I genuinely don’t understand why people want that soc spin off or shadow and bone season three because the writers were just…racist as fuck?
they made Alina asian, promised they’d explore her shu heritage but instead they erased her personality from the books to insert 378392910 scenes from kaz’s childhood, it’s literally not Alina anymore and the way they reduced her to a just ‘girlboss’ because male writer thought it was feminist and progressive 🤡 they erased her strong feelings for the darkling, they erased her ability to make a cut, they erased her humor, they erased her powerful speeches from the books.
erasure of the inej’s trauma…she literally couldn’t normally touch people for almost two books and saying ‘ I want you without armor, Kaz’ after what (a month? because s2 is so fucking rushed) after s2 started. that’s a serious theme and getting rid of her feelings about what happened to her, the depth of her trauma and erasing it just for what…? to show kaz’s flashbacks again? or to make her girlboss because male author thinks it’s feminist?
erasure of jesper’s trauma, his struggle with being grisha, accepting it etc. it took him a very lot of time in the books just to confess that he’s grisha to the other members of crows. he was ashamed because of it and he thought that this is a curse (also this is a key that canonically novy zem wasn’t that friendly to grisha. if this statement is wrong, correct me cuz I don’t remember shit what happened in those books sawry). and then in the show jesper magically accepted who he is, threw his struggles away in two minutes and then brutally kvllvd grisha woman who also had huge struggles, trauma with being a grisha.
THIS SHOW HAD DONE THEM DIRTY, AINT NEVER FORGIVING THAT.
(the only good thing was Alina not losing power as a member of oppressed minority)

Hii girlie I was thinking about our shadow child a bit ago. And I remembered two separate scenes from two separate characters, but are very similar (the scenes). And yet they have very opposite responses. I’m talking about when Aleksander put shadows into Baghra’s eyes, and when Kaz pulled out a man’s eyeball. I made my own (very) little take on it but I love how you analyse scenes, and would like to hear your opinion why they're seen differently. Thanks byee
Hey, bestie!! Thank you for your kind words! 🥹💗
Ah yes... One of my most favorite type of tea to spill. Hypocrisy ☕
In order to see why they're seen as different we'll have to analyse the circumstances first.
The Darkling
Betrayed by his mother, a woman that is constantly seen as old and frail, who sent away the girl he both fell in love with and wanted her power to protect his country and people. So basically she committed treason (and she got away with it really lightly, if you ask me. Hell. If the King had found out, he would have her beheaded in the spot).
The punishment? He clouded her eyes with the black mist of the Fold. Some even theorize that she could take away that mist with her own powers but she didn't (my own opinion in this, is that she couldn't). It was a punishment that the Darkling could reverse at any time.
How did he feel about it?
Well... I'll let these passages talk for themselves:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He was hurt that he had to do this to his mother. He didn't take any pleasure from it.
Kaz
He was ambushed by Oomen, a man that is portrayed as frightening and disgusting, and who tried to kill the woman Kaz was secretly in love with.
The punishment? He plucked out his eyes. No reversing option in that. 🤷
How did he feel about it?
Uhh...nothing?
Now the differences are the following:
1) Baghra is seen as a frail, old woman that helped the MC not fall into the jaws of the bad guy. While Oomen is seen as cruel, strong and dangerous:
Tumblr media
and he tried to mess up with the MC's love interest.
2) The relation the victims have with the offender. Baghra was the Darkling's mother. So the fans ask "How could he do such a thing to his own mother?!?" While Oomen is nothing for Kaz. He was a character that came and went from this book.
3) The way the perpetrators are seen and "painted" by the narrative and author ('cause readers almost always get affected by it). The Darkling was seen as a terrifying figure that inspired fear and respect since the beginning of the book. Also, the fact that he was "revealed" to be a "manipulative, bad guy" by Baghra herself in the middle of the book did nothing to give a good light on him. On the contrary, it only enhanced the conviction of the reader that "Yes, he must be an evil bastard to do such a thing to his mother. Baghra was right and the people were right". On the other hand, we have Kaz who is seen as a frightening figure too but!
A) We have his POVs, so we can glimpse his actions and feelings first handed (the Darkling never had that chance. And THAT is why POVs are important!) and it's easier for the reader to see his own side of the story (with the Darkling we don't have his side of the story throughout the trilogy).
