Sometimes it's surprising to me that after the Azriel bonus chapter, people still think Elain and Azriel are endgame (it's ok to ship them though, I ship Azriel with Eris sometimes💀), but why force it on others? Why attack artist just because they choose to draw a ship you don't agree with (when they've already done yours several times)? Why hurt/insult others in the process? Go on AO3 and fantasize all you want (that's the point of the site after all, to quench your thirst - I mean... that's what I do🤕).
*I* was an Elriel (maybe not a strong one, I'm very open minded) before, but after reading that chapter I just gave up lmao (I sulked a bit while starring at gorgeous fanarts with them, wiped my tears and moved on). And I do understand how it feels to get very attached to a ship, I still think of Harry and Hermione for God's sake. Or Draco... 😶‍🌫️
Not only that his inner monologue gave me the ick, then his arrogance and entitlement when speaking with Rhys, but his gift compared to Lucien's was just... lame (and I really like Azriel, even if the way he behaved there dissapointed me).
And if it wasn't enough, after that dramatic *in a raspy male voice* "Oh babycakes, it was a mistake!" and Elain giving him back the necklace like a lost battle, out of absolutely nowhere Gwyn's character shows up! In the same chapter! It has to mean something, right? Not only that, but it's obvious she makes him curios, her character challanges his (I won't even mention his shadows making heart-eyes at her).

The Rose foreshadowing from that "God Forsaken Bonus Chapter"
That is how some e/riels refer to the BC. It's like they know it is the end of their ship, the nail in the coffin. There is quite a bit of Foreshadowing in the SF Feysand's BC that has pretty significant Elucien hints.
A lot of e/riels say that Lucien's gift of the enchanted gardening gloves was a thoughtless gift. Elain likes getting her hands dirty, so clearly the gloves were belittling her.
Except they weren't. Gloves serve a purpose, they serve to protect you so you don't get cut up by thorns and hurt. Gifting someone safety equipment for their hobby/craft is not careless or insulting. It's saying "I want you to be safe doing the thing you love." It's actually rather thoughtful and sweet.
But, there's something more to those gloves and how they're tied to Lucien, and the symbolism of the thorns from roses. Let's dig in.
“Don't forget that gardening often results in something pretty, but it involves getting one's hands dirty along the way."  “And torn up by thorns," I mused, recalling a morning this past summer when Elain had come into the house, her right palm bleeding from several gashes thanks to a stubborn rosebush that had pierced her gloves. The thorns had broken off in her skin, leaving sharp splinters that I’d had to pull free. I didn’t dare mention that if she had been wearing the enchanted gloves Lucien had gotten her last Solstice, nothing would have pierced them at all.
Elain is stubborn. She's been stubborn about the whole mating bond, avoiding Lucien, avoiding his gifts. She's reluctant to give into the bond and her mate, and it's understandable. She's been through a lot, and she might be blaming him for her rejection from Greysen.
Another interesting thing of not here is, what did Azriel gift to Elain for Solstice?
A rose Necklace.
In this moment, Elain was interested in Azriel. He knew that what they were doing was wrong. Elain went with it too though, asking for him to put it on her, sharing charged looks, sharing an almost kiss...
and then, he called it a mistake.
Rhys vanished, and Azriel was left standing before Elain, who still awaited his kiss. His stomach twisted as he pulled his hand from her hair  and stepped back. Forced himself to say, "This was a mistake.” She opened her eyes, hurt and confusion warring there before she whispered, "I’m sorry."
Again, the rose imagery. The stubborn rose whose thorns pierced her, caused her hurt and pain.
This is why I think Feyre's previous statement, saying had she been wearing the enchanted gloves Lucien had gotten her, nothing would have pierced them at all.
It has the same feeling of, "Had she not been stubborn and went with her mate, she wouldn't have been hurt by Azriel." The gloves are more than just to protect her hands while gardening, they are a symbol of Lucien, protecting her heart, protecting her. And with him, nothing would pierce her at all.

