Hi! I love your analysis/parellels on jurdan! If you're open to questions, what do you think Nicasia & Cardan talked about during Jude's exile? Nicasia told Jude in QoN she was able to get some story from Cardan about them. She knew he was in love with her and she knew he sent her the dress for Prince Dain's coronation. Why would Cardan even tell her those things? Thanks in advance!💙
Heya, bestie.
Many thanks! I'm glad you love my little analyses and parallel posts 💗
I'm always open to questions and asks, the only thing is, I always feel I might not have that satisfactory an answer all the time 🙈
So let's start with the disappointing stuff: I've never much thought of what Nicasia and Cardan might have talked because that's all gonna be assumptions and I try very hard to stick close to the canon stuff. (You'll hardly find head canons on my blog too) I don't read fan-fic either (except the few not very long posts I find here on Tumblr)
However, now that you asked, something clicked in my head, let's see if it makes sense as I write it out.
How Nicasia knew that Cardan sent Jude the dress for Prince Dain's coronation and why he must've told her that?
I think it was mainly because Nicasia had asked him to make the mortal girls suffer,
Tumblr media
—The Prince of Elfhame Stomps Around, How The King of Elfhame Learned to Hate Stories
and besides Cardan's personal reasons for selecting the dress he did, he probably told Nicasia (and maybe the others) just so that they could tell which one was Jude and which one was Taryn because not all of them could recognize Jude just by the way she looked at Cardan :) (tho it doesn't seem like a solid reason now that I've written it coz it's not like anything was planned for the twins on that day except for the few lines Cardan said which made Jude feel confused.) As for
How Nicasia got more of the story out of Cardan and how she knew he loved her?
This I believe is something he must've simply confessed given the heartbroken state and time in which he wrote letter after letter without a single response. He did, after all, consider her a friend, no? 🙈
ps: if anyone wants to add to this, plz do.
Thanks for the ask!
—bee 💗

no okay because i HAVE been sitting here thinking the campaign ends after they reach the hole in the sea. but i totally misinterpreted "its choice to be made with no time to mourn". i thought that meant the choice is made, and then its over. the world is doomed. all is lost. BUT what it ACTUALLY means is once the choice is made, no time to dwell on it, they have to jump right back into action to seal the entity away again!!!

I have a lasting fondness for the anime Princess Jellyfish. I especially love its attention to quirky fashions.
Here's fan art loosely inspired by the anime where my intent was to interpret jellyfish aesthetics into fashion.