B) he's a bad guy that is secretly in love with a girl. And YA readers eat that shit up every time. They naturally act like: "Oh he's a bad boy that has a secret crush! He killed for her! So romantic! 😍😭". While with the Darkling, the readers think he did it because he's a jerk. And, as we all know, the majority of antis think he wasn't in love with Alina. So he only punished his mother because of his "evil fury" and for the fact that she took away his chance to gain more power.
So Kaz has the advantage because he had the opportunity to show himself through his POVs and is "painted" by the author as cruel but badass and in love with a girl. While poor Aleksander never had one POV from that trilogy so we don't know his own side of the story and the author mostly "paints" him as an evil mastermind.
Oh! And let's see the aftermath of what happened after Oomen got thrown overboard!
Tumblr media
Aha... He threatened one of his gang members to shut up otherwise...
And let's not forget how Kaz promised Oomen two things!
Tumblr media
*five minutes later Oomen gets yeeted*
Tumblr media
*five seconds later Kaz throws Oomen's ass to the depths of the black sea*
Kaz didn't feel anything while for the Darkling it pained him to do this to his mother. He didn't want to but she turned out to be a traitor who took away his hope, his joy and the girl he loved. In R&R he even offered to take her back home and I bet he felt even more regret for what he did to her after she committed suicide.
Do the Math yourselves 🙂

After watching the first 7 minutes of Shadow and Bone S2, I felt so much excitement AND dread 😬
I get it you guys, I get it. Alina and Mal = good. Darkling = BAD. And the show is really really painting it that way. But my brain, my heart, my soul(!) refuses to accept it!! It’s thinking instead Alina and Mal = good…like brother and sister, Darkling = BAD….and SEXAYYY, goodbye morals, let me be your evil queen! I tried to get to the other side but I couldn’t! I was cringing the whole time Alina and Mal tried to be romantic or suggestive and have tension 🥴 they feel like siblings! I couldn’t do it! The most I got was like aw that’s sweet but easily passable as sweet like siblings. The hot stones comment only made me cringe harder. How am I supposed to get through those scenes?! I found no spark, no riveting dynamic, no tension, no magic, no nothing between Mal and Alina 😬 not to mention, they become less interesting when they’re together. I was just glad for us to switch to Kaz, Inej and Jesper! I always knew the crows would be my salvation.

Kanej leaked the Supreme Court draft
Inej was spidering and found out what they were doing
Inej, righfully infuriated, brought the information back to Kaz, who was then also infuriated
(Kanej are aggressively pro-choice and will fuck you up)
Epic heist ensued where they broke into the SCOTUS headquarters and stole the draft
I’m not saying I can confirm this, but I will say that some of those judges should keep an eye on their loved ones

Amendmends - Kaz Brekker x Reader
Tumblr media
[Part II]
[contains vulgar language]
SUMMARY: When two of your thugs get into a fight at the Slat, you have to go apologize in person. The owner seems suspiciously happy to have you indebted to him.
WORDCOUNT: ~ 1.9k
>>Grishaverse-inspired playlist<<
“You did what?!”
The two men flinch. Feeling too humiliated to look the incandescent bull in the eye, they resort to twiddling their thumbs and riveting their gazes into the cracked, wooden floor. They’re not greenhorns and neither are they unfamiliar with your character, so it’s unclear why they ever thought this confrontation would go in any way differently. Perhaps some juvenile naivety told them this moment would, simply, never come.
“We got into a fight,” one of them repeats. Fear makes his voice waver, resounding a lot quieter than the first time he announced their misdeed. The humiliation only gnaws further at his heart as the boy involuntarily relives all of the reprimands he had received from his parents.
His partner in crime lets out a defeated sigh. The man nudges his friend and whispers: “Come on, Sorokin, she’ll know anyway.” With a sour expression on his face, he lifts his gaze to look at the woman standing behind the desk. Your nostrils are flared as you breathe hard trying to maintain composure. The unfaltering scowl you wear so well makes him gulp. “We started a fight at the Slat. One of the patrons was cheating, wasn’t even doing it very well, so we thought it was our civic duty to put it to a stop.”
