WAIT YOU AREN'T AMERICAN???
Tumblr media
#Sorry akdbrvekkdbrjekbdke this is just. not the first time I receive an ask of this kind and I really can't figure what makes this idea–#come across and how to stop it akdmbrkskdbbeksbdbeksk#I am. very much not. Besides I feel like my English is super broke so I thought at least *that* would give it away!!!#people asks me stuff#It's just. There's a big modern cultural colonization by the usa of my and other European countries–#which... Eh... Doesn't make me... Well... Uh... Very fond of the usa to put it that way#And I KNOW it's unfair towards the people and I love all of my friends from the usa deeply and truly#But like. I totally get this is just a small thing but like... It's hard to explain.#But you need to understand the influence the usa has on Europe is BAD. And at least in my country it's utterly terrible.#And it's more of an extension of a deep capitalist structure than all usa's fault but like... My country is currently undergoing a–#privatization of healthcare and education following a blatantly american model which is BAD. There's like one (1) thing that our country–#has going on which is free healthcare and some of the current leaders want to change that just because for them if that's how it works in–#the usa then it must be good. It's bad. it's screwed up. Once every year someone brings up making of the country a federal state–#like what the fuuuuuck what is wrong with everyone. Not to mention all the media we consume comes directly from the usa and contributes–#spreading the idea the usa is on top of the world and all other countries are underdeveloped compared to them. You see why it's bad#But like. God this is an awful and faulted way to reduce an extremely complex subject I really can't dwell on because an entire thesis–#could be written on it. But there's a huge cultural colonization in Europe that makes people feel like there's no possible alternative to–#late stage american capitalism which is sooooooo so so so fucked up.#Because capitalism wins the moment people start believing no alternative is possible

seeing some usamerican election discourse in the tl but i don't want to interact directly with it so i will just say here as an outsider that you guys will never get anywhere near real progress before you get rid of that absolutely ridiculous two party system. i am saying this genuinely and not trying to take the piss or anything. most election systems around the world are broken but damn if the USA's isn't one of the worst. this maybe is common sense but i wanted to elaborate on why i think it is beyond repair and needs at the very least a reform or to be revolutionized
the basic premise of a state is that different sectors of society with differing or competing interests have a mediator (not necessarily a single person) and in modern societies usually the 'mediator' spot is disputed by different classes trying to elect their respective representatives, and we find this nice because we think it's nice to have the ability to be represented by someone in a position of power (the state is really centralized, articulated power). but that goes down the drain when the mechanics of the state itself make it so that certain parts of society cannot dispute for positions within the state, can't elect people who really represent them.
as it is what you have is a state that essentially is built so that only the elite can take part in it, and then there is a slight divide among that elite that they infight about and sell that fight as something everyone else should care about, while what people actually care about is not any of the things they propose. if the only two parties you can vote for want to continue going to war while the people want nothing to do with war and it is near impossible to elect someone from a different party or independent, how is that representative democracy? note that i am saying elect and not vote. the whole thing is built so that you can vote for anyone you want, but you cannot elect anyone you want - the ones who can possibly get elected and stay in office are predetermined because of how the system is built, and it has been shaped over the years so that the group of people who already in power can continue there, essentially alienating itself from society, and those who were there when this alienation begun (maybe it even begun from day one, maybe sometime later) were people with some kind of power already (that's what made it easy for them to get there in the first place)
i think this segment of david harvey's (bear with me i know not everyone likes him) "the marxian theory of the state" puts it best:
Tumblr media
(his sources are all in full in the linked file, it's free to access)
the state is a machine, a huge, well articulated, valuable instrument capable of making life better or of destroying it. maybe it was built with good intention, so that people could elect the ones who control the machine, but over the years, the people who got inside installed mechanisms inside the control room so that it is literally gatekept, locked with a heavy mechanical steel door which only opens from the inside, and since that was done, no one has been able to make burst through yet.
the way i see it, there are only three ways to get the machine to stop killing and be used for good: 1. destroy the machine and build it anew (difficult, and you will lose almost all it currently offers); 2. use brute force and burst through the door (you need absurd amounts of force to do that) 3. find a way to disable the mechanism holding the door closed and get fucking rid of it (essentially, hijacking, which requires a very good plan- and someone who manages to access it)
anyways thanks if you read this all the way. i know it's kinda weird for me as a brazilian to be talking about this but as a geography major and the nosiest person alive i have a lot of Thoughts and my friends are tired of me rambling already