I know we're all over this topic right now. But one of the main things I think was important in the original The Little Mermaid that the remake totally missed was that Ariel's faith was in a person.
She starts out having faith in an idea. A vague concept. "Humans might be wonderful and worth loving because they make wonderful things. They might not be barbarians. They might even understand me."
Tumblr media
And that's great. She has some evidence to put her faith in. But that evidence is how kind and harmless a scatter-brained seagull is, and his nonsense explanations of human trinkets.
So she deduces that the humans might not all be bad and they might actually be wonderful. If they can make things, maybe they must be inventive--maybe they see the world as full of possibilities--just like she does.
Tumblr media
And that's enough to make her argue with her dad, the king, and buck against the entire undersea worldview.
It's enough to make her spend her days collecting and dreaming.
It's enough to make her visit the surface despite the fact that it's forbidden and potentially a risk to her life.
But the collection, the good Surface-Seagull, and all her guesses about the Surface are not enough to make her leave her family and her world behind.
And the original movie's creators knew that the audience needed to see that, in Act 1.
She thinks about it. But she doesn't actually pull the trigger. She doesn't actually take the leap of faith, or make the big sacrifice.
Not until she meets a person who embodies all the things she's hoped were true after her experiences with trinkets and seagulls.
Tumblr media
When Ariel discovers Eric, he brings all her dreams about what the Surface might be like to life. He makes it real.
That's why she's in love with him. There's a combination of "he's everything I hoped humans would be...and he's even better, because I know how he feels."
In the Script for The Little Mermaid, when Eric asks if Grimsby is still "sore because I didn't fall for the Princess of Glowerhaven," there's just one break in the dialogue before Grimsby responds. It says "Ariel listens closely."
Tumblr media
Because that's important. It's not just because she thinks he's handsome and she's listening to learn more about what his love life is like. She's listening closely because there's a conflict, like the ones she has with her father, and she wants to see if this human is "reprimanded" for his way of thinking or not.
Tumblr media
She not only finds a human who is brave, sacrifices himself for an animal, and free to explore--she also finds a human who has dreams that the people around him can't understand.
He makes her ideals real, and expands on them, just by being himself.
Ariel learns precisely what she needs to about him, in one scene, for her in-character response to be "falls deeply in love."
And he's the straw that breaks the camel's back. Suddenly it's all real to her. Now she can sacrifice. Now she has something powerful enough to put her faith in--now she has someone worth loving enough to take a big leap of faith to.
Tumblr media
That's why having her forget that she needs to kiss him, and having her only decide to give up her life under the sea when Ursula specifically mentions "never leave home again," is not Ariel. It implies that most prominent reason for her sacrifice was so that she could be free to explore instead of imprisoned where nobody gets her. But that's not Ariel. That's not the most important reason behind why she left in the original movie. She left because she finally had someone to love, and put her faith in.
She left for love, not independence. She left for Eric, not just for herself. You can dislike that all you want, but then you're disliking Ariel. Because that's who she is; that's why she did it.

It never hit me that Cardan and Nicasia were actually engaged until I read your post analyzing their relationship. I know they had plans, but I didn't realize it was an official engagement. Do you think when Nicasia asked Cardan to come back to the Undersea with her, it was her way of proposing? If not, which one do you think proposed and how?
Proposing in the faerie world is very different from the mortal world. The fae don't kneel on one knee and pull out a diamond ring. Because Cardan and Nicasia are part of their own royal bloodline the moment they started a serious romantic relationship was the moment it was expected of them to someday be married to be the King and Queen of the Undersea. Since Cardan wasn’t at all favored in Elfhame, it was clear that he would someday rule the sea with his then-lover Nicasia, who is the only heir to Queen Orlagh’s throne. Both Nicasia and Cardan fully embraced that someday they would be married and rule together. All of Elfhame and the Undersea expected it to happen, it would have been a useful peace treaty between land and sea.
Nicasia and Cardan becoming lovers was an automatic engagement for them both. They didn't go through the typical courting process and there was no formal proposal like the one between Cardan and Jude in TWK. Neither of them proposed to each other, since Cardan was the Prince of Elfhame and Nicasia the Princess of the Undersea then it was an automatic engagement. The moment they became lovers, they also became engaged.
Even in the 5th chapter of The Stolen Heir, when Hyacinthe talks to Wren about Oak’s seductive powers, he goes on to mention Nicasia as Cardan’s former betrothed.
“Oaks half brother [Locke] is said to have made both Jude and her twin, Taryn, his lovers and stolen Cardan’s former betrothed [Nicasia] from his side”
(the stolen heir, chap 5, pg 93)
When I first read this quote last year, I was like, "Hold up…they were betrothed to each other?" but it obviously makes sense that they were.
Yes, Nicasia and Cardan had plans, and they spoke to each other about what they're future would be like. When Nicasia asked Cardan to join her and go away with her to the Undersea I believe that was also her way of just wanting him by her side (Reminder: Nicasia doesn't like Elfhame, she sees everything there beneath her, and she was very much in love in cardan....in her own way) and no, that wasn't her way of proposing, because once again, they were already engaged to each other. Hope that helps.