You lean forward ever so slightly, hinging on your arms. Although you’re in all ways smaller than them, it doesn’t affect their fright: wolves, after all, also seem not as big when they're preparing to pounce. Words leave your mouth like venom slowly dripping from a viper’s fangs: “You have no fucking civic duty on the Crows’ turf, you bellend.”
“Boss, we-”
Sorokin immediately stops talking when you raise your hand in a quieting gesture. You close your eyes and clench the raised hand into a fist. Only after a slow, deep breath can you continue:
“Just shut your mouth while you still can move it freely. I don’t care for your excuses and promises to do better because I’m the one who has to go to Kaz Brekker and apologize on your behalf.” You push yourself away from the decorative, engraved desk. Unknowingly, you’re shaking your head, looking away from the two bullyboys for a moment. In a gesture of frustration, you pinch the bridge of your nose. “Saints only know what he’ll want for giving up retaliation,” you say under your breath. A moment of tense, reflective silence goes by before your gaze returns to the two men. The scowl immediately reappears. “What’re you standing here for? Fuck off.”
With a flick of your wrist, the crooks bolt out the door, praising the Saints that they get to see another day. Maybe they are the ones scrubbing the floors pro bono for the next two weeks but at least they’re alive. Considering the genius loci of Ketterdam, that is as good as anything.
Jesper and Inej do not pay attention to the constant opening and closing of doors to the Slat - there’s no point. Their curiosity, however, is piqued when the noise of the lively club becomes muffled and cheering turns into low murmurs and grunts. Although positioned in completely different places, they simultaneously look towards the entrance, wondering what menace could strike reluctance into the heartless thugs of the Barell.
As expected as it wasn’t, considering the area, it’s a woman. In an utter lack of taste and respect for social etiquette, you’re dressed in rather expensive men’s clothing. You even have a decorative cane with a panther’s head on top, although the item is strangely short, suggesting that it’s more of a status symbol than a mobility aid. Golden accessories, proof of acquired wealth, glimmer in the low, yellow lights of the club.
“Should we do something?” Inej whispers to Jesper, making him flinch in surprise. Really, how is she doing it time and time again?
“No way, Inej,” he laughs dryly at the notion. “It’s the Golden Panther herself. We’ve no bad blood with her and let’s hope it can stay that way.”
The name isn't in any way the stranger's own incentive - only what the victims saw right before being knocked out cold: golden, heavy rings and a black tattoo of a roaring panther on the back of your hand. Some of the more egotistic goons in Ketterdam try to mimic the artwork with other supposedly dangerous animals but it never has the same ominous feeling.
“Then why is she walking straight towards us?”
His gaze returns to the unexpected guest. Inej is right - in an unbothered stroll, you’re making your way to them. When the Panther’s stern, cold gaze meets his, the man feels anxiety building up in his chest. If Kaz had a sister, that would be her. In any other circumstances, he’d laugh at that thought but with the fiend in front of him, humour has somehow fled.
Jesper slowly puts down his drink, his other hand mindlessly resting on top of the revolver behind his belt. “I don’t know but I don’t like this.”
Inej scrunches her nose. "I always imagined it’s a man."
"Well, I thought she'd be, you know, bigger,” Jesper says in a hushed voice. The Slat is strangely quiet and you’re sure to hear his comment if he speaks any louder. “Considering Panther and all."
You stop in front of them. Physique-wise, you don’t seem very threatening to either of the Crows. No, it’s something in the air, as though your presence elicits some kind of aura that makes people want to flee from sight, noisy lowlifes become as meek as sheep. Jesper wonders if this is how aristocrats and politicians feel when someone mentions the Queen of Beggars.
Golden Panther looks between the two of them. In an unexpectedly polite fashion, both of your hands are holding the decorative cane. After a moment, your gaze stops on Jesper. You look him up and down but he’s unsure whether he should feel threatened or flattered.
“You’re the one who got into that fight yesterday, aren’t you?” you finally ask.
Oh, that.
Jesper grips the gun tighter. “Yeah, that would be me.”
You put your hand into the pocket of your dress trousers, apathetic eyes still set on him, and pull out a wad of banknotes. Without looking at them, never even thinking to count the amount, you lay it next to his drink on the bar counter.