may i ask why you want to move to japan specifically? wouldn't you be able to find a place to live in america?
tbh the differences in quality of life between countries are so stark that i can give 1 reason at a time and you'd understand why any of them individually would make me want to move.
here's 1 reason: insurance.
in the united states, i pay $450 a month for private health insurance. with that health insurance, i have a yearly deductible, which means that on top of the $5k+ a year I have to pay monthly just to HAVE the insurance, I also have several thousand in medical bills that I've got to pay out of pocket before my insurance begins covering things proper. and after i spend almost $10,000 to actually have my insurance start kicking in (which i have to meet every year, meaning in January I have to start paying the 10k all over again), i also have to pay coinsurance (the percentage of my healthcare that my insurance DOESNT cover), which is a different percentage and base rate based on what specific healthcare service I'm getting. even then, healthcare in the USA is significantly more expensive on a foundational level without insurance than most other countries.
in japan, the amount I could have been paying monthly for the government subsidized National Health Insurance was $5 because I was a student, but I didnt know how to apply for that so I paid the general price of $70 monthly. after that, starting immediately after you begin payment, the national health insurance covers 70%-90% of healthcare costs depending on tax bracket (higher coverage for those earning less). Japanese insurance ALSO has a deductible, which resets monthly instead of yearly, starting at around $150. if the amount that you pay out of pocket exceeds your monthly deductible and you still need healthcare services, you can apply for a reimbursement on all medical expenses for the rest of the month.
that is 1 reason i want to move away from the united states and back to japan.

Hey !! How are you ? Did anyone give you donations, could you afford your meds. I am really worried about you
Hello yes! I've gotten donations! Really its an outpour of help and im so grateful, ive been going through a rough time (not adhd related) and one adhd related the past few days sorry I've been quite! Ill make a comic on it, i really want too. but basically i just moved to ontario, but my adhd diagnosis is in manitoba. Ontario's Premiere (USA TRANSLATION: Governor) Doug Ford has stripped healthcare funding in order to push his agenda of privatized paid medical care like america. without proper funding, doctors leave for greener pastures. so stuff like ER wait times? 14 hours. Family doctors? Ive seen wait lists up to a year. He does this cause then he can point to the medical care and go, see how government healthcare doesnt work? We need to privatize it. So the only choice I have is using a walk in clinic. Where I literally see someone for abotu 10 minutes. Just enough for a specialist referral or med refill. But, Walk in clinics wont perscribe me adhd meds, only a family doctor can. And like I said, Wait times. And I wont even know if they are trans friendly and safe or if they will refuse my medication. Speaking with my pharmacist they told me about a site called Tia health. They ONLY perscribe adhd meds if they are the one who diagnosed you. And a diagnosis is 700$. But as of right now it might be my only option. I've gotten so much help, I'm almost there and able to afford that. And Im so so so grateful for everybodies help literally been crying about it. it shouldn't fuckin be this way, what that man is doing should be illegal. That shouldnt be a political tactic I hate it. Right now im rationing my last 4 pills, taking them only when I need to get work done. I'll prolly be quite for a bit longer since i dont want to allow myself anything that could become a hyperfocus loop without medication I have to work.