Cardan’s letters pov
Part 1: overcautious
A/n: because I can’t do much else here’s another alternate pov. thank you to @darlingod for helping me with the order of the letters. It’s quite short and the other parts will be up soon, shouldn’t take as long as my other one. Lmk if you wanna be tagged
Part 2
She still wasn’t back.
It has been a week and a half.
And I was beginning to panic.
Until pardoned by the crown. I’d made it as clear for her as I could think to without the Undersea knowing I wasn’t planning to leave her in exile forever.
But she’d killed my brother. After I explicitly told her not to.
However it was Jude, and it was what Jude did best- act now ask questions later. And she wouldn’t’ve done so without reason.
“Your majesty,” Randalin followed me as I walked through the halls, the bastard.
“What.”
Jude would probably laugh that I had to actually talk to one of my advisors.
“Princess Nicasia wishes to speak to you.”
“I do not wish to speak to her.”
“It might be good to at least sit down with her, remove some of the… uh… tensions that remain after Prince Balekin’s murder.” I was taller than the man so he had to hurry to keep up with me, it brought me a slight amount of petty satisfaction.
“Again, I do not wish to speak to her.” Didn’t this is guy ever shut up? This was exactly why I made Jude go to council meetings.
“Well then there is also the matter of finding a new seneschal since you exiled your last one-”
I cut him off before I punched him. I wasn’t a particularly violent person, but I would make an exception for him. “This can wait till the next meeting.”
“Of course your majesty.” He turned around and walked the other way.
I opened the door to my room. And slammed it behind me.
There was a hole in my chest. I’d never felt like this before, this longing and guilt. And fear that perhaps something had happened to her.
I sat at the desk for the first time since I’d moved in here, grabbed a quill and began writing on a blank piece of parchment.
Jude,
I stared at her name. What could I say? There was always the risk of the letters being intercepted, especially with Madoc unaccounted for, so I couldn’t say too much, would she want the folk to know she was their queen yet? Would she want to be there and say it instead of rumours festering as they always did?
Come back
That made me sound desperate. And I wasn’t desperate, not yet.
You are perhaps only being overcautious, but I am writing to inform you that all is settled between the Undersea and Elfhame. The treaties are signed in sea foam and blood.
Expectantly,
Cardan
I looked at it. Yes, it was straight to the point, much like she always was.
I grabbed an envelope and blew the dust off of it. Maybe I should do more work every now and then.
I wrote her name on the front of it and handed it to one of the guards outside my room.
“See to it that this is taken to a messenger.”
“Yes your majesty.” He replied and left.
All I could do was hope it made it to her, and she would want to come back.

The Evermore Grimoire: Princesses
Ariel is an independent, headstrong, and determined mermaid as well the seventh and youngest daughter of King Triton and Queen Athena, rulers of the undersea kingdom of Atlantica. She spends most of her time outside the palace walls singing, daydreaming, and adventuring with her best friend, Flounder the guppy fish, and sometimes Sebastian the crab, who is also the royal adviser to Ariel's father. At the age of 16, Ariel unexpectedly becomes deeply infatuated with a young and handsome human prince named Eric and sacrifices all things dear to her for the chance of being with her one true love.

Who was the first girl Robin, Dick Grayson, ever loved?
In Batman #19 (1943), it was a Princess of Atlantis, who Batman found when he discovered Atlantis beneath a dome (rather like in Undersea Kingdom and the works of Phillip Wylie, author of Gladiator and When Worlds Collide and the best selling scifi author of his time). Robin resembled her brother, the Prince of Atlantis, and pretended to be him in a ruse to defeat the Nazis, who had temporarily seized control of Atlantis through deceit.
I wonder if Robin, in years to come, ever got wistful about the Atlantean Princess...or, if he never thought about her at all again.
Over DC's existence, there were seven (!) mutually contradictory versions of Atlantis.
Tumblr media
When Batman's World War II era adventures were continued on Earth-2, Robin grew up to be visibly larger than his mentor in physique and stature, and was appointed his replacement (though he never assumed the Batman name). In a backup strip in Batman Family, he also became an an attorney, and mentored Batman's daughter in the same way Batman mentored him.