“For the trouble. Buy yourself something nice. Where’s the owner?”
“In his office,” Jesper answers with a vague motion of his hand.
With a curt nod of your head, you leave the two Crows to find the man you’ve been truly looking for. When you’re out of earshot, the stairs creaking under your weight, Jesper turns to Inej:
“Did I just get pocket money from Lady Belladonna?” he asks in a hushed voice.
“I’m afraid you did.”
Immediately, he grabs the wad of cash, counting the banknotes. His eyes only grow wider as the stack of 50s doesn’t seem to end - Jesper Fahey is suddenly something of a rich man.
You don’t knock. The door swings open and Kaz is about to tell off anyone who’s disturbing him when he notices you standing on the threshold. Without a word of either warning or welcome, he grabs his cane. Twisting off the top of your staff, you pull the accessory slightly apart, revealing a sharp blade hidden inside.
“Show me yours, tough guy. Bet mine’s bigger,” you jest. Then you close the cane and Kaz, although hesitant, lets go of his. “I come in peace.”
“What brings you here?” he asks impatiently.
You take a deep breath and sigh. The chair in front of him is left vacant but considering the reason for your visit, it would be impolite to sit around. “I’d like to apologize.” Kaz raises his eyebrows in surprise. He knows the business well enough to know that people of your sort don’t adhere to courtesy often. “The fight that broke out yesterday? My boys. They weren’t supposed to be here but that doesn’t change anything. What’s done is done and since they wear claws around their necks, they’re my responsibility.”
For a moment you look away, biting the inside of your cheek. It’s the right thing to do but Saints’ mercy, is it humiliating. Kaz doesn’t say anything, curious anticipation egging him to let the tense silence squeeze the truth out of you.
You look at him again. The anger of having to fawn on someone makes you tighten the grip on your cane. "I can pay you for the damages but I can't undo the injuries or the fucking headache. Instead, I'm offering you my service. One job, no matter how bloody insane, I'll do it. Just leave my boys alone."
Kaz sits back in his chair, taking in the fascinating turn of events. In all of your demimonde courtesy, you’ve done exactly what he had expected you to do. You swear there’s a shadow of a grin creeping unto his face and that’s when you realize you’ve probably manoeuvred yourself into a problematic, inescapable corner. If half of the stories they say about him are true, you’re going to shake hands with death herself in the nearest future, probably more than once.
A scoff flies past your lips. You look at him through squinted eyes but he doesn’t seem to mind that. Why would he? He just scored a jackpot without stepping out of his office.
“I know that look, Brekker,” you stress the sudden lack of courtesy. “You’ve been waiting for this moment your whole fucking life, haven’t you? The Golden Panther at your beck and call.”
“There is one job that will utilize your methods,” he puts a strange, although meaningful stress on the word, “but it’s nothing sure for now.”
He plays his cards well. So well, in fact, that you can’t tell whether he’s honest or bluffing. The only thing you are sure of is that if he lives up to his name, Kaz is bound to have some kind of ace up his sleeve, even if it’s unadulterated rage - he will either find or create a problem for you to solve, never as much as entertain the thought of passing up on your offer.
There is simply no way that a man of his skill and expertise doesn’t know exactly what he’s doing. Like those miserable churchgoers praying to the Saints for a sign, you too now have to obediently await the fateful word of Kaz Brekker. You’re a fiddle and through your own goodwill, you have appointed him a fucking virtuoso.
“I’ll be anticipating your word, Brekker,” you grit the last bits of politeness through your teeth. “In the meantime, don’t try to think about me too often. Might neglect your business and the panther…” your voice trails off and you shrug with faux innocence, “The panther only needs to find you once.”
“It’s a bold assumption that I spend any minute of my time thinking about you.”
“Well, you’re doing it now, aren’t you?” The cocky smile on your face only annoys him. “До свидания,” you throw while vaguely saluting at him.
When the door shuts behind you, Kaz lets out a frustrated sigh. You’re going to make this whole operation incomparably easier for him - that is, if he doesn’t kills you first. For the sake of his sanity.