Jar Spell: Spirit's Freedom
Tumblr media
Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron is a 2002 animated movie about a young mustang stallion in 19th century western America. After growing up as a wild horse, he is captured by white soldiers of the United States Cavalry and “broken” to bear a saddle and rider before making his escape with a Lakota youth named Little Creek. He bears witness to the abuse that horses suffer as a great railroad is being built, and finally runs free again with his herd after falling in love with a mare named Rain. This jar spell channels Spirit’s yearning for freedom from oppression, abuse, and confinement, and is ideal for anyone seeking emotional help with breaking free from an abusive home, job, or relationship. (Please see the “Notes” section at the end for mundane resources related to escaping abusive situations).
You will absolutely need:
a small vessel with a lid (a pill bottle or spice shaker works just fine)
sealing wax (ideally blue or white) or liquid glue
Once you have your vessel, add some ingredients related to wild horses running free and/or your conception of what freedom means. Some suggested ingredients that you may or may not include depending on your preferences are:
a clipping of hair from a horse’s mane or tail
a feather from a wild bird (for flight and freedom)
1-3 horse-themed bracelet charms but NOT horseshoe charms (horseshoes symbolize being tamed)
sea salt (for the wildness of the ocean)
dried flower heads from flowering weeds (for defiance)
peppercorns and/or ground black/red pepper (for defiance)
Directions:
Cleanse your vessel if it is repurposed or you feel a need to cleanse it, then add your ingredients but do not seal it just yet. In a quiet, private place and with your filled vessel nearby, ponder the nature of your confinement and the liberation you hope to achieve. Ruminate on the steps you will need to take in order to gain your freedom—this could be searching for a new job, locating a place of sanctuary in which to take refuge, reaching out to a friend or loved one for assistance, and much more. Use this time to emotionally fortify yourself.
When you are ready, use the wax or liquid glue to seal the vessel. This seals your intention of escape and liberation from whatever circumstances confine you. If you keep faith to a spirit or deity you wish to call upon for assistance in your endeavor, you may do so at this point. Keep your sealed vessel in a safe place until you have made your escape.
When you have taken flight and made your escape, break the seal and scatter the organic ingredients in a wild, free place. If using inorganic ingredients such as metal or plastic bracelet charms, it is ideal to thank, cleanse, and save the charms for another use.
Notes:
Magic can be a useful tool, but it doesn’t work all on its own. If you make no effort to get yourself out of a quagmire, then of course this spell (and any other) is going to fail. That said, you are not alone in your struggles. Please feel free to use any of the resources below that are applicable to your circumstances.
The United States’ national domestic violence hotline is 800-799-7233. You can also connect to help via SMS by messaging the word START to 88788. Their website is here.
In all 50 states of the USA, as well as in Washington DC and Puerto Rico, you can dial 211 to be connected to a social worker. Please note that calling 211 doesn’t need to be used solely for discussing the escape of an abusive situation; you can also dial this number for general healthcare and mental health resources that are local to your area. You can learn more here.
The United Kingdom’s national domestic violence hotline is 0808-2000-247. There is also an online chat that can be accessed here.

I fucking hate the USA. So much.
My mother sent in paperwork weeks ago to the insurance company, stating that they had agreed to keep her covered while she was recovering and laid up from work.
Yesterday, our insurance company suddenly said they never received the paperwork that was faxed directly to them despite the fact that I had witnessed it being done so, and that the insurance was cancelled indefinitely.
Today, my tooth broke horribly and is super sharp and painful, it's scraping my cheek inside until I can't even talk without feeling pain, and I have a bad taste in my mouth from it. I am mid lupus flare, and my migraines are returning as a result. And the most agonizing thing of all is I have suddenly developed a fissure in my lower body and I am in such horrible agony that I cannot use the bathroom without screaming and crying.
And I can get help with none of this. All because the fucking insurance company probably threw aside the faxed documents and ignored them completely, and they're just sitting there in a pile or on a computer and will never be seen.
I am suffering. I am in severe pain in multiple places and it is actually making my life unliveable. I cannot do basic functions (use the bathroom, walk, eat). And there's not a damn thing I can do for this until the insurance company agrees to sign us back on, and there is legit no telling how long it'll be. Last time this happened, it was a full month we had to go without insurance. And apparently that's a short time.
Doctors will not and cannot see me because I am not covered by insurance, and therefore I am not permitted by their practices to be treated since having no insurance is a liability issue. If I managed to find a private practice primary care doctor, and oral surgeon, and rheumatologist, which is basically impossible on all accounts, my family would be shelling out literally hundreds of dollars for just one visit to each one where I'd have to go for even more expensive testing that would be tens of thousands of dollars, and none of it would even including the far more expensive meds that would be thousands of dollars each and I'd need at least 6 prescriptions covered. And my mom currently has to pay off the insane hospital bills and surgery bills and helicopter medivac ride bills, the last of which isn't even covered by insurance despite the fact that it was necessary for her life to be saved. So there is no money for uninsured doctor visits.
American healthcare is a Godsforsaken scam that fucking kills people. I'm not even making that up. Doctors here admit insurance companies exist to scam you out of your money. And it's illegal to not have health insurance. And having no health insurance means no care which means death. If you do have health insurance then it means you're denied care and coverage and limited on where you can go for any appointments and what steps you must take to get an appointment, the steps of which each require increasing copays just to be told you have to find another type of doctor, and pay them a copay for them to say the same thing, and it keeps going until the issue is so bad you wind up in the hospital. If you don't know what you're doing when finding doctors and filling out paperwork and signing documents for things regarding health and treatment, you're scammed out of literally hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Insurance companies are bullshit. They will profit off you, then refuse to benefit you in any way, and then take away all medical resources for stupid reasons without notice, literally leaving you to suffer and die without care.
Fuck the USA.

