "Do you know what the stars replied?"
"W-what?" He thought he’d lost his voice for a moment.
You smiled.
"Go after him."
Silence. “So will you…” “I'm in love with the King-to-be, and I'm inquiring if he loves me too…” Oscar’s eyes lit up and in that moment, you felt as if all the air had been taken from you. One of your hands gently cupped his face as your thumb rubbed over his cheekbone, “You really do have stars in your eyes.” “And your eyes hold the whole galaxy, my love.” Oscar pulled you close to him and sighed in contentment as you shyly buried your face into his shoulder, the stars twinkling at you both from above, as if centuries of lovers were sprinkling their blessing on the two of you. In hindsight you supposed it might have been a warning, that heartbreak would ensue no matter how much you loved him ⋆。゚☁︎。⋆。 ゚☾ ゚。⋆
“I told the stars about you!” Oscar cried out.
You stopped. “I told the stars about you,” he repeated, trying and failing to hold back tears that were already falling, “I told them that I would never let you become one and end up so far away from me, I told them how you said you would always stay by my side, and...” Oscar looked back at you, where you were now facing him.
“I told them I loved you.” Your eyes widened slightly before your face fell again.
“...We always knew this was going to happen. We cannot change what our fate is, Oscar, I mean…” You looked back down at the ground, clenching your fists tightly before you spoke again. “Your Highness-”
“Don’t call me that, Y/N.” Oscar said immediately, rushing up to you. “Y-you’re not a lady-in-waiting. I'm not a Prince. We’re just Oscar and Y/N, two people who fell in love the instant they saw one another.” He stared at you, not fighting the tears anymore. “Two people who fell in love under the stars… I want that Y/N back.” Your heart broke as his voice cracked, overcome with emotion. “Please my love…”
But still you said nothing
“Where’s the Y/N who would tell me she loved me, the Y/N who vowed to be by my side forever, and… the Y/N who would tell the stars about me?” You finally looked up at him, and Oscar searched your eyes desperately for a shred of his Y/N in you. A lone tear spilt over and fell down your cheek. Sparkling in the moonlight, it almost looked like a shooting star. ‘How ironic.’ He thought to himself bitterly. You wiped the tear away and as quickly as it had appeared it was gone.
Oscar’s eyes darkened, and he wiped his face, his expression hardening, “My apologies, Lady Y/N.” He said, his voice cold. “This has been rather inappropriate. I believe you must have somewhere to be?” “My apologies, your Highness. Permission to leave?” It was time to accept that the old Y/N was gone, leaving a stranger in front of him. And if his Y/N was gone, there was no reason to keep taking up a stranger’s time.
“...Granted.” You began to move before you hesitated, leaned into his side, whispered something, and left. Oscar’s eyes widened once again, and a tear fell down his cheek.
“I never stopped telling the stars about you.”
Oscar quickly turned around to watch you leave. A pained smile slowly spread across his face. He didn’t try to stop you. You wore a similar smile as you forced your feet to walk away. You wanted nothing more than to kiss him once again, but that was a dream you couldn’t have anymore. It was a dream you’d have to tell the stars about.

On love and sacrifices
There’s so much more to this scapegoating business and big sacrifices referenced in the Good Omens narrative than the literal goats. And they’re only getting bigger, louder, final.
But let’s take it slow and start with the beginning, quite literally — i.e., with the Good Omens 2 title sequence. As we follow Aziraphale and Crowley on their journey, the universe warps and their usual left and right side positioning switches during the magic show (not accidentally an act of trust and sacrifice required both from the angel and the demon). They stay so throughout the next scene, which is their little dance in the air, and after they seemingly get settled on the A. Z. Fell and Co.’s roof and back to normal, the flipped sky in the background suggests that something’s not quite right yet. In the central part of the shot looms a large, humanlike shadow of the Elephant Trunk Nebula.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The nebula is a part of a constellation called Cepheus, after an Ethiopian king from the Greek mythology who agreed to sacrifice his only daughter in order to appease the gods and end a local calamity started by her mother and his wife, Cassiopeia (talk about generational responsibility). With time and a delightfully ironic twist of fate, the name of said daughter, Andromeda, became more famous than that of her father. Although she was chained up to a rock and offered to the sea serpent Cetus, the girl was spotted by the warrior Perseus, casually flying over the sea — either on the back of the Pegasus or thanks to a pair of winged sandals — after his victory over Medusa. He fell in love on the spot, defeated the serpent (with the help of a magical sword or Medusa’s severed head, depending on the varying sources), and freed the princess. That’s not exactly where their story ends, but we won’t be getting into the rest here.
Tumblr media
Not surprisingly, Neil has mentioned two parallel child sacrifice stories from the biblical context back in August. The first is one of the big ones — The Binding of Isaac. God's command to sacrifice Isaac, his only son, was a test of Abraham's faith. The angel of the Lord intervenes and provides a ram to be sacrificed in the boy’s place.
The second one isn’t nearly as popular, but you might have heard a variant of it in fairy tales or as the Law of Surprise invoked in The Witcher saga. In exchange for Israel’s victory over its enemies in battle, Jephthah had rashly promised God to repay the debt with the first thing seen on his return back home. The victorious warrior didn’t suspect to see his only child moving innocently "to meet him with timbrels and with dances" though. In horror, Jephthah covered his eyes with his cloak, but to no avail: ultimately, he was forced to honor his vow to God, and the girl was sacrificed. As grisly as it might look like in the Old Master’s paintings, it’s important to remember that human sacrifices weren’t limited to physical offerings only — Jephthah’s daughter might have been offered to God in the sense of officially shunning her family and dedicating her life to service instead, probably sequestered in a temple somewhere.

Interestingly, the main character of a big chunk of the Bible and the reason for the Second Coming happens to be THE most influential child sacrifice in the modern history. You know, a certain 33-year-old carpenter sent by his Heavenly Father to die on a cross for the sins of the mankind? Someone better call Aubrey Thyme ASAP.
Circling back to Aziraphale, he could be also seen as a representative of the concept of filial piety, since Eden willing to personally take a Fall not only for the humanity’s collective or individual transgressions, but the shortcomings of his Ineffable Parental Figure as well. Our favorite angel angel always fights for what is right and good, sure, but why would that be even a thing if God was truly omniscient, omnipresent, and omnipotent?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If Aziraphale’s medal is anything to go by, it looks like we might get an answer from the way it’s introducing another mythological narrative into the game, that is the story of Daedalus and Icarus. The most absorbing thing about this is the stark contrast to the recurring child sacrifice references for S3 mentioned in this post — Daedalus isn’t a father who wanted to sacrifice his son, it was his attempt to save him from imprisonment that ultimately drove Icarus to his death. The boy ignored his father’s explicit instructions, committing the grave and culturally universal sin of disobedience to one's parents that simply couldn’t go unpunished, one way or another.
But Icarus’s transgression could be seen both as high-flying ambition and striving for personal accomplishment as well as humanitarian sacrifice for knowledge and humanity’s advancement in general.
Similarly to a certain angel who left everything for what superficially seems like a work promotion, but is the ultimate act of love — both for his demon and the children they have been protecting and nurturing together for six thousand years. From the very Beginning, his white wings have been shielding everything he holds dear in this world.
