Anne: And of course, Gilbert was there, looking at everyone with his ridiculous hazel eyes—
Priscilla Grant: Why is she talking about Gilbert?
Phil Gordon: I don’t know. I asked her about the weather and somehow we ended up here.

Anne of the Island (Anne of Green Gables #3)
Last time I looked through Anne of Green Gables (and general LM Montgomery) content here, I noticed a few people saying how they loved Philippa Gordon (ofc!) and that it’s an injustice we never got to see her on screen as she’s never been adapted. Then I binged on Golden Girls and I was struck by an idea--what if there was an adaptation that would focus on Anne’s years at Redmond? Picture this: Kingsport, 18whenever-it’s-supposed-to-be, four college girls rent out Patty’s Place, with Aunt Jamesina as the housekeeper, and three cats (the cats HAVE to be included!). We watch them as they navigate their studies, social lives, money struggles, and learn the value of friendship and love.
I don’t know if you can have a period sitcom (is there such a thing?). I vaguely remember seeing a post here a while ago where the OP pointed out that AOGG is very slice-of-life and it would lend itself well to this format, but if not it can just be a comedy/drama. Can you imagine it though, there is so much potential! Priscilla and Stella’s character would need to be more fleshed out, obviously. As there isn’t that much in the book to fill the whole series, stories could be taken from Anne of Avonlea and Windy Poplars and changed to fit the Redmond life. Or even take things from other LMM books, some of the short stories feature female college students living together (there is one nice Christmas story where 4 girls decide to give presents to a lonely middle aged woman in the same boarding house) and female friendships are definitely one of LMM’s strong points. Social issues could be worked in too, like e.g. it’s mentioned in the book that the street Patty’s Place is in is quite posh, so that already gives a lot of opportunities for storylines. I can see Anne tutoring the rich folk’s kids to earn some money, in fact I think the girls should have part time jobs, or occasional jobs at least. And, you know, romances and all that. Oh and the Friday nights where they invite their classmates and discuss the meaning of life!
So idk... what does everyone think?
