The best thing about Dungeon Meshi is that it shows a realistic friendgroup where everyone is autistic about very different things that don't interest each other at all, but they each retain information about each others' special interest simply through proximity and caring about each other.

It's like the opposite of Princess Jellyfish, where no one really intermingles outside of parallel play. But in Dunmeshi, the interests overlap and they grow closer because they all enhance each other's autism. Idk it feels a lot like how I now have even more context for the movie Suzume because my friend who's into nuclear radiation told me niche stuff he knows about the Fukushima disaster. Some new headcanons that developed after GOBB 6 (Mostly toadster, Slight spoliers??)

Tw: Emotional neglect, Isolation, abandonment, and a single mention of disassociation

Toadster was in a very impressionable state when he was found by Bouncelia and the the others, he had no mentor figure other than the scientists that threw him out and the hero's of the western movies

Sir Dadadoo thinks of Toadster as his son

Stinger flynn's "Flashbacks" are disassociations about the poor jellyfish just wanting a beach day with his friends but his mind keeps ruining it

It wasn't uncommon for Toadster to be locked in a room whenever he disobeyed the scientists in the slightest way, obviously this gave him major trust issues and he has a problem with getting attached to quickly (at least he sees this as a flaw within himself)

If the scientists taught Toadster to be a hero through cowboy movies it wouldn't suprise me if the forced very toxic views onto him like "Big tough heroes don't show weakness" or "Heroes don't cry" that sort of thing

Speaking of this, Toadster used to have a lot of western themed toys during his early stages of development at some point though they were thrown away cause one of the scientists decided he didn't need them anymore, one of them being a stuffed horse that Toadster cherished very deeply. Needless to say that really messed him up

Once Sir Dadadoo had heard about that he had managed to retrieve most of toadsters toys, including his stuffed horse. Unfortunately he wasn't able to give them to him before he was locked away but Sir Dadadoo always kept the stuffed horse on his person ready to hand it to it's rightful owner

Wholesome one: One time Toadster had watched "The princess and the frog" and he mentioned wondering if he would turn into a handsome prince if he was kissed to Sir Dadadoo, who humored him and gave him a little crown and cape to wear

my current favorite thing: my fucked up bg3 polycule of halsin/astarion/shadowheart/+ my durge. astarion came with at the brothel (soup store) so he counts. he gets to be part. he can come with on weekends.

micaiah/vika: they talk what, twice? but it's a really good twice. i've decided it's my new favorite thing. two semi-emotionally unavailable girls who should be girlfriends.

(the audience applauds) and i've been thinking about maribelle/libra. i think there's some good potential there. i like the maribelle supports where she doesn't get caught up on her husband being low born and her supports with libra felt very, hmm, productive?

Currently Watching: the fall of the house of usher! i think i've got...one or two episodes left (probably one?) and i'm so tense! it's been real good, and i'm honestly impressed with how much i've been liking it. i think i've realized i like horror movies that are comeuppance stories, but where it's very merited. i watched the menu recently and really liked that too.

Currently Consuming: uh. lavender flavored rock candy and the dregs of an iced coffee.

currently watching: Actually a lot of things at once because some are coming out serially. I'm currently watching new futurama and fionna and cake as they release(both amazing btw) and redwall in between!(redwall is also amazing)

other stuff i watched this year: It's been my movie year bc I've been sick and my friends and I have been seeing movies instead of doing other stuff. I saw the mario movie, honor among thieves, barbie, bottoms, spiderman, and others I might be forgetting. I also watched red white and royal blue bc one of my friends is completely obsessed with it and watches it every day. for shows I watched utena, ace attorney anime, princess jellyfish, adventure time, and the end of the owl house(imo actually good ending despite the rushed development).

shows i dropped this year/didn’t finish: I watched MOST of stone ocean however netflix sharing rules kicked me off before i could finish ): I also watched, like, 2 episodes of veep at the suggestion of a friend and did not enjoy it much.

currently reading: well I'm not sure I am really currently reading much of anything(brain fried) but we've been passing around a copy of red white and royal blue because again one of my friends is obsessed with it so I'm hoping to read that, I hear it's really godawful

currently listening to (sneaky additional question!): I don't listen to podcasts at all, I do not like the format. Currently listening to music, I suppose. Lately been obsessed with Troldhaugen, 6:33, I hate sex, Poh Hock

currently working on: My comms mostly, and also a game project with some homies. They've been doing a lot of programming work for a game they wanna release and decided to bring me on for art a few days ago, so that's been in the brain microwave