Exploring Nursing Opportunities Abroad: Top Countries for Indian Nurses
Nursing is one of the most in-demand jobs inside and outside India. A profession that is in most demand in GCC countries for Indians is the nursing job. For Indian nurses, who are looking to broaden their horizons, many countries are waiting with promising career opportunities. If you are a skilled nurse and have multilingual capabilities then wide opportunities will be there. The overseas opportunities will give you high pay as well as a high-standard working environment. The respect for nurses outside India is much higher than inside India. Nurses are being recruited through top nursing consultancy in Kerala and here is a list of the top countries that offer promising careers.
Five top countries that offer promising nursing career
United Arab Emirates: Dubai which is an opulent city right due to cultural and development richness hires nurses from India. A large part of nurses who work in Dubai are Indian and they a decent pay but not much higher than European and American countries. But the most attractive feature of Dubai is that the nurses can take their entire income to their homeland since there are no taxes. In Dubai, there are many world-class hospitals, medical centers, and clinics that offer good employment prospects for Indian and other nationalities.
Saudi Arabia: In Saudi Arabia, there are a plethora of job opportunities for nurses in both the private and Government sectors. They offer good pay, accommodation facilities and also travel allowances. Saudi Arabia is one of the largest nations in GCC countries and also the pilgrimage place for Muslims, the demand for medical facilities is very high. The demand for trained professionals especially from India is of high demand in Saudi. However, finding the right opportunity is a bit challenging since there is a high scam in the field of recruitment.
Canada: Canada is a country that offers a healthcare system with the highest standard. This country is facing staff shortages and is now actively recruiting nurses worldwide. The high-quality life and the welcoming stances towards immigrants make Canada an excellent choice for nurses. The medical facilities and education are completely free for immigrants.
Australia: Australia's flourishing healthcare industry and stunning landscapes attract nurses worldwide. With modern facilities and advanced technology, nurses can work efficiently. During leisure time, they can explore the country's picturesque natural environment. Competitive salaries and excellent benefits make it a lucrative career option. To work as a nurse in Australia, one must register with the AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency) and pass English language proficiency tests.
United States of America (USA): The USA boasts a robust healthcare system with a significant demand for skilled nurses across various specialties. Indian nurses aspiring to work in the USA can pursue opportunities through programs like the H-1B visa for skilled workers or the EB-3 visa for professionals with tertiary education. Opportunities exist in hospitals, clinics, long-term care facilities, and community health settings throughout the country.
United Kingdom (UK): With its National Health Service (NHS), the UK offers extensive opportunities for Indian nurses to work in both public and private healthcare sectors. The UK's Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) oversees the registration process for international nurses, which includes passing the Occupational English Test (OET) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) and meeting other requirements. Work settings range from hospitals and nursing homes to community healthcare centers.
Conclusion
If you are planning for an overseas nursing job, first research the rules and regulations for immigrants. Based on it decide which country is most suitable for you. There will be medical tests, mandatory examinations, and other verifications for each country. It is better to connect with any nursing consultancy in Kerala before you plan to move, they will guide you through the process and also provide you with data regarding the recruitment.

TW: hospital, surgery, healthcare
In the last 3 years, I have had 4 surgeries, the last one just yesterday. It was an easy one, thankfully, still, I should have paid 2200€ if in Italy the medical care wasn’t free. I have a job and my husband does too, but if we had to pay this amount it wouldn’t have been easy (as everyone in the world we have to pay for bills, food, and our house too). It’s easy to guess that I have been in and out of hospitals more times than I’d like to admit, and every single time I met someone complaining about our healthcare. Italian healthcare is far from perfect, the waiting lists are long and some places have more access to resources than others. And yet... Every time I met someone who proclaimed that we should do “like the USA and having private insurance” I really wanted to grab them from their collar and shake them, because it's SO STUPID. It’s clear that whoever says things like these has never had a serious medical condition, and I’m glad they didn’t, but I’m sure that if something ever happened to them or the people they care about their minds would change in a heartbeat. So yes, in Italy we pay a lot of taxes, but healthcare is almost free. Do not forget it.