This one will be a rant.
The way both the pro and anti sides of ACOTAR treat Elain is ridiculous.
Fun fact: ACOTAR is a romantasy series. See the word ROMANCE in there??? It means people are going to get paired up. If that’s not something you like, read a different genre. Don’t complain about finding steak in a steakhouse.
Secondly: it’s fun to have headcanons, but I’ve ONLY ever seen people talk about Elain this way; they want her to be stupid, or a villain, or a spy or a warrior, or single. WHY???? A woman can’t be feminine, intelligent, and empowered in a relationship???? Lucien would help Elain grow, learn more about her powers and Prythian. Together, they would be stronger as rulers. How is that not empowered????
And what about the treatment of LUCIEN??? Why does everyone want the best guy in ACOTAR to face extreme heartbreak with a rejected bond so badly? Because uwu bad boy supremacy??? Just bc Lucien isn’t a creep? Y’all need to be fr rn.

So, I’m supposed to accept that Lucien’s mate is going to reject the bond for some batboy who couldn’t take a hint that the object of his 500-year-desire wants nothing to do with him, while subsequently punishing her newfound boldness by calling her actions a mistake, and underestimating her even when she stabbed the King of Hybern with the same weapon he gave her?
When her actual mate couldn't breathe when he had a good look at her face, when her actual mate shuddered when she said his name for the first time, when her actual mate, despite knowing that she does not want him, still demanded to a High Lady that Elain be brought outside for sunshine, when her actual mate heard her from a floor below and still offered any assistance he can to get her better, when her actual mate volunteered to fulfill her vision without any prompting and came back immediately to her, covered in blood, to see if she was alright.
And most importantly, when it was suggested that he force himself to spend time with her, he said no.

Art based on SJM’s Pinterest board before she deleted it in 2021, which means Elucien’s been endgame for years.
The author decides, and it’s been decided. How we can argue against it, I don’t know.

There is not a single Elucien that thinks Elain is secretly in love with Lucien.
You know why.
Because their book is going to tell us the story of how they fall in love. ON THE PAGE.
I’m tired of seeing E/riels accusing us of thinking this. Sorry your ship supposedly fell in love off page and there is no story left to tell.

FREE ELAIN!!
I will never shut up about this
"Elain in black was ridiculous. Yes, she was beautiful, but the color of her long-sleeved, modest gown leeched the brightness from her face. It wore her, rather than the other way around. And he knew the cruelty of the Hewn City troubled her. But she hadn't hesitated to come. When Feyre had offered to let her remain home, Elain had squared her shoulders and declared that she was a part of this court - and would do whatever was needed. So Elain let her golden-brown hair down tonight, and pinned it back with twin combs of pearl. He'd never once in the two years he'd known her found Elain to be plain, but wearing black, no matter how much she claimed to be part of this court ... it sucked the life from her."
"Elain would love this place. So many flowers, all in bloom, so much green - the light, vibrant green of new grass - so many birds singing and such warm, buttery sunshine. Nesta felt like a storm cloud standing amid it all. But Elain ... The Spring Court had been made for someone like her. Too bad her sister refused to see her. Nesta would have told Elain to visit this place."
Argue with canon, bitches 'cause Elain is off to Spring💐

I think it's wild that Elain did not mention her fiancé's name to Feyre once Feyre found out about her wedding.

Nesta had to tell Feyre about him.
But Elain definitely made sure Graysen knew what her mates name was.

Found ANOTHER favorite e/riel moment. 🤭
I don’t know why I over looked the events in ACOFAS!! I mean it’s basically an e/riel novella and the e/riel bible right? How silly of me! 🤦🏻‍♀️🥴

I NEED the redheads in the series (Gwyn and Lucien) to get their happy endings with their mates.
Why? Because they are the least problematic, toxic characters and these two redheads deserve the world. Also, these two redheaded fictional characters get a lot of hate over a ship war and I've seen some pretty sickening takes just because they are redheads.
Plus, it would be justice for those out there who look down upon redheads and call them names. Redheads deserve love and happiness to instead of the hate they receive.

