"France became the first country in the world to make abortion a constitutional right Monday [March 4, 2024], with French lawmakers adopting the bill in a 780-72 vote in a move inspired by the U.S. reversal of Roe vs. Wade.
The law gives women a "guaranteed freedom" to choose for themselves if an abortion is the right choice to make.
The amendment won the support of the three-fifths of the 925 National Assembly and Senate members required to pass in an extraordinary afternoon session at the Palace of Versailles just outside Paris in a move that was overwhelmingly supported by the public.
Prime Minister Gabriel Attal said to those assembled in Congress Hall that "we owe a moral debt" to the women who had to suffer through illegal abortions in the past.
After the vote to approve the constitutional change, Paris' Eiffel Tower was lit with the words in French "my body my choice" in the country where abortion was first legalized in 1975, two years after the United States' first ruling on Roe vs. Wade...
While limiting abortion ranked very low on France's political agenda, lawmakers were prompted to take action to protect abortion rights in 2022 following the U.S. Supreme Court's overturning of the 1973 Roe ruling that legalized abortion. Subsequently, several American states have passed laws to restrict or outlaw the procedure.
"I say to all women within our borders and beyond, that today, the era of a world of hope begins," said Attal, who at 34 became the country's youngest prime minister.
This was the first time since 2008 that France took steps to change its constitution. There will be a ceremony to finalize the amendment on Friday [March 8, 2024], which is also International Women's Day."

for the last time being pro-choice isn't about whether or not the fetus counts as a person, it's about whether or not the government should have the ability to make you act as a life support incubation unit for nine fucking months.

My friend just found out her fetus didn’t develop a heartbeat. She’s 10 weeks pregnant. Imagine being told “Sorry for your loss, but you’re gonna have to carry this dead child of yours until your body naturally decides to push it out, no matter how physically or emotionally traumatic that might be for you. Good luck!”

"South Carolina’s newly all-male Supreme Court reversed course on abortion Wednesday, upholding a law banning most such procedures except in the earliest weeks of pregnancy.
The continued erosion of legal abortion access across the U.S. South comes after Republican state lawmakers replaced the lone woman on the court, Justice Kaye Hearn, who reached the state’s mandatory retirement age.
The 4-1 ruling departs from the court’s own decision months earlier striking down a similar ban that the Republican-led Legislature passed in 2021. The latest ban takes effect immediately.

[@greenwire I didn't want to rb her post again, but this is in response to your reblog of it asking wtf was going on]
Yep I got this news after most of radblr too but have made several posts about it, most responding to her directly:
Why I'm being confrontational & why it isn't JUST about her anti-choice stance & "religious awakening" or whatever.
Recounting my illegal abortion & more-horrific-than-fiction surrounding events following my pregnancy at 14 from CSA at Catholic boarding school. This is the first time disclosing my abortion outside my wife and closest friends - and even then I only told them last year.
Refuting her claim that forced birth is different from forced parent-to-child blood or organ donation because abortion is an "action" and not donating blood or an organ is "inaction."
Response to her claiming that radfems using appearance-based insults & "kys" type shit toward her are "typical examples of pro-choice behavior" rather than, yk, standard internet shit

While Arizona Republicans pretend that they are really not anti-abortion extremists, the Republican-controlled Arizona legislature dissolved into chaos on Wednesday when an attempt was made to repeal the 1864 pre-statehood law banning almost all abortions in the state. Before the measure could be taken up, the House was gaveled into recess.
Arizona Democrats tried to repeal abortion ban, but Republicans blocked them
Republicans are trying to have it both ways: Restrict abortion as much as possible but make it appear to voters that they are "moderate" on the issue. What happened in the Arizona legislature on Wednesday reveals how MAGA Trump Republicans actually feel deep down inside.

self-defense is a human right
self-defense is a woman’s right
it doesn’t matter if men feel hurt or bad about it, it is our fucking right
it is our right as women to refuse unwanted pregnancies
it is our right as women to demand female-only spaces
it is our right as women to refuse sex with anyone at anytime whenever we like
anyone who doesn’t agree with these is a predator/rape apologist/sadist
and i have no tolerance for you

Ohio passed Issue 1 and abortion rights will be written into the state constitution. Today I breathe a little easier knowing I will maintain body autonomy and the right to access abortion care should I need it as we consider heading into another pregnancy. The fear of this issue failing and Ohio enacting an extreme 6 week abortion ban had me hesitant to want to try for baby #4 (actually baby #5, I suppose). I feel like now I can move forward with expanding my family without fear of having to risk my life doing so and that is a HUGE weight lifted. It's amazing how freeing it is to have the security of basic human rights.

Okay, for the "personally pro-life" crowd out there, I've got some news for you. Ready? Thanks, I promise I won't take much of your time.
There's no such thing. Being pro-life is to oppose legal abortion in general cases. These people seem to think that being pro-choice means that you would get an abortion, and so if you don't get one yourself, you're pro-life.
Nope, that's not how it works. Being pro-choice means you should have the "right" (there's no such right, either, but I digress) to do so; it doesn't mean you have to. So, yes, if you won't get one yourself but support the "right" for women to have one, you're pro-choice.
So don't waste your breath arguing about how you're personally-life. Yes, even if you support it "for the first trimester." That's still pro-choice.

Something I wish that more people understood abt hirsutism is how very thick and strong the roots of our hair is. All of the roots on my body hair are comparable to men’s, even when the hair looks thin above the skin, the root is absolutely atrocious and aggressive. So much of my body (arms, back, stomach, nipples, legs, bikini line etc etc) has scars and pigmentation that are years old because of scabbing and rashes and bleeding from removing the hair. Even shaving is painful because cutting the hair makes it so sharp the regrowth literally feels like it’s cutting my skin. I’ve had skin infections that required prescription meds just because of the extent of damage hair removal did to my skin.
And it’s just absurd to me that it’s so crucial to so much of society that women play into this weird charade that we naturally don’t have any body hair and must immediately remove the hair we grow, that they would rather we go through this than just.. not remove the hair.