what eric heisserer did to alina’s character was absolutely devastating
first of all she got less than two hours of the whole timeline of the whole s2 as a main character.
if they made shadow and bone crossed with the crows, which was absolutely unnecessary and dumb decision because they sidelined even crows themselves and didn’t enlighten none of the problems crows themselves suffered like what jesper and nina felt as grishas or what happened to inej. all of it just to lift kaz’s backstory.
and yes, if they made kaz and alina leads, why kaz got his lines from the books and alina got none when originally this show & books were about her and her only
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
they promised they’d explore alina’s heritage but by some reasons she was the only person who didn’t get any backstory and they left no clue who are her parents and did other sun summoners exist before. sorry I don’t accept the book ending either because alina was only special and leigh left her powerless with some stinky otkazat’sya on a farm.
and what we got? “empty promises” as said alina in s2 but darkling’s promises were real and the writers’ aren’t. even jessie mei li wasn’t much comfortable about the decision of alina’s complete erasure.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I also can write miles of text how badly they treated the actress herself how they made jessie stay the longest on set, didn’t include most of scenes and how they made everyone shoot in a warm clothes (darkling’s death scene) in 35 degrees hot.
what drives me more mad is that mal knows whose descendant he is, why is he like this but NOTHING for alina. and I even know why, because in any case if alina’s backstory was in the book & show the ending wouldn’t fit leigh’s and eric’s narratives (alina’s terrible ending)
alina is the most powerful and the most interesting and the most unexplored character even in the books and I’m so angry they made her asian just to violently sideline her
also as I remember correct one writer was also involved in a show that erased asian character (dc titans?)
the only and only thing about the show is alina ending up a queen, surrounded by grisha and a good husband who may not be her lover but he’s protective, will always listen to her, will never whine , will help her etc (I’ll forever annoy y’all with my darkolina agenda)

How can anyone read this:
"The biggest difference between tgt and soc is that hating the villain abuser on soc is universal, but on sab is controversial"
and believe its pro darkling?
Tumblr media
-Both of them abused someone who saw them as a father figure
-Both of them threatened to hurt a woman they had hostage
-Both of them treated women as an extension of themselves
-Both of them treated to use a force to force one or many grishas to use their powers in his favor
-Both of them added uneeded comflict on an international war despite having the power to help
-Both treated people as disponsable (darkling turned his back on zoya after someone with more usefull powers showed up, Jan locked Marya on an asylum and reemplaced her with a younger woman)
Those bastards are hardly different, the only reason people have this double standard is either :
-Ageism: since one looks (actually is way older) like a young man
-Sexism: darkling´s most direct and personal victims were mostly women while Van eck also targeted inej and marya people mostly only take Wylan in count. So harming a man is wrong but harming women is "uwu, baby didn't have a choice, women bad for defending themselves 🥺

Changes in S2 of S&B - Pros and Cons
What I liked:
- Mal (as Sturmhond) going to find his own identity independent of Alina
- Alina keeping her powers and continuing her political role
- The consequences of merzost when used to bring Mal back to life
- Inej with a sword- really just her whole relationship with Alina
- Wesper starting as a one-night stand
- Baghra’s death scene. One of the most well-acted in the show so far.
- Matthias’ plot in Hellgate- sweet Fierdan cellmate, beef with Pekka Rollins, and dog-whispering abilities, what’s not to love?
- The whole side quest for the sword, especially Kanej moments and Wylan saving the day, as well as Durast bloodbending and Jesper’s encounter with his mother
- Inej’s brother, who we find exists largely to narratively parallel Jordie. I’m cool with that because it is SUCH a good parallel. “I pray for him. For Jordie.” :(
What I didn’t:
- not including the final battle of Siege and Storm at the Little Palace, white-haired Alina, and all that comes with it
- Making Tolya (aroace) seem to have a crush on Inej. Which may develop into a relationship?? Ew on so many levels.
- Idk how to articulate my exact issue with it, but they handled the “I’ll have you without armor” scene wrong. It always felt more about emotional vulnerability to me, and the show made it seem like Inej wanted to have sex, which book Inej is no where near ready for.
- Overall, I feel that several opportunities to address Inej’s trauma were overlooked
- David died too soon- I see why it was necessary to make Alina a member of the Triumvirate, but I feel like it did a disservice to Genya’s character development
- Nina dropping the pardon on the ground was stupid and she would never