Lucien's Gifts To Elain
Lucien gifts to Elain are soooo much more meaningful than a generic necklace.
He gifted her ENCHANTED GLOVES that would protect her hands while she gardens during the first Solstice. This was a very well thought out gift for his mate who loves to garden.
For the second Solstice, he gifted her PEARL EARRINGS. And you know what's said about pearls themselves?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If someone gives you a pearl, they probably care about you very much and want to express their love in a unique and timeless way.
In ancient Rome, pearls were seen as a symbol of purity, loyalty, and innocence.
Those pearl earrings were given to Elain by Lucien with longing etched on Lucien's face. He is loyal to her and only her and that gift shows he cares very much for Elain, even if she might not return the same sentiment right now.
With these gifts,, Lucien is trying to show Elain he cares for her, knows her, and would protect her from any harm. Even with the distance between them right now.
And I have a feeling Elain was uncomfortable with the pearl earrings gift, and around Lucien, because Lucien sees her and she is scared that someone who isn't close to her at the moment can see and care for her so clearly.

For E/riel to happen,
A lot of major changes to the story need to occur. E/riel theories are often convoluted and contradicting, but let's go over some of the things that need to happen, for these E/riel theories shall we?
Elain and Lucien's bond has to be 'wrong or corrupt' while everyone else's is perfectly fine.
Lucien and Azriel need to have a blood duel where Lucien dies.
The bond is fake and they'll both have a good laugh about it.
Elain will reject the bond, but will always still have her bond with Lucien. She'll just go with Azriel and he'll be totally ok with it.
BOTH Elain and Lucien will reject the bond, which...somehow it just what, goes away? They will both find love with someone who isn't their mate, Az/Vassa, but constantly feel the pull to eachother since the bond doesn't go away. Lucien will eventually be driven mad.
Lucien has to be a cheater. Being a mated male and his whole characteristic of being fiercely loyal? Out the window.
Jurien has to betray them or die, since Jassa is a contendor to Vassien. Jassa cannot happen so we must get rid of Jurien.
Gwyn has to be evil
Gwyn's a Lightsinger/luring Azriel, so him wanting to see her cannot be of his own volition or a draw to any mating bond, it's because he's under a spell.
Gwyn is going to betray Azriel
Gwyn and Elain are going to fight over Azriel, which Gwyn will reveal her evil ploy
Gwyn cannot exist past SF and will fade into obscurity
Someone is forcing Elain to be with Lucien, in which she and Azriel must sneak around with their forbidden desires before someone steps in and fights for their happiness.
Lucien just fades into obscurity or dies trying to protect Elain which she goes to Az anyway.
Elucien happens in the first book, but then Lucien turns into a sudden asshole and pushes Elain away where she realizes she loved Az all along? The second book is Elain and Azriel getting together...which would be all of 5 pages.
For Elucien to happen,
Elain and Lucien need to spend time together and get to know eachother.
For Gwynriel to happen,
Azriel and Gwyn spend time together.
Azriel stops focusing on his lack of a mate and listen to his shadows who are clearly telling him the woman he's looking for is right in front of him.
That's it.
For Elucien/Gwynriel to happen, all they have to do is spend more time together. We don't need anyone to lose their HEA, we don't need to kill off any characters, or make anyone suffer. Everyone gets a HEA, which in a romance novel that's about soulmates and love and healing and fantasy, that's what it's about. This isn't GoT/SOIAF where people need to be scheming and die.
What sounds more likely? 2 books left focusing on 2 different ships like Eluciend and Gwynriel? Seeing 4 people get their HEA and possibly some blooming side ships like Jassa and Mor/Emire? Or, 2 books, one focusing on Elriel, where one of the many horrible and depressing options happen, with the second book being someone else entirely, or Vassien? Which again, would be breaking characters.
You tell me.

Every time someone says "Poor Azriel has never been chosen in his life, he deserves to be chosen by Elain!" I throw up a little bit in my mouth.
That BAT literally has a loving family in the Inner Circle. Lucien has been kicked out of two courts, is an outsider in another, is literally living with a group called THE BAND OF EXILES, had his lover murdered in front of his eyes, and his own mate is avoiding him. STOP TRYING TO UWUIFY AZRIEL OH MY FUCKING GOD!
