So my mom thinks people are more rude than they were "back then," and I looked it up and it seems the conversation just revolves around older white people (any surprise there?). So I think the issue is that people are subjected to more information every day than they were in say the 60s and 70s and so on. Because of this, if they don't curate their online experience they are going to see more rudeness (plus there's a whole thing I did a project on with more people being rude online than in real life due to psychological changes with using the internet such as dissociation). Also, do boomers actually know how to curate their online experience? No, not really. I see a lot of shit too about "people were taught how to act and what to say back then." Oh, you mean like calling black people the n-word and things like that? I think they also think people are rude just because they didn't see as many people fighting for their rights and to have the right to take up space. It's also been noted that older generations have been saying this for centuries, according to historians. I genuinely do not see this rudeness problem and am polite to others and tend to run into a lot of nice people. I am wondering if part of the problem is that the boomers in question are rude first, so that's what they'll receive back. I noticed if you're nice people tend to be nice to you, and might even do something extra like help you out even if you just met in passing. I'm just pissed that my mom keeps bringing up this problem, and has this idea that everyone else sucks. She has also called today's world a "culture shock." *eye roll*

I saw this on FB today and I wanna try and express something about it. Like, you know the curbcutter effect? Where when curbcuts are put in it benefits everyone (bicyclists, people with baby strollers etc) and not just disabled people?
There is also whatever the opposite of the curbcutter effect is. And this is that.
This isn't just anti-adhd/autism propaganda... this is anti-child propaganda.
Kids have developmentally appropriate ways that they need to move their bodies and express themselves and sitting perfectly still staring straight ahead is not natural or good for ANY CHILD.
Don't get me wrong, I was punished unduly as a kid for being neurodivergent (and other types of kid will ALSO be punished unduly for it... Black kids come to mind) and thus UNABLE to perform this -- but even the kids who ARE able to perform this type of behavior are not SERVED WELL by it. They don't benefit from it.
This is bad for everyone.
The idea that bc some kids may be capable of complying with unfair expectations, those expectations don't hurt them... is a dangerous idea. Compliance isn't thriving. Expectation of compliance isn't fair treatment.

there is something so horrible about destroying churches, or any place of worship. im not even religious. it’s about the fact that people were so devoted, put so much effort into building and decorating and just experiencing this part of their life, that they hold so important. and all that effort is taken away by a fucking bomb
I find religion beautiful, and it’s harrowing to see these things happening in PaIestine and no one cares. suddenly now no one cares about religion or the importance of religious monuments

anyway in the past week the irish government has voted down two motions which would have condemned the genocide in gaza.
i need everyone to stop lionising ireland as if its not also a european government with strong ties to the us. american weapons pass through shannon airport and will continue to, because yesterday the motion to stop that was voted down 83 to 50.
other governments have done much more but somehow people still act as though ireland is the ultimate palestinian ally and exempt from criticism on its handling of palestine bc it was once colonised, even though that past experience clearly isnt being taken into account by the irish government when creating policy.
i live here i know there’s a lot of public support and sympathy for palestine, which is great, but that isnt reflected in government, and i think ireland should be treated like other countries whose governments have done nothing.

while i get where this comes from and it’s true to an extent, i reeeaaaally don’t like how people try to explain “trans men don’t [necessarily] have male privilege” with things like “some trans men don’t pass”.
like sure that’s the most obvious example (someone who is seen as a woman won’t have the privilege that comes with being seen a man) but you’re still acting like being a passing trans man is just a free opt-in to male privilege which is………kinda the issue.

I know some dickheads have now decided that Judaism is the "bad, violent, terrorist religion" and Islam is the "good, peaceful" one, which is only to be expected of white people, but how much of an issue is it currently? Like I've seen some USAmericans sharing how the Islamic faith shapes Gazans values and perseverance (good) except with that distinct white hippie "I'm about to imprint on this like the world's most racist duck" vibe (bad), but I didn't think they're already turning on Judaism in numbers.
Do they realize that Christianity is also the same kind of comfort to Christian minorities in Asia and Africa? That it was Buddhists that genocided the Rohingyas in Myanmar and Tamils in Sri Lanka? That Hindu fundamentalists are even now trying to ethnically cleanse Muslims in India? How Hindus and Christians are terrorized and persecuted in Pakistan? That Muslims have a history of persecuting and ethnically cleansing Jews too?
Really tired of asking y'all to be normal about people's religions man. There's no religion that's inherently violent or exceptionally peaceful. It's just like any other ideology that becomes a weapon in the hands of ethnic power. Interrogate power, not religion, and respect people's belief systems insofar as they aren't in your business.
Edit: I've amended the "long history" of Muslim persecution of Jews because it might be misleading in the current political climate. Zionism and antisemitic Arab nationalism are twin births resulting directly from Christian colonization, and Islamic empires tended to actually be more tolerant of other religions compared to Christianity, especially Judaism, which was considered a sibling religion. Antisemitism wasn't ideologically entrenched in Islamic tradition. It's simply that ethno-religious power will lead to ethno religious domination and intermittent cleansing of minorities, and Islam is no exception. Humans be humaning always.

You're not uniquely talented or hard working you just went to the right schools.
Yes, yes! This is exactly why I started Philosophy Tube! Why shouldn't someone else, anyone else, have access to the education I got??? The intellectual and cultural heritage of our species is for everyone, not just privileged people like me! :)

about to inform romani people that the romani holocaust was a "side quest"
edit: also when nazis and other reactionaries say that a group they hate is connected to The Jews, that is almost always a post hoc justification for a hatred that already existed. eg nazis hated communists bc they threatened their ideal of a class collaborationist state, not bc of some mythical jewish connection

The more I’m hearing about the situation in Gaza, the more disgusted and disturbed I am by the sheer, shameless inhumanity Israel displays daily.
Some few out of many, many, many, many exemples of what Israel did so far:
Dumped gallons of salt over water supplies so Palestinian people cannot safely drink from it
Israeli soldiers filmed themselves torturing a disabled man, stealing belongings of deceased and captive Palestinians, mocking and sexually assaulting Palestinian women, and many more
Bombed an entire hospital full of babies. Babies.
Murdered Hadiya Nassar, a Palestinian woman older than their joke of a state, by sniping her off a roof, simply because she stated a fact.
Threw a woman off a 5 story building just because
Kept the dead bodies of Palestinian prisoners on ice so they could serve their full sentences. Even AFTER they died. Some remains kept for up to 40 years. So they wouldn’t return these people to their families
Produced “Dead Palestinian Baby” dolls as a children’s toy. The toy comes with small bags for “limbs”
We must keep in mind that while genocide is entirely a product of politics, and a form of systematic oppression, we are truly witnesses to hatred. THIS is what hatred is, and this is what it does. When someone asks you how hatred looks like, tell them it looks like Israel.
