Ozai’s actually trying to keep a sick Zuko safe by locking him up like a Princess (ATLA Prompt Request)

my take on a locked up zuko fic

zuko has had weak health for a long time so he was finally confined to his (very spacious) rooms. (something like pneumonia or asthma). He’s very week, thin, lacks energy, cant firebend very well (you have to breath to do that) and is generally very pitiful (but beautiful). His servants love him and they do their best to make him comfortable and healthier but nothing they do really seems to work. Zuko know smokes medicinal herbs from a pipe to help him a bit though.

Then after the Gaang wins the battle their people rounds everyone up from the castle. they weren't very nice to zuko and he is basically dragged from his bed to were they are having everyone meet up. (his loyal servants are throwing obscenities to the jerks that are mishandling their very obviously sick prince). when the jerks finally get to where they are having everyone meet they basically through the prince to the ground. with all the stress and to much exercise Zuko starts not being able to breath (or something health related) and his servant circle him to try and help him

now I’m thinking that:

we could have waterbending help zuko heal from his illness (or maybe a water bender might know how to cure him)

Aang could panic at first and then help Zuko breath

Zuko be really pretty and regal looking. he has nice long hair and silky multi-layer robes (like traditional Chinese ones)

what would be awesome is if Ozai really actually cared about Zuko!! (and not in the horrifying way he does with Azula) like he had Zuko confined to his rooms so that he wouldn't get sicker and he is always going to visit him. because Azula is his prized battle winning heir but Zuko is Ozai’s pretty precious princess!!!!(I don’t know how/why I thought of this but it just makes me want to laugh cause it sounds so awesome and out of character)

I want to clear up a mistake people make with Azula and Ursa.

Ursa didn’t play favorites.

Ursa didn’t think Azula was a monster.

Ursa simply, unequivocally, just didn’t enable Azula’s worst traits like Ozai did.

Ozai’s favorite child was Azula, but Ursa still loved her more.

Because enabling isn’t love.

What did Ozai’s enabling do? It made Azula into the type of person to never have any loyal friends. It made the type of person that Mai and Tai Lee would betray at the risk of their own lives.

Ursa pushed Azula to be with her friends. To be with Zuko. Ozai pushed Ursa away, and both kids suffered for it. Azula became a sadist, enjoying seeing her brother get burned—while Zuko was pushed away because he cared for his people.

Azula thought her mom hated her because her mom was the only one who cared enough to tell her no.

overlooking all the other reasons why the show went downhill: katara’s feminine rage missing, aang getting guilt punched every episode, bumi being ooc, almost zero gaang bonding episodes, three episodes compiled into one (done twice), azula being introduced too early + given too much screen time, the cave of two lovers being in s1 when it was a s2 episode— all of that is valid but the show can really be pointed out in two ways where they went downhill:

aang never waterbended once during a season where it is literally called book one: water.

yue’s wig.