Listening to American talk about the health system for me is so weird because I'm Brazilian here we have SUS (sistema único de saúde/unique system of healthcare). It's basically free, our taxes are invested in it and for example, if you're diabetic, you can get insulin in it! You can do surgeries without it costing you your life, it does have it's low points like taking too long in the line or the lack of doctors but it's better than having a 30 year old debit because you gave birth, I've seen a lot of Brazilians that went to tourist the USA and when they got injured, they went back to brazil because the hospitals in the usa are expensive. If I'm not mistaken, the SUS is the best free-healthcare system that exists! 😸 Yay
yeah yeah, I think Canada’s and Quebec’s (RAMQ*) healthcare insurance work the same way? It “would” explain our 15% tax on everything we pay (fucking 15% taxes, can you believe that??? It’s fucking insane).
Surgeries in Quebec are also covered by the insurance, I think Canadian insurance works the same way? Birthing, ER visits, annual check ups to the family doctor and other things are covered here —or so I think, I’m not super sure. we have private and public hospitals too. But like anywhere the cons about having “free” healthcare is that it sometimes takes forever to get a date when you’re put on the waiting list.
Oh and can you believe this?? I heard that you have to pay the hospital 80$ USD to hold YOUR baby after giving birth. You have to fucking pay to hold your own kid! How fucking insane is that???? And the average price for giving birth is around 18k USD…

Denise Crowe, 21 (USA February 3, 2006
Denise Crowe was already a mother of a 3-year-old boy and she was struggling to take care of herself and her son when she found out she was pregnant again. Scared and desperate, Denise had an abortion when she was 16 weeks pregnant.
What Denise needed was support for herself, her toddler and her baby, which a Crisis Pregnancy Center could have provided. If she did not feel that she could care for a second baby, adoption could have been arranged. Unfortunately, both Denise and her baby became victims of the predatory abortion industry.
The Gynecare Center abortion facility was designed look to the untrained eye like an outpatient clinic. A client making an appointment there would likely believe she was in a licensed clinic, not an office. (Their website, in fact, falsely advertised the facility as "a modern, clean clinic designed to provide quality healthcare for women and girls of all ages in the Maryland area," even though, as the medical board noted, the facility was only a private doctor's office and not licensed as a clinic.)
Denise and her baby died on February 3, 2006. After the abortion, Denise’s fingernail beds turned blue, but the abortion facility failed to give her adequate treatment. Her vital signs were not properly monitored and it was later discovered that she had been given a lethal overdose of Demerol.
The abortionist who killed Denise and her baby was also responsible for the deaths of born-alive babies Zachary and Paul, had mishandled the case of a teenager with an STD and was on supervised probation between 1992 and 1994 for knowingly sewing a metal surgical instrument into a patient. This is not someone who can be trusted with the lives of others.

Things that make you angry about medicine?
You really want to watch the world burn, huh. Alright.
Is it the fact that I live in a nation with privatized healthcare that spends more money per capita than any other country in the world but still can't deliver top quality care? There was a paper about where the USA stands against Australia, Canada, Germany, Netherlands, and the UK in multiple health care metrics - and manages to find itself last. (Netherlands happens to be first while spending half the money the USA spends.)
Or maybe it's the fact that life-saving medications are sold at such expensive prices despite having such low manufacturing costs? Yeah, I'm looking at you, insulin and insulin analogues. It takes around $2-3 to make a vial of insulin analog, yet these pharmaceutical companies are selling it for over $50 to $100 to even $300.
Or how about the anti-cancer drug Gleevec / Imatinib? A year of Imatinib costs $159 to make but is sold for over $100000 to patients. And this isn't tied to any sort of research and development or market forces. It's just simply greed. To everyone involved in that garbage, was your conscience eaten by dogs?
---
Let's talk about privatized health care / insurance - the sort that only exists to make a profit and are driving up health care costs. How? The hospital sends a bill to the the private insurance - the insurance decides which services it will reimburse for and sends the bill to both patient and hospital. Insurance tries to pay the hospital as little as possible as it exists only to make a profit, which means the hospital will get badly stiffed if it continues to play insurance's game and accepts their lowball - so the hospital counters by increasing the prices on everything to try and make insurance pay its fair share.
The result? A devastating bill that you, the patient, have to pay should you not have insurance because of this horrible back and forth between hospital and insurance companies.
Privatized health care might've been something good early on its creation where it provided stability to hospitals by providing it a more regular income flow. But it's a rotten institution now. And that's because the insurance companies don't care about patients, just profit. At least with socialized health care, the government has to at least pretend to care for the people as people are both voters and a country's resource. But you'll never get socialized healthcare here because private insurance is so entrenched now that they will lobby any attempt to get socialized healthcare to death.
